Anne Hathaway wore leather pants to her baby shower, got quite a gift haul

Is it just me or has Anne Hathaway had a really low-key pregnancy? She hasn’t been in our faces at all. I like it. Judging from the size of Anne’s bump at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, she’s due soon. Like, this month. So it’s no surprise that she finally did her big baby shower. I forgot that you guys seem to enjoy talking about baby showers and how there are all these rules about showers. Like, apparently it’s pretty gauche for a woman to have a big baby shower for her second or third child? I also think it’s a little bit gauche for a rich, successful actress to accept a ton of gifts at her baby shower, but whatever. It’s not like I have a dog in this hunt. Anyway, Us Weekly has some details about Annie’s baby shower, held at her manager’s house.

A glowing Anne Hathaway celebrated her pregnancy with a baby shower on Saturday, March 5, at her manager’s home in West Hollywood. The Intern actress, who is expecting first child with her husband, Adam Shulman, in May, draped her growing bump in a silk V-neck and skintight leather pants. She accessorized her ensemble with a Valentino satchel.

“Anne was one of the first people to arrive,” a source tells Us Weekly. “She looked relaxed and happy to be there.”

Although the Oscar winner, 33, has not publicly revealed the gender of her little one, Matthew McConaughey’s wife, Camila Alves, showed up carrying a pink gift basket stamped with the Initial “G!”

“The colors of the presents were mostly neutral, with the exception of Camila’s,” says the source. Other gifts included a rocking horse, baby blankets, a bassinet and clothes from Barneys and children’s boutique Trico Field.

“There was a lot of chatter and laughter throughout the afternoon,” the source notes of the casual backyard luncheon. “Many times there was giggling and clapping because all of the ladies were having so much fun.”

The cheering continued when Shulman, 34, and a few of Hathaway’s family members made a special appearance at 3 p.m.

“They seemed excited to get inside the party,” says the insider. “At the end of the shower, they helped pack up all the gifts.”

While the couple await the arrival of their baby, Shulman is “helping Anne shop a lot for the baby,” another insider close to Hathaway revealed to Us. “They’ve been ordering a bunch online too. They are as happy as clams.”

I honestly didn’t know Anne was tight with Camila Alves. Anne and Matthew McConaughey have worked together, and I always got the impression that they didn’t like each other very much. But I’m always surprised by the strange bedfellows in Hollywood, and I guess the Hollywood Mommy crowd is pretty insular. It also sounds like this baby shower was mostly for Anne’s work friends, right? I mean, her family only came at the end of the shower.

As for Camila bringing a pink gift… do you think Anne’s really having a girl? I do. And I hope Baby Girl Hathaway-Shulman got a pair of skinny jeans, just like her daddy!

I’m pretty neutral on Anne, but hearing that she is wearing leather pants near the end of pregnancy makes me really like her.

Get on with ‘cho bad self, Annie!

  2. escondista says:

If I was a pregnant actress about to have my first baby, you better believe I’d throw a huge shower.
A shower is not just about getting baby swag, it’s about celebrating a special experience.
    Enjoy yourself, AnnE.

Yeah I don’t get the critique? Like you’re rich so you can’t have a party or accept gifts?? I mean, if her friends want to give her gifts, why not?? It’s only obnoxious if she had a gift registry where everything was super expensive. Otherwise… ? I love giving my family and friends nice gifts. The beauty of it is the sentiment behind it not the gift itself.

  3. minx says:

Pregnancy agrees with her, she looks pretty.

the Intern actress?? What kind of injustice to her

Ugh leather pants. All I can think of is how uncomfortable that is ala Ross on Friends! But if she can make it work, good for her?

Her face finally looks like it did before. Les Miz did her no favors. She lost all that weight and it only made her eyes and nose look bigger. I hope she keeps some weight on her after the baby comes.

What movie did Annie and Matthew do? I can’t think of it?

Rich woman has baby shower? Yuk

    • MB says:

      Huh?
So, successful people can’t have baby showers now? They suddenly aren’t allowed to celebrate an exciting time in their life because of their bank balance? Just curious, what do you consider the tipping point to be? Cash assets of $1m + or more? Less? Genuinely curious as to what point you think people have to give up these personal events due to their professional success.

    • Marianne says:

I get that they have the money to buy their own things, but people genuinely like buying presents for their friends anyway.

  7. Donna Martin says:

I think it’s ok to have a shower if rich, it’s a celebration and also sometimes people just want to throw one for you so if you are lucky to have one of those people do that for you enjoy!

    • Lex says:

Yeah it’s not really about ‘collecting presents’ – it’s just a celebration – you eat, you laugh, you swoon over tiny baby clothes. People bring gifts to show they’re happy for your baby’s impending arrival. The rich shouldn’t miss out!
I don’t think I would do a ‘baby shower’- like all females, crappy games etc.
A family friend just had a big barbeque, everyone welcome, music, casual etc. No gauche present opening or ‘guess the baby food’ torture

    • Lucky says:

Agreed. And most likely many of the guests are also wealthy and can afford some onesies for a pal 😉

  8. SM says:

I only saw Matthew and Ann at the Norton Graham show together while promoting Interstellar. I went away with an impression that Matthey was annoyed by Ann. That however does not rule out her being friends with his wife

  9. OTHER RENEE says:

I’m sure the guests were wealthy too, and the fun is in finding something special as a baby gift and giving it to the expectant mother. Then as the expectant mother, the fun is seeing what your friends picked out for you. Just because someone is wealthy doesn’t mean they shouldn’t enjoy that whole thing.

  10. Marianne says:

Oooooh lets guess what “G” name she might have chose? Gia? Georgiana? Gabrielle? or maybe something more off the rocker like Givenchy? 😛
