Over the weekend, Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik did their first hand-holding pap stroll. This came just one week after Gigi and Zayn seemed to leave the AMA after-parties together, which got the ball rolling on the speculation that Zayn and Gigi are your 12-year-old niece’s favorite new It Couple. And because this whole thing feels very middle school, of course there was some juvenile DRAMA to go along with the new couple. If you remember, Gigi was dating Joe Jonas just a few weeks ago. After Gigi and Zayn stepped out for their hand-holding pap stroll, Joe Jonas turned into a mega-bitch and unfollowed Gigi on social media, plus he deleted a photo of himself and Zayn.
How did Gigi respond? She Instagrammed-then-deleted a photo of the word “CHILL” with this message: “Sometimes life just happens.. For whatever reason in whatever timing. And sometimes it doesn’t make sense til it does. That’s it.” Yes, life just happens when you’re Gigi and Zayn. Personally, I think Zayn seems like a douchey punk, and as it turns out, Gigi’s friends may agree with me!
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik look good together, but are they really all that compatible? Let’s not get too carried away just yet—the 20-year-old supermodel and 22-year-old ex-member of One Direction have only been dating a few weeks. Still, though, even though this budding romance hasn’t had time to develop into anything serious, a source tells E! News that some of Gigi’s pals don’t like her coupled up with the former boy-bander.
“Her friends do not quite understand what the attraction is,” says an insider. “He is not her usual type, he doesn’t share her sense of humor or ease with people [and] he’s a little more self-aware and awkward.”
Hey now, the 1D fellas’ awkwardness is kind of part of their charm—isn’t it? In any case, it seems that Gigi’s friends just don’t want her falling too hard, too fast for the British charmer. One insider notes that the model, whose exes include Cody Simpson and Joe Jonas, “could date anyone she wants.” It’s because of this, perhaps, that Gigi’s friends are confused as to why she’d go for someone who doesn’t necessarily roll with her same Hollywood clique.
Gigi seems to be just fine with Zayn as is! Plus, if we’ve learned anything from her dating life lately, it’s that Gigi isn’t a fan of people sticking their noses where they don’t belong. As she tweeted to her 958,000+ followers just last week, “There’s just no need to be judgmental about situations that are not your own. Let live.”
I think it’s cute that Gigi Hadid is still so new to the game that she still has friends who sell her out to E! News. I’m assuming this piece doesn’t come from her publicist, just because I can’t imagine a professional publicist wanting this story out there. No, take it at face value: Gigi has friends who run to E! News to say that no one in their clique really “gets” why she’s all about a little punk with great cheekbones. I do think it’s weird that Gigi has such a thing for former or current boy-banders, although I’ll admit it – I find her romance with Zayn much more intriguing than her romance with Joe Jonas. We’ll see how it plays out. I’m sure there will be so much more middle school drama before this is over.

I don’t think it’s just a stunt but they are most definetly using it for publicity but in that respect they are no different to Taylor swift and Calvin Harris or in fact most of her boyfriends.
Gigi is from the same school as the Kardashians, she uses every relationship to gain attention. As does Taylor and as has his former bandmate Harry done on occasions.

i mean, i love that she dates age appropriate. i’m not against age gaps at all, but i’m also happy i allowed myself to date about my age at 20 like she’s doing (i’m 26 now).

Omg yes! I always thought the Cody boy was beyond odd looking, I mean no attractiveness there at all. Joe Jonas was somewhat better but always just average looking to me, but seemed like a tool. At least Zayn is very hot most of the time, albeit d bag. I’m strictly basing this on from a superficial looks stand point haha I mean if u r in a PR relationship I would think she would enjoy having a better face to be pictures w at least! Lol

@Ell she may date age appropriate guys but her relationship with Joe was always creepy. There’s a story she told about how when she was 13 and Joe was 20 he used to have a crush on her and asked her mother if he could date her and her mum said no. After I heard that story I was always grossed out because why would a 20 year old man want to date a 13 year old girl?

I know nothing about either of these two, but give me awkward and self-aware any day. I LOVE dorky, awkward guys and always had the best friendships/relationships with that type vs. the good-looking, arrogant, social-circle guys. I’d say it’s a GOOD sign that her Hollywood friends don’t “get” it.

This girl is basically Taylor Swift’s protege. Using constant PR relationships to gain more coverage as she cannot base her career on talent (or lack of). The stunts are so obvious it’s cringe worthy.
Also, her friends were ok with Joe Jonas, but doesn’t understand Zayn Malik? Both seem like they have no sense of humor, but at least Zayn is attractive and has some sort of talent.

@lizzie Hmmmm, I could have sworn I read the opposite! I think the blind I read was that she broke it off with Joe earlier than expected because she heard Zayn was looking for a girlfriend.
I’m sure even if it’s PR that it’s not necessarily a hardship seeing as how they’re both attractive but I’m sick of the blatant set ups. It used to be less obvious.

That’s also probably true too. I mean Selena did do an interview with InStyle saying how attractive Zayn is & blah blah. He’s a hot single It boy, everything that Joe isn’t. So I can see Gigi leaving him before Selena snatch Zayn first.
Maybe because they share similar background (middle eastern?). Her sister is dating the weekend and I believe he may also be of similar ethnicity. To me that’s a lot more of a connection than omgsoawkward.
The weeknd is not middle eastern hes of Ethiopian parentage. But i believe he is muslim-amish. Both Zayn and the hadid sisters have a muslim parent.
Zayn’s father is Pakistani-British; Gigi’s father is Palestinian-American. Palestine and Pakistan are pretty far apart culturally. It’s like saying a girl with a Greek parent and a boy with a Norwegian parent will have something in common because both parents are European Christians.
Abel (the Weeknd) is an Ethiopian Christian, which is different from what Gigi’s father is Palestinian. Zayn’s father is Pakistani (actually, 3rd generation I think, his father was born in the UK), which is a different culture from Ethiopian and Palestinian.

I don’t know if your reply about religion was in response to my post? In no way was i suggesting that they are connected simply because of religion. The top post alluded to their ethnicity being the same, which is even further from the truth as the weeknd is of east african parentage obviously so not in the middle east. In fact a whole different continent.
@junior religion does connect you especially when you are the minority. I’m Hindu and I grew up in a community mixed with Hindus, Muslims and Christians and because both the Muslim and Hindu religions come with culture and traditions attached, you relate to people you meet of the same religious background.
@Leah, I was replying to your comment that “Both Zayn and the hadid sisters have a muslim parent.” Since Islam is such a diverse religion, containing many different viewpoints, traditions, and levels of conviction, and since Zayn and Gigi’s national origins are so different, my point was that having a Muslim parent is probably not enough to give them much in common – particularly since it doesn’t seem as if either one of them is particularly devout. Both appear to smoke and drink, for example, which are haram.
@Water, I hear what you’re saying, but you are speaking of people you grew up with in your community. Gigi and Zayn did not grow up in the same community – in fact, they grew up in two different countries, thousands of miles apart, one fairly wealthy in a glamourous showbiz capital and one from a working-class family in an industrial town. Had they grown up in the same community, I’d be more likely to believe that religion might bring them together.

Then you completely misunderstood my comment. Again i replied to someone who suggested that these people are all of the same ethnicity. My comment was made in that context, because i thought that person above perhaps confused ethnicity with religion. So i simply pointed out that their parents do not share the same ethnicity but they do share the same religious background. I am well aware of the differences within islam and different cultures. I did not suggest that all people of muslim heritage across the globe are the same. I am of mixed parental background myself so the diversity of cultures, nationality and religions is not something i have trouble understanding. I think you read something into my comment that wasn’t there.
@junior I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I’m not saying people who grew up in the same community tend to stick together. I’m saying no matter where u go even with different upbringings and backgrounds religion and culture connects you. It doesn’t seem to be the same for most Christian people I agree. To us and Muslim people it’s more then religion, our religion is rooted to our culture which is passed down through generations no matter where in the world u grew up.
Off-topic, but she looks extremely unhealthy to me. Anytime I see pictures of her, I think, “drugs”. Same with her blond ex. Am I alone with this? I know this assumption could be 100% wrong, I’m just asking out of curiosity.

I’m really surprised that Zayn said yes to this PR stunt. He’s been trying to position himself away from the boyband stereotype as more of a sophisticated urban musician, since his voice has always had an R&B flavor. Showing up in staged pap shots with Gigi has cost him a lot of cool points.

Yes, but that was during his “boy band” days. As I understand it, the whole point of leaving 1D was to turn his back on that kind of nonsense and establish himself as a more serious musician – “#realmusic” , as Zayn himself tweeted when he signed his non-1D record contract.
Oh yeah, now I get you. It is strange because for years Zayn’s stans would talk about how much he loves being private and would never go for any public type of stunts and now they are all gung-ho about it. He’s just thirsty for success and is trying to play the game. I am surprise because I didn’t think he would be this transparent.
this industry is full pr relationships, and it really all depends on how the mgmt wants to promote the artist. sometimes the artist have no choice. if you look at any pr stunt zayn has to do, the dude always looks miserable. idt this is the way he likes to play the game. even this one :l

This isnt joe Jonas this guy blatantly cheated with random groupies on his last girlfriend. He basically can’t keep it in his pants, he doesn’t need a beard, what he needs is to look like he can be in a stable loving relationship. I mean right now he’s seen as douchey womanizer, he could do with his image being more likeable although I am not sure Gigi provides that.
Ok so I’ll be brave enough and say what I honestly think. I find this relationship very intresting or intriguing due to religion. Zayn has already said that he is muslim and Gigi’s father is muslim. Of course that doesn’t necessarily mean she is. But at least she is familiar with the culture. So I wonder if it is a factor of closeness or understanding between them. As being muslim is very rare in Hollywood.
Other than that, they are both extremely good looking but that’s not news.
Both their fathers are Muslim and both their mothers are Christians I believe. I don’t think Zayn or Gigi practice their fathers; religions though I do think Zayn is a bit more into his as he doesn’t eat pork, but he does drink and smoke weed and he does do all the other pre-marital stuff that is not allowed. I guess he picks and chooses. I think this relationship is based on pr and probably some physical attraction. It’s just weird that in the past 2 weeks they have only been seen leaving restaurants together…that’s it.
I am from muslim background myself 🙂 speaking of my generation (I am 26) and where I come from, 80% of muslim youth drink, smoke and live their lives. And do as minimum things related to Islam as possible. That doesn’t take away the faith or the belief.
So it is not shoking at all for me that they don’t practice Islam. I am just wandering if it could be something that would bring them together due to the rarity of people with muslim backgrounds in Hollywood.

I think it’s messed up how superficial this all is. Some people are more introverted and take a while to open up to others. Her friends sound mean as heck if they were this quick to judge.
