Was it 20 years ago when Mike Tyson was finally found guilty of assaulting a woman, and served two years in Pendleton? At that time, reading an interview with him, he seemed to literally be a predatory animal. A nurse who worked with him while he was in prison told me that he was always polite and a gentleman when she dealt with him, unlike most of his fellow inmates. I am amazed by how articulate he is now, and by the wisdom of his hard earned insights. He has become a genuine role model. I really respect the man he has become.

Some one mention his former trainer, Cus D’Amato. He was more than just a trainer. Cus actually adopted Mike Tyson to get him out of a half way house. Cus was the first, and arguably the only, person in Mike Tyson’s life to care for him and actually set real boundaries for him. To go from a caring father figure like Cus to Don King, add in that his childhood was completely brutal, is it any wonder that he completely imploded as a person? Add in the fact that he was paid to basically trade blows to the head with other people, my god, it would be more surprising if Tyson was normal instead of f-ed up. This is not to justify his actions in the least, but my god, if anyone is the product of his environment, its Mike Tyson. And unlike many people that have done far worse, Mike Tyson has served his time. And not to sound cliche but he does sound like he has matured and benefited from leaving the ring and the boxing life style.
