Jennifer Aniston’s Goop interview: she loves water, hates tomatoes & Chinese food

FFN_Aniston_Jenn_SBMFMPXX_EXC_121215_51928693

Here are some photos of Jennifer Aniston on the set of The Yellow Birds a few weeks ago. I just never got around to posting these photos for whatever reason, possibly because the wiglet is really, really bad and I just wanted it out of my sight. If you’re really looking, you can see that Jennifer is holding a bottle of SmartWater. When she gets pap’d these days, she’s almost always carrying SmartWater. She’s got a massive SmartWater contract, and I believe she’s a profit-sharer in the company. Which is why she’s constantly shilling it, visually and verbally. Which brings me to this – Jennifer sat down for an interview with Goop.com. I do not believe Gwyneth Paltrow conducted this interview at all, although that would be funny (Gwyneth and That TV Girl). The piece was done “in partnership” with SmartWater, because I guess that’s what we have to say now instead of just calling it what it is: an infomercial/advertisement. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

Her tips for the holidays: “Don’t over-extend yourself too much. There is nothing worse than wearing yourself down during what is already a busy time for everyone. I know sometimes it’s hard to not over-commit to friends and family during the holidays but I try to be mindful of it.”

What she does religiously every day: “I start every day with a good, solid breakfast. I like to meditate every day for even just a few minutes—it helps clear the mind. I take a good multivitamin every day as well.”

Her tips for staying hydrated: “Carry bottles of water with you everywhere you go. During the not-so-hot seasons in Los Angeles I keep a case of smartwater and smartwater sparkling in my car. In the summer I keep a cooler in the car to keep it cold. When you carry a bottle with you all the time you just get into the routine of drinking a lot of water.”

What’s sacred to her: “Spending time with my husband, my dogs, and long-time girlfriends. Those times are sacred to me and I would never give them up.”

Go-to weeknight meal? “Most nights I have protein and veggies for dinner and a chopped salad, no tomatoes for lunch!”

Best gift she’s ever received: “When my husband surprises me when I’m away working.”

Best gift she’s ever given: “When I surprise my husband when he is working.”

How she stays “ageless”: “I have said this before but it’s the truth—I really think hydration is so important…and sleep! I drink smartwater all day everyday and I like the new smartwater sparkling water at night with meals. I take care of my skin and try not to go into the sun as much as I used to. Also we are as young as we feel and treating yourself right is a great way to feel good. Being happy is also a key to looking and feeling younger.”

On her favorite Chinese restaurant: “I’m not big on Chinese food.”

[From Goop.com]

She doesn’t like Chinese food?! How is that possible? God, I think I’m going to go out for some pre-Christmas Chinese food tonight. I don’t know what I would do without Chinese food in my life. But Aniston is so LA – I bet she prefers sushi. I also don’t get the dislike of tomatoes. It’s become more common, at least from what I’ve seen – why is tomato-hate suddenly on the rise? Tomatoes are awesome and good for you. As for how she stays “ageless” – I could actually feel Gwyneth Paltrow eyerolling from here.

Jennifer has always loved Mexican food. That’s her favorite food.

She really overdid the Smartwater references in such a short Q&A. You can schill something without being overbearing and so overt about it.

    • Jegede says:

      I can relate.

I hate Chinese, but love Thai food

    • funcackes says:

Doesn’t Mexican food have tomatoes in it? God, is she one of those people that has to have it made a special way?
      Now I want Taco Bell.

    • Cricket says:

does she drink smartwater with her husband? blah blah blah.. smartwater.. blah blah blah.. my husband.. overload agreed..

      • funcackes says:

        Hehehe

      • ann says:

From May 26 on daily mail, there is a picture of her breakfast on Instagram along with this.
.Good morning, Instagram!’ the 46-year-old actress wrote along with a snap of her healthy and hearty breakfast which included a poached egg atop a slice of toast, accompanied with sliced tomatoes and avocado.
When are people going to realize that if her lips are moving, it’s a lie. She can’t even keep track anymore. Can’t stand this woman.

      • Kitten says:

I simply cannot believe that she would lie about something as important as tomatoes. In fact, if I hadn’t seen the photographic proof then I wouldn’t believe it.

        I’m crestfallen.

Now, if she does the same thing with mushrooms it will be considered the ultimate betrayal.

      • yellow says:

So maybe she just prefers them on some things and not others. Not uncommon.

      • Tiffany :) says:

To be fair, she didn’t say she hates tomatoes. She said she doesn’t get them in the salad she has at lunch.

I love REAL tomatoes, like the kind from a garden, but I can’t handle the massed produced balls (BALLS) of nothingness that some restaurants and grocery stores call tomatoes. In the effort to make them indestructible in transport, the food industrial complex has made them flavorless.

My nightmares are made of those white-on-the-inside tomatoes you fill find lurking in many sandwiches. Those are actually unripe tomatoes they have gassed to turn red on the outside. They are still unripe on the inside. Blech

    • lucy2 says:

I don’t know, Smartwater, I didn’t really notice anything weird about Smartwater saying smartwater a million times. Smartwater. SMARTWATER!

I love Mexican food but hate tomatoes (except in sauce form). I usually scoop out any I see.

  2. Sullivan says:

Aniston is just doing her part for landfills everywhere.

    • Snipy says:

      YES!

    • mayamae says:

As are millions of other Americans. It’s a shame.

      • Holmes says:

As are millions of Europeans and millions of Asians, which I noticed when I lived on said continents. Americans may be the worst offender, but this is far from just an American problem.

    • Snazzy says:

What a waste !! Buy a good water bottle and refill at home! Yes to carrying around water but no to such excessive waste. What an idiot

PS I also hate tomatoes. Both the taste and texture make me vomit. Love chinese tho 😀

      • doofus says:

the tomato thing could be an indigestion thing. I love them but the acidity ALWAYS gives me indigestion.

I still eat them, though, just take some tums afterwards.

      • gatinha says:

100%, unless it is a tomato from somebody’s garden or maybe farmer market, I won’t eat it. I have never bought a tomato at a grocery store that wasn’t mushy and gross….maybe I am buying the wrong type of tomato?

      • SamiHami says:

I hate tomatoes as well. I like things you can make with them; spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, etc. But just plain old raw tomatoes? That’s a big nope.

      • lucy2 says:

Agreed Sami. Sauce it up, but raw, hell no. I live in NJ and we apparently have amazing tomatoes here, but the taste of them, blech.

      • doofus says:

lucy2, THEY ARE AMAZING! The ones you get in the store these days taste like NOTHING.

can’t wait until summer again…tomatoes, corn, peaches, blueberries…NJ in summer rocks!

      • crtb says:

Tomatoes is part of the Evening Shade Vegetables. Many people don’t eat Evening Shade Veggies because they are suppose to cause inflammation.

      • iseepinkelefants says:

I used to think I hated tomatoes (I had a friend who’s mother used to eat them raw) but then I came to Paris and they eat tomatoes with balsamic vinaigrette as a salad. I think it was more a mental thing. Tomatoes don’t really taste like anything. Or it depends on the type? Anyway I eat them a lot more and I realize my distaste for them didn’t really come from anything, more I thought I hated them. But then again I eat a lot of stuff here I didn’t used to eat (eggplant, leakes, peas). Or maybe the vegetables here just taste better.

      • FLORC says:

        iseePinkelefants
Types of tomatoes taste different. Also if they are served after being raw or oil packed, packed with or without excess seeds and jusices. When harvested. There’s a lot that goes into it.
When i’m sick of tomatoes, but don’t want them to go bad I marinate them in vinegar, oil, and a blend of seasonings. Then eat out of the marinade or in a salad. It’s always tasty.

Same applies to all veggies imo. Nothing tastes like my garden grown veggies. Fresh picked is ideal and I know what variations i prefer.

Like most things. It’s all in how we season/prepare.

    • K2 says:

If she really has two cases of water in her car at all times, then that’s also a waste of fuel. Water is pretty heavy, nobody can drink that much in one sitting, so over a year that’s gas burned for absolutely no purpose at all.

Then again, I doubt she does any such thing.

      • Mare says:

Plus I thought you weren’t suppose to leave plastic bottles in your car. Something about the heat releasing fluorocarbons.

      • FLORC says:

        Mare
You’re not. Depends on the bottle too. Although, I’m not sure there are some bottles that are safe in the heat totally.
That doesn’t go for water itself. Correct temps create ideal breeding grounds for bacteria. Water you’ve exposed to the bacteria in your mouth, on your lips, exposed to heat and light… Yea. Not too good.

    • Tarsha says:

Yeah, I can’t believe she is so proud of it and so shameless about it. She is promoting pollution and a lot of the time those bottles end up in our waterways and in the ocean. She has no concept of self-awareness.

    • Summerdog says:

She’s basically just shilling plastic bottles. It’s completely reprehensible. This whole company is based on marketing plastic bottles…. I call it ‘not smart for the planet water’.

Why don’t you shill for something less destructive to the planet Jen! (ps I quite enjoy watching her movies)

    • FuefinaWG says:

Landfills were the first thing I thought of, and then the pile of plastic the size of Texas floating in the ocean.
I have 2 Voss glass water bottles that I wash and refill. JA promoting water in a plastic bottle is disgusting.
The next time I need a glass bottle I’ll probably go to Amazon …

  3. Jackie says:

I’m sure the weed & margaritas are key elements to her lifestyle, too.

“My husband this” and “My husband that”…. she paid enough for him, might as shill The Relationship. Not sure why at this point; for either of them.

  4. Ann says:

I feel her, never liked Chinese food either.

    • Jenni says:

I don’t like asian food in general. Just not my cup of tea.

    • mp says:

Chinese food is so broad though, we are talking about a country of 1 billion people. All the varieties of food are mind numbing. But Seriously, if a Kardashian said this, wouldn’t we be like, “Um..that’s so ignorant? To dismiss thousands of years of cuisine, just like that?”Also, American Chinese food is really different than Chinese food in China. It’s just so sad that this celebrity who has the ability to be so well-traveled is so GD pedestrian. Japanese food and Chinese food share a lot of similarities so if she loves sushi, I’m SURE there’s someone in China who makes great sushi.

also Asian food includes: (Southeast Asia)- India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Japan, Korea, Thailand, China, Cambodia, and also maybe even Russian food (depending on how you classify that part of the continent), which mingles with some parts of China and makes some really amazing food. I guarantee you that there is SOMETHING that people eat there which they would find delicious.

Sorry, guys, I just think that it’s ok to say that you haven’t tried it all but to so readily dismiss it…

      • Lambda says:

I had kimchi for breakfast, and if I could swim in a vat of doubanjiang, I would, and if I’m lucky my last meal will be a big steaming bowl of pho. People are missing out. More for me. PS Aniston is a uninspiring human billboard for useless products.

      • Bridget says:

I think it’s okay for someone to say they don’t like a style of cooking, whether they be an Aniston or a Kardashian. It turns out that people are allowed to have different likes and dislikes, and it doesn’t make them ignorant.

And finding someone in China who makes sushi doesn’t make it Chinese food. What a strange thing to say.

      • crtb says:

I don’t like Indian food. So what? people are allowed to not like different kinds of food. I’m Black and don’t eat Soul food either. Who cares?

      • Tiffany :) says:

Mexican food and some Asian foods also share a lot of ingredients due to migration: cilantro, peppers, etc.

      • mp says:

Bridget, the evidence shows that sushi was in some other SE Asian nations and China, before it spread to Japan. At one point, sushi was considered “Chinese” Food. Also, China invented noodles (though tell the Italians that and yikes!). But it’s generally accepted that noodles are a Chinese invention.

And no one is forcing anyone to eat anything if you don’t like it. But I think it’s good to consider that a lot of delicious things we like to eat may be Chinese in origin, more than you (or Aniston) think and actually Aniston is pretty “big” on Chinese food…

I don’t know, I guess CB is not the right place for history lessons.

  5. lori says:

I’m imagining in between these “questions” , Aniston begging goop to tell her her again how she made brad cry when she broke off engagement…

    • lisa2 says:

I like to think Brad looks back and gives a big sigh of relief.. WAIT.. nope Brad doesn’t look back.

    • AmyB says:

@lori: LOL!! Is that true the Goop was the one to break off that engagement to Pitt? I just don’t remember. I have to say though, looking at Goop, Aniston and Jolie, he definitely picked the best choice. Goop and Aniston can come across so damn shallow at times, like Aniston in this interview. Talk about boring, but then again, she is not responsible for the questions.

      • Bridget says:

The rumor has been that Goop messed around on Brad.

      • Emma - The JP Lover says:

        @Bridget …

The rumor is right. Goop was banging Ben Affleck when the engagement with Brad ended (the write ups right after the breakup mentioned a fight leading up to it in which Good admitted to cheating on Brad). Goop has said that she was young and silly and acted horribly when she was with Brad, and that he was faithful during their relationship.

    • funcackes says:

I’m glad someone bought this up. Havane doing his brad stalking again to keep people talking. She should really move on to another publicist.

  6. MonicaQ says:

    Electrolytes! It’s what plants crave!

(All I was hearing as I read that. You’re saying words, I don’t think you understand what they mean).

    • Antonym says:

Welcome to Costco, I love you

    • Crumpet says:

“You keep using that word. I don’t think you know what it means.”
      Inigo Montoya

      Best. Line. Ever.

    • Bridget says:

      It’s got electrolytes!

    • BrandyAlexander says:

In all fairness, there is something to the electrolytes. My MIL is on dialysis and was hospitalized 3 times in the spring with severe dehydration. And she drinks water like crazy because she knows she is susceptible to it. Her doctors actually told her to drink smart water instead of regular, and she hasn’t been hospitalized once since she started. I know everyone likes to make fun of it because of JA, but anything that keeps MIL out of the emergency room is all right by me.

      • mp says:

I know kidney dialysis patients are more sensitive than normal patients to things like sodium, fluoride, and chloride, and other chemicals that are naturally in tap water. I’m glad your MIL is ok!

      • BrandyAlexander says:

Thanks, mp. She actually wasn’t drinking tap water either, but bottled store bought water. I know some people will say that IS tap water, but that’s a whole different discussion. LOL. She has some other issues that probably make it worse for her too, but smart water seriously is the only thing that keeps her sufficiently hydrated. For that, I can’t hate on it. OR JA for schilling it, because I definitely want it to stay around.

    • FLORC says:

      “Water? Like, from the toilet?”

      That movie is a GEM!

Smart water is horrible. I can boil water, condense the steam back into water making it distilled and bad for you until you add salts back into it. AKA Electrolytes!
The bottles use way too much plastic too.

And I LOOOVE Tomatoes! The only time I don’t love them is when I grow them too fast to give away. I won’t let them go to waste either. Too meaty!
      And chinese food? Love it.

Last bit. Her lunch and dinners sound like the same thing she always has. A chicken caesar salad. Protein with a salad is just that. I swear if she doesn’t have a margarita or smart water bottle with her she’s eating a chicken salad with a diet coke.

      • Breakfast Margaritas says:

Dasani and a few other brands claim to have electrolytes added as well. I prefer the taste of Smart Water. Dasani tastes very bitter to me while Smart Water doesn’t. I’m on some meds that taste a little yucky but I find that downing them with Smart Water works without the added calories of juice. My only complaint is that it doesn’t come in gallon size jugs but it costs the same or slightly more than a gallon.

      • FLORC says:

Smartwater has always tasted as it is to me. Run through dirty pipes. It doesn’t taste clean like well water or spring water.

Smartwater and Dasani with some other brands have all been accused of adding small doses of ingredients not forced to be labled as ingested items. Like Nicotine. And there was a case where a few people quitting smoking where able to curb withdrawl by pounding those waters. The same effects as a heroin addict using chocolate to ease withdrawl. So, it seems there’s something there.

If nothing else I hate how smart water bottles of way too thick.

  7. Amy Tennant says:

I will gladly take all the tomatoes they don’t want.

I’m trying to remember.. didn’t Goop say something kind of shade-like when Brad and Jennifer married? Not that it matters, it was a long time ago, but I remember she said something kind of funny.

    • Jayna says:

I remember Ben and Gwyneth being broken up during that period of them getting married, but he flew to Paris to be with her even though broken up. It’s the first I realized she was upset by Brad’s marriage.

  8. Miss Jupitero says:

I have two stepdaughters who lived in China and they are both now connoisseurs of all the different regions of Chinese food. I cannot live without it, especially dim sum. I cannot trust anyone who says they hate Chinese food. That is soooo very Goop.

    • FingerBinger says:

American chinese food isn’t the same as what your stepdaughters had in China. There’s a difference.

      • Kitten says:

        Exactly. Two very different thinigs.

I HATE American Chinese food but love the authentic shit.

      • Bridget says:

Yeah, but it’s not like Jennifer Aniston wouldn’t have plenty of opportunities to eat well-made, authentic Chinese food, including Dim Sum. It just may not be her cup of tea.

    • O_o_Odesa says:

I know! Who doesn’t love dim sum???

    • Galex says:

I agree–and its really culturally and geographically reductive (though I don’t really expect a sophisticated global perspective from Jennifer Aniston). Saying you hate Chinese food is, like, I don’t know–saying you hate European food. Between Sichuan, Cantonese, Shandong, Xinjiang, Anhui…….etc, etc. There’s such a variety.

    • CL says:

Goop didn’t say it; Aniston did

  9. lowercaselois says:

I don’t see in the interview that she hates tomatoes, she says ” no tomatoes for lunch ” Some people can’t eat tomatoes, because of the high acid upsets the reflux. Sorry she doesn’t like Chinese, I think it is great comfort food and it is fun to go out and share dishes.

  10. Patricia says:

Chinese food as its made in America makes me sick to my stomach every time.
Chinese food as made by my friend’s Chinese mother (the authentic way I guess) is amazing and fresh and healthy.

Anyway she’s so basic it hurts. Basic.

    • AmyB says:

That was my feeling too: can these answers be anymore mundane or basic? UGH

    • Miss Jupitero says:

The fast food version of Chinese is truly a desecration. Too much salt, fat, and sugar. Ugh.

    • tracking says:

Yes, it can be difficult to get high-quality Chinese food , which is amazing. But the low grade, greasy takeout I have easy access to–no thanks.

    • Hawkeye says:

This was my first thought as well.

    • ladysussex says:

THANK YOU! That’s the perfect word for her. “Basic”. I’ve seen interviews of her over the years, including “Inside the Actors Studio”, and I didn’t think it was possible to be so insipid. I thought maybe it was a fluke, maybe she was nervous, etc. But no, she is consistently dull and not at all smart.

    • pk says:

I agree with all of you regarding Jen being basic.

    • AmyB says:

And after all these years and all the interviews Aniston has given, now it makes sense to me those comments Brad Pitt once made (that he got eviscerated for saying): he claimed he was living an “uninteresting life” while married to Aniston. She does come across as very vapid and dull….sorry if that offends her fans. I loved Jen in Friends and I am sure she is very sweet and nice person. But she doesn’t seem to have much depth to her character, as evidenced by this dull interview. Angelina seems to be the opposite of that, and I am sure that is what drew Brad to her.

  11. Talie says:

I just recently found a Chinese place that doesn’t make me feel like crap after I eat it. It is tough to find just the right takeout joint.

    • lucy2 says:

I used to have a good one, but after not having it for a long time, I ordered my favorite dish from there the other night. They totally changed the way they made it, and it was so gross. 🙁

  12. lisa says:

why is vegetable such a hard word for adults?

  13. Lucky Charm says:

She looks like Laura Dern in these pictures. And I agree you should stay hydrated and drink lots of water, but please NO to all that bottled water!!! It’s a huge waste of resources to make the plastic and takes space in our landfills.

    • funcackes says:

And I just bought a pack of 35. I’m going back to my dollar store cup to drink out of. Plus having a bunch of plastic empties in my car drives me crazy.

  14. CornyBlue says:

I do not eat raw tomatoes at all. I cried once because i asked my friend to get me a Subway sandwich with no tomatoes and he thought i said only tomatoes and got me the abomination.

  15. Ava says:

It is always me me me when it comes to Jennifer – is she really this shallow, vain and self-centred?

  16. I Choose Me says:

Eh, preferences. We all have them. I love Chinese food but I also hate tomatoes. I can only eat them if they’re roasted or stewed down in some type of sauce.

  17. She’s had more work done..and that wig..

  18. Twink says:

I love how she’s asked how she stays ageless, she’s certainly no JLo, omg how does she look so young?! She’s worshipped the sun and it shows.

    • ladysussex says:

So right, I think that’s the big difference between her and her contemporary Courtney Cox. I know Courtney’s had a lot of fillers and botox, but her skin is still great and luminous. You can really see at this age, ladies, how much the sun has damaged your skin in years past. (I know I’m getting there myself!)

  19. Pants says:

I’ve never liked tomatoes much myself, but I like tomato products (sauce, ketchup)… To me, actual tomatoes are pretty gross, with some exceptions. I like it diced up with cucumber, onion and feta cheese for shepherd’s salad. And cooked down in some foods. But actual tomatoes alone? Nope.

  20. Annaloo. says:

Had a premonition, I’m placing bets that Goop folds in 2-3 years

  21. K says:

I despise Chinese food. I think it’s gross and it gives me the worst migraines.
I hate hate hate hate Chinese food, I don’t think it’s that strange or an LA thing. It’s just gross food and if she gets migraines then the number one food to avoid.

I also love love love Mexican. I don’t get the not liking tomatoes but I know it’s common.

    • WTW says:

First of all, I love Chinese food but want to thank you for pointing out that it’s not an LA thing to dislike it. I live in LA and tire of the LA stereotypes, especially from people who don’t seem to have visited there or have made only superficial trips. LA is home to the San Gabriel Valley, one of the biggest enclaves of Chinese people (and food) in the country. The Chinese food there has been written up by the New York Times. It’s certainly not an LA thing to hate Chinese food, and I’m not sure why Kaiser jumped to that conclusion. And given that Aniston is not an LA native, I really don’t understand how her not liking it is somehow reflective of LA. LA has a large Asian population and your average Angeleno is accustomed to eating a variety of Asian cuisines.

      • analee says:

Thank you. I am an L.A. native, and still live there, and get tired of the stereotypes as well…There is a *great* variety of foods of many ethnicities available in Los Angeles, as it has enormous ethnic diversity itself. There is *lots* of Chinese food available in L.A., of many different varieties, as well. It’s just so weird to believe that not liking (or having access to) Chinese food is an “L.A. thing.” After New York, and maybe SF, we probably have more Chinese restaurants than any other city in the U.S.!

      • Greenieweenie says:

Best Chinese food in North America is in Vancouver. I never found better (at my modest price range) even in San Francisco.

If you haven’t had thick hand-pulled noodles with bits of beef, cilantro, green onion and a mix of hot and sour condiments–you haven’t lived, man. There is SO much good Chinese food to be had. My favorite is Muslim.

No, you won’t really find that in LA but you probably could in NYC if you look hard enough. Dismiss an entire regional cuisine at your culinary peril, I say….

      • ann says:

Greenieweenie. Please tell me the place you go for Chinese, as we go to Vancouver every couple of years and all I know is Hon’s and that was 10 years ago at least. Thanks, and I’d like to try Muslim too if you can recommend one in Vancouver.

    • Josephine says:

The migraines are very likely from MSG, which is common in cheap Chinese food (and lots of packaged foods). Unless you’ve tried 100s of Chinese restaurants, my guess is that you just hate cheap, low-quality Chinese food. Real Chinese food is hard to come by in the States, and there are many cuisines within the broad range of “Chinese food,” so not liking one has nothing to do with not liking 100s of others.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

If you don’t like Chinese food, does that make it “gross?” It’s not your preference, but after a certain age, people appreciate that the world is filled with different types of food – some of which we personally may like, some of which we might not like. But calling it names like a kid is to insulting a food culture developed over thousands of years by a sophisticated people.

Some of whom might call Mexican food “gross” and then you wouldn’t like that, eh?

Also, if a food gives someone migraines, it’s time to check out why — the MSG (though that’s controversial), the wheat from which soy sauce is brewed, the high sodium, etc. There are all kinds of migraine triggers in foods, and not only Chinese food.

    • Mel says:

K, if it’s giving you migraines it’s probably because of monosodium glutamate, the “flavour enhancer” that is often added to Chinese (and some other) food.

      • Jwoolman says:

Anybody sensitive to MSG should be cautious about aspartame also. I’ve never had trouble with MSG myself but some people do seem to be sensitive to too high a level of free glutamate.

Also you can look for info about low-glutamate diets to see if there are other foods you might avoid or minimize.

  22. babs says:

We’re getting Chinese food for our big Christmas Eve dinner!

    • funcackes says:

That sounds like fun. Sick of the traditional foods.

      • Malak says:

I can’t stand traditional Christmas food either. NO to turkey and cranberry sauce!
I like shellfish. Others in my family like duck or salmon. There will be no turkey on our table.

Love good Chinese meals, including dim sum.

    • doofus says:

that was my family tradition, too…started because it’s really hard to find any restaurant open (in my small town) on Xmas eve.

We’d drive around after Mass and the only thing still open and cooking (pizza place offered us “what’s left” but wasn’t making any more pies) was the Chinese restaurant.

    • Bridget says:

Our traditional Christmas Eve celebration is cancelled this year, Chinese food sounds like a good idea!

  23. babs says:

Has Goop been in any movies lately? Can’t even think of one. Maybe she’s quit acting to be a mogul like Martha.

  24. Smartwarer smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater smartwater…..ahh, f**k it. Let’s go get some fries.

  25. tmc says:

I actually like her but this is just boring. And, yes, maybe it is the questions and maybe it is the overt sponsorship but I feel like she has worked for so long not to reveal too much that she has lost the art of being genuine and not shilling. Maybe better to just not do an interview for a very long time and not have so many commercial endorsements. Sometimes I read a style magazine and there she is in three advertisements in one magazine!

And totally agree re: landfills and carrying around bottled water. Some celebrities just lose sight of the larger picture in order to make money. Bring back principles. Same goes for all these celebs shilling for Loreal (almost every female celeb and new star) which does animal testing! You can say no. (Also a note to the consumer to avoid Loreal for the same reason! And there are a zillion other companies to avoid sadly too for that reason.)

  26. Fan says:

Not only food including them. She hates them copying her hair too according to the news that I heard sometime ago. Personally, I don’t believe so.

  27. Tarsha says:

No shade from me on Chinese food. I HATE Chinese food. To me, it is like eating cardboard. It has no flavour. It is like eating nothing. I really don’t get why people like it. I do love Thai, Malaysian and Indian.

    • Holmes says:

If she’s referring to American Chinese food, I understand why she doesn’t like it. As is case with most Americanized “food,” it is by and large nasty and unpalatable. Regional Chinese cuisine is quite varied and many bear little resemblance to each other. if you could go to Chengdu and try real Sichuan cuisine, “flavourless” isn’t a word that would enter your mind.

      • Tarsha says:

Nah, I’ve tried many many Chinese take-aways as well as actual Chinese restaurants (my father loves it), and it has all been the same. I’ve never found one, including various restaurants, that wasn’t flavourless and dull. I guess it just doesn’t appeal to me.

      • Breakfast Margaritas says:

        Lol @ food snobbery…

      • Greenieweenie says:

No really. Flavorless and Sichuan food are oxymorons (Sichuan food is renowned for its spiciness).

    • AmyB says:

It’s the same with Americanized versions of Italian food….authentic Italian is NOT chicken parm same as authentic Chinese is not what you get at most greasy take-out places. Asian cuisine is actually very healthy when cooked authentically and true to its heritage.

      • Malak says:

Yes, Asian food is HEALTHY. Less meat and lots of vegetables, including herbs, as opposed to tons of meat and cream and butter AND sugar of the West.
Various Asian cuisines are very popular here in Australia, and I read that the consumption here of the Asian staple, rice has sky-rocketed.

    • Mel says:

It may be the papillae on your tongue have no sensitivity to “umami” flavours.
      It happens.

  28. perplexed says:

Why was she asked specifically about a favorite Chinese restaurant? That question seemed kind of ….random…

    • lisa2 says:

She was probably asked about a lot of things and these are the ones that were approved for print. When that happens sometimes interviews seem random. She does have control over what she is asked; which is why her interviews are so superficial and focused on the stuff she endorses.

  29. Pansy says:

I’m from the southern U.S., and our locally grown tomatoes in the summer are amazing–nothing at all like the kind you buy in chain grocery stores. But I finally figured out I can get my tomato fix in the cold months with little grape tomatoes, and organic ones aren’t expensive! The mushy, reddish balls they try to pass off as tomatoes are terrible. Tomatoes and cottage cheese, with Italian seasoning….oh my goodness.

  30. Chelly says:

I dont like tomatoes either. Never have….I always put them to the side when they appear anywhere onmy plate. Its taste doesnt appeal to me & the squishy texture i can do without.

  31. Fluff says:

I couldn’t eat raw tomatoes at all till a couple of years ago, then my tastes suddenly totally changed. Ditto olives and beetroot. It was weird.

  32. Ifusayso says:

I’ve been hating tomatoes for 28 years. Well I like them in Mexican, soups and stewed or roasted but never plain. EW

  33. jane says:

I wonder what she thinks of Chinese people.

  34. Nouveau says:

She’s so calorie obsessed it’s not wonder she doesn’t like Chinese food – it’s got oil in it. Bottled water is unethical, isn’t it? Why doesn’t she shrill stainless steel bottles of filtered water? Much better for the planet.

  35. Marie says:

Okay guys I won’t be big on the tomatoes, bottled water or chinese fond, but one thing just strikes me: she meditates! Really? About her hair or her body or everything vain and dull that she has been feelings us for years now?

  36. Lotta says:

I’ve been to China and had the real food and I hate chinese and mongolian food. I lost so much weight there.
I also don’t like the american version but the worse really disgusting thing is the swedish version of chinese food. Take my advice, if you ever come to Sweden don’t ever go to a swedish version of chinese food.

  37. Lotta says:

I meant swedish version. Don’t go there.

  38. d says:

Fast-food Chinese food is generally awful, not to mention the MSG, so I don’t blame her there. My God, she’s allowed her likes and dislikes. She’d be more milquetoast if she said she liked evrything and evryone. BORING. A little bit of internal judgey rage against a food type is ok (this is what I want to believe is happening)! I used to work with people who went to China on business; REAL Chinese food is a whole other ball game. Youtube and Netflix have some interesting documentaries about Asian food. The best my skin and health has ever been was when I lived in SE Asia and Korea and Japan. So easy to eat fresh food, drink lots of water…there really is value in what she’s saying about hydration. It really generally is very good for you in so many ways. I don’t care that she fronts Smartwater; it’s not like she has a gun to my head to buy it and seriously if people are dumb enough to buy something just because she talks about it, well, that’s on them. She’s shilling pretty much like anyone else who’s shilling a product. Hydration has always been said to be good for us (for any living thing pretty much?).
Anyway, home-grown tomatoes, cheese, fresh basil, fresh bread: one of my very favourite sandwiches in summer. Tomatoes can be sort of easy to grow and taste so much better than the store-bought ones and ugh, usually the ones in the fast food places are terrible. But locally grown tomatoes can be heaven, just heaven and you don’t need much to eat them with. God, I love talking about food.

  39. FLORC says:

No one else caught she ignored her appearance as Aveeno? Are they not paying her anymore?
Pretty big snub considering this was not an interview, but a promotion for her endorsements.

    • lisa2 says:

She just did a SW commercial so this was all in support of SW. I’m sure the other things are coming up later. This seems to be her main thing right now. Endorsements.

      • FLORC says:

It’s always been her main one. Still, other celebs do this correctly. They never give credit to a single product for an effect another product they endorse also gives.
I think she forgets about the others paying her.

  40. raincoaster says:

The woman is Greek, HOW can she hate tomatoes??? That’s just morally wrong.

  41. Fan says:

I miss Rachel. When are they going to have reunion?

  42. GoOnGirl says:

This is not a good luck on Jennifer. But, on the other hand, see she has her nipple pokies. Gotta keep those nipples perky at all costs.

  43. Dinah says:

How many cigarettes do these two women smoke in a day? Cigarettes destroy a woman’s face as quick as alcohol and tanning. They destroy it from within and can never be reversed.

  44. Jwoolman says:

People who have trouble with the acidity of tomatoes might look into Prelief. You can read reviews on Amazon. It’s pretty simple stuff, a form of calcium (calcium glycerophosphate), tiny pills you take as needed when you eat/drink a difficult acidic food such as tomatoes, coffee, tea, fruit juices. Granules can also be sprinkled on food. People with interstitial cystitis say it’s helpful in avoiding flares without putting so many restrictions on the diet, and I first read about it when looking for information about that disorder. The manufacturer says Prelief acts to reduce the acidity of the food itself rather than reducing acidity in the stomach.

  45. Trashaddict says:

Food preferences aside, she looks suspiciously like she’s had fillers. Or maybe that’s the preggo face.

  46. Miran says:

All foods are better when made authentically. Kimchi from a store vs home fermented like my grandmas isnt even a contest

  47. Sara says:

Sad, as she should really be mindful of the plastic bottle situation.
