Despite all the reports that Drew Barrymore and ex-boyfriend Justin Long are clearly back together, Drew says that’s just not the case. The actress was on Ellen DeGeneres’ show today, and she’s claiming they’re just good friends. I’m guessing it’s more like “just good friends with even better benefits.” Maybe they’re not officially a couple, but there’s sure a lot of affection between the two.
Despite public PDA earlier this week with ex Justin Long at the NYC premiere of her new HBO flick Grey Gardens, Drew Barrymore tells Usmagazine.com she is single.
“I love it! It’s great!” she told Us Thursday at the Los Angeles premiere of Grey Gardens. “I get to be who I am and do what I want and be with the people I love. I feel like I have everything, and I’m very fortunate, and it’s a very rich, fulfilling time in my life.”
On Friday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, she adds that she and Long – who are set to shoot the romantic comedy Going the Distance later this year – are just “good friends.”
“We’re doing a film this summer,” she says. “I guess people find it a little confusing. I totally understand. It seems like, ‘What is the deal with them?’ But we just adore each other. We’re in each other’s lives, and we’re friends, and we’re working together, and we have worked together.”
Would she be jealous if he began dating someone else? Nah. She wants him to meet “fantastic people because he’s a great guy, and he deserves the most happiness,” she says.
“And, for me, I am still just not ready for anything,” she continues. “I’ve spent two years really with a very different life than I’ve had before. My priorities have changed. I directed a film. I did this drama [Grey Gardens]. It was something I’ve never done anything like … and I don’t know how to maintain a relationship to be honest, while I’m doing all of that.”

Drew is one of those relentlessly positive people, which is charming. But I don’t exactly believe she’d say to Us Weekly, “I’d be filled with rage and jealousy if Justin started boinking someone else!” Even if that’s exactly how she’d feel. I’m not saying she should be bitter… or even that she should be brutally honest. I’m just pointing out that Drew’s habit of putting a sunny face on everything doesn’t make me wholly believe that she and Justin are just great pals.
It’s great that she’s at such a happy point in her life. She’s battled drug addiction and so many family issues, and it seems like that’s given her a lot of perspective, so she’s grateful for all the good she has now.
But I still think they’re doing it.

Drew seems like a lovely woman. Sadly, it seems like she is being taken advantage of.
He dated her to upgrade his status and get (any) films).
Now that she has become his career booster, there is no doubt he would be playing nice and try to keep her on the friendliest terms as possible.
He is not only using her, but wasting her time while otherwise she would have been open to a real relationship- one that could lead to children.
