Zayn Malik posts a coupled-up Instagram with his girlfriend Gigi Hadid: cute?

A photo posted by Zayn Malik (@zayn) on

I sort of forgot that Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik were a thing. The first rumors about their coupledom started happening in November, when they were seen out together and “sources” kept selling them out. Apparently, Gigi’s gossipy friends don’t believe Zayn is good enough for Gigi. And Zayn doesn’t have many friends. Anyway, they’re still happening – Zayn posted an Instagram of a photo (?) with the two of them looking coupled-up. Do I think all of this is very cute and “young”? Of course. Do I think this is going to last much longer? Of course not.

Meanwhile, some of you may know that Zayn is still a little jackass, looking to start fights with his old bandmates in One Direction. Malik did an interview with Fader about a month ago where he said that he left 1D because:

“There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band…If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as f—, so they could use that version. Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us.

“There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn’t convinced with what we were selling. I wasn’t 100 percent behind the music. It wasn’t me. It was music that was already given to us, and we were told this is what is going to sell to these people. As much as we were the biggest, most famous boy band in the world, it felt weird. We were told to be happy about something that we weren’t happy about.”

[From Fader]

Here’s my question: if Zayn was really the most talented person (as he thinks he was) in 1D, why haven’t we seen or heard a solo album yet? If he’s this underrated songwriting genius, then show us. Well, Simon Cowell, the man who put 1D together and still manages and produced 1D, has finally said words about Zayn’s words. Simon told The Daily Mirror that he found Zayn’s complaints odd because the band’s song were a “very, very democratic process…It is a bit rude to the people who wrote all the hits with them. And to the other band members. I mean they all wrote a lot of the stuff.” And in case you’re wondering, here’s how the songwriting credits break down: “Malik does have co-songwriting credits on 11 of One Direction’s songs. Meanwhile, Horan is credited with co-writing seven songs, Styles with 24, Payne with 36 and Tomlinson with 38.” There you go. Who knew Louis Tomlinson was the best songwriter of the group?

Gross picture. Are they supposed to look romantic? She looks like she’s trying not to throw up and he looks like he just did.

  2. CornyBlue says:

Yes. Good looking people helping each other out on PR purposes and probably doing the do. What is not to like ?

  3. Little Darling says:

    This one. Le enfante terrible.

He’s such a douche waffle. I really loathe it when members of a successful group leave and then disown said group that got them fame.

His departure was truly classless, and when will these inflated egos learn to be appreciative of the hand that fed them. You can go solo and still have humanity in tact.

  4. Locke Lamora says:

She’s so boring, but seems nice. He’s so boring but seems like an a-hole. I’m their age but I hate my generations’ opssesion with posting everything on social media. Instragram is the worst social network out there. But, this is a PR relationship, right? So it makes sense to post about it. Still annoying.

  5. easi says:

his douche is coming through. I keep seeing shirtless selfies of him. Reminds me of beibs. He is pretty, but I don’t think he’s got much going on.

  6. Farah says:

I think there’s truth to what Zayn is saying. Louis and Liam were the primary songwriters of 1D. It doesn’t mean Zayn didn’t write. His songs were just shut down because they didn’t fit the sound of One Direction. I could see how that would frustrating. He’s still a massive little shit, who left abruptly left a world tour.

The reason Zayn doesn’t have music out is because of a non-compete clause. He’s not allowed to release anything until 1D goes on hiatus. Which is early 2016.

I think Zayn and Gigi are using each other. I believe they’re hooking up (they’re each other types), but are they above telling their every move to paparazzi to give them buzz. Hell NO!

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I don’t doubt that his style didn’t fit with the songs and he was told to reign in his inner R. Kelly or whatever. But if I remember correctly, Harry Styles has also written with/for people outside of 1D. Couldn’t he have done that as well? No? My guess is, he’s just not good enough or hasn’t really tried. As for the singing, yeah, dude you were in a pop band. It was a band, not the Zayn show.

The Instagram post is ridiculous but I don’t expect anything else from this narcissistic generation. I will never understand how selfies and these types of couple-y pics became a thing. As if nothing matters unless there’s online proof.

      @Farah
      Perfectly said.

    • NYCDents says:

The reason Zayn’s song didn’t fit the sound of One Direction is because he didn’t make a conscious effort to contribute songs in a meaningful way until their fourth album and by that time, those who had written songs (primarily Niall, Louis, and Liam) had developed their sound. You can’t jump in during the fourth album and try to make an R&B album when the last three were pop albums — the band’s “sound” is clearly developed by then. He got butt-hurt that at his first real attempt at writing he was rejected. He should have made an attempt at writing sooner if he was that concerned about making “his” music.

He’s beautiful and a great singer but his attitude is indefensible in my opinion.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“You can’t jump in during the fourth album”

This is what kills so many bands. The people with legitimate song writing talent do the first couple albums which makes the group successful…then the other band members see how much more money the people that write make compared to the people that just perform. By album 3 or 4 they are demanding to have their songs included. Not because they care about song writing, but because they want the money that comes from song writing. Publishing money is so valuable, but people new to the industry typically don’t understand its worth. It really does pit band members against each other.

    • Lensblury says:

Farah, thank you. I agree. Full disclosure, I don’t think I know one 1D song, but I know enough about music. From my own experience, and knowing my colleagues, I’d just like to add that abums can take time. Especially if this guy is keen on delivering the new sound he’d like to be known for, it may take a while, even without the non-compete. Having x producers doesn’t mean you’ll be happy with the outcome.
Btw – “Malik does have co-songwriting credits on 11 of One Direction’s songs. Meanwhile, Horan is credited with co-writing seven songs, Styles with 24, Payne with 36 and Tomlinson with 38.” Co-writing credits only mean so much; quantity doesn’t necessarily say anything about quality. In this case I honestly don’t know, but those could be the worst songs of the band’s albums. Might just mean this guy’s the best team player, or the most social one who gets along with the team, has the most patience, whatever… Not to downplay the ‘glue’ factor of a band, which would be the guy who’s always there, contributing something. That’s actually very valuable. Still doesn’t really say anything about songwriting qualities.

I remember reading a blind item where it mentioned a “reality star” was looking to be the next “Kris Jenner” . She wanted to have her own reality show and it would follow her children and their relationships. The popular guess was Yolanda Foster and her children. I am starting to believe that the rumours are true. There seems to be more articles about the Hadid sisters and who they are dating

  8. edith says:

I can somehow relate to what hes saying about leaving the band because he felt he couldnt make the kind of music he really truly wnated to do…. isnt it that way with all of the pop-groups since the beginning of boy bands? I mean who is surprised by this explanation he wanted out of a contract because he didnt want to play a cute boy band member in a happy fairy tale princess bubble gum world anymore… I totally get that…

in what way did he say in that piece that he thinks he is better than the others? he just stated the facts, that boy bands are produced and managed by professionals and leave no space for creativity and that it bothered him….

    • Locke Lamora says:

But he could have been proffesional and not whine about the band that gave him the opportunity to be a solo act.
He should have been graceful, wait for the hiatus and then go solo. Which probably Harry and co. will do and no one will fault them for it.

      • Mira says:

Harry is the perfectly trained PR puppy, he is very, very good at saying the right thing. Cowell trained him well. Zayn wears his heart on his sleeve even to his detriment. Maybe thats wrong but people are different.

      • claire says:

Harry is also witty, quirky, self-deprecating and charming. Zayn’s kinda lacking in those areas.

      • Gina says:

Claire, if you even paid the slightest bit of attention to Zayn, instead of being all the way up Harry’s behind, you would see that he possesses much of the same endearing qualities that Harry does. Just because Zayn is an introvert and not the showboat that Harry is, doesn’t mean he is lacking in personality. You just have to pay attention.

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt because it’s Simon Cowell & Co. I remember watching a clip when they put them together as a group. They were completely different music styles but because they were around the same age it worked. One direction does make generic, bland music he’s not wrong, maybe now that he’s an adult & wants to make his own decisions.

  9. Nancy says:

This is just the norm for the young, in particular famous couples, PICTURES on ig. They’re cute. I have never once posted a pic of me and my man but then again who would look…..lol. Let them be young and happy and just a little smug…..ain’t we pretty?!

  10. Tulsa says:

The stench of Douche is strong in this photo.

  11. Ad says:

She looks she’s popping his zit…and he’s enjoying it?

  12. CFY says:

Every time he opens his mouth and does his Debbie Downer thing I remember the blind items that he didn’t quit 1D, he was fired, and I believe them more and more. There’s a bitterness from him towards everything surrounding the band – even his bandmates – that seems to be best explained by his being forced out.

    • Mira says:

Not really. Harry and especially Louis seem bitter about him, what with making fun of him in interviews and kicking a poster of him in concert,
I agree that he is bitter about the music though.

    • Gina says:

Simon has Blind Gossip in his back pocket as well as many publications over in the UK. Do you really think Simon is gonna let Zayn go solo without slandering him first and damaging his chances of having a solo career? Simon is all about making himself look good, if he puts out the message that Zayn was fired (instead of being worked to death & creatively stifled by management) then he ends up looking good in the media & not like the dictator that he is. Please use your brain & not believe everything you read. One Direction’s contract with Simon ends soon & they are running far away from Simon as soon as it does. It’s no coincidence that certain publications have been slandering them left and right making sure that their brand is damaged. Simon is a VERY powerful man.

  13. Jaana says:

I may be the odd one out but I think this relationship is purely for PR purposes. I may be wrong, but I think Gigi plays for the other team but dates guys to please her mother who doesn’t want her playing volleyball and “thought she had a lesbian for a daughter”. (Yolanda’s words)

    • Tulsa says:

I believe you are right. This has PR written all over it. They are currently trying really hard to build this guys “Image” in order for him to have a solo career. They have steadily been planting him at fashion shows since he left ID. Trying to turn him into some sort of Fashionista, now they need him to have a model as a girlfriend, since Gigi is on the rise it makes sense to have her date him.

      • Mira says:

They are probably hooking up AND using each other. But thats no different from Gigi and Joe Jonas/ the weird looking australian both very publicised affairs. And Zayn and his previous girlfriend Perri. Or Harry and Kendall/Taylor/ various people Harry dated and went to like the pumpkin place or Mr Nice guy with i.e knowing very well he would be photographed with said girl by paparazzi by going there. Not to mention Taylor swift and everyone she ever dated. The thing is most hollywood relationships have an element of this, even Brangelina are more powerful together than apart hence they gain more as a brand by being together than being apart. I am sure Gigi and Zayne are aware, and play into it. But i don’t see this as any different then say Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris who rolled out their affair in a very similar way.

  14. Babadook says:

I Feel like we all knew Horan was the worst songwriter in the group.

  15. vanessa says:

Congrats to zayn’s and Gigi’s Publicists.

  16. Jenni says:

Being “professional girlfriend” or “professional beard” is a form of prostitution in my opinion.

  17. Mylene - Montreal says:

This guy ! … i CAN’T ! What the hell she do with this guy ?

  18. Skins says:

When he was with 1D he was the only one who I thought could sing even a little bit. Would be nice if he would put something out there to show what he can do. As far as silver spoon, she just bores me, nothing about her to even talk about

  19. Mira says:

    @ Kaiser
He isn’t allowed to release music that is in direct competition with 1D. Hence why he is releasing his album next year when they are on a hiatus.

  20. Lucy says:

Such love, many real, wow. Gosh, he’s an a-hole.

  21. NeoCleo says:

“Zayn doesn’t have many friends?” Hee!

  22. Jess says:

I came home from college and walked right into 1D Mania (my little cousins). Forced to watch their concert DVD on repeat, I realized: they have a nice sound. I subsequently saw the 1D Movie (GooglePlay rental is amazingly convenient!) and 1D seems like a great bunch of cinderella stories. Very lucky kids.

But personality wise you can see how Zayn might have had “problems being heard.” He definitely seems like he has problems communicating and expressing how important something is to him. Then when his friends didn’t understand and would go with a different style or sound, he would sulk. That’s how I perceive the dynamic anyway.

Zayn seems the type to not fight hard and to just let the other rowdier boys roll their input in over his. It’s a maturity thing, an adjusting thing. By 20s, you should become well adjusted but interacting, being heard, all that grown up stuff, is acquired gradually.

I’m a first generation immigrant to the USA and I think Zayn, growing up in a “not mainstream” culture, a little bit of an “outsider” culture (Muslim, Middle Eastern descent), and the other boys being very typical British, that can happen. I don’t think he handled everything as professionally as he could have but I certainly hope he learns and grows and gets to make the music he wants.

    • mira says:

This is a really good comment. I think it was the daily beast who had an article when Zayn left the band where they pointed out that Zayn grappled with different issues then the rest of the band and it always set him apart.

  23. lile says:

    One word – YUCK!

  24. me says:

In a few months, he’ll be replaced with another one.

  25. Alana says:

Indifferent towards it ,most young couples post what they consider cute pics of them esp at beginning. I do hate that some people( fans?) hold on to others past relationship and hate on the new one. How stupid is that? How would you like if a bunch of strangers kept telling you that you should be with your ex etc constantly when you have moved on?

  26. Eru says:

Those stupid boybanders that think they are super talented and can make on their own. Only to realize later that no one cares about them when they are solo.
