Miss California thinks she lost crown because she’s anti-gay marriage

carrieprejean2
Yesterday, we had a big juicy fight over Miss California’s answer to a question posed by judge Perez Hilton at the Miss USA pageant. Perez asked Carrie Prejean if she believed in gay marriage. Carrie’s answer was, “We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”

Personally, I was amused at the extremely bad timing of Miss California’s anti-gay marriage stance. True, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But her lack of a well-thought-out, articulate response during a nationally-televised audience of women and gay men struck me as unintentionally hilarious. It’s not like she made some off-hand remark to a magazine, she said it front all of the gay men who were already peeved by the girl’s roots! Miss California went on to be the first runner-up at the Miss USA pageant, and she isn’t laughing now.

Carrie blames the gays and the people with a gay agenda for her loss of the crown. She thinks her answer to Perez’s question cost her the crown, but never fear, she’s sticking to her beliefs! Carrie says, “I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do… I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.” US Magazine has more:

Miss California Carrie Prejean says she believes her anti-same sex marriage stance hurt her chances of winning Sunday’s Miss USA competition.

At the Las Vegas pageant, Prejean, 21, was asked by judge Perez Hilton how she felt about legalizing gay marriage. “In my country, and in my family, I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman,” she replied. She later lost out to Miss North Carolina, Kristen Dalton.

“It did cost me my crown,” Prejean said of her response on Monday’s Billy Bush Show. “I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do.”

“It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct,” she added. “But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”

In an interesting twist, Prejean revealed that her sister supports same sex marriage.

“My sister is a second lieutenant in the Air Force and she is a gay rights activist,” she said of her sib, who is not gay. “She supports gay people, she supports gay marriage. My beliefs have nothing to do with my sister or my mom, or whatever.”

Her sister wasn’t offended by her remarks at the pageant.

“She was just in my hotel room and she said, ‘Sis, I’m not offended by anything that you said. We have two different opinions and I love you because of it. I love you because you stood up for what was right, and it’s not a matter of being gay or not gay, it’s a matter of you competing for Miss USA and getting a question and answering it to the best of your ability,”” she said.

Added Prejean, “That’s what’s so great about being an American – we’re able to have our own opinions.”

Despite all the controversy, “I feel like I won. I feel like I’m the winner. I really do,” Prejean said, adding that she had 1,000 messages on Facebook and 2,000 friend requests.

Asked about rumors that she is dating Michael Phelps, she said, “He is a great man. Wouldn’t you like to know, Billy Bush? We can talk about that a different day.”

From US Magazine

So, her sister is a gay rights advocate. So much for “I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.” It seems that even in her family, there’s a difference of opinion. And as far as her sister being proud of Carrie for standing up “for what was right” – um, what? What was right? Having an anti-gay-marriage opinion, or stating your opinion in an inarticulate way? I really hope her sister releases a statement and clears some things up.

So, did Miss California lose the crown because she’s anti-gay marriage? Or was it the way she worded her answer? Or was it all about the hair? Or the dress? Or was Miss North Carolina just better in every way, shape and form?

Who cares? Beauty pagents are redundant, sexist rubbish, popular almost nowhere in the Western world but the USA

Her answer was also ridiculous I might add…

  2. CandyKay says:

Hong Kong? Venezuela? There are some highly sophisticated places where beauty pageants are HUGE.

I don’t agree with Miss California on this issue – I have several happily married gay friends. But I do object that to the idea that there’s only one “right” way to think on any issue, which so many gay marriage supporters seem to believe.

If it was 1970 and she’d uttered a controversial pro-gay opinion – or 1950 and uttered a controversial pro-integration opinion – everyone would stand up and cheer when she added, “I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do… I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”

Respectng the diversity of opinion means you have to repsect opinions that are different from yours.

    But I can’t stand her make-up.

  3. gee_gee says:

Perhaps she should be a Playboy Bunny instead of a pageant queen. She can avoid the gay men. And no one will expect her to talk.

    …Just a thought.

  4. CandyKay says:

I love that idea, gee_gee! She’s definitely got that Bunny look.

  5. kxx says:

The way Perez asked the questions was like “Why or why not” or something, I dont agree with her but surely she knew Perez was gay and there would be a backlash if she answered in her own opinion?

  6. heh-heh says:

She might have just earned herself a spot as a commentator on Fox News. Was it a strategy all along — to play to the conservatives in the audience?

After all, they’re probably looking for someone to replace Ann Coulter…a woman who’s blonde, beautiful and doesn’t have man-hands or an Adam’s apple.

  7. mel says:

She could’ve worded her statement a little differently but she’s getting more attention than NC right now. May be it was a good PR strategy on her part. LOL

  8. Because I Say So says:

I think she’s ugly, and not just for her comments. But one white blond chick looks pretty much the same as any other…

  9. geronimo says:

All this hoo-ha over a comment made by a pageant competitor? Insane. I thought that was the entire point of pageants, to give the rest of us a laugh at the competitors’ inane responses? Why can’t the organisers just stick with the Qs that really matter: the contestants’ favourite colour, their ‘one wish’ (stop all the wars) and their plans for the future (working with animals or small children.)

  10. neelyo says:

Who knows what she really looks like. She’s wearing ten pounds of make-up and probably doesn’t even remember her natural hair color.

Yeah, she was stupid but probably no dumber than any of the other contestants. Miss USA has always been the ‘beauty not brains’ pageant. Miss America is where the well educated pageant junkies go. What questions were the other conestants asked? Does anyone know?

She was actually lucky to get Perez’ question. She’s in on a controversy generated by a huge fame whore whose fifteen minutes are running out, so he’s going to keep the buzz going as long as possible Now she can ride his coattails to a gig at Fox News or the PAX channel. Thanks Perez for giving us another vacuous blonde!

  11. DD says:

she could include being unable to form a coherent response as another reason for losing her crown. Not sure if this possibility ever crossed her mind, like maybe someone else deserved it more?

  12. dude wtf says:

I personally disagree with her. However, she told the honest truth which i believe she should. It takes alot of balls to tell a gay person she doesnt believe he should get married. What if she would of lied on stage just to please a gay person asking her a question. she would be a poor example for young girls b/c she lied in front of millons just to win a crown or to be considered “PC” She did the right thing whether you agree or not.

  13. bros says:

bottom line was: she had an inarticulate answer, no matter what her opinion was. she could not speak in full, normal sentences. north carolina did a much better job on another controversial question that could have been answered 2 ways, and even though i didnt agree with all of her answer, she defended it and spoke clearly. this is a no brainer. she is hiding behind the SUBJECT of the question she got in order to not have to admit the fact that she F’ed up her response by being a dimwitted cliched pageant blond. quit whining honey-you lost far and square. nothing worse than a sore, continually incoherent, loser.

  14. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Her answer was totally mangled, made no sense, and I really doubt it was the sole reason she lost. What a wonderful excuse for her to use, though!

  15. flourpot says:

What the hell is P Hilton doing hosting a Miss USA contest? Did I miss something along the way?

  16. boomchakaboom says:

It was a ridiculously bomb laden question, asked by PEREZ HILTON, of all people. Talk about prejudicial. Who screwed up and made that jackass a judge?

  17. Pufft says:

Uhm, I think that I believe that she lost because she, her family, you know, aren’t articulate enough. No offense to her or her family, it’s just the way it sounded….

    And world peace!

  18. Erin says:

oh man. give nc some credit. they look almost identical, and she didn’t screw up her question. no brainer.

  19. Priscilla says:

Her answer was straightforward and honest. She was ahead in all of the other judging categories before she committed the unpardonable sin of telling the truth and supporting traditional marriage, after being confronted with the question by a small-minded gay bigot.

Yeah, I think that’s why she lost.

  20. ash says:

Man that head shot is scary.

  21. Shannon says:

Oh come on, beauty pageant contestants aren’t supposed to give their real opinion anyways! They’re supposed to stick to world peace, cancer cures, and feeding starving orphans, end of story.

As Perez said, the problem WASN’T her opinion on gay marriage – she should have left it at “states should decide”. She wouldn’t have needed to state her personal opinion on the matter, and everyone would have been satisfied.

it was also offensive that she claimed “everyone can choose”. UM, NO HONEY. Gay people in the vast majority of states CANNOT CHOOSE to be married.

  22. cakes says:

Anyone else notice her crazy eyes in the header pic?

Anyway, I disagree with her but that was a loaded question. There was no way that she was gonna get the right answer.

  23. vicsmith says:

They all gave fairly inarticulate answers. I think she got a little flustered because she had to choose between lying to please the judges and telling the truth to be true to her beliefs. Not an easy split second decision to make. And yes, it cost her
    the crown.

  24. Patrice says:

Good for her for speaking her mind on stage and afterwards! I was so proud when Carrie stood up there and mustered the courage to answer notorious “Queen” of all media Perez Hilton’s irrelevant question. Not everyone in the worlsd has to be liberal and “pro-gay” everything, and I think it was highly innapropriate to include such a question in a beauty pagent anyway. What a shame that this woman is being publicly ostrasized for saying something so harmless. It seems that certain “commuities” will use ANY platform they can to push thier agendas, and anyone who doesn’t agree (no matter how civily) will practically be deemed a Nazi.

  25. MB says:

Thank you, Priscilla. Did anyone hear the Perez Hilton interview in which he spews venom about anti-gay fascism and calls Miss SC a dumb bitch? All because she gave an honest answer instead of saying what he wanted to hear. What a douche. I used to think he was funny, until he got “famous” and began to think he’s some kind of a big cheese celebrity.

  26. Patrice says:

dude wtf, and Priscilla: I could not agree with you both more!

  27. IvyMades says:

    @ Priscella:

Her answer was straightforward and honest. She was ahead in all of the other judging categories before she committed the unpardonable sin of telling the truth and supporting traditional marriage, after being confronted with the question by a small-minded gay bigot.

Yeah, I think that’s why she lost.

    ——–

Word. It wasn’t a true or false question. It was an OPINION question. She had every right to state her opinion. It’s unfair that she was penalized for it.

  28. Dingles says:

Just because you “stick with your beliefs” does not mean you’re right. Holding fast to beliefs based on ignorance and bigotry is nothing to be proud of, and I’m glad she didn’t win. She does not represent MY America.

  29. j. ferber says:

Who better to judge a beauty pageant than a gay man? Perez did ask a relevant, though controversial, question. Miss Cali responded with mangled syntax, grammar and logic. Also, hon, California is not a country. Perez also was involved in another fracas during his short time in Nevada. Criss Angel, during his Believe show, screamed obscene insults at Perez, causing another mini-scandal. I say Perez should move to Vegas just to stir things up. He’s so good at it.

  30. Patrice says:

Dingles: “Just because you “stick with your beliefs” does not mean you’re right. Holding fast to beliefs based on ignorance and bigotry is nothing to be proud of, and I’m glad she didn’t win. She does not represent MY America.”

Ummm, isn’t your ENTIRE post bigoted towards conservative folks who hold traditional values? I’m so sick of liberal, wholier than thou hatemongers like yourself. You might want to look in the mirror my friend. Is “your” America a place where people who disagree with your point of view are peanlized? Apparantly so.

  31. Roma says:

Has anyone heard that she’s dating Michael Phelps?

  32. boomchakaboom says:

Gays aren’t doing themselves any favors here. I was very much pro-gay marriage rights until I started noticing how viciously people are attacked if they DON’T agree with it. Many people refuse to be browbeaten into accepting something they aren’t entirely comfortable with for whatever reason – in fact, MOST people feel that way. If you need people to vote for your rights, it’s a good idea to get them on your side instead of throwing HISSY FITS and throwing knives at them.

  33. Ryo says:

Sorry but there ARE some issues where only one answer is the RIGHT one. If she’d said black people were dirty, nobody would agree with that because it’s just plain racist, but people use the guise of religion to make it okay to be homophobic.

I’m not worried though – the day will come when people look back and wonder how anyone could be so ignorant about homosexuality.

And boomchakaboom – I’d rather deal with angry gay people than self-righteous religious ones any day. At least gay people can be reasoned with.

  34. poopoo says:

Imagine that. A person who is religious and believes Marriage is between a man and a woman. Perez Hilton is what is wrong with this world. He hates people who disagree with his personal opinions.
Civil Unions yes. Marriages in a church no. Get over it Perez. Political correctness is something that must be stopped. Boycott his site.

  35. Sal V says:

While I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, She obviously lost the crown due to the fact that her statement was not well thought out and incoherent.
My opinion on the gay-marriage issue is irrelevant to the subject matter. Why do people get so offended by two women or two men getting married? By them getting married, are they hurting anyone? Emotionally, physically, mentally….. I mean I really don’t get it, Why would someone go out of their way to create such negativity to an issue that is already seen in everyday life in this world’s society. Would the world collapse if gays said a couple of vows and started wearing rings to show everyone their love for another human being?

  36. eternalcanadian says:

She forgot why she was there. Miss USA is representative of the USA. Like a politican she has to realize that 25% of the population is GLBT and to spout off saying only a man and a woman are privileged enough to get the honour of marriage is basically ensuring you’re going to lose.

I wonder what her views are about inter-racial marriage, or people from different religions getting married, or people with disabilities getting married? Once upon a time, it was illegal and/or “against the moral fabric of society” for such marriages to happen in the USA.

Oh, oh, I wonder if she forgot that women weren’t even allowed to vote until like 1920! 😉

  37. Sudini says:

She shouldn’t have even gotten runner up. There’s absolutely nothing pretty about bigotry or small mindedness.

  38. gg says:

Sorry, but though I disagree with her opinion, that’s all it was — a young girl’s opinion. I have my own opinion; am I not allowed to that? After all it’s just a stupid beauty pageant – not a political convention. She has plenty of time to change her mind after more life experience. As it was at the time, would you instead wish for these girls to learn to lie and cow away from every tough question, like a politician??? I’d rather hear what they actually think, than put them in training to be a Yes-man, and somebody who doesn’t think for themselves.

When was the last time any of us had to stand on a stage with zillions of people watching and answer an unexpected, polarizing, unknown question like that? Yeah, I didn’t think so!

Spewing hate and venom are not going to change anybody’s mind. This is true for both sides of the argument.

And I agree with flourpot and boomchakaboom, why in HELL is a complete ragmoron like Perez Hilton in any sort of judge’s position?? Who in hell thought this was a good idea???? He’s a bitter, pissy queen on a good day. I refuse to go to his obnoxious site. Even Phil Spector would’ve made a better judge! rotfl

  39. not_a_strawman says:

    @ eternalcanadi:

She forgot why she was there. Miss USA is representative of the USA. Like a politican she has to realize that 25% of the population is GLBT and to spout off saying only a man and a woman are privileged enough to get the honour of marriage is basically ensuring you’re going to lose.

    ——–

Where did you get that statistic??

  40. boomchakaboom says:

Ryo: Angry, gay people are also self-righteous and exhibit ignorance, bigotry, and intolerance.

If you despise anyone who doesn’t agree with you: that’s intolerance.

You describe anyone who doesn’t jump on your personal bandwagon as a bigot AND ignorant: that’s self-righteous, intolerant, and small minded.

Yeah, I’d rather spend time in a room full of honest people I don’t agree with than a room full of Perez Hiltons.

  41. Annie says:

Oh pish posh. She did NOT lose the crown because of her “Anti-gay” statements.

She lost because she deserved to lose.

I hate when people start making wild accusations instead of just losing gracefully.

Bow out gracefully (I’m not even expecting her to apologize or anything, just STFU) and stop embarrassing my state!

  42. HashBrowns says:

Amen, Annie. I am a fellow Californian and really, I just want her to STFU and go away. She’s supposed to be a graceful swan aka beauty queen and all she can do is bitch and moan about how her “opinion” lost her the crown.

No it didn’t, dummy. Your 3rd grade speaking level did. And now you’re trying to get some more of your 15 minutes by being “righteous” about your beliefs. BS. Total BS.

If she felt that giving her opinion was the right thing to do, she wouldn’t think that it cost her the win. Period.

And really, for the last time, California is not a country. Although we would make a totally awesome country.

  43. Annie says:

    An amazing country!! LOL

We actually have enough resources in our agricultural unit alone to feed the entire United States. We’re a self-sustaining economy in and of ourselves. LOL

Btw. Just watched Perez on CNN and I gotta say, his response was pretty decent. He fully admitted to calling her a B. But he was like “Hey, you know what? I respect her for having convictions” Miss CA came out saying she would pray for him, which is pretty annoying and he responded pretty well, and I mean, well in general, not well for Perez lol. He said “I’d say, let’s go to church together, let’s pray together or we can go for coffee” lol.

  44. Zoe (The Other One) says:

    Ryo and Dingles – word.

  45. Patrice says:

Ryo and eternalcanac: As someone who is African American, I (and MANY others) find it INCREDIBLY offensive whenever liberals throw out the “well if they were black…” card in defense of gay marriage. Being black and being gay are not the same and they certainaly aren’t interchangable. Stop using us as your scapregoates for your own biggoted defense. Doing so, in fact is exactly what makes YOU biggoted. Enough.

  46. blackberry says:

    Patrice! Priscilla! My girls!

  47. Annie says:

I agree that it’s not the same to an extent, I think ultimately, all oppressed people have common ground. Eternalcanada makes an excellent point about the banning of interracial marriages. The fact of the matter is, insular minorities are being deprived of rights and gay marriage is no different than the banning of interracial marriage. I mean, people act as if this wasn’t something that was fought for not too long ago. Loving v. Virginia was 1967. So from 1776-1967 (Longer I’m sure, but I’ve decided to use the date of our declaration for clarity in defining “country”), interracial couples were thrown into jail, ostracized etc and all LEGALLY. Let’s do the math here, so for about 191 years, this shit was going on.

And yet, how quickly you forget. Now it’s ok, so who cares about the deprivation of another group’s right to marry, I have mine. How is that not the same thing? You cannot control the color of your skin any more than they can control the people they’re attracted to. It’s not a choice. I don’t think someone wakes up one day and goes “You know what? I’m sick of being treated as a human being, I’m gonna “go gay” so that I can have less rights, have people beat me up in school and deprive me of my right to live, yea, that sounds like a fabulous idea”.

BTW: It’s not about “scapegoats” and you’re an idiot for saying so. A scapegoat is someone who takes the blame for another. Please learn to use a dictionary before throwing words around.

In this case, they’re aligning interests. If you think about it, the plight of all oppressed minorities is something that can be furthered by coming together and uniting against bigotry and discrimination as one unstoppable force. But no, we allow ourselves to break off and we separate and we refuse to look at the grander picture.
    —-
Also, I’d like to note that apparently, Miss California came out and said that was going to “pray” for Perez Hilton. WTF?

  48. Wow says:

Who said she has to agree with those who feel gay and lesbians should be married? She has a right to forming her own opinions as much as those who are of the opinion that gay and lesbians couples should be allowed to be married.

I can’t stand the “pack like” mentality of anyone who feels a person should think the way the majority thinks or else they are wrong. Its silly.

The guy asked her a question and she answered it. If he wasn’t prepared for that type of response then he should have asked another question. Or better yet, the judges spoke by not voting her to the crown of Miss. USA. End of story. You can disagre with people’s opinions without resorting to getting ridiculously ugly in the way Perez has been going on and on about it.

  49. OXA says:

Everyone should be entitled to the same rights. This is not about religion but equality and civil rights. If Perez wants to wear a long white dress and get married in a church, he should have the same rights AND benefits as you and I. Anything else is discrimination.

  50. Annie says:

Again, I have to defend perez. I mean on his blog, he’s a total ____, it’s what his blog has always been like, but in interviews, he’s been very diplomatic but still true to the Perez we know.

Personally, I can’t stand reading his blog, but it’s his personal vent box. Whereas national television isn’t. And he’s performed pretty well at that level in regards to his responses to hers.

(I cannot believe I’m defending him. LOL)

  51. lizzie says:

I feel that she could have had her own opinion on her own time. Miss USA is representing Americans and Americans are different races, sexes and have different sexual preferences. So for her to go on and say she was being true to her beliefs and doesn’t care if it was not politically correct then how could she represent all Americans. After this she would have gone to Miss Universe how was she then going to represent mankind if she is only about her beliefs rather than respecting everyones and representing tolerance in difference regardless of personal opinion?

  52. IvyMades says:

    ——————-

    Word!!
As an african american I find this very annoying. The two experiences are NOT analogous.

There aren’t any gay Jim Crow laws. Gay people have the ability to blend in. If gays get married in a state that doesn’t legalize gay marriage they aren’t thrown into jail!

For example the feminist movement is more analogous, as it allows recognition of the vast scope of privilege amongst members of the GLBT community according to class, genders, and race. However, the feminist movement is not a perfect analogy either. Very different struggles between the two groups.

  53. ChristinaT says:

no i think she lost the crown because she can barely be distinguished from an orange…

  54. Annie says:

IvyMades. Please be so kind as to read my response to Patrice.

And I will say the same towards you and add that the worst thing to do is to play a game of “Who had it worst” and instead, realize that there’s COMMON GROUND.

Plus, Patrice not only spelled “scapegoat” incorrectly, she used it wrong too. Throwing out words with more than one syllable doesn’t necessarily make your argument more legitimate if you don’t use them correctly. Just saying.

  55. IvyMades says:

    @ Annie:

And I will say the same towards you and add that the worst thing to do is to play a game of “Who had it worst” and instead, realize that there’s COMMON GROUND.

    ————–

I read you’re response to her earlier. While I agree with the sentiment of common ground, the idea of “we’re all in this together” only comes up when votes are needed. What about the rest of the year? Being gay doesn’t mean you can’t be racist or sexist. And often times many gay white people forget that there also gay people of color.

  56. Brad says:

I think she is gorgeous.. it doesn´t matter if she has lots of make up..there are women that aren´t able to be cute even with it.. the question was inapropriate for a beauty contest, and the guy who asked it could never be there..What a joke….

  57. Ana says:

The winner was better. Mrs. California’s dress was horrible. As soon as I saw the winner I knew it would be her. She was classic. But I have to admit her answer wasn’t that great. Not as bad as Miss Arizona (horrible!) and not as controversal as Miss California.
That picture up top creeps me out.
Oh and I can’t remmeber which state the winner was from. All the hoopla is over Miss California and her poor response.

  58. Ana says:

Oh and if she really wanted the crown the answer would have been well thought rather than the answer she gave (regardless of her views the answer was just plan bad.)

  59. boomchakaboom says:

    IvyMades; Well said!

Women as a whole were the last group to gain the right to vote, to own property, to not be considered chattel as a married person. The movement for women’s rights was under the umbrella of the larger Civil Rights movement, as were the minorities nd disabled, before women (of all race and sexual orientation) were allowed by law to earn equal pay and positions in management.

The same Civil Rights movement allowed high school girls (of all races & sexual orientation) to be eligible for athletic scholarships and to take classes in trades that had only been offered to male students.

There is a world of difference between gays wanting legal recognition as married partners and the bigger groups that were affected by the Civil Rights Act. Gays aren’t being denied the right to vote, own property, have positions of authority, earn equal pay, or live where ever they want eat eat in whatever restaurants they want. The right to marry benefits only gays, not society as a whole.

  60. Danielle says:

Sudini, did you hear that? That was the sound of your mind snapping shut because you lack the ability to accept that other people have different opinions. Just sayin’.

  61. megan says:

I think it’s right to stand up for your opinion and beliefs, but do it in a smarter way, in her shoes, I’d say to opposite, even though I wuoldn’t have though it, just for the crown, I’m sorry…I’m maybe not really etically correct, but I’m not hypocrite…

  62. ash says:

Her opinion was asked, she gave it. It isn’t “right or wrong”. Such a question shouldn’t have been asked, because either way, it would have been controversial. Perez loses.
While I don’t agree with her either, this is still being blown way out of the spectrum.

  63. america1 says:

The Miss USA pageant by putting that question into the hands of “Perez Hilton”? and letting him aim it at a young girl who they knew beforehand was a devout christian instantly gave the pageant the legitimacy of a rolex spelled with two l’s.Future contestants be advised, political correctness not honesty is whats wanted.Hilton shouldn’t throw stones when his own credibility is questionable!!

Oh so because it was worse for us minority women, we shouldn’t be supportive of another group’s quest for equality?

And you know, you’re absolutely right. And gay white males need to realize, just like we do, that our plights are similar. We’re all guilty of it, and now let’s make a change for the better.

Pfft. I’m a minority woman, I understand what you’re all saying. I’m not speaking from the perspective of a gay white male or what-have you, but that of a straight, minority woman who is conscious of the fact that these events need to be tied together because of the bigger picture. You infringe upon one set of people’s rights, you infringe upon all others. Where does it end? Oh, it’s ok because there aren’t any Gay Jim Crow Laws? They’re still getting treated as lesser citizens, the severity isn’t an issue. *shakes head*

What did she mean by “in my country”? If that refers to some nation other than the US she should have been eliminated from the competition for that. She is entitled to an opinion, but she did not state it coherently or gracefully.
