Leslie Mann in Monique Lhuillier at Critics’ Choice: ballerina fug or gorgeous?

21st Annual Critics Choice Awards 2016

Actress Leslie Mann, a/k/a Mrs. Judd Apatow brought some old school Hollywood elegance to the red carpet at last night’s Critics Choice Awards in a gorgeous dress by Monique Lhuillier. The black strapless bodice is the perfect vehicle to showcase her lovely pulled back hairdo and her siren red lipstick. I love the short black skirt covered by a longer, white tulle skirt. It gives the whole dress an ombre effect that really works. Leslie created a completely unified look with dark nail polish and a black satin clutch. Oh, and being the shoe aficionado I am, can we talk about those crystal-encrusted Christian Louboutin shoes for a minute? Gorgeous.

Shiri Appelby, a nominee for her role on Lifetime’s UnREAL, hit the red carpet in a rust colored chiffon gown by Leanne Marshall. I’m not crazy about the color of the dress, but the woman just had a baby last month (a son, named Owen, with her fiance, chef and restaurateur Jon Shook) and she looks stunning. The cut of the dress is flattering and her makeup looks flawless. Well played!

Flesh and Bone star Sarah Hay, who was also nominated for her work on the Starz drama, is giving me major Ann-Margret in her Lorena Sarbu gown. First off, I love her hair, I am a sucker for the 60s sex kitten look and her red curls are everything. Her makeup is also on point. Her black strapless gown with an extreme side slit shows off her dancer’s legs and she brought out the glittery accents woven throughout the dress with gold accessories – a Swarovski clutch, Jerome C. Rousseau heels and Csarite jewelry.

She played a wicked witch in The Wiz Live, but Mary J. Blige is looking wicked herself in a J. Mendel gown. The sheer black chiffon gown, with cutout peasant sleeves and beaded trim is elegant and even a little bit edgy. She gives a nod to The Wiz‘s Emerald City with some teardrop earrings, which look great with her blonde bob. I also think the neutral lip was a good choice, bringing the focus to her smoky eye makeup.

Leslie Mann is always doing some weird twee-too young-kids-at-a-50s-Picnic thing that I don’t understand

    Sarah Hay Looks DIVINE!

Good Makeup on MJB Not so good Dress

Shiri looks cute but sorta the Ariana Grande Pained Face thing?

  2. minx says:

    Love Leslie’s dress.

  3. Eggland's worst says:

Leslie’s shoes look SO uncomfortable. Buy shoes that fit sister! I love the expression on Shiri’s face. Kind of a WTF? look.

  4. Patricia says:

I want to put Shiri’s straps in place. Weird strap placement. But I love the ethereal vibe she has going, overall.

Leslie’s look is amazing. Head to toe, woman!

  5. lucy2 says:

Leslie looks good, but there’s something grating about her to me. I don’t know why.
    The rest aren’t bad.

Her voice and the fact that her husband casts her in every damned movie. Do like her dress though.

I like Mann’s look. I think her makeup is good; not caked on like a few of the women there. I don’t know what it is but it feels like her outfit is incomplete. Could be the earrings or lack of neck jewelry. But it just needs something.

I saw that she is now doing the Comedian with DeNiro.. congrats. She seems to be working very steady.

I love Leslie’s dress! My favorite of the night.

  8. Jane says:

Mann’s dress looks pretty. However, I would have gone for a bit more in the accessory department.

  9. SusanneToo says:

LM reminds me of Kristen Scott Thomas for some reason.

  10. Brenda says:

I appreciate that Leslie is still rockin the thin eyebrows. Some women (*cough* me) just can’t pull off the thick dark eyebrow trend. Props to her for not giving in.

  11. Mimz says:

Everytime I see Shiri my teenage self wants to scream ROSWELL: MAX AND LIZ FOREVER

And the fact that she posts pics of them on ig for TBTs sometimes doesn’t help.
She just had a baby, she looks cute and probably a bit tired, a 1month old baby isn’t easy.

  12. Danielle says:

Leslie Mann is a well respected actress. Anyone else think the “aka mrs. Judd Aptow is a little gross?”

    • NeNe says:

I do, and quite annoying. I read an article a while back, and from what I understood, she is not well respected or well liked.

  13. WillowS says:

I’m the same age as Leslie Mann (43) and while it’s cute I think that dress is too young/twee for her. I think it would work better on someone like Zoe Kazan.

  14. Donna says:

Leslie’s lip color does not flatter her. The dress looks too try-hard-ingenue.

The rest of them….gorgeous! What a beautiful set of photos.

  15. NeNe says:

Cannot stand this woman! I think she has ZERO talent. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. In my opinion she is only cast in roles, because aren’t most of them written by her husband?

  16. Dani says:

Shiri Appleby! OMG, I just flashed back to high school. I loved Roswell. Jason Behr… unf.

  17. Denise says:

Love Leslie’s dress. It’s great on her body. As for the rust coloured dress, just yesterday I was reading my daughter a book written in the 70s and the colour of an outfit was described as rust and my daughter asked what that was. I explained and said you’ll never see that colour now. But there it is! Is that the same Leanne Marshall from Project Runway several years ago? I was a fan of hers with she was a popular Etsy seller. Rust aside, well done to her.
