Lady Gaga: ‘I would never, for a second, claim to be a proficient fashion designer’

Here are some photos of Lady Gaga out and about in NYC on Wednesday. She made some appearances at some New York Fashion Week shows, and in involved some costume and wig changes. I feel like starting a wager: what will be Lady Gaga’s hair color at the Oscars? I seriously doubt she’s still going to have the Ziggy Stardust orange at the Oscars. So will she be blonde? Or will she have dark hair? Will she got Marilyn, or Cher? Or something completely unexpected? I have $10 riding on Gaga being blonde and trying to be “glam.”

When Gaga attended Brandon Maxwell’s show at NYFW, she chatted with the Daily Beast about her friendship with Maxwell and more. Some highlights:

Brandon Maxwell went to the Grammys with her: “He was with me before I went on. He was with me when I got off. He dressed me for the rest of the night before he left. He got in the car and came to New York to do his show. I got on a plane right after to meet here. He didn’t drop one ball anywhere. He’s very clear on what he wants, and he’s got that sort of Zen quality about him.”

Whether she would ever branch out into fashion design: “Let me just say now I’m quite happy with him [Maxwell] designing for me and designing for other women. The thing is, at the end of the day, I have a real respect for fashion designers, and it is the reason I don’t have my own line and I probably never will. If I ever do anything in fashion it’s always going to be as a muse or aesthetic creative. I like to be part of helping artists find themselves and feel good about who they are. I would never, for a second, claim to be a proficient fashion designer.”

The other designers she depends on: “I can always depend on [Azzedine] Alaïa. I can always rely on Donatella [Versace] to make a beautiful dress. That woman knows how to cut a beautiful dress. I can always depend on Hedi Slimane to make something that is so cool and so driven by lifestyle, artistry, and passion. I can always depend on Alexander McQueen to make me something that will blow my mind.”

It’s worth noting that for all of Gaga’s talk about her collaboration with Brandon Maxwell, she still chose Marc Jacobs for her red-carpet look at the Grammys. I’m just sayin’. I like that she came out to support a friend, but it would have been nice if she actually wore his designs on the red carpet. As for the other stuff… I don’t believe that Gaga merely sees herself as model/muse to designers. She would totally love to design her own capsule collection or something.

PS… She still hasn’t said anything to her fans about NOT harassing Duncan Jones.

I find her so ridiculous. I can’t help myself. They’re all ridiculous…Prince William, Kanye, Kim K, Gaga. Emma Thompson, cake and Adele’s son in an Anna costume are the best things of the day. The rest…blech!

She still won me over from the Sound of Music medley at the Oscars last year. …I can’t hate on her …too much!

I really like the suit she’s wearing! The cut and fit is perfect, IMO.

  3. Amelie says:

I think she knows her limits. She can be a great entertainer on stage and also in her sartorial choices to express herself. She definitely loves fashion but unlike Kanye she is not going to insist she’s some kind of revolutionary fashion genius. She could be a “creative muse” whatever that means but it just sounds like something she’d do for fun.

I’ve always been pretty neutral about her. She seemed like a relatively talented, relatively intelligent pop star who borrowed a few schticks and did some stunt-y things to make a name but wasn’t undeserving of attention.

But I’m starting to actively dislike her. Not even trying to reign in her fans, what is that about? I don’t think Bowie was a real person to her and so his son isn’t either. It was just another opportunity to promote her own brand.

Wow those shoes look very uncomfortable , though still much more practical than how she used to dress!

  6. Lucy says:

That’s a lovely suit. And call me naive but I believe her about not wishing to become a designer.

  7. Amelia says:

Someone correct me if I’m wrong since my knowledge of hair care is, shall we say, ‘limited’ . . . but I dread to think what condition her hair must be in after the repeated bleaching, colouring, stripping of colour, rebleaching and curling that’s been inflicted 😳

She wears wigs about 95 percent of the time.

      • Jessica says:

Lady Gaga seems to be the type of celebrity in which the people that dislike her, care about what she’s doing or wearing 24/7 as the people that love her. It’s the same way with Angelina J., Beyonce, and Amal C.

  8. CornyBlue says:

She looks ok. I really do not see how she is a thing. Go back to the abyss of non relevance.

  9. Jayna says:

I find it is disgusting and distasteful how she is milking Bowie’s death and rocking that Bowie orange wig for attention, publicity for herself. It’s Thursday, three days since the Grammys, and she wears something to show her Bowie tattoo and still got the Bowie wig. Look at me, me, me.

No wonder Duncan tweeted what he did. He is the sweetest guy in the world and humble. He would not do something without good reason. Behind the scenes they knew more than we did.

  10. Fanny says:

Her continuing to co-opt Bowie’s image is adding insult to injury after that Grammy tribute. It’s like she wants this to be seen as her “Bowie era”. If I was tempted to think I judged her motives too harshly, this confirms to me that I didn’t.

She must be thrilled the paps are waiting outside her hotel again. I hope she dresses formal for the oscars and not costumey. It would be nice to see her relaxed and a bit more natural. She seems very aware of every little move and facial expression she makes (or tries to make **the shade**) and it’s awkward. My gut says she’ll try and do a Cher moment. Unfortunately.

  12. Lurker says:

She is so annoying and totally full of crap. Stunt queen to the max.
