Amber Heard in Gucci at the Golden Globes: lovely, shiny or unmemorable?

Amber Heard was SO SHINY. Was it sweat? Was it really hot inside the ballroom? Probably, because there were lots of women who looked sweaty and frazzled as the evening wore on. But Amber looked shiny on the red carpet. She looked shiny at the beginning of the night, when she presented. That’s why she was there – to present. And she was the first person I thought of when Ricky Gervais said “You are megastars with enormous talent. Most of you – some of you just married well.” Amber’s drunk other half did not attend. Which is why she didn’t get much attention from the live red carpet outlets.

Amber wore this Gucci gown which… is okay. I don’t flat-out hate it, and I actually like that she’s giving us a new silhouette, a new style that we normally don’t see from her. I like that she wore a color too. But that’s it. This looks dated rather than “vintage.” It looks like a bridesmaid’s gown from 1963. And she’s still a charisma vacuum.

Katy Perry was arguably one of the most famous women at the Golden Globes, but it really didn’t feel like that all, right? It was almost like she was undercover in a strange land where her pop stardom had no currency. Katy wore this bubble-gum pink Prada, which photographs better than it looked in motion. That’s not on Katy – she was trying to work this dress, but Prada’s crappy bust work failed her. While I’m happy that there wasn’t off-center darting all over the bust (a Prada “signature”), this gown did make Katy’s girls look slightly deflated in many shots. Katy also told J-Law that she was wearing a Bump-It. Which is actually sort of cute, but I like big, fluffy hair.

Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana… whoa. She looks very severe. Let’s say that. The dress itself is boringly efficient, but her styling is just too severe. If I was styling her, I would have gone with softer makeup, softer hair and less “hard-edged” dress. There’s something brittle about her look.

Meh! I don’t know how I feel about this dress. I’ve never liked dresses with the nude underlay.
Katy Perry. No. Just no. Her ass looks good, tho.

  2. Rachel says:

That’s a whole lot of oh hell no with Katy leading the pack.

    • InvaderTak says:

lol Perfect description. I second this.

    • zinjojo says:

Katy’s dress is awful — Pepto Bismal pink, and it doesn’t fit her. The bust isn’t fitted at all, and the bodice is too tight — shouldn’t be wrinkling like that in front. And the bump-it hair? Looks like she did it herself. Awful. As always. She has no taste at all.

Asking in all seriousness, why was Kate Bosworth there? Does she act in anything these days? Was she a presenter?

      • Rachel says:

She was a presenter. I have no idea why. And the dress looked worse on camera than in photos… if you can believe it.

      • QQ says:

Presenting: The Job for every Kate/Jennifer/Jessica that is Categorically never invited to these awards for their body of Work!! Is almost Like “here girl, come to the Party, come see the real stars and give them their award, come and Present! It’ll be a good time!”

  3. SamiHami says:

I like Amber’s dress. It’s very pretty and a great color. But I agree-she is very shiny! It’s distracting. Katie Perry looks better from the back. I hate the hair. The bump it was a mistake! And Bosworth; yeah, I agree. Way to severe a look. It’s an award show, not a hanging!

    • Kitten says:

“It’s an award show, not a hanging!”

lol..yeah that hairstyle is not a good look on her. I still find her beautiful, if brittle-looking.

    • MB says:

I agree, Katy Perry looks great from the back. From the front, its a bit of a disaster to me. Not sure why, it might just be the whole look in general.
Bosworth’s dress is actually rather stunning but the whole harsh look on a typically bland actress is not really working for me.

  4. Locke Lamora says:

I think Kate looks great. Not severe at all.
Katy’s dress is nice but the hair is awful. And is she one of the most famous women? I doubt any of my relatives older than 40 know who she is.
Amber looks good from the neck up, but the dress isn’t good.

    • Carol says:

I loved Kate’s dress. It was so beautiful, actually may be my favorite. Her thinness is a little distracting though.

  5. Tiffany says:

I think the reason Kate B looks so severe is the signifcant weight loss. 5 or 10 pounds can really make a difference.

    • Crumbedtofu says:

She’s thinner than even just last year. I don’t get why people have to go this far. Bryce Dallas Howard is a beautiful woman. Kate Bosworth looks like a social xray. Her arm, neck, and skin on those areas look like they belong to someone aged 50 plus. Malnutrition. She’s lost perspective of her own body and it’s sad to watch.

  6. Maum says:

Amber would have looked better with a red belt on. It would have made the dress.

And yes she looked very shiny. Was it a make-up malfunction? Was she meant to look fresh and dewy?

  7. vauvert says:

I actually loved Amber’s dress. She is so beautiful and that dress is stunning IMO. I would love to wear it. Charisma vacuum yes, and that was my first thought when Ricky said that…
Katy looks awful, and the hair, yikes. Kate would look so much better with softer hair, the dress is really pretty and a lovely colour.

    • ell says:

exactly, charisma vacuum but she’s ridiculously pretty, it’s unfair.

      • Kitten says:

Really? I find her so average-looking. She cleans up well, I’ll give her that, but without all the glamorous makeup and styling her face is so generic and forgettable.

      • ell says:

it’s everything though, not just her face, her figure looks lovely as well.

  8. Nikki says:

I would have written every word Kaiswr did. As soon as I saw Amber, I was like,”WHY is she so shiny? Is she perspiring, or did she madly overdo some moisturizer? I didn’t like her dress, though, and it looked like there was some weird bra line underneath, like a sports bra or some weird line. Katy Perry’s top detailing really let her girls down, and Kate sure could have used some warmth, lovely as she is. Kaiser, how did you get into writing instead of being a stylist to the stars? (Maybe some read you and improve?)

  9. paleokifaru says:

I love Kate Bosworth’s dress but it falls so flat on her because she’s also a personality vacuum. That dress would be major on someone else.

    • Bros says:

agree. plus her consumption make up is poorly done. she looks like a giant pink tuberculosis face.

    • Bridget says:

I don’t get why Kate Bosworth has ever been considered a “fashion girl”. There’s always such an air of ‘she had to buy the gown herself because she wanted to go so badly’ about her. And who owed her a favor to get her that presenting slot?

  10. Mrs. Darcy says:

Agree strapless + bony shoulders and severe bun is not a good look on Kate B. I don’t think Katy P. looks all that bad, I mean, it’s not great, but she’s obviously trying to look old school glam and missed. I like that she doesn’t shove her bosoms up to her chin like Christina Hendricks. The hair is the problem I think, it’s too Priscilla Presley, she should have gone for a more classy up-do. Amber’s dress obv. reflects the fact she is surrounded by nothing but yes men stylists, it’s so obviously thinking it’s vintage and elegant but it’s a big miss.

  11. Mia4s says:

Why chose? Lovely, shiny, AND unmemorable. That pretty much sums her up!

Kate Bosworth, Kate Hudson, Orlando Bloom? Is it just me or did this year seem heavy on the “why”?

  12. Hejhej says:

I think Katy would have looked quite perfect if the dress had fit her better. It’s so strange that a company will make a dress that sits so badly on the person wearing it.

I think the Bos looks so hard and frail because she’s posing for her life. In other photos, where she’s simply smiling or interacting with people she looks better.

  13. M.A.F. says:

I could not understand why Bosworth was there. And she always looks brittle.

  14. ell says:

    “Amber’s drunk other half”

    i love this.

i like the dress tbh? mostly it’s because, as boring as she is, i think amber has a gorgeous figure and can pull off most outfits.

why does katy perry always looks cheap af? can’t she get a better stylist?

i like bosworth’s dress, but why is she invited to these things, does she even act?

  15. Size Does Matter says:

Katy Perry’s totally channeling Loretta Lynn.

  16. Zigggy says:

I love Katy’s hair- I’ve always wanted to try something like that. I even bought a bump-it like 10 years ago, but still have yet to try!

  17. Pants says:

Katy looks great from the rearview, but even when I saw her present last night my reaction was “holy tits!” I like the color of Amber’s dress. Kate Bosworth just looks so severe. And for as busy as that dress is, I’ll forget about it altogether in a day or so.

  18. perplexed says:

David O. Russell seemed so weirdly grateful to Katy Perry that she liked his movie.

  19. AlmondJoy says:

Absolutely hate Katy’s wig. Saw it up close while she was presenting and was shocked at how bad it was. Her body looks great though.

  20. Armenthrowup says:

THE something brittle I think is Kate herself. Where are her internal organs!??!?! Nothing wrong with being very slim, but this to the point of emaciated. Poor thing 🙁

  21. Bridget says:

The pictures of Kate Bosworth and her husband on the red carpet are pretty funny – they’re both posing SO hard.

I would have liked Amber’s dress better in a different color and on a different person, because on her it doesn’t really pop.

Why was Katy Perry seated at Denzel Washington’s table? What a strange seating arrangement!

    • Calcifer says:

@ Bridget ‘I would have liked Amber’s dress better in a different color and on a different person’ Hilarious, especially the part about preferring it ‘on a different person’.

I personally would prefer every dress on a different person than Amber Heard.

  22. lisa2 says:

I didn’t watch the show that much..and I really thought Amber didn’t show up because I had seen nothing about her.. Was Johnny there too.

    • Liz says:

No he was not. She came rushing up the carpet 20 minutes to showtime and also appeared to leave after she presented, frankly, she was a waste of a dinner plate. And it seems rude to hustle to present then ditch right after and not sit for the last hour. Maybe she couldn’t handle being the butt of a joke.

  23. mmm says:

Amber was super super late, maybe that’s why she was so shiny because she had to run to inside because she arrived when they were about to start. The red carpet was finishing and her friends were still posting pictures of her at the hotel getting ready. Not sure if it was something she wanted to do because she didn’t want to walk the red carpet without Johnny after the Globes snubbed him or if it was just she was late.
I’m inclined about the option that it was uncomfortable to walk the red carpet that snubbed Johnny. A few years she was presenter and she arrived at the beginning of the red carpet and got a lot of free coverage, so she must know

  24. Carmen says:

Loved Bosworth’s dress. Meh on the other two.

  25. Sarah01 says:

Yes Katy is very arguably one of the most famous people there – seriously?
She was hand down the worst dressed and styled of the night.
Kate’s dress is too much. It should have been a knee length dress. Or the top part as a bodice with a elegant skirt.
And when Ricky joked “married well” Amber was the first person that came to mind.

  26. Liz says:

LOL someone needs to send the memo to allure that Amber’s reflective face was a MISS because I kid not, they grabbed her make up artist to get the “secret” to her glorious look! LMAO Um, no. I noticed they left out the drug use as well. But it’s nice to know that if you too would like to look like a sweaty mess, you can follow their step by step. I personally would FIRE my MUA if I went on national TV like that and it was INTENTIONAL. That has been her look and somehow she thinks it’s good. Yuck. She was bouncing light right off her forehead. Agree the dress was just meh.
I like Kate’s dress but I want to feed her soooo bad!

  27. mp says:

I actually prefer shiny Amber to really washed out, dry skin (which the Boz seems to have going on.) Although, to me, the frame/skin color (especially her arms?)/hair of the Boz is…severely worrying.

Loved the joke about marrying well and Amber. 🙂

  28. Crumbedtofu says:

Amber looked really bad on stage when she was presenting. Her whole face was exceptionally shiny. Katie Perry looked way too casual in that dress and the colour is not the best for her complexion. Kate Bosworth looks unhealthy and sick as always and she’s always going for the ultra high-fashion look to show everyone what a fashion-forward fashionista she is. Her diet is starting to show in her face and neck and I’m not body but diet-shaming. I mean, this kind of thinness is aging and the term that comes to mind is social x-ray; thanks, Tom Wolfe. She needs to look to her ex’s ex, qualified nutritionist Miranda Kerr, for how to stay ultra slim yet super healthy. Yikes, she looks very unwell. No one should be doing that to themselves.

  29. What's inside says:

Would someone please fix Kate Bosworth a sandwich? Seriously!

  30. cd3 says:

Jesus. All three are so bad. It’s like a contest to see who could wear the worst pink dress. Ugh.
