Alicia Vikander in bejeweled LV at the UK ‘Danish Girl’ premiere: stunning or meh?

Here are some photos from last night’s London premiere of The Danish Girl. They’re sort of giving up the ghost and just putting Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander together as co-leads of the film these days. Do you think she’ll be nominated in the lead categories from here on out? We’ll see. Anyway, neither Eddie or Alicia looks all that great, I have to say. Usually, Eddie looks amazing – he’s such a dandy! – but this red plaid suit is not doing much for me.

Alicia continues her red carpet theme of being understyled, although it does seem like she actually put more than 30 seconds of effort into her makeup for this red carpet. From a distance, Alicia’s Louis Vuitton gown looks sort of cheap and mismatched, but it’s a lot prettier in close-ups, once you can see the bejeweled detailing on the top. Still, I have to wonder: would this have been a more stunning gown if the top part was the same color fabric as the skirt?

As I mentioned earlier this week, Alicia has picked up one big critics award, from the Los Angeles Film Critics, which is now one less critics award than Kristen Stewart has received so far. Who would have thought? I’m sad because Eddie Redmayne hasn’t gotten any critics’ awards either, although to be fair… neither has Leonardo DiCaprio!

As for Vikander, it was just announced this week that she’ll be honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The PSIFF has increasingly become a major event over the past few years – it’s held in the same week as the Golden Globes, so a lot of big-name actors and directors come out to shake hands with industry people and shill for their Oscar campaigns. Alicia will be receiving the Rising Star Award at the PSIFF. It was also just announced that Michael Fassbender will be getting the International Star Award (male) at the PSIFF. This is the second time in a week Fassy and Vikander have been awarded something at the same time – Fassbender was also announced as the recipient of the LA Film Critics’ Association Best Actor Award, and Vikander will be there to take home the Best Supporting Actress Award. I hope it doesn’t get awkward for them, because I really get the feeling that they’re not together anymore.

Pretty young woman. The dress is fine, but doesn’t blow me away. I like that she looks a little casual. It seems to make the whole thing appropriate for her age – sometimes these young women overdo it to the point that it ages them or makes them look like they’re playing dress-up.

    • lilacflowers says:

She’s very pretty in these pictures. The top of the dress is fine but the bottom just looks like they took a bolt of random material and wrapped it around here. If it didn’t have that piece of cloth jutting up in front and was fitted to her better, it would look much better.

    • als says:

Yes, she is pretty and I think this styling suits her.
She resembles Kate Middleton to me, high fashion and high jewelry would only be wasted. Some people look best in more understated outfits.

    • Size Does Matter says:

Agree, I love that she looks natural and fresh faced.

  2. ichsi says:

I just don’t get it. AV is a very very pretty, petite lady. It can’t be that hard to put her in beautiful clothes that fit. Except that apparently it is.

    • tracking says:

+1 Also, done with Eddie’s plaid suits. Enough.

    • Mixtape says:

My thoughts exactly. Eddie’s wife, who has a similar “can we go home soon?” approach to styling, out-dresses AV at every event. The LV gown looks like a Project Runway piece on her–decent design; lousy execution.

      • Farhi says:

Eddie’s wife has Eddie, who loves clothes and learning about them. He is probably the one dressing her.

      • Tiffany says:

@Farhi. Eddie is colorblind and he stated that Hannah is the one who dresses him for the red carpet. I figured something was up because she is normally dress well along with Eddie.

  3. Esmom says:

I think she looks lovely but the dress looks a little cheap looking to me. Not a fan.

I love Eddie’s style in general but this suit is too much even for me. Yuck.

  4. Claire says:

Eddie’s wife seems so over it. Alicia is underwhelming as usual. I couldn’t care less about Eddie.

    • Calcifer says:

I wouldn’t call it ‘underwhelming’, I would call it understated. And this understated style really underlines her very elegant but natural beauty in my opinion.

    • silken_floss says:

Ikr?? He seems like a nice, really, down-to-earth guy but he’s just so bland and forgettable *shrugs*

    • Chaucer says:

I think Hannah always looks like that. She has a severe case of RBF.

I love Eddie’s plaid. I want it even though i’d look like a horrid Scottish whale right now.

      • Heather says:

        Chaucer – you’re cracking me up!! 🙂 A Scottish whale….!

      • Calcifer says:

@ Chaucer very funny. To be honest I think very few of us can get away with a plaid suit though, it’s the dreaded Billie Turf effect…

  5. Ninks says:

I think everyone assumed that JLaw was a sure thing for a leading actress nomination along with Ronan, Larson, Blanchett and… eek, the other one, which is why the studio was pushing Vikander as supporting actress. But, Joy has been getting lukewarm reviews, and although everybody says that Lawrence is great in it, she’s not the dead cert that people assumed before the first Joy screenings. I think that there’s room now for Vikander to fight for that nomination if the studio pushes her as a lead.

  6. poppy says:

the top is cut too long for her torso. ruins the line of the dress, pulls her down, and makes the contrasting lie of the material look ‘off’/mismatched.

oh eddie, red carpet should indicate wearing something that isn’t red. also his suede shoes look ‘dusty’ and too casual

  7. Tig says:

In the top photo, the dress looked like it was falling down- the close up it looks much better fitted. I could never feel comfortable wearing a strapless dress period, so kudos to get for not hiking it up!

Pls let Charlotte R get a nom! And then walk to red carpet in a tux styled ensemble! Just realized too much fan girling at this hour of the am!!

  8. Hejhej says:

I think it sucks for her that she’s on contract with LV now. She could look a lot better than she does here.

About her and Michael: they sure looked comfortable enough together in the end of November 🙂 https://www.instagram.com/p/-z4CDqQmBs/

  9. Kate says:

I like her a lot, but I hate that dress. The weird wrinkle in the front looks like a mistake made by a drunk seamstress. And Redmayne exhausts me. Maybe he lives up to the hype in this film because I certainly didn’t think his mimicry of Hawking was all that worthy of accolades.

    • VCostello says:

You read my mind! That dress is very ill fitting, and I don’t get the Redmayne hype either. His performance as Hawking was *almost* note for note the same as Cumberbatch’s–from 10 years ago.

  10. TreadStyle says:

Bad dress but from the neck up she looks pretty! I am so disappointed in this suit from Eddie, but I guess everyone has to throw a bad one in every now and then. Not to get anyone riled up but there are photos of Alicia & Michael out in London last weekend… Before she left for D.C. & he left for Malta… seems like they r both still taking the time to see each other.

    • Minxx says:

That one photo with his other friends in a restaurant? I’m curious to see if there are other photos of them together.

  11. Tiny Martian says:

Absolutely gorgeous, and I love the dress. I think she’s a breath of fresh air compared to most of the overly made up Hollywood types that you usually see on the red carpet.

  12. Mimz says:

Lots of things are just plain wrong with this dress, the fabrics from the top and from the bottom do not work well together and it looks very, very cheap IMO.
I don’t hate Eddie’s suit, but his face really annoys me for no good reason. Just does.

  13. Fanny says:

Fassbender and Vikander are still a thing. I know this because they were photographed in a restaurant last week and the Fassy stans have been hilariously trying to prove ever since that it was an old photo.

You never know if they’ll make it to January though.

    • Minxx says:

Yes, they were photographed with a whole bunch of people in a restaurant. When they’re seen together, they’re never alone and never touching one another. But Alicia’s fans (all three of them) are trying very hard to convince everyone else they’re deeply in love and having babies any minute now. LOL.
This weird couple will not survive past February. Fassbender seem to avoid any event that involves Alicia, including BIFA last Sunday (Marion was there for Macbeth). Alicia looks to me like a “stage five clinger” – poor Eddie, I think she twisted his arm this time.

    • AJ says:

I like how her fans always claim it’s “Fassy stans” who dislike her or their relationship, such as it is, when in reality, the only stans that SHE has are HIS stans.

      • Farhi says:

I like her and don’t like Fassy . I don’t qualify as a stan but I think she is a very good actress in her own right. And for me her acting skills are better than Fassy’s.
Not to mention that she is much more pleasant to look at.

    • anon says:

Alicia should be happy for those stans, BELIEVE ME. It’s good for her that her name is mentioned along with Fassbender’s. Not sure for him though but I think she enjoys it as much as she can, let’s face it, it’s going to end after February lol

  14. eddies wife seems and looks like such a english rose …le sigh

[i think back in the day everyone thought prince william’s wife would have looked like that…and not kate (weaved up, kizz band-eyelinered, sausage curls, mishap bangs, rail thin, no lips) middleton]

    • Heather says:

Man, you all are funny this morning! Cracking me up BlueGiesha and I just totally agree with you!!!! ;0

  15. Mar says:

I really like Alicia here. I love the colors of the dress on her. The dress is unique and one of her better ones lately, and I like Eddie’s suit too.

  16. SBS says:

Meh. I’m sure she’s crying all the way to the bank, but she did kind of shoot herself in the foot with the LV contract, it rarely suits her.

  17. Heather says:

Alicia is stunning – I think the gown looks good on her, but she could wear a paper bag and look great! Is it just me or does that top look like it is about to fall down any second? ha!

Eddie, well, he simply always looks fabulous. The man can wear the hell out of some clothes. Yes, great word for him – he is a dandy, but I love him!

  18. iheartjacksparrow says:

Where’s Amber? I didn’t think there was a red carpet anywhere that she wouldn’t show up for.

  19. I Choose Me says:

I do like the detailing on the dress but the fit of the bodice is off and I don’t like the satin skirt. Also, I wish she’d do something more with her hair. I would love to see her in a sleek updo with a nice statement necklace, maybe.

  20. Violet says:

I’m a bit peeved at all the shade Alicia is getting for her lack of make-up. I mean, why should she? Guys don’t have to layer their faces with paint every time they walk the red carpet, so why should the women have to? Especially women like Alicia who are already naturally beautiful. I hope this becomes a trend and more celebs would follow suit. Equality FTW.

  21. taxi says:

I don’t get Ronan’s nomination. Brooklyn is a sweet movie, really a chick-flick. Ronan was just fine as a naive newcomer to the U.S. who then toys with staying in Ireland, but hardly a stretch for even a minimally competent actress. She certainly didn’t display much character depth that I saw. BTW, Julie Walters stole every scene she was in.
