Gal Gadot in Balmain at the ‘Batman v Superman’ premiere: budget or cute?

wenn23662139

Here are some photos from last night’s giant Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice premiere in NYC. After all of the money spent (well over $400 million-plus), all of the time, all of the effort, all of the extensive reshoots, all of Zack Snyder’s endless lens flares, do you think this movie is even going to be watchable? I don’t even know. What I do know is that the studio is not spreading around extra cash to make sure that their female stars are fashion powerhouses.

Gal Gadot wore this Balmain minidress which… I’m really not feeling for the big Gotham premiere, you know? I’m not saying she had to wear a ball gown, but maybe don’t treat this premiere like it’s a Fast & Furious premiere, I guess. Plus, I genuinely don’t like the dress. I think Gal is so pretty, and the styling does nothing for her.

Amy Adams wore Tom Ford, in what I kind of assume was a custom-made piece. I like this gown a lot, and it does feel appropriate for the venue, dark and slinky and Gotham-y. I also feel like it’s something Lois Lane would pick out. Right? Incidentally, Amy and Henry Cavill had a really cute interview in this weekend’s Parade Mag about how Superman and Lois are for real, and they’re a real couple with real problems and a real love – go here to read. Amy thinks Superman is into giving footrubs to Lois.

Diane Lane… this dress would have been cute at a day-time event, but I’m not feeling it for this premiere.

Henry Cavill did not bring his 19-year-old girlfriend to the premiere, which surprises me a little bit. Ben Affleck also seemed to be going stag, and the Batfleck’s face… well… something is going on with him. Yikes.

Bonus photo of Holly Hunter, who plays a senator in the film. I would do anything for Holly. I love seeing her. I wish she didn’t have to do stupid comic-book movies.

They all look like wax figures to me. As for Henry…his girl friend didn’t get her permission slip signed in time so she couldn’t go on this field trip to his premiere.

    • Insomniac says:

LOL! And I love that first group shot. Could those people possibly look any less excited?

    • Alex says:

      lololol @Sam
and yea Gal looks out of place in that group shot (did her publicist miss the memo?) and they all look THRILLED to be there

    • Alarmjaguar says:

Exactly what I was thinking. Not a single smile, anybody?

  2. lower-case deb says:

Diane Lane’s dress pattern looks like two crotch-level hypno-eyes.

  3. kri says:

She looks like a Kardashian, but not nearly as trashy (is anyone?) .Amy and Holly look great. The Blockhead Boys look smarmy and smug.

    • diana says:

They all look so sad in the first picture. Weird.
I LOVE Amy Adams and she deserves better.
I see the kardashian similarity. I’ve been following her career for several years now it it makes me sad that this is the wonder woman they’re giving us.

  4. Samtha says:

Batfleck has some extreme contouring going on to hide the bloat.

    • Tate says:

Is that what it is? My first thought was that he does not look nearly as bloated as he usually does.

      • Hudson Girl says:

He always looks weird to me on the red carpets, even going back to his younger JLo days.
For me, it’s always been the makeup (which everyone wears, even the men). I really dislike his makeup application or the color tone they use on him is wrong? It’s something with the makeup.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

        He lost some weight also

      • Samtha says:

Yeah, the color is orangey–it looks like the same base Gal’s using.

Henry’s makeup is pretty obvious too, if you look at it.

    • INeedANap says:

Idk I feel like it’s possible he’s had some subtle work done. A mini eye lift maybe? Or some serious drag queen-level contouring.

  5. InvaderTak says:

They all look stiff. And BA and HC need better suits. Are the Marvel boys going to be out soon? They at least look comfortable.

    • Sam says:

In about 6 weeks or so because this year it’s super hero movie after super hero movie. But yes you’re right. At least the Marvel boys embrace their roles and look like they want to be there. Ben and Henry look like they’re there because it’s part of their contract and nothing more, which is why I hope the movie bombs but unfortunately it’s actually getting a positive reaction.

      • InvaderTak says:

Finally. I try not to be that person that has some need for their celebs to be friends and love each other and whatever but come on. At least look like you want to be there.

    • Sam says:

I 100% agree. Like when Deadpool was coming out Ryan Reynolds was fully embraced in that role and you could tell he wanted to be Deadpool which is why I think it was so so so successful. He even had a cute interaction on Twitter with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr about Civil War despite the fact that they’re two different studios. It would just be nice to see people who are actually invested in the role rather than people who look like they’re there because they want people to say “You’re Batman!!” Or “You’re Superman!!!”

  6. lilacflowers says:

Sorry, Gal, but those silver shield wings or whatever they are look like giant underarm stains.

And Diane, love you, but that dress looks like you put a target on your lady parts.

And Holly’s dress looks like a torn spider web.

    • V4Real says:

      Ben looks good here.

I actually like Gal’s dress. She has the body for it but maybe a darker color would have been better. I disagree that she should have worn a gown like Amy. It’s a comic book movie premier, not the Oscars.

  7. CharlotteCharlotte says:

She looks very Kardashian Jenner younger sisters to me.

    Amy’s boobs look great.

    Love Holly and Diane.

Ben looks slightly less creepy to me here. Which is still hella creepy.

    • Embee says:

I came to say the same: Amy’s boobs and Holly’s arms are amazing! Gorgeous ladies.

I love Diane Lane but this dress does her no justice.

I like Gal Gadot but this dress is difficult o pull off. I feel like she COULD have but chose not to and thus it fails.

    • Kate says:

I came here to say the same thing. Amy Adams beautiful rack continues to impress.
And you know they are real bc they tend to get bigger when she gains a little weight like real boobs do. But whether she’s super skinny like in American Hustle or a little curvier here…that rack holds up.

Oh and I read that amazing essay that Amy Adams wrote on Lois and Clark in the newspaper and it legit made me want to watch “Lois and Clark” from the 90’s all over again. Lois and Clark forever. The only pop culture couple (outside of maybe Han and Leia) that I will Stan until I’m 80.

  8. SusanneToo says:

Holly Hunter for the win-fashion, styling, everything. (And probably the best part of the movie.)

  9. Jayna says:

I watched the live stream on the red carpet with the host interviewing the stars when they came over plus having three adult superfan geeks on a screen filming from their homes watching and asking questions of the stars.

Ben was good and answered a lot of questions from the superfans and the host. But Amy Adams was fantastic. She looked absolutely amazing as she was standing there talking. Her hair was divine and her dress from all angles fit like a glove. I loved her. She was a blast and so complimentary of her co-stars, praising how hot Gal looked that night, when to me Amy was the hot one. And she really swoons over Henry Cavill. That’s all I can say. She loves that guy. And I have to admit that Henry live was better than his always stiff poses in still photos. He was very talkative about the movie and good with the question from the superfan. And that guy does look amazing in a suit. And the hostess mentioned before he came over he was running late coming over because he spent so much time with the fans.

All in all, they all seemed to be having a blast on the red carpet and in great spirits, although the posed photos don’t reflect that, and doesn’t reflect the energy of the red carpet and excitement you can hear with all the fans lined up to see all the actors at the premiere.

    • Kate says:

@Jayna, I totally agree. The pics do not reflect how happy they all were to be there. I agree with you that Henry came off really well last night. Really grateful and polite. And I agree about Amy. She was clearly so, so happy to be there. Did you see her husband showed up with a Superman shirt under his suit? LOL. Come on, that’s adorable. And she was joking to the reporters about how Lois gets sex in the movie and how she thought that was awesome. She was wonderful last night.

      • Jayna says:

@Kate, I missed that with Amy’s husband, the t-shirt. I love he did that, though. But I literally fell in love with Amy last night at the premiere. She was so adorable and funny, and I loved all of her cheeky remarks about her character.

I agree. She was wonderful and absolutely stunning.

  10. Maya says:

£400 millions for one movie? Where are the magazine covers talking about how big a flop and mess this movie could be?

There was a hit out for WWZ with Brad Pitt when the budget reached 180.

No hit piece on this one then? Typical double standard going on.

  11. Izzy says:

If I had lrgs like Gal’s, I’d show them off too. Maybe not in that particular dress, but still. Also, I find it hilarious the way she is leaning AWAY from Batfleck in the group photo, like she doesn’t want his stank on her or to be confused for a nanny or something.

  12. ShinyGrenade says:

That dress is mighty fug. And she is skinny, without much of muscle definition. Not saying that you cannot be strong and bad-arse while being slim, not at all, but remember Lupita amazing arms?

And Henry Cavill was so charming in the boring Man? Men? from UNCLE, it’s a shame to see him so bland and waxy here.

    • Jayna says:

In the interview on the red carpet, which I watched the livestream, he was very charming. Don’t go by a posed photo. And he was really interacting with the fans longer than anybody.

You would think in a pose they could all crack a smile. I guess not. LOL

  13. Merritt says:

Gal’s dress is hideous. There is nothing good about that dress.

  14. LAK says:

Henry Cavill looks so much better when he isn’t bulked up.

He also looks more relaxed here than his first MOS carpet where he was so tense and robotic on the red carpet.

  15. The Original Mia says:

    So tacky. Those wings are…unfortunate.

Amy & Holly look good. DIdn’t really mind Diane’s dress until the boots. No, Diane, no.

Ben looks freshly botoxed. Henry looks good. As LAK said, less bulk looks good on him.

    • Jayna says:

I can’t figure out what is going on with Ben’s face. Even though it is thinner, less doughy than months ago, it’s still different. The botox has made his eyes weird, I think.

  16. Prettykrazee says:

All I can see when I look at Gal is how white her hands and feet are. Did she wear gloves and socks when getting her spray tan?

  17. Ivaninha says:

‘I wish she didn’t have to do stupid comic-book movies.’ Really? I kind of like comic-book movies…and not all of them are stupid.

  18. Kate says:

I don’t dislike Gal’s dress but it feels like the wrong venue. This was a black tie event at Radio City music hall, you know? I think she is really pretty but I can never shake that she still approaches everything like a model and not like an actress. And I just can’t get over how skinny she is.

Amy Adams looks pretty fab here. She’s got a very “Nicole Kidman in Batman Forever” thing going on and I’m feeling it. Her boobs are great. Plus, she looks so happy to be there. She’s clearly enjoying this. I get the sense that this was a nice set to be on and I imagine Amy appreciated that after the hell that was the American Hustle set. This must have felt like going home with lots of nice people. And yeah, Amy really likes Henry and he likes her which, I admit, endears me to him a bit even after his douchey interviews bc if Amy Adams likes you that much you can’t be a terrible person, right?

    • PennyLane says:

Amy Adams pulled off a twofer here – she looks absolutely gorgeous in that outfit, plus it was sartorially perfect for the event. Strong work on both fronts!

Gal Gadot looks really, really thin in that dress. I still can’t imagine how someone so twig-like is going to convincingly play Wonder Woman, but I guess we’ll find out.

  19. Kaye says:

I never realized what beady little eyes Ben Affleck has.

And I agree with ShinyGrenade – Man from UNCLE was a really good movie. Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer were excellent.

  20. QQ says:

WOW tons of “personality” in that cast Pic LMMFAO it looks like a charisma vacuum of Forced together people

  21. Harryg says:

I still don’t understand this movie, and I don’t want to.

  22. Jayna says:

Comments are coming in from fans who got to see SvB at the premiere. Reviews can’t come out until tomorrow sometime, I think.

But the reactions to the movie are overall great.

    • Jayna says:

Oh, and Wonder Woman is almost universally being praised as a highlight to the movie. So it appears Gal Gadot was a great choice. And Gal did gain weight for the movie and a lot of muscle weight. They really put her on a workout regimen for the movie. So she isn’t as thin in the movie as she is now.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

One of my neighbor is the movie journalist of the biggest newspaper in Belgium. Last week,he interviewed the casting at LA then he came back in Belgium without to watch the movie. He will watch the movie this Tuesday at Paris whereas the movie is released the Wednesday
He doesn’t buy the ” over-great” reviews of the fans because if the studio was sure of the movie, they would show it to the journalists in first .

      • Jayna says:

Critics have seen it. I assume many at the pre-screenings and maybe at the premiere Sunday? I don’t know the particulars on that. The embargo for releasing their reviews is lifted at 6 p.m. tomorrow, so the critic reviews will start coming in tomorrow. In America, it comes out on Thursday.

I agree as far as fan’s remarks can be overeffusive. But many fans were down on the movie for over a year because of Zack Snyder directing it and because of other things. So fans can be very critical and have been while awaiting this movie and watching the trailers and casting and the director. So to see so many positive tweets is a good thing.

The entertainment reporter for these types of movies for Entertainment Weekly who saw it in a pre-screening gave his thoughts on the movie (not a formal review or spoilers) and really liked it. He’s pretty well respected.

He also said those that did not like Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel at all might not like the movie as much as he did or that don’t like it dark, and that it could be a divisive movie in that sense for the fans.

I think the positive tweets just to me state at the least it’s a solid movie. I have high hopes, because I like Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal as Wonder Woman and think Ben will be a great Batman. I think the Argo writer who was brought on to work on the script will fill in those areas that Zack Snyder is weak in.

  23. redviper says:

Why shouldn’t Holly Hunter make comic-book movies? I don’t think they’re stupid at all, after seeing it i think it’s the best one since The Dark Knight. Better and more action-packed than the Marvel ones.
