I’ll be the one to ask the uncomfortable question: is Jessica Chastain pregnant? Or is this just a really unflattering satin dress? These are photos from last night’s National Board of Review Awards in NYC. The NBRAs are arguably one of the most prestigious critics’ awards shows. Chastain was there to support Matt Damon and The Martian, and she wore this Carl Kapp satin gown. First of all, I do love the color, as I always have great affection for a redhead in emerald green. But the satin! And the cut! She’s either knocked up or she should never wear satin again (or both).
Kristen Stewart was there, of course, because she was actually one of the big winners, taking home the Best Supporting Actress Award whoops, she didn’t win at this show (but she has won three major critics’ awards, just not this one). I really, really want her to get nominated for an Oscar. I think it would be good for her and great for us. She wore this little Chanel dress which I’m ambivalent about. Surprisingly, I’m in love with her two-tone Chanel mules though.
Here’s Emily Blunt in Elie Saab – I think I actually love the dress, just not for this event? Like, this would be perfect for a spring/summer fundraiser or screening in LA, not an awards show in the dead of winter. I also think her styling is too severe – she should have worn her hair down.
Brie Larson in Giambattista Valli. Um… yeah. I keep trying to prepare you guys for this, she’s really not a Fashion Girl. This dress is absolutely hideous.
Samuel L. Jackson & Jennifer Jason Leigh were there. If you were wondering, “Hey, is JJL morphing into Jessica Lange?” you might be on the right track.
Bonus hot guys: Nicholas Hoult and Cary Fukunaga were there, looking fine as hell.

She typically does have taste. This was a misstep, but she usually looks fine. Satin is incredibly unforgiving.
Wow,that’s awful. Really, really awful. Look what it’s doing to her breasts – it looks like a satin pillowcase with a lumpy pillow inside. Satin should be illegal. I am going to write my congressman and enclose this picture as evidence.

I think the dress is really unflattering for Jessica. Girl has hips, that dress is doing her no favors! As for KStews mules, I have to respectfully disagree with you Kaiser – her stylist can do so much better
She is such a beautiful woman and this dress sucks on her! I really don’t see how it wouldbe flattering on anyone though? Also, I saw Jennifer Jason Lee on Live! the other day and kept thinking “what the hell is up with her face?” Her expression looks like she is permanently staring into the sun while trying to copy one of the Olsens’ signature fish gape mouth poses.
IDK, I think someone like Karlie Kloss could wear the dress pretty effortlessly. Since Chastain has been hanging around Derek Blahsberg so much, I hope he isn’t pushing KK’s rejects onto her.
I still have no idea who Cary Fukunaga is, but I think I’d like to learn. *fans self*

Am I the only one who thinks Jessica Chastain is kind of bland and a bit annoying? I’ve watched only 2 or 3 movies with her and she has yet to impress me.
She’s pretty, but her style choices aren’t. The colour suits her, as you know, emerald green suits redheads.
She’s a fantastic actress imo. However she looks a lot older than what she says she is.

She doesn’t have much in the way of onscreen charisma. Her acting never seems natural to me, it’s always very self-conscious and forced. You can tell that she really desperately wants to be a big movie star and that’s what makes me, IDK, dislike her a little. She’s pressing too much.
Dress doesn’t fit. That color should be glorious on her but that dress does not fit.

It’s terrible. If I didn’t see her face, I’d think it was Julianne Moore in one of her usual green train wrecks. It’s something that someone would make on Project Runway for a Wicked inspired challenge and then get sent home for.

Jessica’s dress is so poorly tailored; whoever did it should be ashamed of themselves. I think if the sleeves matched and upper sides brought in more it might work. I like the color. The men’s suits look better fitted for them.
I almost mixed up Jennifer Jason Leigh with Stevie Nicks. The others except Brie (WTH was that?) look ok.

Satin only looks good on the tall, walking hangers that do runway shows – everyone else, not so much.
Jessica is very short, and very curvy, which makes it so very hard to wear high fashion. I think that’s why so often her red carpet looks are iffy. For the big events (premieres, Oscars, Globes) she usually kills it because those gowns get custom-tailored to her body. For events like this, she and her stylist probably have to go with what’s available, which is never going to fit quite right.
Emily Blunt looks worse here imo. btw – I finally saw Sicario last night and I give it a thumb-up. Very intense.

I love Jessica Chastain but this dress is the worst! The colour is lovely on her but everything else is a distaster. KS looks cute, I don’t think she’s a Chanel-type but she looks nice and fresh here and the mules are adorable. JJL looks like she’s done something to her face and it’s not good. What’s with the weird, Madonna-like gloves? Brie Larson is a lovely girl, really, but this dress is terrible. She was wearing a very flattering one for the Palm Springs festival a few days ago, lovely cut and colour but this is a hot mess. Emily Blunt’s dress makes her look thick in the middle and she’s definitely not. Not a great choice for winter, I agree, though the colour is pretty on her.
The boys look dreamy.. really. Nicholas’ eyes are so blue, he gets better looking every year. Cary F. looks good enough to eat.
This is one of those situations where I literally give zero f**ks about what she’s wearing because she’s a more talented actress than 99% of Hollywood.

I don’t think Chastain is pregnant. I am of the opinion that those who wear satin gowns should be very tall and very slim, so that the fabric drapes. JC is short and this dress makes her look lumpy. It was a bad choice.
