Alicia Vikander in white Louis Vuitton at the Globes: classic or twee?

FFN_KM_GoldenGlobe_Arr_011016_51943607

Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender did not walk the red carpet together. But they did sit together inside the event, and there were several cut-aways to their table, and Alicia and Michael interacting specifically. When Michael’s name was read out for Best Actor (he lost to Leo), you could see Alicia rubbing his back and being supportive. I might have missed it, but did he do the same when her categories came up? Hm.

As for Fassy and Alicia’s coupled-up status, Michael was asked point-blank about his girlfriend, and he told Entertainment Tonight that he’s “very proud” of her. He was asked about their post-Globes plans and he said, “She heads back to Vegas and I head back to London. But hopefully we’ll get a minute together. That would be nice. We’ll have a few drinks and then we’re both out of here early [in the] morning.” So… there you go. He finally talked about her publicly. They’re happening.

As for style, Alicia wore this white Louis Vuitton gown. She’s a brand ambassador for LV, and after spending most of 2015 wearing LV exclusively on the red carpet, she finally started moving away from the brand a little bit and wearing a few other designers. But I bet she’s contractually obligated to wear LV to the big events, like this. I suspect Nicolas Ghesquiere made this especially for her, for her absolutely tiny proportions. She looks every bit the tiny dancer, almost childlike. It’s okay as a style, I guess. It’s not really my taste, but I like that she’s staying true to her own style – she would have looked absurd in a big, frothy gown. It’s better for her to keep it simple. I like that she pulled her hair back, FINALLY, as well.

That neck ruffle though…

I like it. It’s modern and sexy, feminine without too much frills or froofy bits. She’s not on my radar at all but this dress does wonders for her.

    • Greenieweenie says:

+1. I’m getting obsessed with her style.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I love it too. It looked perfect on her. I usually find her style a bit too girly and frilly, but this was great.

      • Calcifer says:

Love this dress on Alicia. I find it very special because it’s clean and simple but interesting at the same time due to the shiny white material and the original design. And it fits her like dream.

    • LadyMTL says:

I like it too, though I wish that it didn’t have that neck ruffle because that makes it look a bit too childish…at least IMHO.

      • Esmom says:

Yes. I have been a big defender of her style but this dress has an oddly juvenile bent to it that disturbs me a little. Like a fancy baby bib.

      • Livvers says:

I agree about the ruffle too, but as I scrolled down the post I saw the dress alone without Alicia’s face, and the pleats made it look very 2016–Katharine Hepburn, and then I thought of that ridiculous silk tulle wedding dress she wears in Philadelphia Story, and that somehow made the whole look (including the neck ruffle) make sense to me. So, I am reconciled.

    • lucy2 says:

      I like it too.

    • Gina says:

I like the dress but agree about the unnecessary neck ruffle. I generally like her relaxed, slightly undone style anyway.

Saw The Danish Girl last week and she was excellent.

    • Snappyfish says:

This might have been my favorite of the night. Too many wore dresses we had seen them in before (Winslet, Rossum) I thought she looked lovely & fresh & let’s face it she had the best accessory at her table

    • Carol says:

I liked it too…. on her. I don’t know if I would have liked it on anyone else but it looks lovely on Alicia.

    • Original T.C. says:

Fresh, delicate and beautiful. Her best look IMO.

    • cd3 says:

I love the dress and the way it’s styled on her. She (her sylist?) has great taste. She’s always in beautiful clothes that fit perfectly and aren’t ostentatious or showy. I feel like the Kate Hudsons and J.Lo’s could take some notes… subtlety is under-rated!

  2. Bom says:

    Totally apron.

    • Dani2 says:

lol I like the look but i definitely see the apron realness

    • ichsi says:

Yep, it’s an apron. She’s SO pretty but childlike is the best way to describe her body in this apron/playsuit mash-up. Girl looks like 15 most of the time already and this only emphasises it, despite the appropriate make-up and hairstyle. It’s not helping the occasional creepy vibes I get from him. Also his shoes look like they have some lift in them. I was confused at first because he almost is the desired 6′ anyway but I guess it’s for the proportions? His legs are quite short compared to his torso and the lifts correct that.

    • Pondering thoughts says:

      Totally apron.
Requires a very flat-chested woman, that dress!

She is only 25[?] and desparately tries to exude the elegance and seriousness of Nicole Kidman. I don’t like her red carpet style. It is too serious-old for her and often too childish in the cutting pattern or in the styling at the same time.

I do like her acting, though, but I think she need to live a bit more and losen up and mature as an actress.

      • Kiki says:

I have been saying that for the past couple months. She needs to lighten up and not take herself too serious. As i really like her dress but i don’t hate it. And this little princess clothes needs to go. I know she is petite, but she could dress regal and still be elegant.

  3. tracking says:

Lovely, elegant. Just this side of twee. Well, gee, we can all accept their coupledom now that HE’s said it.

    • PrincessMe says:

That’s exactly what I thought as well. I don’t know why people thought that she may have been going around claiming a relationship with someone she wasn’t in a relationship with.

      • Goats on the Roof says:

Typical fangirl behavior if you ask me. It’s not real until HE says it. Same with Robert Pattinson, Louis Tomlinson and his baby mama, Benedict Cumberbatch, and the list goes on. Kind of pathetic, really.

      • SugarQuill says:

I know, right? The mental gymnastics of the writers and posters here regarding their relationship status were getting more than a little ridiculous. Case in point:

“When Michael’s name was read out for Best Actor (he lost to Leo), you could see Alicia rubbing his back and being supportive. I might have missed it, but did he do the same when her categories came up? Hm.”

        Ugh.

And for the record, while I do like Alicia a lot, I couldn’t care less about whether or not she’s dating Fassbender. I hate that I even have to clarify that, but the Fassy fangirls’ go-to accusation is always that somebody who doesn’t question this relationship must be stanning them as a couple.

Also, she looked really beautiful last night. Great look.

      • Kiki says:

First thing. I don’t care about them period (ok, maybe I care about Michael) but I thought this was a low key relationship.

And I thought Michael is a standout guy. Remember when he said he loves a Feisty woman. Which part is Alicia Vikander ia feisty or so he says.

And lastly, this “oh so sweet” shick she”s going with is not adding up with me. I still think she is a phoney, stuck up snob.

      • Korra says:

….Jesus Christ you fassdong loonies are certifiably batsh-t crazy. He’s with her she’s with him she wasn’t desperate or pathetic or try hard. They’re together. Lol when they break up you’ll lose your heads and say “See!!! See!! We always knew he didn’t like her! She was just using him!”

        +100000000 @ sugar quill

The mental gymnastics are indeed astounding. Take a long hard look in the mirror fassloonies. Alicia is not looking desperate…..you are.

      • Fluff says:

There are still people insisting it’s fake, though. There are Cumberbatch stans who have basically spent a year insisting that he’s secretly a drug addict and/or a pedophile whose ‘wife’ is blackmailing him into pretending to be married to her and parading a plastic doll around in front of the paparazzi, simply because they can’t handle that their fave is married. The Twihards have spent several years insisting that those two actors are secretly married and have two kids even though they’ve never been seen together and are almost never in the same country.

Hopefully it will tone down some of the whole “omg so thirsty!” casual comments (I hate how men can be as ambitious as they like, but ambition in a woman is “thirst”) but I doubt it will affect the hardcore fans who hate her.

      • Fluff says:

Kiki, I’ve literally never read a word about their relationship outside of CB. Besides why should they be “low key”? Have they ever claimed to be “low key”? It’s deeply peculiar to hide the fact you’re in a relationship, which is what some stans seem to demand.

“Remember when he said he loves a Feisty woman. Which part is Alicia Vikander ia feisty or so he says.”

Oh, come on. You literally know nothing about her personality in real life. Nor what Fassbender likes in women. Some random interview comment is not representative of the real person behind the actor/persona. It’s so odd that in this day and age fans still buy everything the media shovels and believe they truly ‘know’ a celebrity through their PR. Every day people fall for people who aren’t necessarily their ‘type’ and anyway she’s probably plenty feisty.

  4. Dani2 says:

Definitely one of her few stronger looks, she looks really good here.

  5. Don't kill me I'm French says:

    Simple,Pretty ,Lovely dress

  6. minxx says:

I wore aprons like that to kindergarden, seriously. Only shorter 😉 She looks about 12 here.

  7. ell says:

the dress is ok, a bit boring. i don’t get this obsession with alicia looking childlike though, not everyone is curvy. in fact, as a tall slim woman with no curves, i resent that. i’d love to have boobs and a shapely bum, but I just don’t. can we just accept women have different bodies and being slim doesn’t mean you look like a girl??

    • Mereley says:

Totally agree, ELL. Women of all different shapes and sizes should be celebrated!

As for Alicia, this is definitely one of her stronger red carpet looks. I usually don’t get her satorial choices AT ALL, but I like this one. The dress is a bit “twee”, but it suits her because — and I mean this in the nicest way possible — she is a bit “twee”. It’s not just her body type that makes her look girlish, it’s also how she carries herself. There is a delicacy to her, which coupled with great genes, keep her looking like a teenager. More power to her for it, though!

    • Goats on the Roof says:

      +1
I’m a very petite woman with little boobs or ass to speak of. I’d find it downright insulting to be called childlike just because I’m not super busty or hippy.

I really like what Alicia is wearing here. I think she looks absolutely gorgeous and the dress suits her.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I don’t think she’s childlike because of her body – it’s her very youthfull face plus her girly style. Selena Gomez gets called childlike and she has a differetn body type. It’s the face.

      • ell says:

selena gomez is younger and has the same problem as many child actors i.e. you can’t see them as grown ups.

sorry, but i don’t agree it’s the face. i’m sure some people find her face to look younger (i’m a year younger than her and all the 20 somethings i know like more or less like that, and also imo people aren’t used to see actresses wearing so little make up, lots of make up tends to age), but most of the comments on CB are over her body. i’ve been there myself with people (other women, which is worse) telling me i have the body of a 12 year old boy because i’m slim with no boobs. it’s frustrating.

    • Laura says:

It has more to do with her face than her body. She looks 15 all the time.

  8. Khadija says:

This is a well-constructed but boring dress, just like Alicia. Fassy looked good though.

    • KCat says:

I don’t like her but she looks really nice and elegant here.

      • Kiki says:

Now everyone calm the hell down. Before everyone cals me bat-it crazy. I would like to say this. I am juat saying that, I thought Michael Fassbender was a standout guy because he doesn’t care about “celebrity”, but I was wrong. He did stoop this low.

Also, Is it wrong for me not to like his girlfriend because She is full of Sh*t? I am not jealous or sad. Just disappointed that he would join the rest of these arrogant, self-entitled rich people celebs.

      • Fluff says:

You’re pretty obviously obsessed with him, so it’s hard not to assign your hatred of his girlfriend to anything other than envy and resentment because her existence damages your fantasy.

It’s normal for people in relationships to support their significant others. It’s frankly very sad that you believe supporting your partner is “stooping low” and “being an arrogant self-entitled famewhore”?? Seriously, do you not see how bat$hit it comes across to do a 180 from loving someone to making such extreme accusations against them, simply for committing the ‘crime’ of making a single brief acknowledgement that they’re in a relationship?

Do you believe that every single actor or actress who has ever mentioned or publicly supported their spouse or partner even once is “an arrogant entitled famewhore who is stooping low”?

      • Kiki says:

I am going to done this. I am not jealous. I don’t care about his relationship. I don’t like her personality period. I don’t believe she is gracious or sweet. There is nothing wrong with ambition but be grateful for everything you have
She is just privilege and self-entitled. That’s why I think she is full of it.

      • KCat says:

It’s not about jealousy. Fassbender has hardcore fans because he’s one of the best actors of all time. Many of us don’t want to see him get sucked it some tabloid mess. I don’t want his personal life to overshadow his career because he’s that good. He’s almost 40 and I would be happy if he got into something genuine. Some people want to make it about jealousy . Some might be jealous but not all. Don’t forget that Fassbender started out with a hardcore indie fan base before some of y’all knew Magneto. Don’t try it.

  9. littlemissnaughty says:

Love her hair and makeup and the dress is cute too. On a side note, the term “brand ambassador” makes me laugh every time.

  10. Naddie says:

She makes the dress look passable, because honestly it is terrible.
I’m a great fan of her slim, elegant physique, tho.

  11. Chinoiserie says:

Her hair always looks pretty bland and the dress is bland as well.

  12. Mandy says:

I’m probably the only one but I always get her and Lily James confused. She looks pretty but kind of boring.

  13. felixswan2 says:

    Very “apronie.”

  14. CornyBlue says:

The pleating is so pretty. Do not like the top and the hair. Fassy looks ok too.

  15. Kiki says:

I don’t like he dress. I she doing a cookin show ore desperate want to be more famous like she said before. As much as I don’t like the two of them together (which honestly, it is painful to see them together ) I wished Michael Fassbender the best.

    • Nik says:

“It is painful to see them together”

      Stop being so dramatic.

      • Kiki says:

Ok, I am so sorry. What i meant to say is, i wished him the best. I still don’t like her because of her privileged attitude but i hoped for the best for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re engaged now.

      • Gina says:

Maybe if seeing an actor you like with an actress you don’t like causes you pain, then you should avoid posts like this.

Or you could remind yourself that they are both complete strangers and try not get so worked up in the first place.

    • KCat says:

To me, it’s only painful to see Michael playing the Hollywood game. If it was genuine and she was actually likable, I would be happy for him. It’s just so unlike him to stoop to this level. He’s a brilliant actor and I liked him for his authenticity. Not sure about who he really is, but he’s a dn fine actor. They both looked nice. I hope for the best with Michael. I hope the tabloids and such doesn’t overshadow the acting. That was my main concern to begin with because I hold a place in my heart for his acting.

      • Kiki says:

Thank u @KCat. That is all I am saying. I think he ia very fine actor but the reason why it is painful to see because he is stooping this low. I would love to really like her but she is too thirsty and becoming another Anne Hathaway hate and he is in the cross ears. I just wish them all the best and I hope he doesn’t party too hare because she would hate that.

      • KCat says:

@Kiki I was the main dummy telling some of his fans to leave the speculation alone. I was wrong. I never thought he would allow something like this. I thought he was a silent rebel/outsider. The thirst is a complete turn off and they got what they deserve at GG. Yup, Anne Hathaway all over again.

  16. lilacflowers says:

    Simple, elegant, and lovely.

  17. mp says:

I just can’t with AV. Her dress, and even her hair, I feel like she’s an Amish housewife who messed up her dress pattern.

  18. Karen says:

What the photos don’t show is that is all sequined. So while it looked minimal in photos it was super twee in video/person. Sequined ruffled pinstriped apron.

  19. SusanneToo says:

She’s lovely, classy, elegant and talented. I like her look and her work and I think she’ll last. More power to her.

  20. SloaneY says:

The dress isn’t bad, it just seems quite casual for the Golden Globes.

  21. cindyp says:

Don’t like the apron top but it fits beautifully Would have been better in a different color. Does the “no white after Labor Day” rule apply to fashion?

  22. Wentworth Miller says:

    This is my favorite dress

  23. Elle says:

She looked pretty but she also looked high. I’m not sure if she was just tired but I thought she looked lit

  24. AlmondJoy says:

She is just so CUTE. I have to remind myself that she’s a grown woman. I think Alicia permanently looks 14. It’s not a bad thing in my eyes.

  25. T says:

    Beautiful!

  26. FF says:

It’s LV and it looks good. I’m in shock.

Top marks to her she looked lovely.

  27. Sansa says:

I love this dress, it has the high ruffle to accent the back. My wedding dress was basically the front of this dress but the back was as per the front it zipped up. Compared to what Kate Hudson wore she looks like a princess. So it was my favorite look of the event. She looked perfect.

  28. KCat says:

I guess Michael is (sort of) playing this celeb couples thing after all and it’s not one sided. Sorry Alicia. I thought he said he didn’t want to campaign hard because he’s not a politician and he wanted to keep is private life…private. He didn’t even look comfortable most of the night. He’s opened a can of worms and it my overshadow his acting. He should have done a Leo and leave the love/sex life out of the press. Good luck Michael. I still love the acting but he’s not the same Michael from a few years ago.

Alicia looked nice. I actually like the dress.

  29. Eggland's worst says:

    Here’s my two cents worth:
    1. The apron dress is ugly.
    2. NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE on this sight has a dog in the fight of their relationship, no matter where it stands. So can we please give the fighting a rest?
    3. I personally find both of them beyond unlikable. They are two arrogant people with a very strong sense of entitlement. I hope they go overboard with their bull (see Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, who I actually happen to be a fan of) during promotion the Bounty Hunter) and turn everybody off. Better yet, give their Oscars and hope they fade into oblivion. Then again, they will probably never shut up about it. Of course, if they don’t win, the pouting will be heard all the way to Mars. Jim Carrey’s joking self-congratulating speech about having two GGS fine, these two going on about winning Oscars? God help us all.
    4. What was Butler doing at their table last night? If he was in one of their movies, fine. If he is friends with either, DEALBREAKER! I know he was in 300 with Fassbender, but that doesn’t mean they have to pal around.

    • sunglasses aready says:

@Eggland’s worst. Agree with every word you have written. Some people are taking this too seriously, after all this is a gossip site not a war room. Keep in mind that this couple, both played robots and both undertook fully frontal naked roles. This speaks volumes. Have they EVER stated in any of their boring interviews, what they believe in what causes are they backing? Her b/f zig- zags a-cross the world for a couple of award shows, hello carbon foot print, anyone. Did he or she consider the recent flooding in the north of England and the storms in America. So your endless arguments are only making these spineless, arrogant people famous as their PR gather data on internet clicks. Unsavoury.

  30. Moon says:

I love this colour on her, hate the frills.

  31. petitehirondelle says:

Seriously, I have watched and I have liked the face of Alicia, she seems very sweet and in love. And for me, Michael… still a player for me but funny 🙂

  32. Sarah01 says:

Liked the dress, if it was more of a nude colour minus the belt id love it!
I love the fact she doesn’t overdo it, some of the ladies you can actually see the effort that has gone into the makeup, hair, styling it’s not effortless.

  33. lila fowler says:

I love Alicia’s dress. Very simple and elegant. I think she’s so gorgeous and very talented as well.

  34. FF says:

lol, Missed the bit about Fassy’s comment. Well, finally! If you’re a couple and seen frequently travelling and spending time together you can say you’re her boyfriend after a year – that’s more than reasonable. Looks to me as if he didn’t want to say before now it in case he jinxed the relationship.

So I guess everyone can get off her dick now (but I doubt they will).

    • Kiki says:

Jinxed? I don’t undeestand. Don’t get me wrong everyone should fall in love. But she is not likeable and he is campaigning. This is why I am done with him. I hooe he enjoys pap photos

    • SusanneToo says:

The teeth gnashing of the usual suspects is pretty funny. And sad.

  35. Crumbedtofu says:

She looked sooooo cute. I’ve never seen them dressed up in public before (scruffy pic in Sydney (?) don’t count) and they make a really cute couple. She’s probably not the most likable public figure but she’s talented and he’s phenomenal. I’m surprised he’s lasted this long with a relationship.

  36. Mira says:

I posted a link where they (she and fassy) are holding hands after the Golden Globes, it wasn’t accepted in the comments section. What on earth? Are we not allowed to post links?

  37. SashimiV says:

The dress is not ugly, but something is off–too childish maybe. It does go with her overall understated style though. She’s pretty and trying to get in with the fat cats. I want to be mad at her for this because I love Fassbender and I’m so jealous she gets to bang him, but who wouldn’t want to have that life? Can we all honestly say we wouldn’t be somewhat the same in her shoes? Getting cast as an actor is near damn impossible, let alone breaking into Hollywood and then nabbing some nominations, so good on her hustle. She has cards stacked against her for being relatively unknown and foreign.

Now onto him: he looks much better here than GG 2014. Thank goodness! I wish he had won the GG this year. However, he’s starting to lose some of his charm and I still think he’s probably a horrible boyfriend to have, but an awesome lay! He’s getting old fast. Also, I hate that stupid pose he does with tuxedos. I’m always expecting him to unbutton his jacket and flash us all…! 😉

  38. twiddlet says:

It looks like LV raided the Downton Abbey costume closet and forgot to grab the dress that went underneath the apron. That makes it twee for me, and I didn’t like it. As far as the couple, he makes her look like a teenager, and she makes him look like her Dad. Which makes both of them look like needy narcissists. Based on their behavior in public, I’d prognosticate they both know this relationship has an end-date.

  39. What's inside says:

    I think she rocks it.

  40. TreadStyle says:

She was my favorite look of the night. She’s so elegant! Loved seeing her and Michael laughing and talking at their table. Best looking couple of the night! Both seemed in great spirits even though they didn’t win.

  41. Me ThreeI says:

I think she looks lovely but as usual, she looks like she’s about 12 years old.

  42. Dani says:

She’s serving some Little House on the Prairie milkmaid couture with a dash of WWI Red Cross nurse realness, he looks like he finally got a touch of much needed botox. That’s all I got.
