Taylor Swift & Calvin Harris posted pics from their tropical vacay: cute or try-hard?

❤️

A photo posted by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on

Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris (real name: Adam Wiles) have been together for more than a year. And what a year it’s been! They’ve managed to stay together through two bustling careers, her 1989 Tour, massive public controversies and more. I’m almost positive that this has been Taylor’s longest and most significant serious relationship. I also think going more than a year with a lady is a new thing for Calvin Harris – most of his previous relationships usually last 8 months at most, something like that.

So, Tay-Tay and Calvin (Adam) are in love. And now that Taylor’s tour is done, they decided to go on a real vacation together. A tropical-paradise vacation. And of course they had to post the photos from the vacation, because after #RelationshipGoals and #SquadGoals, we need some #VacationGoals. I don’t know, you guys… I think this is kind of cute? I mean, I rolled my eyes that they felt the need to document their vacay on social media, but I’m not complaining either. They really like/love each other. And it’s sort of sweet.

You can see more photos at Taylor’s Instagram here and Calvin’s Instagram here. He seems to favor photographing Taylor with some kind of butt angle. It’s cute, I’m telling you.

This is my favorite, this video. Taylor’s “are you watching? WATCH!!” is so funny, then she screws it up completely and Calvin laughs at her… it’s amazing.

That time when we finally took a vacation. @calvinharris

Aw love is in the air. #trynottobreathe. #imjustjealous

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

I feel bad for Karlie Kloss or Lorde who have to take the pictures of them. I did like the video, it’s kinda funny. There’s just something about him, he gives me douchey vibes.

      • Daria Morgendorffer says:

Totally agree and I really don’t buy them as a couple. He went from making remarks about how un-sexy she was and how opposite of his taste she is, to suddenly being madly in love. It just seems so contrived to me.

  2. Patricia says:

Oh my god she will always be a twelve year old. The writing in the sand, the “popped” foot while kissing, it’s just so juvenile.

    • Mgsota says:

I’m 40 and I always draw initials in the sand…then take a picture of it…lol.

Can’t say I’ve ever done the popped foot while kissing though.

      • Eleonor says:

I’ve done it for joke 😀
It all started with him (at the airport) saying “I am the hero who’s returning home”, so I had to act like a proper girlfriend.
I still do it, when I go to a station to greet him when he comes home from a travel.
        And I am 35 LOL .

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

I live on a beach and people do this ALL the time, of all ages. Trust me, you aren’t alone 😉

    • Gardenia says:

Aw, sure, it’s cheesy, but I think it’s cute. I don’t know why, but I think Taylor is starting to grow on me. I did not expect that to happen.

    • FingerBinger says:

It would have been funny if he did the pooped foot.

      • Esther says:

i dont think he is kinky like that.

      • Abby_J says:

We have a picture hanging up in our house of my husband doing that when I met him as he returned from one of his deployments. Big ship in the background, men in uniform (including him), and everything. My Mom was taking pictures, so he was being goofy. It is hysterical.

    • Algernon says:

Does anybody actually do that naturally while kissing? The foot thing, I mean.

      • It'sJustBlanche says:

I’m going to be honest: I do it without meaning to. But I think it’s because I didn’t really short.

    • JenniferJustice says:

      The foot….I just can’t. #sighs#

    • tigerlily says:

That’s not love in the air-it is the smell of over ripe fromage!

  3. Little Darling says:

Okay I kind of loved it when she came up and said, “It hurt a lot.” That was cute and real.

  4. Fallon says:

Her hair is really just… not good. Not that I have perfect hair, by any means! But I also don’t have access to a professional team to color, cut and style me when needed.

    • Crumpet says:

I think it looks awesome. Tousled and cute. What do find objectionable about it?

      • Fallon says:

The drab non-color, the cut, the length, the bangs – pretty much everything about it. I loved her naturally curly hair, so maybe I’m just hanging onto the past, but I don’t think this current style does anything for her.

      • QQ says:

Same for me Fallon, Like everything about a multimillionaire girl that young with that access with that HAIR, deeply deeply offends me and this comes as someone who also despised the Angel Curls with the straight bang deal… she just has bad hair on purpose, is almost like a calculated move to bring her into relatableland LOL

      • Locke Lamora says:

I love her hair. The colour, the cut, I love it.

    • It'sJustBlanche says:

She has fine, then hair. I don’t know that there’s much you can do with it. It probably looks the best it can look.

      • are we all gonna act like Taylor didnt have the golden thick wavey long curly locks of Olympus…. she had awesome hair (i say this as a POC who can appreciate all hair types 🙂 ) and she caved in to the pop star industry factory look and fried and TRIED her hair ….. lops it off …razor thins it and straightens (probably white people relaxed it) and colors it this mousy joni mitchell blond…and just ewww mom catty katy office boss hair…. like why taylor…. i for one loved her thick princess country girl curls

  5. Div says:

Maybe I’m a cynical, cold-hearted person….but I just went “meh.” The cheesy kissing pose made me cringe a little and I sort of like Taylor. They do look happy together though.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

I think I’d rather look at pics of Taylor and Calvin than thirsty ass Gwen Stefani lately though. She is just coming across as super desperate. At least Taylor is young enough to still have an excuse for the TMI loved up couple photo sessions.

    • Liv says:

I’m always defending her, but why does she post that many pictures of her personal life? Ugh, pathetic. They make a great couple though and seem in love, good for her.

      • Wiffie says:

She’s a… Person? Everyone has a personal life. She is posting literally what 98% of what people on instagram post….

Is she a robot? Is this a business account? I’m confused as to why a person shouldn’t post personal pics.

And define personal pics? Not on the clock? Ones of herself? Her life?

What SHOULD she post that would be appropriate?

      • Liv says:

If I were her I would protect my private life. She’s a well known singer, they are both famous. I’m surprised that they’re both flaunting their relationship that much. A picture of a beach or the video of her jumping of that thing would have been enough in my opinion. I mean I visit gossipsites, I’m glad she’s that open because it’s interesting, but I wouldn’t make my private life that public.

      • JenniferJustice says:

But she said she was going to be private with this relationship. I haven’t seen any attempt at privacy on her part. And since she’s done all fo this with half a dozen other guys, it isn’t special in any way. Just more nauseating over-sharing and over-exposure. That’s going to come back on her in a bad way.

      • Sas says:

They are quite private though. I think for example from September till December (about 3 months) not a single picture was released and no candids of them together either.

  6. InvaderTak says:

I’d rather see pics of people working on things. Maybe I’m bitter and stuck at work today. Oh well. Have a good time y’all. Maybe I’ll be able to afford a topical vacation one day.

    • Portugal the Stan says:

You CAN afford a tropical vacation. I go once or twice EVERY year. The Mexican riviera and Dominican are usually more affordable than domestic vacations AND are Southwest Airlines destinations. Get a Southwest credit card, collect points fast and airfare is free. Do some research. Tropical vacations (all inclusive) are within reach for most of the population. I’m solidly middle class and can afford it.

  7. D says:

That video is the only time i’ve been able to relate to Taylor Swift , I looked just as clumsy jumping on one of those water trampolines haha (and my bf also laughed at me). I kinda like Taylor and Calvin together, I don’t really think they will last though. But they’ll both probably top the charts with their breakup songs…

  8. Lex says:

I like Taylor’s music, but I’m sorry, this is so try hard. Everything seemed so perfectly planned, even the video. And every time I see them together, I think about how Taylor said in an interview before they dated, that she was going to be private with her next relationship and protect it all cost. I miss old Taylor, before she became obsessed with fame.

And those solo bikini shots…it’s crazy how hard she tries to be sexy but it just isn’t happening.

    • Erica_V says:

I think the solo bikini shots of her by him are hella sexy her body is incredible – so to each their own right?

      • Lex says:

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, as am I. But honest question, and I mean this is all sincerity, how do you find that picture sexy? It’s so posed! And I mean that with poses that all models do. It’s try hard and stiff. I find people sexy when they’re being themselves. When they’re not afraid to laugh at themselves. Not when they’re doing something they think should be sexy. *shrugs*

  9. Esther says:

its of course incredibly staged but thats Taylor. im actually sad for her and wonder if she will ever have genuine emotions and people in her life. she will never be able to reclaim her privacy after posts like this.

lets not forget that Selena is now #1 celeb on instagram, so her “bestie” had to upstage her a day later…

ps: did the massage stories about Calvin just go away?

    • Chicken says:

Taylor has a gazillion dollars and is hanging out on a beautiful after a massively successful work project. She can be annoying, sure, but I don’t think we need to be sad for ol’ Tay Tay. Pretty sure she’s doing just fine.

  10. Eleonor says:

I am so jelous of this vacation….

    • Kitten says:

OMG me too. I NEED to be there RIGHTNOW.

      • Eleonor says:

Here it’s cold, this morning when I got out to go to work it was raining and the sky is grey, so yes I want to be there so badly…in the perfectly photogenic Swifty warm postcard life.

    • Tifygodess says:

Yeah I am too. She’s not my favorite at all but i’ll take this vacation cheesy photos and all!

      • QQ says:

OMG me too, doesnt help im high at the office listening to M83 while watching these pics, it felt very warm and glowy and like i’d kill things just to be there a week with my bf!

    • littlemissnaughty says:

God, YES. It looks dreamy. I don’t even mind the cheese factor. Plus, on a superficial note, she looks great in that bikini. I would … not look like that. LOL

  11. Sara says:

How did people prove how in love they were before instagram? I’m not on FB, or instagram, but my friends who are spend their life complaining about selfies and showing off 🙂

  12. TJ says:

So cute!! Nice to see something positive for once. Anyone who says ‘eh’ or ‘tries too hard’ is just being mean. They would trade places with her in one second if they could!

  13. Tiffany says:

Taylor and Adam try hard. Nooooo. Not those two.

  14. Mrs. Darcy says:

It’s cute until you think that they must have set the kiss pick up on a timer/tri-pod, unless they were on holiday with her squad. How many attempts did it take to get the perfect shot? I guess it’s just modern life, but the faux inherent in so much of Instagram weirds me out, not only celebs, but normal people, staging pretty postcard shots in every stage of a day/a holiday/a life, rather than just living in the moment. I guess it’s why I can’t get into it at all.

The video at least captures a real moment (albeit by accident). I want to jump on a giant trampoline in the sea, looks fun!

    • kb says:

I am young and of that generation that takes post card pretty photos. It takes me all of 2 minutes to set one up, snap the pick, and post it. The rest of the time I am living. One can do both. I’ve honestly never met anyone that spends more than a few minutes on it. Not being argumentative. Just stating my take on it and experience.

      • PrincessMe says:

Yep. I’m not really on social media, but I take sooo many pictures (I just don’t post them). This is normal for a lot of people – take pic, post… carry on. It’s no big deal, really. People have different comfort levels regarding what they share, and it’s not a one size fits all situation.

      • Mrs. Darcy says:

I take a lot of pictures too, and don’t post most of them. @PrincessMe I don’t disagree with you, I wasn’t saying taking pictures isn’t normal, just staging everything “just so”. I grew up with photo albums full of imperfect pictures, the occasional thumb obscuring part of an otherwise nice picture, a sepia toned slightly overexposed shot, became part of the memory of the picture itself.

It is just a different way of capturing life now I guess, now we add the Nashville or other faux glow in filters. I do think there is value in mistakes, in not showing only the perfect moment, because sometimes a memory isn’t truly captured in filtering out the shot where a couple of people are goofing off or staring into the distance or whatever. Sometimes “mistakes” are what keep an actual memory alive.

  15. Mabel says:

Very cute couple. I hope it lasts. I like their playfulness and don’t mind all the instagrams they post. They are so harmless and really seem to be into each other and their relationship. Good for them!

  16. ReineDidon says:

She looks genuinely happy and in love. He always looks like doing the minimum possible. Even when she’s au naturel there still is something extremely cold and staged about her. Also, even in a bikini I can’t find her sexy !

  17. Maria says:

    This is actually cute!

  18. Gardenia says:

I’m happy for them. I hope it lasts. On an unrelated note, damn, I wish I had her figure.

  19. Annika says:

    Such beautiful pics!
I don’t mind that they’re posting vacay pics. I love when people share travel pics, gives me ideas for my bucket list.
I’m not a big social media person but I’ve been blowing up Instagram lately LOL …..we’re at Lake Tahoe for a week & I’m constantly snapping & uploading. Mostly b/c I wanna share w/ friends & family how gorgeous it is here.

  20. Leah says:

This is more thirsty than cute too me.

“I also think going more than a year with a lady is a new thing for Calvin Harris”

No, Calvin had a long term girlfriend before. A non famous one back in the day before his hollywood make over, when he was “only” a pop star in the UK.

  21. Phaedra Rose says:

How can anyone dislike her? She seems like a total sweetheart to me.
And damn she is beautiful in these photos.

  22. lucy2 says:

Looks like a fun trip, and I can see wanting to take photos and share them with friends, but to be famous and put it all online? No thanks.
Did they actually go away just the two of them, or is there someone else with them taking photos for them?

    • Liv says:

      +1

And that’s the ongoing question with celebritys…do they have staff traveling around with them to take pictures of them? Or a bodyguard? 😉

      • JD says:

Bodyguards. Taylor and Lorde had beach pics taken of them a few years ago, and they admitted that the bodyguards were the ones taking the pics.

  23. Sam says:

I thought she said she was going to go away so people don’t get sick of her. This is literally the opposite of doing that. Besides I cannot with celebrity couples who do this. In fact I cannot with any couple who does this. It’s not the posting of the pictures but it’s the way they’re posted. Like they legit posted 5 or 6 pictures all at the same time together. And for what? To prove that you’re in love and oh so happy? It’s like they hit their one year anniversary and suddenly they want everyone to see just how “relationship goals” they are. Sorry they don’t do it for me.
Maybe it’s me but I absolutely adore those celeb couples who are private because then when you do see them you can tell how genuinely in love they are. Like Ashton and Mila or Blake and Ryan. Taylor and Adam…it just doesn’t seem genuine. Like even that kissing photo is cringeworthy. It just all seems so forced. Not natural.

  24. Alex says:

Everything is cute except for that movie kiss which screams try hard. But I’m not mad at the vacation photos…they’ve kept their relationships pretty under wraps which is probably why its working

  25. Jess says:

For those saying that posting on social media is try hard or something, isn’t it standard PR counter paparazzi stuff? Arrive at destination, have some shots taken and release them. This cuts the value of any shots taken and sold by a paparazzi by mayber 80%. So it is not worth the while of most of them to bother

  26. Algernon says:

What is the purpose of changing your name from “Adam Wiles” to “Calvin Harris?” That’s like if Peter Davidson decided his stage name would be Tom Henry.

  27. Ari says:

Everyone documents their vacation on some kind of social media these days so why wouldn’t they? These are cute.

  28. Marty says:

    Same dry toast, different day.

  29. kri says:

Wow! wherever that is I want to be there-looks gorgeous and peaceful. Sigh. I just looked out my window and it’s gray and rainy and I hear sirens. Also, apparently New Cat is an aspiring interior decorator, as it appears he threw up on a throw pillow. Screw you guys on tropical trampoline. So jealous.

  30. Rockin Robin says:

    I’m happy for them.

  31. ell says:

ok. i don’t get why couples do that, why would anyone care for their private holidays.

  32. Cynthia says:

This is actually kind of cute, but the initials on the sand are too much even for my cheesy ass. Most couples nowadays share vacation pics on social media, so why not?

    • Magnoliarose says:

For me it was the leg plus initials. But the jumping did make me smile. Look at meeeeee! My daughter does that. Mommy are you looking. Mommy watch. Looook at meeeee mommmeeeeee!! She’ll even make it a song.
Tay is not my thing but this looked fun. Shrug.

  33. word says:

I think she might have found “the one”. Good for her. She was on a very lengthy tour and deserves a vacation. She is part of the “social media” generation and has millions of fans that probably love it when she posts pics like this.

  34. kibbles says:

    Waiting for the epic break-up.

  35. JD says:

Taylor’s body looks amazing in those bikinis. Girl is incredibly sexy, no doubt about it. She could easily be a Victoria’s Secret model just like half of her girl squad.

    • Cynthia says:

She’s beautiful and statuesque but she looks so asexual to me? I often forget that she has a sexy image on stage and in videos like other popstars because she doesn’t really give the sexy vibe, but probably it’s just me.

  36. Tiffany says:

I finally see the breastfeeding enhancement that was discussed before.

  37. Boo says:

Some have made an actual career out of bashing Taylor Swift for her lack of being able to ‘keep’ a boyfriend. In lieu of that well known info, I can see why she unabashedly posted these photos.

In her favour, these are fun normal couple type photos and a short video. No problem with it here. The rest of her photo stream is not dominated by her boyfriend or relationship with him. It’s a nice mix of her life.

I grew up in heyday or Prince and Madonna. I was not into casual sex. I would have given ANYTHING for someone like Taylor Swift during my teen years as a young girl. It was a hyper oversexed time which culminated in the AIDS world epidemic.

I’m happy to see Taylor Swift earn, accept and wear her crown of accomplishment. Madonna (far far far less talented and a really bad role model) was allowed to, I fail to see how Taylor Swift is hurting anyone or anything with what she’s doing. Even if some of is fake, it promotes a far more interesting and caring lifestyle than what we had in the 80s.

  38. Liesl says:

Not a Swifty, but am seriously curious how Kim K got more defenders for posting a nude “validate me” pic than this stuff. Isn’t it “social shaming” or “love policing” to tell Taylor how real or fake her love is and how much she can post about it? We have all the love and tolerance for modern love but cheesy or old-fashioned love gets a lot of ridicule. Let that girl pop her leg if she’s so smitten. Do I think it’s a little much? Yes, but I’m old and think social media as a whole is harming our society, especially our youth. Privacy is underrated, propriety is undervalued and work ethic has been replaced by self-made celebrity. But puppy love? Old as time.

  39. Nimbolicious says:

Looks staged. I think she prefers girls anyway. Don’t ask me why; just a hunch.

  40. iheartgossip says:

    Beyond try hard

  41. Veronica says:

It’s ridiculously twee, but…whatever, good for her for finding a guy who doesn’t mind playing the fame game with her – and behind her, at that. Have fun, Tay-Tay.
