Jennifer Lopez maintains her looks with ‘mandatory’ eight hours of sleep a night

JLo Us Weekly

If you’re wondering why Jennifer Lopez is suddenly everywhere this week, Corey had your answer in an earlier post – Jennifer’s new show Shades of Blue was out this week, plus she’s got a Las Vegas residency, plus about a million other things. So, obviously, when J.Lo’s publicist calls Us Weekly and asks them to give J.Lo the cover, Us Weekly is going to do it. They even used a booty shot! Anyway, I wouldn’t normally care, but Jennifer is talking about how she maintains her youthful, glowing appearance at the age of 46. And it involves lots of sleep.

What she avoids: “I don’t drink or smoke or have caffeine. That really wrecks your skin as you get older.”

What she loves: “We eat a lot of green vegetables, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, broccoli and kale… I love to cook, I cook a lot of stuff, I love cooking Puerto Rican food because that’s what I grew up on.”

She has personal trainers on both coasts: “When I am in New York I work out with David Kirsch – he’s an amazing trainer. When I’m in LA, I work with Tracy Anderson. I like the balance that they both give me. They have two totally different approaches. I like switching it up with my body.”

Skincare: “I am rarely in the sun, but if I am, I wear a lot of sunscreen. I’ve never been one to take a lot of sun, which is why my skin has maintained itself.”

Sleep: “I love a good nine or 10 hours, but I can never get that. So seven or eight is mandatory. If I don’t get it I just don’t feel right. I start feeling crazy, I get emotional and I feel tired all the time.”

[From The Daily Mail]

Ever since I covered a Heather Graham interview back in 2011, I’ve been sort of obsessed with how much sleep celebrities get. Heather claimed that she regularly gets 11 or 12 hours of sleep a night. Which is mind-boggling. It’s also mind-boggling that someone as busy as Jennifer Lopez – and yes, she is REALLY busy – consistently gets eight hours of sleep a night and she still manages to do everything she needs to do.

As I get older, I find myself waking up earlier and earlier, partly because that’s what my internal clock is doing naturally, and partly because I’ve learned that I am genuinely a morning person and I get a ton of sh-t done when I’m up at 6 am or earlier. So, is Jennifer sleeping in all the time? Or does she go to bed early? Also: the fact that she doesn’t drink probably helps a lot. When I stopped drinking, it took a while for my sleep patterns to adjust, but now that I’m off the sauce, my sleep feels more substantial and I wake up feeling rested, even if I just got six hours.

Say what you will about Jennifer Lopez but the woman has discipline when it comes to working out and looking after her body. Wish I had that type of discipline (and money for a trainer)

    • Miss Grace Jones says:

Me too. The only time I really work out is if I’m part of a team or a class. Ever since this semester ended I haven’t worked out a bit and am going back to my noodle arms and my little abs have gone back to skinny-fat lol

    • Naya says:

But then you probably have a discernible talent and your entire worth (financial and emotional) doesnt derive from looking and dressing like you did 20 years ago. (Kardashians, this is your future)

      • Kae says:

Yeah because jlos claim to fame is a sex tape *eye roll *

      • Miss Grace Jones says:

I mean J. Lo is a singer, dancer, and actor so it’s not like she’s not doing anything. And if she has a great body and looks great in clothes that are twenty years younger why the hell not show it off? I love that kinda confidence in a woman and I’m not going to act like going to school to get a degree makes me smartee or more talented than someone in entertainment (I mean it’s a film degree but still)

      • Naya says:

Her claim to fame is her booty. No singing or acting talent whatsoever. Minimally talented as a dancer, nothing we havent seen before. Very Kardashianesque.

Jlo HAS to look like this, she has nothing else to fall back on.

      • yolo says:

Naya is totally right! I’ve danced all my adolescent and teenage life and her efforts are laughable. Very cheerleader and novice at best. She does have an amazing body but dresses that amazing body in total crap. Her standard open mouth duck face pose makes me laugh out loud every time. And Casper…eeewwww…

    • tracking says:

She does have discipline regarding diet and exercise, for sure. But she sees a good derm as well, no question. I love how subtle her work is compared to some of her peers.

      • Sabrine says:

It’s mostly avoidance of the sun that gives you younger looking skin. I always wear a wide brimmed hat and sunscreen on the face, neck and hands if I’m going to be out in the sun for more than a few minutes a day. My dermatologist says I have skin 10 years younger than my age.

      • extracookie says:

Absolutely. She can afford the expensive facials and moisturizers. And she sees the right specialists who can tell her what is exactly right for her skin. That makes a big difference as well. It’s not just sleep and conscious eating.

  2. Snowflake says:

I wish celebrities would be honest. I get 8 hours of sleep a night, it doesn’t make me look younger. Yes more rested but cmon, she has injections, etc. It’s not sleep. I think a lot of people would be interested in knowing what their dermatologist does to maintain their looks. People aren’t that naive as to buy the natural b.s. why is it so hard to admit what they really do? Unless you look like a real housewives, I’m not gonna judge. You can get good work done and look natural. Like jlo. Stop lying and be real!

I’m 39, wear sunscreen religiously and I look older than her. Cut the b.s. please.

    • Miss Grace Jones says:

People age differently so I don’t know why you decided to use yourself as an example of why she has to be doing surgery. Idk maybe it’s because I’m around plenty of women who have aged really well without surgery or who are able to work out and maintain their shape aa they get older so I’m not super quick to jump on the plastic surgery bandwagon just because someone appears to be aging well.

      • Josephine says:

Genes have so much to do with it, and I think people with naturally oilier skin age so much better. That being said, her look is a huge part of her livelihood and I think there is no way that she hasn’t had injections and the like. I think she works her butt off, but I think she also has subtle work done. She’s a hustler, and I like that, but I do wish that celebs would own up to just what it takes to look like they do.

      • Carol says:

Yeah, me too @Grace. Some women I know are really disciplined and take care of themselves (eat right, exercise etc). They don’t look 20 but they look very good for their 40+ years. And I do see significant difference on my skin when I don’t get enough sleep. Plus, I turn into a crazy a** b***h!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t know if she has had anything done or not, but I agree with her that as you age, the way you look on a certain day has a lot to do with what you ate and drank the day before and how much sleep you had. I look like dog doo if I didn’t get much sleep or didn’t drink enough water the night before. If I gave up caffeine and alcohol (I don’t smoke) and ate and exercised the way she does every day, I believe I would look younger. Some of it is heredity, too. I am lucky with my skin because both of my parents have nice skin, but it would look better if I were as disciplined as she is.

    • Farhi says:

Consistent sleep depravation does age you. And not being a morning person I can completely relate to what she is saying.

When I was young and poor I had 3 life goals – 1) I will have food 2) I will have shelter 3) I will not wake up earlier than 7AM for a job.
I got one and two by the time I was 25, but #3 turned out to be in direct conflict with the other two. And I am yet to fulfill my life goals. ))

    • Naddie says:

Oh, it’s ok. Discipline is just a detail, her greatest secret is money. Well earned? I think so, she seems like a hard worker, but without it she would look completely different.

      • Charlotte15 says:

@Naddie I couldn’t agree more. It is such a tired argument but it is the truth! And I don’t even mean it just with regard to $$ for cosmetic surgery, etc.

How many of us would eat better and get more sleep if we had full staff/personal chef doing not only all of our time-consuming cooking and food preparation, but all of the grocery shopping and the cleanup as well! Well yeah, that would free up a lot of hours for more sleep 🙄

    • Elisa the I. says:

She might get liquid facelifts with Hyaluron. My skin is still fine, but I would totally do this, if I had the money. The method is injecting Hyaluron down to the bones in the face. I know, it sounds painful, but the woman in the video below says it isn’t and the result looks super-natural.
The video is in German (it’s from a well know plastic surgeon here in Vienna). Go to 5:42 and you can see the difference (only half of her face is treated at that point).

    • blue banana says:

GENETICS and probably has to do with being a minority, as well. Sorry but it’s true. I’m a minority. I’m 43 years old and i routinely get carded for a variety of reason. People mistake my 13 year old daughter for my sister (she has older features, granted). The carnival game person always guesses between 26-30. I drink a LOT of alcohol, i smoked from 16-28, i sleep very LITTLE (from 1a-6a), i eat like crap about 40% of the time, but i do work out and do yoga like a fiend, and drink a lot of water, too. i don’t have any wrinkles or lines, but i would say i’m losing some firmness in skin around the jawline if you look closely.

      • isabelle says:

They’e done twin studies of where one twin drinks excessively versus the other, one likes the sun more than the other, etc…and sure enough the twin not taking care of themselves looks older when compared to the healthier twin. Genetics does have a role but so does taking care of yourself. 40s your skin is probably still OK, especially if its before menopause, but Jennifer is pushing 50 and you can start aging rapidly near that age if you aren’t taking care of yourself. Age, Sun Damage and Alcohol breaks down collagen leading to the sag, wag and wrinkles.

      • blue banana says:

well dang. forgot about menopause. i’ll start getting more sleep pronto.

    • isabelle says:

It doesn’t make me look younger but if I don’t at least get 6-7 hours it makes me look older. My skin looks more shallow, look more tired and puffy face & eyes. Skin just looks a lot more healthy with lots of sleep and swear i have less breakouts as well.

    • Pandy says:

Yes I’m not buying what she’s selling either. I’m sure she works out etc and probably avoids the sun but have you seen her without all that caked on make up and spray tan? She looks as washed out and tired as the rest of us lol. And the longer I look
at her the more convinced I am that her booty is fat injection enhanced. Not to Kartrashian levels but still enhanced.

    • Lukie says:

      I sleep 8 – 9 hours regularly.
I am 43 and also drink a crap load of water and lather myself in shea butter and coconut oil.
Her and I look the same age. I am not just saying that. I regularly pass for slightly under 30 on a good day and 33 during nursing school semesters (4-6 hours of sleep if I am lucky), so she isn’t full of you know what.

It’s also genetic. My mom has been through hell and back and doesn’t look her age. My dad died at 86 with barely any wrinkles. If you ever see JLo’s parents, they still look great too…some people just are lucky like that. #GodBlessGenetics

    • ISO says:

Right? With that recent leak about Peyton Manning’s wife using-human growth hormones- to look younger? She’s not on the celeb level of JLO, yet she’s a walking science fiction movie. Just imagine the technology for these wealthy A list people- it’s not sunscreen/sleep/veggies, but rather an exclusive cocktail of technology that us peasants can’t begin to imagine.

    • yolo says:

Don’t feel bad Snowflake, have you seen pics of her without make up on??? And then there’s always THIS…

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3080915/Jennifer-Lopez-gets-wicked-lacy-black-gown-Keith-Urban-s-love-Nicole-Kidman-brings-wild-leopard-print-American-Idol-grand-finale.html

      Photoshop is her friend.

  3. D says:

I’m so envious of people who can sleep for 10-12 hours, I get about 4-5 hours of sleep a night(insomnia sucks).

    • Jenna says:

Right there with you – it’s a good night if I manage to get 4-5 hours (and that’s with a handful of OTC sleeping pills/supplements/herbs for sleep AND no caffeine after 8pm!) Unless I’m sick as a dog, sleeping anymore then that just never happens. Even tried prescriptions and no joy — don’t suppose you have any suggestions for a fellow insomniac? I have to rotate the stuff I take all the time or build up a massive tolerance and unless I figure out a new mix, it’s back to the merry-go-round as it’s time to change things up again.

      • D says:

I’m afraid that I’ve got no suggestions:( , I feel like I’ve tried everything and anything (sleeping pills, herbal teas etc.). One doctor actually gave me the advice -“just make sleep your priority” I was like… ‘Why didn’t I think of that? Make sleep my priority…wow you cured me,so helpful” lol

      • Honeybee Blues says:

You might want to try no caffeine after 2:00 p.m. Unless your normal bedtime is around 3 a.m., 8:00 p.m. is far too late for caffeine for most people. Also, try a mix of 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of honey, take by the spoon full or mix with herbal tea or water hot enough to melt the honey, about 1/2 hour before bedtime. It’s an ancient remedy, and many of my sleepless friends have enjoyed positive results. Good luck!

      • Shambles says:

Don’t think I’m crazy for suggesting this, but have you ever tried cannabis? I know there are legal restrictions in many places, and this is just what works for me. But I notice a very real difference on nights that I don’t smoke vs. nights that I do. I’m the type that has always woken up throughout the night, and sometimes there are good long chunks of time that I just can’t fall back to sleep. But when I smoke, I’m out like a baby angel until the morning. I also practice yoga and I find that it can be extreeeemely relaxing before bed. I hope you find something that works for you, good luck!

      • Farhi says:

Meditation and yoga might help. Many people can’t fall asleep because their mind just keeps going.
Also, working out in general helps with sleep issues.

      • Belle Epoch says:

Another dumb tip but it helps me a lot: a good sleep mask. I don’t want to sleep in a tomb with the windows covered and the clock turned around. A mask makes sure no light gets into your eyes, which really helps with the melatonin, and you can whip it off in an instant if you want to see what’s going on.

      • Jenna says:

Thanks all – going to actually go through the list over the next month and try (in some cases, retry – but hell. Just because it didn’t fix the issue the last couple of tries doesn’t mean it is hopefully, right?) all those that I can. I already sleep with earplugs (I’m a light sleeper and my husband and cat snore in concert with each other!), so a mask isn’t that far of a step beyond normal, so I’m heading up to my studio to knock up a couple in flannel and silk next. Working out is getting me healthier, but hasn’t touched the sleep, but maybe yoga and meditation will do something. The caffeine will be harder as its not just in the stuff I drink, but in a lot of the meds I take for migraines but we’ll see. As for weed… while it’s not yet legal here in OH, I’ve been told in the past I could qualify for a prescription – but I’m actually allergic to the stuff! (Of all the stupid things to be allergic to…) but D?

How did you manage to resist smacking the doctor who made such a stupid comment to you? I likely would have smacked them… and them shrugged, blaming it on sleep deprivation. It’s that mentality that is just so crazy making. “Make it a priority?” Was there a wand and some magic beans to go with that stellar advice? I hope you found yourself a new doctor after that occurred.

      • D says:

@Jenna I was so surprised to hear something like that from a doctor, that I couldn’t think of anything to say (although I did come up with a few choice words…after I had left…typical haha) I never went back. I will try some of the suggestions here too, why not:) So a thanks to all from me as well.

    • Farhi says:

I am envious of people who don’t need more then 4-5 hours. I need 9 hours, but I only get 5-6 hours during work week and I am miserable.

    • mp says:

When I lived in NYC amongst the Investment bankers, they were lucky to get 6 hours a night. But on the weekends they would sleep like 18 hours straight.

For insomnia, I actually found that eating more during the day helped my body know when it needed to be awake, if that makes any sense, AT LEAST 2000 calories, if not more (I do a couple miles of walking and stairs just to get around). My body was waking me up to tell me it was hungry. But also, if you have any stress (who doesn’t?) therapy is a good way to see if that’s affecting your sleep.

      Good luck!

  4. Jane says:

I’m sure they left out the fact she doesn’t have to stress over things us regular people have to deal with such as: clean her own house, stress over when to make the next mortgage payment, deal with bad traffic, retirement issues, health insurance issues etc. They also neglect to say she probably has a huge team of personal assistants to do almost everything for her and “worry” about things for her so she doesn’t stress out. Then let’s throw in continuous trips to the plastic surgeon or dermatologist to keep her looking as perfect as she can.

Yes, she looks great, but she doesn’t live a life like a normal person. I would love to see all her assistants go away for a couple months and she has to do literally EVERYTHING herself . Then stop going to the doctor for treatments. I’m sure the dark circles and wrinkles will start kicking in. And for that 8-9 hours of sleep? Hey, if she can still get that …great. (Cue sarcasm)

    • Neelyo says:

That makes me think of a joke Howard Stern made. If you want to do a Celebrity Fear Factor, let them loose in a grocery store with a list and make them shop for themselves.

An army of stylists, makeup artists, trainers and assistants help out just a little bit.

      • Jane says:

        Agreed. 1000%!

However, the ultimate Celebrity Fear Factor for me is to take a celebrity and put him or her into my classroom in one of the roughest school districts outside of Chicago for 2 months. They’d be curled up in a ball whimpering after just one day. Try my stress and see what you’d look like without all the assistants and make-up gurus etc. to help out. When we teachers look like death warmed over it’s because we work our tails off (even during the night) to get things done for the next day. I have gone without sleep just to make sure I satisfy 2 psychotic administrators because they LOVE to drop bombs on us at the last minute to scramble.

While I wouldn’t want to trade places with JLo, I know she couldn’t handle the cr** I deal with every day with police at the school, lockdowns, psycho-unreasonable parents harassing me (and other teachers), drug busts and threats of suicide. Sorry, I am not going to feel sorry for JLo. I look like death and older than my 51 years. That’s because I earned every bloody wrinkle, dark circle and gray hair. There’s not enough time for me to get pampered and I sure as hell do not make enough money to get treatments like she does.

Sorry for the rant. Something in this article just set me off.

I’m going to put myself in time out for now. LOL

      • Butch says:

@Jane. Thank you to you, and all the middle and high school teachers, for your commitment to teaching today’s youth (and putting up with a lot of cr**) and essentially preparing our future leaders, builders, doctors and CEO’s. Jennifer Lopez, not so much. Can’t judge her for looking good on camera. She’s only an entertainer …they all do something to their faces keep the brand going. I’m sure we could all look as good as Ms Lopez if we had real disposable income. So lets celebrate all the resident teachers on this board and let them know they’re the real stars.

    • Nola says:

You’re right she doesn’t have regular people problems but I’m sure the problems she deals with can be as stressful, if not more.
I’m stressing trying to figure out how to pay off my student loan but I’d also stress about my next movie making back its $20 million dollar budget or if my new show will get a full season run bc my star value is supporting the show and if tanks everyone’s out of a job for the season.

A few years back Raven S. Talked about how stressful it was to be the star of That’s so Raven on Disney. She said that if she was acting out ( like Lindsay Lohan) the show would be shut down and she couldn’t deal with being the reason why all the crew and actors didn’t have a job.

Celebs are different than us in a lot of ways but they do have stressors.

    • Farhi says:

To be fair she has plenty of things to stress about. They are just different.
She does have help, but keeping track of what different people are doing and that they are doing it properly and on time also takes effort.

      • lucy2 says:

Agreed – she has plenty of stuff to stress over, all the different jobs she has, her companies, her kids, etc. As you said, it’s just different stuff.

Whatever she’s doing, she does look amazing.

  5. BendyWindy says:

I feel my best with 9-10 hours. I’m lucky to get seven. Ugh. I always wonder how people are getting so much done in so little time. I’m obviously inefficient at life.

  6. meg says:

so she’s admitting she has a night nurse then? are people remembering she has two kids? and lives with her sister and her kids too?

    • Farhi says:

No shame in it, if she can afford it. Don’t be ashamed to ask for help and get help, if you need it. It will make you and everyone else around you happier.

  7. Spikey says:

Apart from injectables and such – she’s right. I mean, if one has the genes for it. Today I hAd to renew my passport and had pictures taken. The last time was fifteen years ago. Since then I’ve developed chronic migraines and had to adjust my whole lifestyle. I sleep eight hours, eat very healthy and do a lot of sports. Amazingly, I look much, much better with 40 than with 25. however I hAve friends who can do all they want, their skin just wants to troll them.

  8. Nancy says:

If I slept ten hours (who has the time) I would have huge bags under my eyes and feel like I have a hangover. I feel best at seven. Her diet and exercise regimen help obviously….but she’s aging like Benjamin Button. She’s always been attractive, but is fooling no one if she denies she’s had a nip and tuck on her face. All faces age Jennifer, keep it real.

  9. Maria T. says:

Eh, she’s full of it. I would guess she has good genetics, aided by incredible discipline and the money to pay for personal chefs, trainers, and skin docs. I think she does smoke though – wasn’t there a video with her and Leah Remini where she was smoking? And if she doesn’t drink, what’s her excuse for Casper Smart?

  10. Karen says:

Her body is work! No doubt hard work.

But her face, might be genetic/no-sun to start with she’s tweaked her face a lot since she came into the scene. Good work though. All barely there changes. Minor tweaks to the nose, and teensy fillers.

  11. Jayna says:

My sister-in-law is Puerto Rican and in her mid 40s. She isn’t as beautiful as Jennifer but still very pretty, but she never ages. Her skin is amazing. She has stunning, really thick dark hair, better than Jennifer’s because she doesn’t need pieces in. I can walk into their house and she’s there with no makeup on, and she looks years younger and no looseness in her jawline that is noticeable, and no need for filler or botox.

  12. vauvert says:

Yes Jennifer, that’s what it is. 8 hours of sleep a night.
Look, sleep is very important, no doubt. But there is a lot more there and a huge component is the time and money to get things like nutrition (hello private chef, like hell she is cooking her own kale), working out (hello private trainers), excellent dermatological care (hello surgeons, facials, lotions and potions). When you have staff taking care of all the other normal things us regulars have to do for ourselves, that leaves you the time to work on yourself, which she obviously has. Of course she works hard and has the discipline to stay the course, I am sure she puts a lot of time into looking like this – including the sleep. But there is a lot more to it, and it annoys me no end when celebs state stupid things like “I look fabulous because I drink a lot of water” or “I sleep 8 hours a night and no caffeine” or whatever.

  13. me says:

Well, I don’t find it odd she manages to get 8 hours of sleep a night. Her kids probably are in bed pretty early. It’s not like she has to clean or do laundry or anything.

  14. TOPgirl says:

I admire her for working hard on her body and looks. But anything else?????

  15. word says:

I do agree that she can sleep 8 hours a night because she has a team of people helping her with everything. Has she always had it easy though? She didn’t become famous until her mid to late 20’s. Before that she was struggling. She dropped out of college, her mom told her she had to leave home if she wasn’t going to continue her education. Jennifer I believe lived with friends and hustled with her dancing career for quite a while before In Living Color came along. I give her props. She came from nothing, Zero Hollywood contacts, no easy way in, she earned her place. Now a days it’s all about who your mom or dad is. Is she the best actress? No…but she’s not the worst I’ve seen either. I loved her in Selena. I watched her new show last night “Shades of Blue” and her acting was good. Have to say her face looked different, she looked older…perhaps for the role of playing a corrupt cop? I don’t know.

  16. Susan says:

Reasons I do appreciate Jlo, even if she isnt my favorite star out there:
    1. She’s not 25 and still getting mag covers and working consistently.
    2. She’s not a reality tv whore, yes she is on AI but she got her start as a working dancer/actor
    3. She’s a hustler. I have heard a lot said about her but one thing consistent is her work ethic.
    4. She’s a minority. She rose to fame in the skinny white girl heroin chic days. It could not have been easy.
    5. She makes bad decisions about men but she does seem to go with her heart (no showmances with closeted actors or PR driven relationships) and while I think she seeks herself short in that department, it endears her to me.

    (Ducking for cover!)

    • NeNe says:

As far as I’m concerned…. she’s where she is right now because of P. Diddy! I don’t believe she could have gotten where she is all on her own merits. Sorry, that’s just my opinion.

  17. TeresaMaria says:

Giving up alcohol has improved my sleep tremendously. It took a while to adjust, but I have to agree with Kaiser – I feel ok even if I get only 5-6 hours at night. I do try to sleep more and there are studies claiming the hours before midnight are most valuable (sleep wise)

  18. Sarah01 says:

I wonder how she comes up with these facial expressions to appear sexy or alluring., but seem to look out of place and odd. She’s a very average looking woman whose maximised ( including surgery) everything. Her hustling can compete with Kris.

    • word says:

Wow where do you live where someone like Jennifer Lopez is considered “average looking”. Must be one good looking town !

  19. chaine says:

I think one of her secrets is lots of Photoshop.

  20. hey-ya says:

…except that when you really are young you survive on 2 hours sleep at least twice a week…poor j…nothing can be done against the march of time…she’ll look good when she pops her clogs…big deal…personally I adore the “100 year old crone from the steppes look”…mwah mwah to u…

She probably is seeing a really great dermatologist, however the benefits of avoiding booze cigs sun and processed foods will,do wonders to fight the onset of aging and it’s progression. She is one of the ones that I actually don’t think has had much done in terms of plastic surgery or injectables.

Can’t believe I’m writing a pro J Lo post because I don’t think much of here singing per se.However as an entertainer with the ability to remarket herself and someone who looks great and not plastic surgeried within an inch of her life in an industry not known to be kind to the “aging woman” I admire her. When I was in LA I saw her at a restaurant coming in for what looked like a business meeting when I was walking out. I was a few inches away and looked up and saw that face just inches away. Like many celebs she looked smaller and more petite in person but her face was gorgeous and in normal not performance makeup. Nearly took my breath away.

Kaiser I became obssessed with celebrities sleep patterns since that Heather Graham article you covered too! I sleep much better without alcohol involved. I rarely drink anymore either. I take pride in looking 5+ years younger than my age. Sleep is definitely crucial in achieving that. I also eat kale a lot too. It’s delicious and super cheap here in NYC (possibly everywhere).

Actually she has alot of stresses – especially when she performs for dictators and human rights violators for $1-2million dollars a pop. She also looks quite a bit different from her In Living Color days – just google it. Naturally aging? I don’t think so.

It’s crazy how people are so sleep deprived in our day and age. One of my top priorities too. I get at least 8 every night. And going to bed later and sleeping in doesn’t seem to do it for me. I have to go to bed fairly early, before 11 PM every night to get the benefits.

It genuinely annoys me when interviewers ask people — be it celebrities or 105 -year-old women from Chinese villages— what’s keeping them young. I mean, saying “I wear sun screen and don’t smoke tobacco, so that helps” is a pretty safe bet. That’s just science. But abstaining from all caffeine, drinking red wine every day, eating a lot of spinach and dark chocolate or “being positive” or any the other self-made answers you get when you ask, well … how do they know that’s what’s helping? That’s what you’re DOING, and you’re doing it in the hopes that it will keep you young, but that doesn’t mean it has any impact at all on your looks. It’s the logic of “I drink Pepsi to avoid cancer, and so far I have no cancer, so I can only recommend the practice to everyone.”

It’s stupid at best, harmful at worst.

    Melanin. It works wonders.

I work full time on a job where I’m on my feet. I have 2 young kids. I cook dinner and clean house. And I sleep about 8-9 hours a night. I have to, to keep up with my life.

She just tries to damn hard. To me, she’s like a cheap trick!
