It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia releases 80s ski movie throwback trailer

FXX’s comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has followed its anti-heroes through many crazy misadventures over the past 10 seasons, and this year is no exception, judging from the latest trailer. Christmas comes early for “Sunny” fans (like me) with this awesome sneak peek at season 11 of the long-running FXX series, which prides itself as being politically incorrect and delightfully proud of it. Apparently, show creators Glenn Howerton (Dennis) and Rob McElhenney (Mac) watched a lot of bad 80s ski movies (I’m hoping this included my personal favorite, Hot Dog: The Movie), and have incorporated the plot tropes you love to hate into the new season.

From what we could gleam from the way-too-short trailer, Danny DeVito’s Frank takes on the role of an an evil corporate overlord (is anyone surprised?), Dennis (Glenn Howerton) plays a trash-talking rival skier, and Charlie (Charlie Day) plays a strategically-placed saxophone (hello, 80s!). There are also appearances from Mac (Rob McElhenney) and Dee (Kaitlin Olson). Of course, this is just the season premiere. There’s lots of crazy shenanigans to come, especially another round of the infamous board game “Chardee MacDennis.” According to the network, the gang will also be moving to the suburbs, shooting a smut film and defending themselves in court (again).

I am so looking forward to another season of “Sunny,” but personally I can’t think they can ever top “Kitten Mittens“! I am completely on board for letting these guys try though. Who’s with me? Even if you have never inappropriately screamed “RUM HAM!” at a family occasion (Who? Just me?), you can still appreciate the wonderfulness of this show. Tune in, or set your DVR for January 6, when the forecast will be “sunny.”

    Dennis’ maniacal laugh! Love.

Also I grew up in a Philly suburb (have lived in the city, as well) and I’m excited to see what they do with that plot line.

    This is my favorite show.

I absolutely love this show. It’s so horrible, and so amazing.

I legit just instagrammed a photo of my cat mug that I found at winners with the hashtags: #isyourcatmakingtoomuchnoiseallthetime? and #charliekelleyapproved

My husband also pointed out the other day that I did a Dee ‘angry kick’ – I can’t even remember what it was over. But my god, I love that show.

    Cant wait!

Kitten Mittens was their paintball episode for Community. Well, the 6 sided dice episode was also pretty awesome. Troy’s variation being the best!
But ASIP had a great episode with Dennis in a “psych ward” after the latest get rich quick scheme was to give him Stigmata wounds.

I did like that a show was made out of the old Step 1. Crazy idea Step 2. (Unknown) Step 3. Proft Style formula! It just hasn’t maintained.

Imma let you finish, but The Nightman Cometh was the best episode of all time.

Whoa, the baby face on Rob McElhenney!

I got through two seasons and loved it but haven’t watched it in a really long time. Thinking it’s time to start Season 3 🙂

I LOVE this show. I started watching it about a year ago and blitzed through the entire series in a month. I couldn’t breathe after the high school reunion episode, I was laughing so hard.

  9. MC2 says:

Thank you for the “Kitten Mittons” link- it made my freakin’ day!!!

  10. Sarah says:

My favorite episode was The Gang Wrestles for the Troops, and The World Series Defense.

  11. Elle says:

Amazing show! Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one watching it! Nice knowing I’m not alone

DEAN CAMERON!!!!!!!!!! I love the show anyway, but featuring him in the trailer is the best. (Among other great things [Summer School, Men at Work, etc.], Cameron played in the Ski School movies.)

But, really, Ski Patrol is my favorite silly ski movie.

And I have entirely too many favorite Sunny episodes and moments. We quote Charlie losing his mind in “Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack” most often. “CAROLLLL!” “I got boxes full of Pepe!”

OMG… I scrolled down hoping that someone had given the Deaner the props he deserves. Ski School, Summer School, Rockula… as a kid, I thought he was as big as Tom Cruise, just based on his VHS rental wall dominance. Ski School was filmed and takes place at the local ski resort where I live (Whistler, BC.)

      • amilu says:

I did the same thing. I hit Ctrl+F and searched “Dean” before I made my comment. I was sad to see that no one else had mentioned him! You’re awesome. How could I forget Rockula?!

Chainsaw was my hero when I was 9-years-old.

‘The gang takes a road trip’,
‘the d.e.n.n.i.s. System’, ‘the gang dances their asses off’, ‘the waitress is getting married’.
Great show, too many good ones to name. I can’t wait.

One of the best shows ever. And I just love that Sweet Dee and Mac are married in real life. The episode where she had the surrogate baby for Carmen, they end the show with a dedication to their baby. LOVE.
