Saoirse Ronan in Saint Laurent at the Golden Globes: angelic or awful?

Even though I really don’t mind that Brie Larson won Best Actress in a Drama, I felt a little bit sorry for Saoirse Ronan. It would have been really fun to see her win. She was one of the younger women at the Golden Globes, and she took it seriously, which I love. She went for a total princess moment and it worked! She’s wearing Saint Laurent, a wispy, white gown with a dramatic back. This is one of those gowns which actually looked better in motion – she really stood out on the Globes red carpet, and she looked angelic and beautiful. For some reason, the photos seem a little bit flat though.

Also in Saint Laurent? Jane Fonda. Yes, I couldn’t believe that this was Saint Laurent either, but the house claimed it so it’s for real. She looks like some kind of dessert? Maybe a wedding cake? Whatever it is, it’s terrible. For some reason, Jane got so many cut-aways, perhaps because her reactions to what was happening on stage were so perfect. Like, she was severely unamused by Jonah Hill’s bear antics.

She looked very lovely, if not a fashion standout. Jane Fonda, what on earth were you thinking?

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

As Blanchet’s dress is ugly as Fonda’s dress top is “really??🤔”

      • Bros says:

but both are rocking those high degree of difficulty dresses like no one’s business. Jane fonda is 2 millimeters away from looking like a clown and cate was 3 millimeters away from looking like a madame at a western saloon but they are both winning in dresses nearly no one else could pull off. dress wearing skillz.

  2. Goats on the Roof says:

Saoirse is one of my favorite looks of the night.

    • lucy2 says:

Mine too. Just absolutely classic and elegant.

    • JenniferJustice says:

Me too. I dont’ think of angelic even though she herself is angelic. I think it’s a bit Greek Goddess, but I like that look. She’s so sweet looking.

    • cd3 says:

I love her. Good look, but the top was a little too big on her. Needed better tailoring.

Gorgeous styling on her with lovely under-stated hair and make up. She’s beautiful.

  3. Kiki says:

I really love Saoirse Ronan’s dress. It is really pretty.

  4. Dtab says:

Saoirse looked lovely, she was not trying to hard and showed the right amount of skin…so it was perfect.

Jane Fonda is JANE FONDA, she can wear what she wants and still look 100times better than people half her age. She is flawless

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Agree. I love Saoirse’s dress, although I hope their was some tape in there because it looks like a malfunction waiting to happen.

And Jane Fonda is the only person in the world who could pull off this dress, but I think she does.

  5. Dani2 says:

Saoirse just looks so sweet, it’s very bridal looking but I still thinks she looks very pretty.

Jane is such a gorgeous woman but this dress is an example of how ruffles can really ruin a look, take away the ruffles and this would have been one of my favourite looks of the night. She’s so beautiful.

    • Dtab says:

Satires? Autocorrect or On Purpose?? either way very funny since everyone is getting her name wrong 🙂

      • Dani2 says:

LMAO that was auto correct, but at least it didn’t misspell it as Sheesha like Dennis McQuaid pronounced it back in December 😀

  6. Locke Lamora says:

Saoirse usually has such interesting stlye, so I was surprised she wore a boring grecian gown that was a bit too old for her and a bit too big on her. Hair and makeup are great.

    • Bae says:

Yeah, I was expecting more from her. This is such a bland look. Lily James did the Grecian thing better.

  7. vauvert says:

Loved Saoirse. The problem is that white dresses always make one think if weddings, so it would have been even better in a soft blush or pale blue colour, but she looked lovely and age appropriate.
At first I hated Jane’s confection but looking at the close-ups I see shades of the very structured 70s style dress made by St. Laurent so I kind of like it… At least it is a full on dress, no silly cutouts and see through sequinned mess.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah I normally DETEST ruffles of any kind but somehow I don’t mind this. Her hair and makeup are on-point as well. Also, I want the number of her plastic surgeon….

    • Carol says:

Yes, Jane Fonda does look like she is wearing a wedding cake, but she still looks amazing. And although her face hardly moved last night and had an eternal “I don’t get it” look on her face, I too want the name of her plastic surgeon.

  8. Karen says:

Last night I literally asked “who did Jane Fonda pay to get so many cut aways?”

  9. Nancy says:

Jane’s dress looks like Bozo the clown lent her his ruffles. But she is gorgeous. This woman is working her way to 80 and looks fabulous. You can have all the surgery in the world, but that body. Those work outs in the day paid off for her.

    • Naddie says:

And not that face as well! So many women tweaking their faces just like her, but the results are not even close to Jane’s.

  10. serena says:

    Saoirse is so pretty!

  11. kri says:

Ooooh! I didn’t watch last night, so now Saoirse’s dress is tying with Amy adams. Lovely, and I’m usually not a fan of stark white.

  12. Kelly says:

SAOIRSE dress was no bueno, but even though I hate what Jane Fonda is wearing she still hits it out of the park. Would love to see her and Helen Mirren in a fashion face off.

  13. Tania says:

Forget Jane’s reactions, did you notice the guy sitting next to her? His reactions were pretty funny.

  14. Fran says:

Saoirse’s fitting around the bust area was totally off looking at this pics. Just look at the panel on the right and that on the left covering her boobs.

  15. K says:

She looks lovely, I love love the dress. It’s not in your face but the details are of the draping and fabric are amazing.

Jane Fonda looks like the cakes she made a fortune in the 80s telling women how to burn off with her jazzerize.

  16. Wentworth Miller says:

Saoirse’s dress, tho! I love it

  17. Lucy says:

Saoirse knocked it out of the park!! I sort of need that dress rn.

  18. Ethelreda says:

I seem to be the only one who doesn’t like Saoirse’s dress. I thought it looked heavy and old-fashioned on her young, fresh beauty, though I accept that it probably looked much better in motion. Also, the colour washes her out and for some reason, the dress makes her look chunky around the waist, which of course she isn’t.

  19. Dani says:

Saoirse looked very pretty, if a bit boring. Safe, I guess. And I actually liked Jane’s dress, especially sitting at the table. I felt the ruffles were a dramatic frame that highlighted her stunning face – every time the camera went to her (which seemed to be a lot) I was mesmerized. She looks so damn good. I know she’s had work done, but it’s good work.

  20. DEEVIA says:

Jane Fonda always reminds me of her fabulous and neurotic character in the “Monster in Law” movir with JLo. The woman knows how to bring the drama in her fashion and doesn’t care if it somtimes veer into villainess.
