Jared Leto apologizes for saying that he doesn’t ‘give a f–k’ about Taylor Swift

Yesterday, TMZ published a video of Jared Leto listening to and commenting on some Taylor Swift songs – you can see the video here. Apparently, the video was filmed months ago, and it doesn’t seem like the kind of thing that was for public consumption or anything. Well, maybe it was for a behind-the-scenes documentary, something like that? In any case, TMZ got their hands on some of the video and they published it.

Jared doesn’t seem high or drunk or anything, he’s just sitting around what looks like a modest recording studio while someone plays tracks off of Swifty’s 1989 album. Leto didn’t like “Welcome to New York” – he listened to it for a few seconds and says, “Oh, I don’t like this at all. Next.” But he really enjoyed “Blank Space” and he was somewhat ambivalent on “Style.” When asked how he feels about Taylor in general, Leto said: “”F–k her. I don’t give a f–k about her.” As you can imagine, the Swiftlunatics demanded Swift(y) justice! So he tweeted this:

LMAO at the shade of “an incredible example of what’s possible.” My mind went to the worst interpretation of that, which is… chica’s got a weak voice and she’s all hype and middle school drama, and she turned that into one of the most lucrative careers in the industry. Yes, anything IS possible!

He used to be so hot as Jordan Catalano. Now, just……

    • Kitten says:

I thought he was the most beautiful guy I’d ever seen. To echo what you said above: now, just……

    • Erinn says:

Ugh – he was like the perfect looking guy back then, wasn’t he? Super dreamy handsome.

I think if we could just dress and style him, we could get him back closer to that, haha. A little stubble, or a really neatly tamed beard, and not stupid hair, and it’d be a huge improvement.

  2. aims says:

Why can’t you criticize her? She can’t sing well and her music is crap. Her behavior is bizarre for her age and she seems to be stuck in middle school, mentality wise. There, I said it and I stand by it.

    • Meowsy says:

Because her fan army is almost as bad as the beyhive. One day, I dream that people will stop worshipping celebrities. Yes you can like their art, yes you can like them, but now they are not Jesus.

      • Lauren says:

I wouldn’t say only beyhive and Swifty fans are the only ones who worship at the altar of their respective idols. I have seen this quite a lot with the little monsters (if they are still relevant), Rihanna fans, Katy Perry fans, and also with a lot of Adele fans.
I don’t mind Adele’s music but I grew up in a black household listening so I’ve been listening to to soul music for a very long time. So I really don’t see what sets Adele apart or establishes her as the new great in so many people’s eyes. I think she is a good singer but I get nauseated by a lot of her fans online who worship her and act like she is the second coming and only credible artist around at the moment. I personally think that a lot of her song choices don’t resonate with me and are bland. But voicing unpopular opinions online about anyone’s idols (not only Swift) guarantees a bashing.

      • amunet ma'at says:

@Lauren I really agree with your Adele comments. I like her bunches but the amount of press and bizarre adulation is oft-putting.

    • jamie says:

Probably because she’s such a powerhouse right now he doesn’t want to be caught in the mess of daring to say anything negative about her.

I could take her or leave her but she seems so vile and petty, I wouldn’t want to be on her bad side.

    • FingerBinger says:

Leto can’t sing well either. His music is crap too. He also doesn’t behave the way a man over 40 should behave.

      • ichsi says:

Aye. He’s throwing bricks in a glass house.

      • Kitten says:

At the risk of offending others, I am of the opinion that his band is garbage.

      • Liv says:

        +3
Trying to actually be a character is not acting in my opinion. Don’t like his band either.

      • Saks says:

        Agree. His band is awful

      • Priya says:

Yeah, Leto is so immature. And jealous of her bank account while pretending he’s so much realer or more artistic than her or whatever 40 yr old drug addicts like to believe about themselves.

He ought to be a little more professional instead of a 12 yr old mean girl.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

+1 Stand strong, Aims! The army of braindead zombie middle schoolers can’t take us down if we fight …together!

    • sarah says:

Her recent instagram post with her and Blake Livelys day of: “Roller coasters, kangaroos, and LOLs” made my eyes roll soo hard.
Actually I can stand her 16yr old mentality, but I CANNOT stand her AWARENESS of how crazy, zealous, delusional, (sometimes homophobic & racist) and insane her fans are, and do NOTHING to stop it.. it’s a form of bullying and celebrities need to be held responsible.

      • aims says:

I don’t know why my displeasure with her is so deep. Maybe it’s because of her mean girl behavior. I hate that she believes she stands up for women, but if you dare disagree with her, then she becomes vile towards you. I believe in friendship and I cherish my loved ones greatly. Never in a million years would I ever exploit them or be ungrateful towards them. My overall impression of Taylor is not good and not someone I’d like to know.

I agree. She sticks her minions on people and they do her dirty work.

      • isa says:

Sarah and Aims I agree with you 100%. I’ve actually had long conversations about it because there is just something so manipulative and mean about her behaviour which other people seem to overlook. I think when you add her continual hypocrisy about “mean people” (songs like Mean, Bad Blood etc) with her own actions I don’t think it’s something I could ever ignore. My overall impression of her over a number of years now is decidedly negative, despite wanting to agree with my friends who all seem to love her. It’s refreshing to know we’re not alone in our assessment of her character.

    • Betsy says:

      There’s criticism, and then there’s “F— her. I don’t give a f— about her.”

      • antipodean says:

The best praise for TS is the faint praise!

      • Bonnie says:

Betsy, agreed. I have to say, there are worse people in the celebrity world( I’m looking at ALL OF YOU KARDASHIANS) . Seriously, why the harshness and F her? There can be, I don’t like like her music. Why should it be taken to the next level shit?

OK, Jared Leto, you were modestly talented years ago in a drama series. You reserfaced and pulled an Oscar-Winning performance out of your ass. It was a fluke, your character was oscar-baity, because not only was she transgender, but also had AIDS. Do I say F you and your academy award- no. Just that you were Leo DiCaprio thirsty for that statue. No hate, just my opinion put nicely.

    • Seabreeezy says:

There is a big difference between not liking or criticizing someone’s music/talent, and saying “F*** her”. Not because their looney fans might be displeased, but because it’s very mean and crude, for no reason. Not the same as not being a fan of their music.

  3. Abbott says:

“She gives hope to pretty, moderately talented girls everywhere”

    Love it.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

Or moderately pretty at best white girls with almost no talent and rich parents. It’s what the American Dream is all about!

  4. Lizzie McGuire says:

The shade is strong with this one…
Bad blood Part II coming soon to you via Instagram

  5. Lilacflowers says:

I don’t give a f*** about Taylor Swift either and I’m not going to apologize. May she have a wonderful life but I have no interest in it and I’m sure my lack of interest doesn’t bother her in any way

    • lucy says:

I came here to say this, too. I do not and never have given a flip about TS, her music, her drama, her fans, and I will not apologize for that.

  6. missmerry says:

hes just patching up his real feelings that he shared online before he realized it would get in the way of people giving a sh*t about Suicide Squad. He’s just trying to look and play nice to swifty’s minions will go see his movie. full stop.

  7. Bridget says:

So in other words, “please see my movie”

  8. Mia4s says:

I despise this guy but give me a break!

Hey Swift fans; I don’t give a f–k about her either! I think she’s mediocre! Come at me!….or you know, get your head out of middle school?

  9. als says:

I read the twitter message in the worst kind of way as well. And while we’re at it, I can’t believe Swift is a bigger deal at the Grammys than Florence+the Machine. Florence’s voice, her lyrics, her songs…Swift is truly great ay business (which is code for talented at making herself look more talented than she really is).
And it’s laughable how she totally played Kanye and how she played off of him. The moment when he got on stage to trash her actually made her career.

  10. perplexed says:

I know he’s the Fountain of Youth, but Isn’t he really in his 40s? I think it would be weirder if he actually cared about Taylor Swift.

    • Kitten says:

Exactly. The guy is making crappy corporate rock music–he’s not going to be listening to teeny bopper pop stuff.

But generally-speaking, does anyone over age 25 really care about Swift or her music?
Most of us who grew up during grunge and hip hop’s Golden Era have no f*cks to give.

      • Leah says:

My impression is that mums like Swifty. For some reason they see her as a paragon of moral high ground or something in a sea of Riris, fka twigs and katy perrys. Considering the amount of boyfriends ( not that i judge) she’s had, it always strikes me as weird. It seems like white middle america and the british daily mail belt, decided she a better role model for their daughters than R and B singers or rappers. There is something mildly racists about the whole thing. Anyway If i was a mum id probably rather go with Carly Rae Jepsen if what i wanted them to listen to was a bland inoffensive mediocre pop starlet.

      • Locke Lamora says:

I am surprised Swift has fans older than 17. I’m surprised Leto has fans older than 25.

      • wrinkled says:

A better role model than someone who bails out her child rapist brother.

      • fiona says:

I know people in their late 20’s who like swifts music and people in their 30s who listen to the radio religiously.

      • JenniferJustice says:

I’d say that INITIALLY people, especially the moms, saw Taylor as non-threatening and pure, but not so much anymore. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY is tired of her shilling her latest relationship debacles and proving how much she actually gets around. The innocent Swift ship has sailed.

      • Bonnie says:

Wrinkled—– PREACH!!! Wasn’t that girl 12?????

      • Lirko says:

        So *so* true…

  11. Crumpet says:

Words matter people. If you don’t have anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut. He was stupid to think a recorded session was never going to go public.

  12. lily says:

Maybe it will inspire her to write “You’re Creepy And I Can’t Stand You But I Would Totally Still Do You If You Wore Mirror Sunglasses And Didn’t Talk While Doing It.” song I could relate to.

  13. QQ says:

LOL personally I find that hilarious, gimme more unvarnished shady takes from singer to another singer’s work LOL he tries to act soooo fake deep about his Hot Topic ass ” Musician” career

  14. Ennie says:

Of course he thinks he is so hard core that he probably looks down upon all pop music. I think he is talented, but more of a poser than all that.
There are some artists or Celebs whose personal life affects my views on their work. Tom Cruise or maybe will smith for
Me. There is a singer from my country who engaged in child trafficking. I can’t stand those.
Taylor swift and some others? Innocuous. I like her music, I do not mind her shenanigans. I side- eye more Jared Leto’s friendship with a sick person like Terry Richardson. Now that is despicable.

  15. Jaded says:

He’s vile. He hangs out at Uncle Terry’s pr0n shop. He should come with a warning sign: “DANGER: MY MUSIC MAY HAVE SIDE EFFECTS INCLUDING YAWNING, EYE-ROLLING AND EXTREME BOREDOM”.

  16. InvaderTak says:

I’m on board with not giving a crap. I can’t believe the lyrics of blank space. Is she really that self conscious? It’s so creepy to me.

  17. Cali says:

“An incredible example of what’s possible.” 😂😂😂 Why am I liking this guy a bit!

  18. luelueloop says:

What im getting from this is that he’s an almost 44 year old grown man ( same age as my parents) slamming a 25 or 26 year old middle school acting pop stars music? my conclusion is they are both IMMATURE as HELL!! I don’t think he should have said sorry, he’s entitled to his opinion. Why is it okay for TSwift to bash other artist/actresses like Katy Perry and Camila Belle but someone cant say anything negative about her? I do think he’s too old to be so Catty but its his opinion.

  19. WinnieCoopersMom says:

At first I was thinking it was may be a parody video for Funny or Die or something similar bc I thought they were friends or atleast good acquaintances. He was wearing a mic, so he had to know this would get out. Dumb move on his part. As you can see from their photos together, he runs into her all the time at industry events and parties. He knows he will have to see her time and again in the future, so all it does is add to the awkwardness and make him look like a two-faced “friend.” Like, I’ll take pics with you and we can appear to be friends, but I will talk smack about you behind your back. I’m not some big Swifty defender, but this behavior makes me lose respect for him. If he was smart about playing nice with producers, labels etc, it may just be smarter business to pretend to be nice to the biggest pop star of the moment, she has a lot of connections he doesn’t.

  20. fiona says:

this is gold, pure gold. Expect this in the next swift album.

  21. emma says:

Yeah I think he more meant ‘ we don’t need to follow her style in our band ‘ when he said ‘f–k her we need to do what’s right for us’

  22. JenniferJustice says:

As far as an artist making a valid career out of mediocrity, there are many who’ve managed to do that…um, including Jared Leto.

  23. Sam says:

As if Taylor would care. She’s too busy adding more white, tall, and rich women to her “squad” so she can grow her clique and they can bully their way into getting whatever they want. Her and Blake Lively probably baked and sipped some wine while laughing over his comments. I bet it went something like “And then he said I suck hahaha…can you believe that!”
Off topic but In all seriousness I want to know how exactly does Taylor decide who is in her circle of friends aka the “squad.” I can see her and Blake Lively being BFFs because they’re like the same person…like it’s actually scary when you think about it. Like I’ve mistaken Taylor and Calvin with Blake and Ryan. I’m actually shocked they weren’t friends before but like the other women…I feel like some of them are random. Like Lena Dunham. I hope someone finds this out.

  24. Veronica says:

He doesn’t give a f*ck about her, but he didn’t mind posing with her and all the PR that came with it. Interesting.

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Exactly! “I’ll use you for social media followers, but I’m actually too cool for you.”

  25. SM says:

He doesn’t say anything that needs an apology. Not all things are for all people. Swifty included. The shade though… the temperature just droped to freezing cold.

  26. TheOtherViv says:

Ha. Gorgeous shade. Didn’t know he could be so witty, his music is mediocre. Why were they listening to TS again anyway?
As for Swifty- she became famous at a young age and we all know that that moment when you hit it big is when your emotional development kind of stalls and you stay that way.
I don’t think she exhibits a worse dating behaviour than Britney, Aguilera or others- but she does write songs about it, so we pay attention, but hey, good for her. I wish my daughter could make a million or 2 for every idiot she will probably date in the future.

  27. Felice. says:

I finally see 40s with him.

  28. iheartgossip says:

Cannot stand the ‘apology’ tours they always go on. Don’t say it or be man enough to own it.

    • Ennie says:

It’s a fake apology anyway. “If ” (operational word here) I offended anyone, yeah, right.
He is really not apologizing, which I do not really care about, as I said, I think he has more serious things to apologize about.

  29. Lindsay says:

I wish people would just own up to their opinions. He doesn’t care about her and her music isn’t his cup of tea, SO WHAT? It’s not a rule that everyone has to like everything. I’m not a fan of either but who cares if her crazy fans got butthurt over someone’s opinion that doesn’t effect them in any way? No apology was needed.

  30. Anare says:

Why apologize? I don’t give a f*ck about her either. I don’t find her music interesting in any way. I know no one gives two sh*ts whst I think but I said it and I won’t be offering any apologies.

  31. micha says:

Kind of sad he even had to apologize. While I haven’t really hear much of 30 Seconds to Mars, I’d sure as hell rather listen to it than Swifty here. And the man CAN sing. He sounds amazing in their cover of Rihanna’s “Stay” on BBC Radio 1.
