Angelina Jolie: My kids are ‘kind of shy & they don’t really want to be actors’

As far as Hollywood nepotism goes, I kind of think Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are doing it the right way. They include their kids in their films, but the roles are usually blink-and-you’ll miss them. The notable exception was probably Vivienne playing the young Aurora in Maleficent, but Angelina explained that situation well, basically saying that all of the toddlers they auditioned were terrified of Angelina with her horns, and Vivienne was the only one who just saw her mama.

Anyway, some of the Jolie-Pitt kids got hired for another one of their parents’ films: Kung Fu Panda 3! Knox, Shiloh, Zahara and Pax got do voices/sound effects for baby pandas in the movie. Angelina told Entertainment Tonight: “They were kind of shy and they don’t really want to be actors but I don’t want them to miss the opportunity and they came in and they had a lot of fun with it.” Ah, so the kids don’t want to be actors? That’s good. I kind of believe that. I do think that with two actor parents, chances are that at least one of the kids will want to be an actor. Who do you think? I think it will probably be Vivienne.

Angelina also talks about the story of the film, where Jack Black’s Po panda meets his birth father. She tells ET, “I thought it handled it well because it didn’t brush over it, it’s a central part of the story, him trying to understand how to have two dads. It shows that it’s complicated and it’s not easy and it’s not over in a happy second.” I think Angelina only signed on to Kung Fu Panda because she liked the themes of adoption and families and all of that.

I think Angelina & Brad are doing a wonderful job in raising their rainbow family.

They give them the opportunities to figure out if they want to enter Hollywood and most likely only one of two will. My bet is on Know – he is a little charmer who doesn’t mind the cameras.

Angelina is very articulate and I loved the way she explained the theme of Kung Fu Panda.

Kung Fu Panda is brilliant and I cannot wait for the latest one.

    • harlequin says:

Agree with everything you said. Knox is super cute and chill, always with a ready smile and even a wave for the cameras.

      • MrsBPitt says:

Yes, I think, if any of the kids goes into show biz, it will be Knox! He has always seemed so at ease with the crowds and the press…and he is going to be a heart breaker when he gets older. And, in the looks dept., I think he got the best of both his parents! Although, all six of the kids are cuties!!!!!

  2. Rosalee says:

It was touchingly sweet when Vivienne reached up and grabbed her mother’s horns. Angelina seems to involve her children in more than behind the scenes in her work in film, they seem to have a firm grasp on her humanitarian work. Lovely family.

  3. Ennie says:

    Love her.

I guess there will be a ton of comments again about how the Jolie-Pitt kids stole a big break from other actors. They only do tiny things, non-speaking parts and faces in a crowd. The kids are young so it’s hard to judge if they want to be actors. Odds are one will go into the entertainment field, not necessarily acting.

    • Gina says:

Um, it actually looks like there won’t be a ton of comments at all.

    • lore says:

Even if you get a small part in a film through your parents its till nepotism. Funny, I bet you probably trashed the Smiths and the Kardashians for letting their kids get ahead but you are okay with the Jolie-Pitt children getting a taste of nepotism as well? They are not working hard for it either. Its not being hateful or jealous if you point this out.
Yeah Jolie can say what she likes but its pretty obvious she is gearing her kids up for Hollywood careers. They don’t seem like they got to school either. They are really not well prepared for university.

      • Colette says:

Nepotism is fantastic,it’s how I got my first job.
As for the Jolie Pitt kids ,they are all multilingual .According to Brad they are all fluent in France. They are homeschooled by multilingual teachers so if they want to attend college they will be well prepared.
        Stay Pressed,Boo

      • MildredFierce says:

Fluent in France? And praising home school. Aye, aye, aye. I went to an Ivy League school; not many home schoolers. Prep schoolers, yes. Public schoolers, yes.
In fact, I never met one home schooled person in undergrad or grad school.
Home schooling is tedious and needs to rigorous to be competitive with top notch private and even public schools.
Also, home schooling in the USA is regulated state by state? So which state are Pitts held accountable to….California? I know California the GED is equivalent to an average 8th grade education. So their mother possesses a 8th level of education and no formal higher education. For the the children’s sake, I hope they do go into acting because more than likely they will not possess the foundation for higher education.

      • Jwoolman says:

Mildred- are you sure you never met anybody homeschooled in undergrad and grad school? I’ve been through both and can’t even think of a single time anyone was ever asked where they went to grade school or even high school. The answers would have been meaningless to anybody not living in the same town. So you could very well have known people who were homeschooled but it just never came up in conversation. Certainly they are there- I know of people homeschooling who have definitely sent their kids off to college. Often they homeschool only in the early years and move into a regular school later or for high school or for certain courses/activities. The public school system has a program integrating home study via computer with online teachers for kids who have various reasons for not doing well in a regular classroom or who are engaged In activities hard to schedule around it. This would include kids who travel with their parents.

I think that in addition to their own tutors, the Jolie-Pitt kids are following an online curriculum set up by some international school system with branches around the world, if I recall correctly. I doubt that they will be unprepared for college and beyond. They’re not Duggars.

Not so long ago, it was quite normal for the children of the rich and upper middle class to be schooled at home by tutors. The idea of gathering large numbers of children in classrooms came later and was primarily for children with fewer resources for a long time. The regular schools are set up for convenience, not because that approach is optimal. Expensive private schools have much smaller classes than our typical public schools. I hated school myself and would have greatly benefitted from the kind of homeschooling available today thanks to the computer. And I still would have ended up with a Ph.D. My grade schools and high schools were more of a impediment to learning than a help, so I was actually mainly self-taught in many ways.

I’m thinking Vivinne and Knox will follow in their parents footstep, who knows.

  6. Naddie says:

I used to doubt, but now I really believe she’s a great mother.
Also, this picture of her with the two girls is amazing. Zahara and Shiloh are two different types of beauty, both gorgeous.

  7. doofus says:

if we’re taking bets on who will be the actor in the family, my money is on Shiloh.

that girl always seems to such a ham in front of the cameras (or, she used to be) and looks like she would be an absolute hoot.

  8. minx says:

They seem like a happy, tight knit family.
That’s all you want as a parent.

    • MrsBPitt says:

Exactly…..nothing made me happier than listening to my two boys playing and laughing together! As a parent, there is no sweeter sound!

  9. Really? says:

Being a mother and going through major life-threatening medical issues have changed Angelina in major positive ways. I did not like her for the longest time because of her man-stealing ways, but I find her much more appealing now and feel like she has matured a made up for her past mistakes. Good for you Angelina! I love what a great mother she has become. I imagine that putting others needs first is hard for most celebrities. Love really is the answer, isn’t it?

    • Colette says:

How exactly do you steal a man?

      • Jib says:

You have sex with him when you are on a set with him and he’s married. 🙂

      • Paige says:

You can’t steal a 42 year old man. Brad chose to be with Angelina.

      • Antonym says:

Really?!? Men don’t have free will? Consequences or accountability? If a man cheats it’s his fault, not the fault of the person he cheated with (likewise if a woman is the one to cheat then she bears the blame). You are responsible for you and your relationships. Enough of blaming the “other woman” for stealing the poor defenseless, blameless man.

  10. Zaid says:

    Happy Birthday, Zahara!

  11. Jib says:

I dont get it. If her kids don’t want to be in movies then why is she always putting them in her movies or dragging them around the love to “Work” on her movies. I don’t bring my kids to school to help me teach.

I don’t think it would be easy to be a child of parents this famous . I know many of you think these kids have it made, but all you need to do is look at how the children of other very famous people turned out and it’s often not very good.

    • Linn says:

Because she doesn’t ” want them to miss the opportunity and they came in and THEY HAD A LOT OF FUN WITH IT.”

It’s in the article, try reading it next time. It’s great to give you children the possibility to try out many things so they can find there own way in life.
My parents never had a lot of money but always made an effort to do so and I’m very grateful for that.

      • Jib says:

They might enjoy going to a normal school and having school friends like normal kids and having the chance to have a semi-normal childhood, rather than be her lackey on set or be in her movies. Do the older ones get a say as to whether they want to go to “regular” high school or a private school, as the Obama daughters do?? I teach high school and by 14, most kids want the regular high school experience. If they don’t allow them to choose that, then they are forcing these kids to be part of a “Hollywood” life and closing other doors for them.

And I’m all for my kids trying out things in life, but it has to be THEIR things, not MY things. At some point, there will be blowback if these kids aren’t being given the chance to choose their own things. And I say that from my knowledge of teenagers, gotten through 25 years of teaching them!

And thanks, I can read. And I did. I just disagreed.

    • lucy2 says:

I think if kids are old enough to understand and have an interest, it’s OK to bring them along sometimes and give them small tasks. If it interferes with schoolwork or other childhood activities, or the parent is doing it for themselves and not because of the kid’s interest, different story.

I wouldn’t want to be the children of people that famous either. Expectations are ridiculous, and they’re famous from the day 1, without the chance to decide if they want it or not. People talk about celebrity kids and form opinions about their personalities (good and bad) without actually knowing them or waiting to see what they actually choose to do someday.

  12. Babycakes says:

I’m glad that none of her kids want to go into acting, at least at this point. They seem to have been given a unique opportunity to see parts of the world that have real conflict and suffering as well as see how other people and agencies are trying to solve or aid people in need. Maybe they’ll want to be part of the solution when they are adults?

  13. kay says:

hey, finally just watched “by the sea”.
i have to say i really liked it. the end was clunky, compared to the rest, but not in a derailing kinda way. the acting was really good, which surprised me, because i didn’t realize either of them were that good.
i need to watch it again because the version i found was sub titled in chinese, and my french comprehension is only tolerable, so i want to catch the finer details in the coversations and characters of the bar owner and the married couple.
but, yeah. i am happily surprised. 🙂

    • Lili says:

I also really liked the movie, I wasn’t bored at all and great to see them both doing something diferent and unusual. I think they have great chemistry and you can see they love each other . Jolie let Brad shine, which I thought was lovely and kind of romantic. I would watch them, together in another movie for sure.

  14. sandy says:

It’s always great to see the jolie/pitt family, I have always respected them individually as well as partners, but I choose to judge people individually on factual information and circumstances, these two were meant to be together, as we all see, I respect how they came together, everyone involved got what they wanted, the other party wanted a career, old news.

  15. danielle says:

Angelina is amazing and her family is lovely.

  16. Lauraq says:

LOL at the Angeloonies who think she’s a saint.
    She’s…a person… she has…. flaws… But whatevs 😉

    • Lance says:

I agree. I don’t care how many kids she adopts, many ppl still see her as a mistress/home wrecker in the Pitt/Aniston split.
