Rob Kardashian was hospitalized & diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis

Rob Kardashian, the only son that sprang from Kris Jenner’s womb, has a lot of health and mental health issues. He has anxiety issues, OCD issues, and I believe he also struggles with agoraphobia? His weight also fluctuates a lot, and I always thought it was really unfair when people made fun of him for gaining so much weight around 2013-2014. Currently, Rob lives like a recluse at Khloe’s house and she basically looks after him like… the mother he never had. But over the weekend, Rob did spend some time with his family and they became increasingly worried about him. They took him to an LA hospital and Rob was diagnosed with diabetes.

Rob Kardashian was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis … this according to our Kardashian sources. TMZ broke the story … Rob was taken to an L.A. hospital Sunday after feeling terrible all weekend. Our sources say after a battery of tests, Rob was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when someone’s body produces high levels of blood acids, or ketones.

Rob had no idea he was diabetic, and it’s a good thing he took precautionary measures. If untreated, the condition can lead to a diabetic coma. But there’s good news … our Kardashian sources say the doctors told Rob if he eats well and leads a “healthy lifestyle,” he can actually get his diabetes, which is type 2, under control and potentially have it go into remission.

Rob is back at home and resting, and this may be just what the doctor ordered — literally — to get him back on the right path.

[From TMZ]

E!’s Kardashian sources say that Rob “is home already. He went for a little and is fine now. It was a wake up call.” The doctors told him to stop eating so much junk food, to get a healthier diet and start getting serious about losing weight. I do hope this serves as a wakeup call for Rob. And for Khloe too – I know she genuinely adores her brother and she wants to look after him, but I think she ends up “babying” him, you know? There’s a lot of different medication that Rob could try to work on his mental health struggles, and he really needs to start looking after himself overall.

The best thing this young man can do is put as much distance between himself and that toxic waste dump known as his family. Ten bucks says, Demon Mother is already thinking of ways to feature this on KUWTK

    • Erinn says:

Probably looking up weight loss deals as we speak.

      • Ellie says:

Ugh, she definitely is. She’s so awful.

      • MrsBPitt says:

@Erinn…I was just thinking, he should pull an Oprah, and take a deal from a weight loss company…He could make money and lose weight…win-win!!!! I have a soft spot in my heart for Rob after his appearance on Dancing with the Stars. He was so miserable in the beginning of the show, but by the end was beaming with pride!

      • porsha says:

2016 the end of the kardashian crap that’s crap with a c not a God dam k

        The demise is near

      • ISO says:

Overweight depressed people really pull on my heart strings…it’s a condition brought on as a response to child hood abuse issues. Those of us who lean that way in stress would rather hurt ourselves rather than get angry at anyone else 🙁

    • Naya says:

I imagine that even this Kris press release adds to his issues. Having your depression and anxiety replayed for neighbors and workmates would be hell. Imagine if your mother kept the entire world updated too. all of these people are so selfish, it boggles the mind.

      • saras says:

PMK will have him shilling for diabetes meds by next year if he does not die/od first! Whoreable family!

    • Bluebear says:

HE HAS AN AI DISEASE! I was SO sick: agoraphobia, anxiety, insomnia, weight gain from “healthy” to “morbidly obese” in mere months. I was a strict vegan, more because of a desperate need to get my insanely fluctuating health under control since the doctors weren’t doing anything. After five miscarriages, a diagnoses of “Hashimotos disease” and becoming pre diabetic, I fired Kaiser Permanente. Best decision ever!

I came to find that Kaiser is not knowledgable in AI diseases at all. They treated me horribly, finally claiming my mental health was the issue and trying to have me committed. I found a fantastic doctor who diagnosed Celiac disease, PCOS, interstitial cystitis, endometriosis AND adenomyosis and got me off of the dangerous T4 only Meds Kaiser insisted were optimal.
I finally have my life back. I lost my 20’s entirely thanks to Kaiser’s irresponsible actions.

Since having this all happen I have met dozens of people just like me. Sick, exhausted and facing horrible health alone and untreated because of the hatred our country has for obesity. Instead of true healthcare we receive anger, jeers, comments, and apathy. “If they just lost some weight…” But if weightl gain is a SYMPTOM of a health issue you may never find out the root cause. Not with the wall of disgust the medical community has built against “fat”. I was on the road to death, suffering with heart palpitations, hair loss, brain fog, and exhaustion. I just couldn’t fight, and they weren’t going to listen to the fat lady.

      • Emma says:

He didn’t have DKA, I am guessing. It can occur in type 2 diabetes, but rarely, and usually only occurs after a “precipitating event” such as a severe infection or e.g. a gastro illness.
DKA usually requires admission to an intensive care unit to stabilise the blood pH (among other things), and it doesn’t just take “a little while” to recover – ICU usually for at least 24 hours, then ward-based endocrine management to ensure the patient has the right insulin schedule/dose/education.
The more likely diagnosis is HONK – hyper-osmotic, non-ketotic acidosis.
Regardless, poor Socks. He can hook up with Paula Deen for some sweet endorsements.

      • Belle says:

Type II diabetes is not an AI disease, but Type I is.

Type II is brought on by being overweight or obese, lack of exercise, and poor diet. If caught early, it can be reversed – if the proper changes to diet and lifestyle are made and maintained.

    • BRE says:

But how can he really distance himself? I doubt he really has much of his own money and he hasn’t really had a job and probably didn’t get that big of a check for the reality shows like his sisters.

  2. The New Classic says:

Sad, sad, sad. I really hope this is the wake up
call that he needs. I would love to see him get healthy again.

  3. Patricia says:

    So sad. Poor guy.
I’m not superstitious but still I have to wonder if there really is a curse against any man associated with the Kardashian women. It’s really crazy how every man in their circle has some major problem (except Kanye, so far at least).

    • saras says:

Kanye lost a lot of respect and cred/fans when he hooked up with kimmode. He buys awards and press for himself/them. They will finish him off eventually…

      • claire says:

I have to imagine he bought that GQ Stylish Man of the Year award he just won this week ’cause that is just straight up nonsense.

      • saras says:

Lol I know that such crap! All he wears is ill fitting sweats and rolled up pants with casual sneakers/shoes. He looks like a homeless rich guy most of the time so if he lost the diamonds/gold chains he just looks like he pulled his outfit out of a charity box. I wish he would give money to the poor who obviously are the real curators of his “look”!!! That zoolander movie really nailed the rich snobs penchant for derelict’e wear…

  4. QQ says:

Poor Socks Kardashian, He needs to move far far away from them all and “Iyanla Fix My Life” Himself Up

  5. Sam says:

I just feel bad for Rob. I remember when he was on Dancing with the Stars and he seemed so genuinely happy and placed 2nd. But I always thought the family wasn’t so thrilled since Kim did it first and kind of bombed out and wasn’t very good at it.

That family is all about image, so having an obese, diabetic, mentally ill kid around simply won’t do. I have no doubt that Kris would drag him out, though, if it meant making money (like the Biggest Loser or something like that). Rob probably needs mental health intervention more than anything else at this point, but I doubt the family would allow it. He’s living a life where he knows he is simply not cared for as much as his sisters, and it seems like most of them, other than Khloe, are willing to just leave him behind. I just feel so badly for him. It can’t be easy.

  6. Renae says: says:

My heart goes out to him. I think the last thing he wants now is media attention and public scrutiny. But, yes the K Klan will even use their own blood if it suits them. Now they will all be filmed bombarding him to get on their fitness regimen, which I have a hard time figuring out what regimen gives you bubble lips, bubble breasts and bubble butts while exercising obssessively. There, I said it.

    • Jwoolman says:

Their fitness routine is pretty simple:
      1. Call paparazzi.
      2. Go to gym for a smoothie. (Important: Don’t forget to take an empty gym bag!)
      3. Dab some water on your brow .
      4. Call paparazzi again to make sure they’re waiting for you.
      5. Leave gym.
      6. Go to liposuction appointment (important: Don’t call paparazzi!)
      7. Repeat as needed.

  7. swack says:

With the weight he gained it is not surprising he has diabetes. If Khloe is babying him she needs to stop.

  8. Nancy says:

Poor Robert. He’s like the Marilyn Munster of that family of his. It always seemed as though he was just trying to please his father albeit in Heaven. I hope he gets treatment and gets well and can live a life in some sort of normal fashion away from the fame whores, whom I believe, have had a huge part in his destruction…..in particular Kim and PMK. Afterthought: Though they (mostly Kim) malign him on the show, you just know they will do it again on a very special episode and they will show him no mercy).

    • Jwoolman says:

Be ready for a barrage of misinformation about diabetes, depression, and weight management. Kim will lead the charge.

  9. Erin says:

Well look at that. Bet Satans Homegirl is thrilled her son is now interesting enough to feature on the show again. Can’t do anything with fat (unless it’s her daughters asses) but a debilitating health crisis? Smile for the cameras Robby boy!

  10. kri says:

He’s the only one I have any sympathy for in that clan. Well, I also feel bad for the little kids, too. I wonder if they keep him in a room and feed him constantly so they can mine the fat for their asses (and brains).

  11. mp says:

He’s clearly under a lot of stress, maybe from his mental health issues, but clearly his family too. I feel so bad for him. Having stress makes my husband’s hair fall out and for me, I sleep poorly and when I don’t sleep my appetite is so off that I lose weight.

Meanwhile, my sister gains weight in times of stress, like Rob, no matter what she eats.

The families I am in are luckily, not as superficial as the Kardashians. That would make everything 1,000 times worse. I actually think he’d be better off far away from everyone he knows, with a really really good therapist.

  12. go girl says:

Stop fat-shaming him! He is curvy and ‘real-sized.’

    • PinkParasole says:

This would be funny if it was……funny. Diabetes is a real illness and newsflash: You can be thin and develop type 2. Troll harder.

      • Ally says:

That said, managing Type 2 takes quite a bit of discipline. Exercise, balanced diet in sensible quantities and insulin (which can put you in a coma or cause organ failure if you take too much).

His physical issues are probably in a vicious cycle with his mental health issues — it’s hard to think straight when your body chemistry’s off like that.

I hope one corrective measure leads to easier improvement in other areas as well. And same to anyone else struggling with multiple issues like that!

  13. KLO says:

I wish Rob all the best. Take care of yourself dude!

  14. Lukie says:

My guess it isn’t just from weight gain. I have a friend that is Type 2 from hard living. He was a drinker/cigarette/pot smoker since before he was of legal age and was diagnosed by 40. He was barely 20 pounds overweight.

Hard living and bad eating will catch up to you, especially if it runs in your family. What you put in your body today will eventually catch up with you later.

    • PinkParasole says:

Yup. I know a female, heavy drinker who developed it. We’ve known each other since college and she never slowed down with that.

  15. word says:

What I’m wondering is HOW did this story get out? I’m guessing PMK had TMZ on speed dial? Does she think Rob wanted the public to know about his personal health issues? Wow…guess this will make it on the next season of their show. I don’t understand this though, didn’t they say Rob was losing weight and doing much better? Were they lying? He lives with Khloe and is never seen out anywhere. Who was purchasing him all the junk food? I wish him well but he needs to see a therapist. He has a lot of issues relating to his lack of success compared to his sisters’ “careers”. He probably feels like he let his father down. It doesn’t help when Kim tells Rob to “go get a real job”. What “real job” does SHE have?

    • Jwoolman says:

He doesn’t call the paparazzi like his sisters do, so a Rob sighting is more difficult. But I think he does go out, there are occasional sightings regardless. Also I’m sure he can have anything he wants delivered from stores and restaurants. Even if the business doesn’t deliver, he can pay a cab driver to pick up an order for him. Anybody can do that, but he has the money to do it any time without budget worries.

  16. miac47 says:

A lot of the antidepressant meds and antipsychotic drugs cause serious weight gain and possible diabetes.
My son is on Abilify and has gained a lot of weight. He has to have his blood sugar tested regularly because it can cause high sugars.

  17. kimbers says:

So his bad habits gave him a medical condition that’s prob reversible? What a lazy A. He’s better off on a ranch worki g in the fresh mountains of Montana. Move that butt and lose the weight and get buff all at the same time. Stupid A Family.

    • Kath says:

It’s not just ‘bad habits’ and being ‘lazy’ – the guy clearly has a mental health issue. The weight gain is a symptom – and yes, can exacerbate the problem – but depression causes you to put weight on in the first place. How about some empathy? I despise the Kardashians more than anyone, but I feel for the guy.

  18. LauraH says:

I’m really sorry to say this but this family are so ridiculous that.. I wonder if this is even true. Wasn’t he having to rejoin the show to make money again and they were keen for him to given Scott is off? What a structured story line. He has diabetes. Then gets better. Then accepts his family again and plays nice. And the issue was always that it was his weight and he wasn’t happy before. Hence not joining his sister’s wedding. Nothing to do with the fact that they’re awful awful people and he grew completely sick of all the lies and charades.

  19. Tessa says:

If he’s type 2 then he must have hyper osmolar NON ketotic state not DKA

    Just saying

    • Jwoolman says:

Maybe Kim loaned Demon Mother her assistant who found all those pregnancy complications for her…. If the real diagnosis isn’t quite dramatic enough, keep googling for one that will better boost ratings.

  20. pinetree13 says:

Meh, he’s always come across as misogynistic and unkind in general whenever he opened his mouth. So I don’t feel THAT sorry for him. I mean, I don’t think he deserves illness of course but I don’t like how everyone acts like he’s so much better than his sisters. He’s not. He’s a self-absorbed anti-intellectual just like the rest of them. He just gets less fame/money so aw poor him. He’s still way richer than I’ll ever be.

  21. meanusdevilo says:

I can see Kris releasing the info because the show makes him out to be mental or lazy. This way he’s actually sick. I do think it’s odd he lives with his sister, still. I don’t think he’s gonna make it.

    • Jwoolman says:

If he has depression, he shouldn’t live alone. He should live with someone who knows about the disease, which is potentially fatal (high suicide rate). During an episode, my family member with it would bunk in with our aunt and uncle until the acute phase was definitely over on the advice of his doctor (takes time to adjust doses and also for new meds to kick in).

And yes, meds certainly can make it very easy to gain and hold weight even on a very healthy diet. It isn’t always just about calories in/calories out – certain meds (especially for depression) alter body chemistry and that affects metabolism and fat storage. Although extra weight seems to be a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes and typically getting the weight down can reduce or eliminate need for meds, it’s not an absolutely clear correlation. May be some chicken and the egg thing going on: the untreated diabetes might come first, leading to weight gain, which then exacerbates the diabetes because extra fat also changes body chemistry… Maintaining a normal weight is not absolute protection against developing Type 2 diabetes.

  22. Caz says:

The family saying he has diabetes is more PR friendly than saying he has drug/alcohol problems. It’s ok for Scott & Lamar to have these issues but not one of their own.
