Zayn Malik possibly had his album name tattooed on his face: meh or WTF?

Like I Would

Last year, Zayn Malik, broke hearts by stepping away from One Direction to pursue his own music. On March 25th, his eagerly anticipated solo album is set to drop. Zayn may be more excited than anyone and to show it, he went big. To commemorate the occasion, Zayn posted a photo with a new tattoo – on his face. M.O.M. supposedly stands for the name of his album, Mind Of Me. Zayn is said to have spent several months on the design. Whether or not you are a fan, one notable critic is well-known tattoo artist, Kevin Paul, whose famous clientele list include fellow 1Der Harry Styles:

Zayn Malik stunned fans when he unveiled his brand new face tattoo on Friday. And tattoo artist to the stars Kevin Paul has now criticised the former One Direction singer’s latest inking for both its placement and quality. Kevin – whose celebrity clients include Ed Sheeran and Zayn’s former bandmate Harry Styles – isn’t a fan of the 23-year-old singer’s daring new body art, a floral design bearing the letters ‘M.O.M’, no doubt referencing his debut solo album, Mind Of Mine.

The talented tattoo artist told the Mirror: ‘The placement is really bad, considering he doesn’t have any other tattoos on his head. I think he’ll end up regretting it and it would be hard to cover up without making the new design a lot bigger and darker.’

Kevin went on to suggest Zayn should have the inking lasered off, which he estimated would cost £600.

Although Zayn, who boasts over 40 tattoos, reportedly spent months planning the artwork, Kevin believes he will live to regret it.

‘Out of everyone in One Direction, Zayn had the best tattoos, but this is not one of them’, the ink master concluded.

Does he plan to print all of his albums on his face? I get that tattoos are personal but I am having trouble with the decision making process here; is this hubris or unbridled enthusiasm? Zayn captioned the Instagram shot with “Like I Would,” the title of his third track to be released from M.O.M. This led many people to wonder if this tattoo is real or a stunt to promote the album (fingers crossed).

Speaking of Like I Would; whereas some applaud him for venturing into a different sound, others felt the song was a bit too familiar, decrying that it is simple a rip-off of 1D’s I Would in both lyrics and tune. However, Zayn sent a tweet crediting new girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, as his inspiration for the song. In the tweet he said, “saw your face and got inspired,” followed by a series of emojis that people like me have trouble figuring out.

I wish Zayn success with his first effort, especially if that tattoo is permanent; M.O.M. will need to go double platinum to justify that.

I have a tattoo but it isn’t visible for others to see. Personal……this kid should have thought it out more. I remember a comedian years ago telling the story of when his young bride got a rosebud tattoo on her breast. Years later he said, that rosebud was now a long-stemmed rose! Some of the things you think are so important at 20, will become a what the hell was I thinking by the time you’re 25.

  2. NewWester says:

He is lucky that he has lots of money to fall back on if his solo career does not take off. Tattoos can be great but there are not many employers who would hire someone with a tattoo on their face. Wonder what possessed Zayn to do that?

  3. Catwoman says:

Not a fan of tattoos in general, but on the face seems especially regrettable. When this fad goes out of style (and it will) I think there will be a lot of decisions second guessed.

    • Jay says:

Are face tattoos “in style?” Or were you referring to tattoos in general as a fad? Hate to break it to you, but many tattoo lovers view them as a form of art and self expression, and that NEVER goes out of style.

      • Rosie says:

Tattoos are far more popular among the 25 and under crowd today then they were a mere decade ago, so they could easily be this generations biggest fad, only time will tell. Even if you like tattoos, putting them on your face seems like a bad idea, it’s easy to change your clothes, but not your face tatoos.

  4. Alex says:

Yea the tat is terrible. He has a lot of good ink but this is easily the worst.
Anyways his album cover is a rip off of Lil Wayne’s cover for sure.
And I have zero stake in his career. He’s just not interesting enough…Pillowtalk was ok

  5. Div says:

If it’s real, it’s going to look even stranger if he grows his hair back out because half of it will be covered up. Anyway, bad, bad idea imo. I’m not against tattoos, but face tattoos don’t hold up well, can never really be hidden, etc.

  6. Lex says:

I really liked his first single Pillow Talk, but his latest song does sound like why one direction put out, but with a more R&B sound, which would be fine except he made this big deal saying one direction was stifling him creatively. His relationship with GiGi annoys me. They’re both attractive people, nap I get why they’re together, but they’re too public. This time last year he was still engaged, and now he’s dedicating songs to his new gf? Ugh.

  7. Miss M says:

Methinks, it is a bad idea, if permanent. No record-breaking Justifies such stupid idea…

  8. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    Ugh.

  9. lisa2 says:

I don’t follow these people.. but I love Pillow Talk..

    nothing else to add

  10. Sixer says:

I don’t understand emojis either, Hecate. You are not alone. I’m so gauche at the interwebz that I still use CAPITAL CASE. I have decided that I, and I alone, should reclaim CAPITAL CASE. Emojis are low rent and there is no power on Earth that can tell me otherwise.

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

I use the poop emoji for everything, Sixer. Everything! Poop emoji for life! I just really hate when people text you emojis & you’re supposed to figure out what they’re talking about. I’m not fluent in Emoji language, so damn text me what you want or I’ll ignore it.

Oh as for the tattoo, yeah that’s going in the pile of regrets for him if it’s real which I’m hoping is not.

      • Sixer says:

I will allow you the poop emoji. I feel this is the equivalent to my IRL pronouncing that anything not meeting with my full approval “smells of cats’ wee”.

      • AngelaH says:

Next time you get a text of emojis, just text back a bunch of random ones.

        Australia, fried egg, firetruck? Huh?

        Exactly.

  11. Karen says:

It looks like it’s behind his hairline. So grow it out and not a problem.

  12. nicole says:

I don’t think it’s real. Like I Would seems to be a play on words, his song name and the obvious “like I would do this”. It’s super ugly and his face is pretty and he obviously knows that. I’ve already thought about this too much for the morning!

  13. Adrien says:

He forgot to clean his ear.

  14. EscapedConvent says:

Oh my God I just saw his arms.

  15. Philo talk says:

He seems like a bit of a dill.

  16. Kitten says:

The only reason why I know this person’s name is because he’s so pretty. I’m shallow like that.

  17. Hannah says:

He’s so pretty I hope that isn’t a permanent tattoo, why mess with that beautiful face?

  18. me says:

It’s not really ON his face, it’s to the side. Once he grows his hair back the tattoo will be covered. Either way tats are addicting I’ve heard. You can’t get just one.

  19. jessie says:

I don’t think this is real…a good artist would shave that hair at the top and bottom, not try to tattoo into it.

  20. Miffy says:

Well he sure is enthusiastic about his new album… Just like when Lady Gaga tattooed ‘Art Pop’ on herself. (awkward silence) *cough* Yeeeah. Solid idea.

  21. Marine says:

As a fan of one direction (I’m 31) I much prefer the song “I would” I try but I can’t get behind any of his songs…there’s only so much of his voice I can take, I guess? But that doesn’t matter, plenty of people will buy his album and support him

  22. LENA NOT DUNHAM says:

hes selling just becasue people find him super attractive,i know i can see it,i can see that he is very good looking ,gorgeous, pretty for a boy,may be mixed up genes create super beautiful human beings but i can only go that far,i mean dont care for his songs but try modelling or acting.

  23. DesertReal says:

Um…its mostly (if not entirely) in his hair line. So…Nope. Not quite sure what the big deal is here.
