Noel Gallagher is still ‘not a fan’ of Adele’s music: ‘Hello? No, f–k off.’

wenn22847162

I became a late-in-life Noel Gallagher fan when I read his Esquire UK cover profile last year. It was honestly one of the best celebrity interviews I’ve ever read – Noel is caustic, hilarious, rude, honest, crazy and fascinating. You don’t have to agree with everything he says, but I guarantee that he’ll make you laugh. But then in December, Noel went TOO FAR. He disrespected our QUEEN. No, not Beyonce (although I imagine his thoughts on Beyonce are amazing). He dissed Adele! Noel said, in part: “If someone wants to know what I think of Adele, I’ll f–king tell them… I just don’t see what all the fuss is about. I don’t like her music. I think it’s music for f–king grannies.” As in, because Adele’s music appeals to everyone, even older people, he doesn’t respect it. So of course when Noel was chatting with the March issue of British GQ, they asked him to talk about Adele. Some highlights:

On Adele: “Adele? I’m not a fan. She always comes on the radio when I’m having my cornflakes: ‘Hello?’ No, f–k off!”

On Saturday night television: “I’ve been offered the X Factor twice and – right after I left Oasis – Strictly Come Dancing. Just ee-f–king-magine.”

How his music is ignored in America. “I’m doing some stuff that, this time in particular, will get really, properly ignored in America. I don’t just mean ignored like the rest of ’em. I mean properly ignored. That’s what I’m aiming for: total, total anonymity. I’m sick and tired of being in New York and being pestered by one person a month. That’s gotta f–king stop.”

His goal for 2016: “I remain f–king totally awesome. In 2016, I’m as awesome as I was in the back end of 2015. My hair is impeccable; it’s not showing any signs of thinning, at all. I’m f–kin’ thriving. Thriving!”

[From British GQ, Rolling Stone]

Again, if Adele isn’t your particular jam, that’s fine and go on your way. I feel like Noel can’t even help himself at this point. It’s not that he’s Kanye-ing his life, where he throws tantrums and then repents and asks for forgiveness. Noel sees himself as a provocateur, a professional contrarian. Of course he’s going to talk sh-t about Adele. I also love this: “I’m sick and tired of being in New York and being pestered by one person a month. That’s gotta f–king stop.”

HAHA! The sarcasm is dripping off those quotes..

He kind of did comment on the whole Tidal thing (anf by default Jay Z and B) when he told them they looked like the Avengers standing there at the launch and maybe just go off and write a decent tune.
I remember because it made me laugh for a solid 5 minutes

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

Omg that’s amazing hahahaa he’s not wrong about Tidal, they did look ridiculous.

      • Lindy79 says:

It was from his epic Rolling Stone interview, seriously it’s amazing

        http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/noel-gallagher-sounds-off-on-tidal-zayn-malik-and-same-sex-marriage-20150505

His comments on same sex marriage struck a chord with me as Ireland was coming up to the same sex marriage referendum and the No voters were throwing the “poor children” argument about. He summed it up in all honesty and I loved him for it.

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

@lindy79 Thanks! I’m going to read that ASAP. I like that he doesn’t sugar coat his answers, it’s his opinion & if you don’t like it that’s too bad.

      • C says:

Lmao this tidal comment is perfect

      • Boston Green Eyes says:

I love the Gallaghers – always have loved Oasis and I love all the sh!TE that comes out of their mouths.

I especially love this line from the Lindy’s link to the Rolling Stone interview – and I believe it also belongs in the #OscarsSoWhite category, too:

“It is all old men who sit on these committees. They’re part of the old world and they’ll be fuckin’ gone soon, so f^ck ’em.”

    • lucy2 says:

That Tidal thing is pretty funny.

He seems perpetually pissy, but I bet when Adele heard this, she just did that awesome cackling laugh of hers and continued on about her day.

    • Natalia says:

Gallagher should take his own advice. Goodbye.

  2. Tifygodess24 says:

He’s in a state of constant grump.

    • Janis says:

Rock’s Reigning Curmudgeon. I love that he has no filter and isn’t concerned about backlash. Does he even have a publicist?
He appears to own who he is – are you listening Kanye? OT, his daughter Anais is gorgeous.

  3. Naddie says:

Envy detected. And please, tell me that this girl in the pic is his daughter/niece, anything but girlfriend.

  4. Locke Lamora says:

Oh I love him so much. He’s hilarious. I love Oasis and I really like Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

While I don’t think Adele makes music for grannies, I don’t get what the big deal is. She’ great as a person, and beautiful, but her music is mediocre. Boring generic love songs.

We already had this discussion, didn’t we?

    • Josephine says:

I love him, too – so funny in a smart way. The thing that I think is impressive about Adele is her voice – I think it’s quite magnificent. I think he was talking more about her music as a whole, and I get both the love and the criticism — musical tastes vary tremendously, as they should.

    • dAsh says:

This. I think Adele is talented and all that but her songs sometimes annoy the sh_t out of me. Most of the time, her songs sounds like she’s almost always yelling or screaming in it. I don’t get the over hype with this album too. Her 21 album was better.

    • Kitten says:

We actually agree on something! yay.

Wait-we agree on TWO things!: Noel is hilarious and Adele’s music is boring.

      • Sixer says:

No fair! Find something to agree with ME about too, Kitten. Or I’ll cry bitter salty tears of leftoutedness!

      • Kitten says:

@ Sixer-We both agree that The Bloke is sexy and we both agree that tea tastes good!

      • Sixer says:

        Eye fank yew!

      • Erinn says:

Add me to the list of agreement!

      • Ash says:

I think Adele’s music is boring too. It’s not awful, but it doesn’t move me in the way that it seems to move others.

      • Somegirl says:

Gah, other people who understand! I’m currently 39.5 weeks pregnant, and while Adele annoys me lately, especially her latest album, this kid inside me seems to LOVE her. He wasn’t moving this morning & I got worried and finally broke down and played the Adele station on Google Play. He was rocking out in my stomach in no time… At least one of us enjoyed it…

    • Crumpet says:

I’ll chime in on that one!

    • SugarQuill says:

Agree with everything here. You guys pretty much summed it all up.

      *waves Noel fangirl flag*

    • V4Real says:

Noel is probably as sick of Adele as I am and he’s venting just like us non entertainers do about over hyped celebrities. He just has a larger platform to vent from. He might come off as a bit envious of her success because he is a singer and is no where near as popular as Adele. Or he could just be sick of hearing music that makes you want to go out and pop a happy pill. But I don’t care I’m glad he said it. Her music is not that great, her lyrics are nothing spectacular and I agree her music should be played on adult contemporary radio stations.

Another thing stop calling Adele our Queen; she is not my or many others Queen. She’s just a singer who was marketed and handled extremely well. This bring me back to the conversation held yesterday I believe. Some of us were talking about Emeli Sande . She’s another British singer IMO who blows Adele away. She just didn’t get the kind of exposure that Adele has. If it’s true that Jay Z has signed her I hope she gets the type of exposure she deserves.

      • Ponytail says:

Um, didn’t Emelie Sande sing at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony ? She got PLENTY of exposure – if she hasn’t followed that up, that’s not really through lack of opportunity.

      • Locke Lamora says:

He’s maybe not as popular now, but he was a global suoerstar in the 90s.

      • V4Real says:

@Ponytail Well not everyone watched the 2012 Olympics. And what I mean by exposure is that her handlers get out there and promote the hell out of her like Adele’s camp has done with her. Sometimes it does depends on how your record label, agents, producers and others promote you.

That’s Rita Ora’s complaint now, she’s saying that Jay Z and his team didn’t do enough for her.

      • Sixer says:

Emile Sande was EVERYWHERE in the UK for a good couple of years. Perhaps it’s just a sides of the Pond thing and she wasn’t pushed as hard stateside? I know I liked her to start with but ended up feeling bludgeoned by her ubiquity (not her fault, but you know what I mean).

    • Veronica says:

I’d say the “big deal” for most people is her voice. Her actual songwriting ranges from mediocre to pretty good for me – and there are definitely better writers – but she’s a legitimately talented singer in an industry where pop music is generally dominated by less impressive vocals. It doesn’t hurt that she’s confidant (always attractive) and has a good bent for PR. Like most popular things, she’s a product that comes with a lot of hype, which is what I think completely turns off people who might otherwise be neutral.

  5. lilacflowers says:

Glad to see he has set goals for himself for 2016. I dare somebody point out to him that he’s old enough to be a grandparent.

  6. Sixer says:

If he ever did Strictly, I would be in seventh heaven. Since my mother died, there is only ME to keep my father company while he watches it (Mr Sixer Senior LOVES ballroom dancing).

I think Noel should say yes, just to make my Saturday teatimes bearable.

I can ee-f–king-magine it perfectly. It would be the best spray tan ever.

    • Amelia says:

Noel on Strictly Come Dancing would be f-cking *glorious*.
They’d be doing all the chit-chat upstairs after the performance and Tess/Claudia would be all ridiculously chirpy ~
“So, Noel, how was that?!!!! *hair flick* How was training for the charleston this week?”
      “F-cking awful.”

Forty/fifty years from now, his epitaph should read ‘Get off my Lawn’.
I love Noel so much, he’s a goldmine of quotes and snark.

      • Betti says:

Hahaha. I think his epitath would be ‘F*k Off! I’m dead’.

      • Sixer says:

Can you imagine Claudia?! That would, indeed, be glorious. She’d make puns that went over his head. He’d do swearing things that she had to try and cover.

Noel doing TERMS AND CONDITIONS in the Clauditorium!

        I need this now.

Noel doing the Viennese Waltz. To Adele. With spray tan.

        I also need this now.

(I know far too much about Strictly. This is humiliating. I will stop now.)

      • Amelia says:

Noel on the balcony watching the musical acts!!!
Him in his low-cut, purple, sequinned rumba shirt watching someone like Pixie Lott.
        *performance ends*
        *everyone claps, cuts to contestants*
        “Well that was sh*te.”

      • Lindy79 says:

Noel doing a cha-cha with an open pink shirt and being told by Craig he hasn’t got enough hip action while the band MURDER a song behind him to the point he turns around mid thrust and tells them to shut the f*ck up

(I too know way too much about Strictly)

      • Sixer says:

What would he do in movie week?

      • Amelia says:

        Jaws.
Tango. To match everyone’s skin tone.

      • lindy79 says:

        What about Musicals week?
Possibly a bit of, I Feel Pretty from West Side Story or Ass 10 Looks 3 from A Chorus Line?

    • lilacflowers says:

Noel in sequins. It would be worth locating to England for a few months just to watch it.

Also, I would love if somebody paired up Noel, Keith Richards, and John Lydon for a music talk show and the three of them could express their opinions on new releases. Although Noel would probably self-harm when he realizes that Keith shares his views.

      • Sixer says:

I’d put you up. You could sit with Mr Sixer Senior and me. Mr Sixer and the Sixlets are refuseniks, which I don’t think shows much in the way of family duty on their part. I’d buy you popcorn and Indian sweets.

They never seem to get ageing rockers. Only washed up boyband members or the spouses of ageing rockers. We need an ageing rocker.

      • lilacflowers says:

No ageing rockers? But it seems so like something Rod Stewart would do, doesn’t it?

      • Sixer says:

We only got Rod Stewart’s wife. And Ronnie Wood’s ex-wife. I think we may have got Rod in the audience.

      • Sixer says:

Oh Bee! You have made my day! The Sixlets are addicted to that show but I have never watched it. Noel was very restrained. I want that lady’s aeroplane ring. I am SCARED that Mr Sixer Senior and I are spirit animals to June and Leon.

      • Bee says:

I thought the same about that ring! I loved it. I think I enjoy Gogglebox more than any of those shows featured on there.

      • Sixer says:

I think I may have to sneak in when the Sixlets are watching it. Just for the jewellery! And I hate to say it, but I remember that Strictly dance. Oh, the shame!

  7. alexis says:

I think she’s overrated. Sorry for the unpopular opinion.

  8. Esther says:

“My hair is impeccable; it’s not showing any signs of thinning, at all. I’m f–kin’ thriving.”

lol. his interviews are always golden.

  9. Jade says:

I don’t love Adele but I think she’s better than most artistes in talent and music. It’s fine if her music is not his cup of tea, music is subjective anyway. At least he did not attack the person, just giving opinion about the music. Do correct me if he has attacked Adele the person on a personal level.

    • Bee says:

He doesn’t really attack artists personally. He has criticized Alex Turner (“he doesn’t say anything in interviews’) and yet they remain friends. The same for Ed Sheeran. Most of the time now he just disses other artists for their music, hypocrisy or attitude (or lack of). He said that Taylor Swift seems like a nice person but he just doesn’t like her music. I think that’s fair. We don’t all have to like everything. The ones that I remember being personal were directed to his brother Liam. I personally, like Adele and I like Noel , too. I hear that they are doing a Bowie tribute at this years’ Brit Awards. I am sure they’ll have a chat then.

    • Otaku fairy says:

Agreed. I liked 21 better, but there are some songs on 25 I like (my favorites are remedy, hello, and when were young) and out of the artists that are everywhere right now, she’s definitely one of the more deserving ones. But everybody has different tastes.

  10. M says:

So? He doesn’t like Adele, he said as much a few months ago, why would he have changed his mind? Why does it matter? I don’t really care for her music either, samey songs about a breakup. If she stays with this current guy forever is she planning to squeeze a fourth, a fifth album out of this breakup? Or will she finally try to draw inspiration from ANYTHING else?

  11. Capepopsie says:

I was hoping his goal for 2016 was clearing up his vocabulary. He obviously is in need
    Of that. .

When he can say a sentence without swearing then Maybe, just Maybe, I’ll
    Start listening.

  12. Nancy says:

Lol. What an egomaniac. At least he loves himself. Adele just called and said now who is this Gallagher person? I am taking a wild guess that she won’t be up nights concerning herself with the rantings of a madman. Hello

  13. Sara says:

I would have dinner with him and his BFF Russell Brand.

    • Kitten says:

      Best. Dinner. EVER.

    • Natalie says:

Yes! I was watching a video on Youtube just yesterday, of the two of them happily mocking each other.

And there’s something about the way Noel aged, because he’s now the hot Gallagher brother to me.

    • Erinn says:

I wouldn’t be able to eat. I’d just be sitting there, watching them, grinning. Just waiting for them to say hilarious things. It’d be magical.

  14. CFY says:

Noel has always been a cranky bastard. And I’ve always loved it even when I don’t agree with him and even when I was more of a Blur girl during the Oasis vs Blur days. He’s 200% unfiltered and I can’t help but by amused by what a grumpy old man he’s always been.

    • Kitten says:

      Blur > Oasis

      But Gallagher is still awesome.

      • The Original Tiffany says:

His new stuff is great, much better than Oasis. They’ve got him on Palladia a lot lately. Straight ahead rock. You should give a listen to his new band.
And obviously his sarcasm is a win for me.

      • Kitten says:

Hi beautiful lady! Long time no see 🙂

Thanks for the heads-up about Gallagher. Will go listen!

      • Magpie says:

Yes to Blur being the better brit pop band. But Damon is equally as bitchy. The 2 could bond now over their love of dissing Adele.

    • msd says:

Meh, Gallagher regularly sounds off about other musicians so nothing new here. He’s done well for himself considering Oasis made an entire career out of imitating Beatles songs.

  15. littlemissnaughty says:

LMAO “I’m thriving.” I should start throwing that out randomly. “2016 will be great. My hair isn’t going gray at all. I’m thriving.”

I don’t even think he necessarily dislikes Adele’s music, he probably doesn’t care about it but she’s the thing right now so of course he’ll have to poke her a little. It’s fine, she’s super successful and if you can poop on anyone, it’s the Adele’s and Beyoncé’s.

    • Betti says:

He’s single as well,as didn’t he and Nicole divorce last year?

      • LAK says:

Nope, that’s his brother Liam who divorced Nicole and has as messy a personal life as Jude Law.

Noel is surprisingly old fashioned in his romantic life by any standards ie as far as we know, he has only been with 2 women in the past 20yrs, and he married both of them – obviously not at the same time. And by all accounts adores his current wife, who he’s been with for 15yrs+

    • Esmom says:

I agree that the “Adele dislike” is more schtick than anything else. He said it bugs him when it comes on the radio at breakfast — as if he’s listening to pop/mainstream radio in the privacy of his kitchen.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

I’m trying to picture that … it’s glorious.

And I don’t know what happened with my apostrophes up there … smh.

      • Erinn says:

Maybe his kids have it on? Who knows. Either way, I like the imagery of him sitting, eating his cornflakes while listening to a pop station and just cringing.

  16. Breakfast Margaritas says:

Eh. British version of Charlie Sheen. Winning. It’s that same version of slightly funny sarcasm that people initially loved in Charlie.

    • Janis says:

I disagree. Charlie doesn’t hold a candle to Noel. Charlie squandered all he had for drugs and hookers. Working-class Noel has talent and did it all on his own against the odds. No nepotism for Mr. Gallagher.

    • Kitten says:

Oh totally. He and Sheen are the same person, practically.

      O_o

    • Leftovers says:

      lol what

    • Decorative Item says:

Oh I don’t know. He is a self made man with lots of talent and doesn’t abuse drugs, booze and prostitutes. He’s just a cranky old fart to me.

    • perplexed says:

I don’t think he’s anything like Charlie Sheen at all.

    • Breakfast Margaritas says:

Charlie Sheen in his lovable schmuck days delivered sarcastic comments which were lovingly lapped up by the public. He has been on several comedy shows worshipped by the American public. His biting sarcastic and slightly egocentric humor reminds me of Charlie Sheen.

      • Kitten says:

“Charlie Sheen in his lovable schmuck days delivered sarcastic comments which were lovingly lapped up by the public.”

Man I was having such a good day, too, loving mankind, and then you had to go and remind me….

FTR, I have always, ALWAYS hated Sheen. But yeah, I remember when everyone thought his angry rants and obnoxious catchphrases were “cute” and oh-so-amusing.

      • Veronica says:

Eh, in fairness, Gallagher hasn’t been accused of assault and other ugliness in his life (that I know of), so he might be a step up from the littering of pond scum where Sheen dwells. I will say that I have always considered this kind of public attitude to be the ultimate expression of white male privilege – because can you possibly imagine a POC or woman getting away with it?

  17. ella says:

Noel is one of the last celebrities remaining who say what they actually think instead of the media-trained, publicist-approved boring crap. I find it very refreshing (even though I love Adele). Thank you for the giggles Noel!

  18. Betti says:

Never been a fan of the music but he was always good for tabloid space. He’s a typical gobby Mancunian and I have known a fair few over the years.

  19. Zapp Brannigan says:

“I remain f–king totally awesome” is exactly how I will answer when somebody asked me how I am from now on.

  20. Jayna says:

I honestly think she probably got a chuckle out of him getting sick while eating his cereal when Hello comes on.

At this point, it’s a compliment for Noel not to like your music, and I doubt she is even offended by his comments..

    • Bee says:

Adele strikes me as the sort of person who doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her and that’s cool. If they met (and I think that they will at the Brit Awards ) they’ll probably get along fine. And he’ll still keep on disliking her music.

    • Josefina says:

“At this point, it’s a compliment for Noel not to like your music”

I’d personally be really worried if Noel actually liked my music. Oasis is acustic vomit and I’d like to sound the least possible like it.

    • Lisa says:

Adele is probably sick of “Hello” at this point too!

  21. AlmondJoy says:

He’s hilariously grumpy. It’s very entertaining. I do hope he’s just putting on for the interview and that he’s not truly this much of a jerk in real life.

Adele will be fine, she has tons of fans and worshippers. I doubt she’s offended. He seems like the type to hate any music that isn’t his own.

    • Josefina says:

He is an enormous jerk, particularly to his fans. Usually comes late at his concerts and interviews. Makes ridiculous demands. Typical rock star with an inflated ego.

      • solarized says:

Um..no? He actually arrives on time and even early to interviews and photoshoots. His concerts have mostly been on time and promoters say that he is one of he least demanding artists, rider wise. He is nice enough to the fans, from what I have read from people who have met him.

      • Josefina says:

        @solarized
Well then we’re listening to different sources. A friend of mine was a huge Oasis fangirl and she was the one telling me all these stories about Noel’s behavior. She told me he’s the kind who tells the audience to shut up because he’s the one supposed to be singing.

      • solarized says:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBbyc3t-Ctc

He has never said that at any gig of his that I’ve been to. I have been a longtime fan but I get and respect that people don’t like him. He has even given friends of mine hugs when they have met him so yeah, we have different sources, I guess.

      • Kitten says:

No. From everything I’ve heard, he’s super-nice and respectful to fans. Yeah, he teases them during sets (I heard he once called an audience “a bunch of freeloaders”) but he also goes out of his way to sign autographs.

This is him outside of a Dublin radio station:

        http://www.contactmusic.com/noel-gallagher/pictures/4618854

      • Gale says:

The only times Oasis concerts started late or were cancelled were because of his brother Liam. Noel is incredibly professional. lol, yeah the “freeloaders” were winners of a radio station contest. They got to see a special set played by him for bbc 2 radio. You can find it on YouTube.

  22. Marie-France says:

HAHA, he is hilarious! No filter and no ass kissing. Love it.

  23. ShinyGrenade says:

    Hahah Bless him.
But… I like Adele as a person. But I am not a fan of her music. Rolling in the deep? Nice. The rest? A bit melodramatic sad love song. Hello? Don’t get it. But that’s personnal taste and quite happy for her success. She don’t need to show her undies to be popular and she have a great voice.

  24. Sarah01 says:

I love Adele and her music. I also love hilarious, intelligent and unfiltered people like Noel.

  25. InvaderTak says:

I can’t stand this guy. I’ll never get over what he said to Michael from INXS when he presented oasis with some kind of award. I feel like there’s a lot of actual meanness masquerading as curmudgeon with this guy.

  26. serena says:

So what if he doesn’t like Adele?

  27. Adrien says:

He’s the master of insults. I like that he constantly disses his brother Liam. But my fave is put-down on Jack White. I don’t even understand what he meant but I found it hilarious. I don’t take any of his insults seriously.

    • Holmes says:

Okay, this guy made me shoot tea out of my nostrils twice in about ten minutes–first the New York comment, and since I detest Jack White I had to look up the comment you just mentioned, and shot tea out of my nostrils again. I think I officially love him now.

      • Hi says:

The “Zorro on doughnuts” one? Yeah, that’s a classic one. Someone should publish a book of Noel quotes . I would buy it, no question.

      • teacakes says:

One of my friends loved that Zorro on Doughnuts quote so much, he actually named his music blog after it, though the url was shortened to zonuts, on wordpress.

  28. Tiffany says:

If Noel spends to rest of his life doing nothing but interviews for interviews sake, I will be okay with that.

Dude is a talker. And a great one at that.

  29. kri says:

LOL! Oh, my god, what a vainglorious a$$hole! He i just such a piece of work. I love a bitchy man. Don’t get me wrong, he is very slappable, but his interviews-I think he should do stand-up. And I would love to hear his thoughts on the Kardashians.

  30. perplexed says:

For some reason the reference to cornflakes made me laugh (in a good way) and I like Adele well enough. The F-off after the “hello” is kind of amusing, because it’s true when you don’t want to deal with that person. It probably sounds even funnier when he’s saying it than when you read it in print, because his delivery with that Manchester accent usually works.

    • Kym says:

      +1 perplexed
I can picture Noel reading his own magazine article and being thoroughly pleased and amused with himself..munching away on his cornflakes.
Idk, I’ve always enjoyed hearing his viewpoint on pretty much everything.

  31. DEB says:

Why does this turd even get any press?

  32. Josefina says:

I find Noel hilarious. I love it that a member of Oasis – the sappiest, most pretentious, and awful band of all time – has the nerve to say anything negative about anyone. I literally prefer the sound of crying children to Wonderwall. Adele makes music for grannies but Noel’s music is a torture mechanism.

You know this douchebag in every school who played the guitar at parties, wrote really bad poetry, and acted like he’s so deep because of that? And he had a huge following of stupid girls who went crazy over him because OMG a guy with feelings? Well that’s who he reminds me of.

    • perplexed says:

I kind of think of him as the guy with no feelings. There’s a certain acerbic quality to him. I don’t mean this as a dis or a compliment — just as more of a neutral observation.

In private, I think he has stuff he cares about, like his wife and children. But in public, he has a highly unsentimental persona.

    • Wren33 says:

Yeah, their self-regard was something else, but I currently find him hilarious.

  33. Hannah says:

I love his interviews he’s hilarious. But where I come from oasis is called “dad rock” so I don’t really take him seriously when he is dissing Adele as grannie music.

  34. suze says:

Who the hell pesters Gallagher? LOL as if.

I say this as an Oasis fan who would pass by him on the street.

    • Kitten says:

But..that’s the joke he was making. He was being self-deprecating by saying ONLY one person pesters him ONCE A MONTH. Compare that to what an Adele or a Swifty or a Beyonce goes through with throngs of fans swarming them for selfies and autographs wherever they go.

This was within the context of him saying that in the US nobody gives an eff about him and he’s “properly ignored”. Read it again and you’ll see it:

“I’m doing some stuff that, this time in particular, will get really, properly ignored in America. I don’t just mean ignored like the rest of ‘em. I mean properly ignored. That’s what I’m aiming for: total, total anonymity. I’m sick and tired of being in New York and being pestered by one person a month. That’s gotta f–king stop.”

      • Deena says:

@Kitten, yeah. He’s just being his usual sarcastic self. Sometimes that sarcasm and self deprecation doesn’t translate to other cultures. Since he is one of the few celebrities to actually voice an unpopular opinion, the press go crazy for this kind of shit. Everyone else is so safe and boring. This is what Noel would sound like if he answered questions like the rest of celebrity land. http://youtu.be/vavA4NUKpy8
I for one, appreciate his unfiltered opinions.

      • Yeah says:

Lol! Noel Gallagher is truly AMAZING! love that guy.

  35. Penelope says:

He’s a breath of fresh air. And while Adele has a lovely singing voice, I couldn’t agree more with him about that god-awful song. The second I hear her say Hello I can’t switch my radio off fast enough.

And once again, the theme is that she’s practically stalking an ex who’s moved on from her. Enough!!

  36. FF says:

Can’t he take his own advice though? He and his brother have been has-beens for a while: disappear with some dignity. They were overrated hacks back in the day who just turned up at the right time with not a single original idea between them.

    • Jayna says:

I don’t know. I really enjoyed his post-Oasis High Flying Birds’ release, Chasing Yesterday. I always feel if you are still creative and making new music your fans like and touring the music you aren’t a has-been just because you aren’t as big as your heyday. It’s not great, but it’s a good album.

      • FF says:

I’m using his words. He and his brother were fast to dismiss INXS back in the day and yet want to hang around like a bad smell past their use by date.

I’m sure there are still dad rock loving Beatles fans who think he passes for creative. Or just plain found his new album inoffensive. A lot of them in the music press – it’s not like they could ever recognize good music over hackery anyway. He will always have an audience, even if only to justify the idea that Oasis ever had talent.

He can keep spitting at, while stealing from people, who have actual ability. I’m sure old school Oasis fans need to feel relevant from time to time, instead of ripped off.

  37. siri says:

I can only agree with him about Adele’s music. Nothing special, and her singing voice goes to my nerves, and not just that overhyped Hello. It’s a constant yelling- whining, and those lyrics…ughh. Gallahger is a grumpy guy, but- most of the time- funny at that.

  38. Grant says:

Oh how I love these pretentious blowhards who think that by strumming the same three chords on a guitar and singing in a single octave they’re musical geniuses above the insipid banality of mainstream music. No sir. You suck, and may have several seats in the “I’m not relevant” section.

But yes, Adele is wildly overrated.

  39. HK9 says:

If Adele is overrated, so is Oasis.

  40. Jess says:

Um I am no big fan of Adele but this guy thinks Coldplay is great. so that cancels out all his thoughts on music.

I mean you can’t seriously say Adele is safe and boring and Coldplay is like amazing. He’s like that old uncle who doesn’t like any music that came out after he was young. He’s entertaining though.

  41. Pants says:

I love Oasis, but the Gallagher brothers have always been more than a little exhausting. He does have spectacularly thick hair though.

  42. C says:

I think he’s just an ass in general (some people are!) but I agree. I hate Adele’s music – it’s absolutely boring. Pretty, but boring. And I get tired of hearing it 100x a day.

  43. TOPgirl says:

I agree with this guy…I’m sick of hearing Adele on the radio especially in the mornings when I’m driving…her song Hello comes on and it’s so super depressing sound that it has ruined many mornings for me. I always change the channel when i hear it.

  44. Emily C. says:

I’m not fond of Adele’s music AND I think this guy’s a sexist tool. As someone above pointed out, he’s old enough to be a grandfather, but he disses something as “for grannies” as if anything that older WOMEN like is inherently valueless.

Also I find his comedy deeply boring. He’s never even made me crack a smile. He’s just plain dull. Which is what I’ve always felt about Oasis, for that matter — even when I was a teenager, I found them much more boring than I’ve ever found Adele.

  45. Gabriella says:

I’m just here to say PLEASE WRITE MORE ABOUT NOEL GALLAGHER. I remember he’s never been very popular here, the very few old articles about him are kinda negative, but the man is PURE GEM!
    Thanks for this.

  46. pepper says:

I am with him on adele too. When I hear “Hello” on radio, i jump to change the station haha.

  47. mila says:

Gosh, I love him, but also I cannot stand Adele overload.
Adele may be some king of queen of pop now, but for how long? Albarn was right, her music is MOR.
Noel always plays with reporters, he is a rare gem, they just don’t make them like that anymore. He CAN apologize, but only if HE wants to.
Also, he is right about the States. They didn’t want The Beatles in and it never changed. They hated Queen, the band, not Adele, Sex Pistols, even Bowie. It is a rnr thing.

  48. hogtowngooner says:

Haha I love Noel. His music is awesome and his interviews are always gold. He’s unfiltered but at least he owns it.

  49. Allie May says:

Never heard of this wrinkled piece of poop, Noel. Heard plenty of Adele. Love Adele.

  50. Heath4z says:

Gosh, he really tickles my fancy. I love his snarky bluntness so much. I find it hilarious, and refreshing in a world where most people are too afraid to say what they really think. As someone above said, the man is a rare gem.

I can see where he’s coming from with Adele. She has some good songs, but she also has a lot of really dull songs. I think she’s talented, but way over-hyped. Someone like Brandi Carlile is just as talented as her, probably more actually, but you’ll never see Brandi getting near the attention Adele gets.
