Saoirse Ronan in Antonio Berardi at the Critics’ Choice: stunning & ethereal?

Once again, I love what Saoirse Ronan is wearing. I realize that many people disagree, but I think she’s absolutely perfect when it comes to being occasion-appropriate, age-appropriate and keeping it pretty simple. Saoirse wore this Antonio Berardi gown in pale blue (the color trend of the night), and it’s honestly one of my favorite looks from the Critics’ Choice Awards. It’s flattering, it’s a beautiful silhouette, it’s elegant without looking too mature. Either she has a great stylist or she’s just got impeccable taste. Unfortunately, Saoirse lost! I have a feeling she’s going to lose the Oscar to Brie Larson too. But Saoirse will be well-dressed throughout the season!

Helen Mirren in Dolce & Gabbana. I would probably loathe this gown on another woman, but I absolutely love it on Helen. She somehow makes a slightly tacky, somewhat gaudy dress with sheer sleeves look REGAL. Plus, Helen is giving me #HairGoals. That’s a perfect bob!!!

Constance Zimmer, who won from UNreal. I can’t find the ID on her dress, but I like it. Wearing stripes on a red carpet (or a blue carpet, as it was at the Critics’ Choice) is always a tricky thing, but this is a good example of how to wear stripes in a high-fashion way. Update: the ID on this dress is Tracy Reese.

    Ooh I love Saoirse’s gúna!

Like all of these. Saoirse’s is not my favourite cut but I love the light blue on her – and her make up is subtle without making her look washed out. She’s great, isn’t she? I’m so glad she’s getting the recognition she deserves.

  3. Locke Lamora says:

I love her dress, it’s beautiful. Much better than the one she wore to the Globes. Her hair I don’t like.
I saw Brooklyn and it was fine but nothing spectacular. She was good, but I think the Oscar should go to Brie Larson, her performance was better IMO.

    • Grace says:

the real better performance was Rampling’s

      • Locke Lamora says:

I haven’t seen 45 Years, but I feel like the “battle” at this point is between Brie and Saoirse. and out of them two, I liked Brie’s performance better. The Oscar rarely goes to the best actor anyway.

      • Div says:

Charlotte acts them all off the screen but Locke Lamora is right…it doesn’t go to the best actor most of the time. Charlotte is rather reserved too and AMPAS wants them out there campaigning and shaking hands. I I like Brie and she gave a wonderful performance….but she’s been working the circuit hard and everyone finds her adorable (she’s JLaw 2.0)….which will give her the edge so I bet she’s walking away with this award.

      • Locke Lamora says:

Oh, and I say that as someone who likes Saoirse much more than Brie. I read an article with her and Woodley and they came across as so hipster pretentious it was awful. I also saw her on James Corden with BB Thorton and Jack Whitehall. Jack and James were very funny. Brie and Billy Bob were soo not.

      • Monica says:

        @Div
Brie isn’t JLaw 2.0… People are alredy tired with her twitter campaign and media don’t speak about her so much. Lupita was a real darling media in the awards season

      • TrixC says:

Rampling should get it but won’t, because Hollywood is ageist when it comes to women. The best actress awards pretty much always go to women under 40.

I HATE Saorsies dress! It’s bot a bit unflattering and boring. She can do much better!

Love both Helen’s and Constance’s dresses, and I’m so happy Constance won for UnReal, one of my fave shows and she is so great in it.

    • Naya says:

I agree. Saiorse is too young and too preternaturally beautiful to be dressing like this. The dress belongs on a much older actress, although the color does bring out her eyes.

  5. Esmom says:

Love all the dresses but Saoirse’s hair looks too undone/unpolished with that gown.

    • Nancy says:

She’s cute though. Just watched Lovely Bones over the weekend and she’s really evolved into a lovely young lady. Probably most everyone will disagree, but I love Helen’s dress. I would wear it in a minute. That black and white number makes me dizzy, definitely fug to me.

    • zinjojo says:

Agree, love all of the dresses on this page, but what made me click was I wanted to see Saorise’s hair. I get the somewhat messy, casusal hair, especially for her age, but this looks like my hair after I haven’t washed it for a couple of days. Other than that, I think she looks lovely.

Also, my girlfriend Helen Mirren looks fabulous as always. She elevates everything she wears, and her hair and makeup are perfect.

  6. vauvert says:

Helen is a queen. She can do no wrong and she elevates anything to a classy level. I love her dress. She totally rocks it.
Saoirse is very pretty, good colour but two things about that dress – the neckline is too high and makes a weird line with the cap sleeves, and the skirt is too long (as mentioned on the JenA post, is it because they are borrowed for free and can’t be adjusted? FFS…)
I do love the stripes though, I think it is a very pretty and original look.

  7. ell says:

saoirse’s dress is an excellent fit on her, it’s a bit boring though.

  8. Sara says:

Helen is so so stylish and has fun with her clothes, which sets her up for me compared to other stylish actresses.

  9. Karl says:

Even Brie Larson had her nude pics in the fappening

  10. SusanneToo says:

I love Saoirse’s dress. It has a 30s vibe, IMO. I can picture Dietrich or Lombard in it.

  11. SamiHami says:

I like the striped dress fine, but not for an awards show. It just doesn’t seem dressy enough.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

I agree. I was going to say I live her dress but hate the hairstyle with it. Something sleek but full ala Veronica Lake would have been lovely, or a soft updo like Alicia Vikander’s would have worked, too.

  12. GingerCrunch says:

Nice grouping! All are different, but really great.

  13. Alyce says:

I like the top of Saoirse’s dress but it could use a different bottom or something to make it more exciting. She is so unique looking but a lot of her style comes off as mother of the bride.

  14. Sarah01 says:

Saoirse’s dress is the best of the night. If it was the same colour as Jennifer’s dress it would be perfect.

  15. lucy2 says:

I love Helen’s dress, it’s fun and she seems happy in it.
Saoirse looks beautiful. I’m happy she’s nominated, but I too think it will go to Brie (who I don’t care much for but she was good in Room).

  16. kri says:

If I woke up tomm. morning and I was Helen Mirren I would be happy. That woman knows how to werk! Saoirse’s dress is a lesson in perfect cutting.

  17. TreadStyle says:

Saoirse is the ONLY one that can pull of this pale blue trend (at this event) in my opinion. I think she is so pretty. But I would love for her to try some different stuff w her hair. Even when it’s down its slicked back. I know she might fine hair but I would live to see a stylist give her some volume around her face for something new. Also: her skin is so perfect. I really hope we start seeing her more even after awards season! Helen: always a queen, no question!
