Henry Cavill on 19-year-old Tara King: ‘She protects me & is protective of me’

FFN_FLYNETUK_BAT_V_SUPERMAN_3222016_52002656

Henry Cavill has a 19-year-old college freshman girlfriend named Tara King. They met last fall, and he’s been openly dating her ever since. She misses school all the time to accompany Henry to various events, and he hasn’t been shy about posing with her on red carpets and at various events. Just this week, Tara was one of his dates at the London premiere of Batman v. Superman. Henry has been talking about her in interviews too, justifying their relationship with a shrug and “I was going out with a 32-year-old when I was 19 too” basically. Well, Henry was asked about Tara again while he was being interviewed by the Daily Mirror. And his answers… well, you can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

On Tara King: “She protects me and is protective of me when I am having a hard time. She’s there when I need looking after and the world is a little too heavy. Then she will happily take that weight for me and make sure that I am OK.”

How she treats him: “Tara allows me to be me and she doesn’t have a problem with that. She treats me like a normal human being.”

Proving his a real actor: “I need to prove I am a serious actor by playing roles that show that. But there are still people who I won’t win over and will always call me just a pretty face.”

He loves to pamper himself: “I tend to treat myself rather luxuriously and I will disappear for two weeks on a private yacht. That is when I truly relax… enjoying the wonderment of being on a private snazzy yacht and getting to swim in the sea every morning.”

The James Bond rumors: “If Bond were to come about, it’s a role I would relish playing.”

[From The Daily Mirror]

“She protects me and is protective of me when I am having a hard time…” If this was a sentiment about a relationship of two equal partners, I would have no problem with it. Like, if Tom Hanks said this about Rita Wilson, I would find it sweet. But there is such an inherent inequality in Tara and Henry’s relationship, the whole idea of Tara-as-protector makes me feel sorry for her. It makes me think that he’s an immature man-child who dumps all of his bulls—t on his teenage girlfriend and expects her to have the emotional maturity to deal with it and take the weight off his shoulders. Did you have the emotional maturity to deal with a 32-year-old dude’s bulls—t when you were 19? I did not.

I’m sorry but he’s such an ass. Everything coming out of his mouth seems wrong. Also his comment about the yacht, rambling like nouveau rich… ugh. Maybe it’s because I’m french, but the way it talks about money rubs me the wrong way.

    • kai says:

Completely agree. It’s nice he’s not pretending that money doesn’t matter, but keep your yacht stories between yourself and your rich friends. At best, Cavil’s a dumbass. I don’t know why it’s so disappointing when pretty people turn out to be stupid/unkind. Like I expected them to be better?

    • Liv says:

I think his PR-team is messing it up. They set him up with Cuoco, which went horribly wrong, are probably now advising him to be with this girl and what to say about her to make him look good. Doesn’t work.

      • J.Mo says:

It sounds like he’s overcompensating to make it seem like she’s in charge and an old domestic soul or something, as if he couldn’t possibly be taking care of her because of her maturity.

  2. Tifygodess24 says:

The eye roll is so strong with this one.

  3. Jules says:

He sounds like a drama queen……………the more he speaks the less I like him…………

  4. Elisa the I. says:

Is she seriously only 19? I don’t see a big difference looking at the pics.
Well, at least they are a very attractive couple and look happy together.
When I was 19 I was already living in my own appartment and I was studying and earning money part-time. So it depends…

  5. Nancy says:

Yeah because most men over thirty need the comfort of a teenager. Seems ass backwards to me. If he had never opened his mouth or been seen on the staged coffee runs with that tv girl, I might believe he was a handsome heterosexual man. Oh go pamper yourself, take a nice bubble bath and relax. He just seems off to me, eccentric guy. Funny now he doesn’t even seem remotely attractive to me.

    • elle says:

I first saw him in The Tudors and remember thinking he was hot. Then came the Superman hoopla, wherein he revealed himself to be completely without charisma or wit. I’m rewatching Tudors now, and my lady boner is gone.

      • Liv says:

He’s theoretically a good idea, but I wish he would stop talking such crap in interviews. You can’t take him serious.

  6. Ginger Gal says:

Really? Superman needs a 19 year old to protect him?

    • kai says:

LOL. If you put it this way….

    • Ferdinand says:

No. Only when he’s hard. I mean, when he is having a hard time!

    • NUTBALLS says:

Yeah, he sounds like a man-child who wants a mother, not an equal partner.

      • antipodean says:

Ha, ha, Nutballs, I had a dear friend who used to say that all most men want are mummies, with bed sports. It used to make me laugh, but I think she was mostly right, and in this boob’s case is quite appropriate.

  7. Lama Bean says:

All of his quotes are what she does for him. He sounds like someone who doesn’t want a woman with her own mind, just one who waits on him hand and foot. She’s young (and likely star struck) and at that age you don’t really know yourself well. Hopefully once she matures she sees this isn’t a good match.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Exactly. He has the emotional maturity of a 12 year old. This explains a lot.

    • Kitten says:

Yup. Suddenly this relationship makes perfect sense.

      • Little Darling says:

Agreed. A 32 year old woman would laugh in his face at the idea of being the protector of a grown man. He needs looking after? Because the world is just a little too mean? GROW UP. Jeeze, talk about tortured thespian.

God, what a disappointment. He should have kept his mouth shut on all of that.

    • Eugenie says:

I read this and thought … well I guess he got rid of his emotional support dog and just replaced it with a 19 year old girl.

    • failfailfail says:

In fairness they did ask him “what qualities does she have?”

  8. anniefannie says:

The fit of the bodice on that dress is unfortunate. He sounds exhausting with the constant focus on himself and his “care”!?

  9. Esther says:

im so glad i am not a good looking tall wealthy famous straight white man. it sounds so unfair and terrible what he has to go through. luckily his barely legal girlfriend is there to protect him from this cruel world.

  10. Brin says:

    It’s a bird, it’s a plane….it’s Superwuss.

    • InvaderTak says:

      Zing!

    • Dlo says:

      You win!

    • Kate says:

      Internet. Won.

The more he talks the less I like him. He’s emotionally stunted and using a teenager as a crutch. At first I thought she was just a red carpet bunny but now I actually feel sorry for her. I hope she will wise up to his neediness and get out!
He’s insanely self focused and I wonder if she is just an interchangeable nanny for him

  11. Pinky says:

He sounds immature and facile with a distorted view on girls versus women and it’s getting creepy. What a weirdo.

    –TheRealPinky

  12. paolanqar says:

He is so obviously gay that I’m surprised he’s the only one who doesn’t know it yet.

    • Original T.C. says:

What is “obviously gay” about him? I’m honestly curious since I’m missing it. I have had many gay male friends growing up and nothing about this guy reminds me of any of them.

  13. Tiffany27 says:

Sis does not look 19. My Japanese grandmother (God rest her soul) always said “Be careful who you date, some men take away your pretty.” My grandmother was right. She was RIGHT.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

LMAO. Grandmothers always know their stuff.

    • Kiki says:

Aren’t grandmothers and great aunts the best. My great aunt also told me ” never date a man who is prettier than you”.

      • Hally says:

Some people can just suck the life/youth/beauty out of their partners, it is so true! But why does your aunt object to pretty men? I’ve heard that advice in the context that if he’s better looking then he will be more likely to cheat, but I have never found it to be true in real life. All the (male) cheaters I’ve met have been far less good looking than their partners.

    • Pinky says:

      Amazing.

      –TheRealPinky

    • kri says:

@Tiffany-that was an awesome quote from your grandma! The wrong guy can take away your pretty and a whole lot more than that. Henry is a blockhead.

    • coffeelover says:

You grandmother is correct. She needs to start using a great skin care line right now if she is going to stay with him and learn to smile or she is done . done, done for good.

    • elle says:

OMG…. your granny was right. My mind is racing with examples.

  14. Don't kill me I'm French says:

Henry, don’t talk about your girlfriend ! It is embarrassing for you and her (also)
Don’t talk about acting ! Don’t start a rumor about Bond role! Don’t talk about your great life of rich white guy because you sounds like a mega douche!

  15. Alex says:

Yet again can he PLEASE stop talking?! Each interview is worse and worse and more tone deaf

    • Little Darling says:

I said as much above. Such a massive disappointment every time he interviews. Such a stark contrast to playing a man with balls of steel when he presents himself as an overgrown immature man child. A spoiled one with a major lack of perspective as well.

  16. Ethelreda says:

You would think that the star of one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises would have the best PR team in the business. But it seems the opposite is true. With every interview, he seems more and more of a self-absorbed tosser. And we get it, Henry. You’ve got a GIRLFRIEND. A girlfriend who is a girl. A female. We heard you the first time. Really.

I used to think Cavill was the embodiment of beautiful but bland. Now he seems much worse than that. He seems positively unlikable. And not even that beautiful anymore.

    • Pinky says:

“And we get it, Henry. You’ve got a GIRLFRIEND. A girlfriend who is a girl. A female. We heard you the first time. Really.”

      Hahahahahahahahaha!
      *GASP*
      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

      –TheRealPinky

  17. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

…Jesus Christ can be please stop gushing about his barely legal girlfriend, it only gets consistently more gross.

Grow the hell up and stop needing a teenage piece of arm candy to be your mother and lover.

  18. Magnoliarose says:

I tried to give him a break for old times sake for when he was on The Tudors but he is insufferable. This is a man who has no grasp of PR or how to do an interview properly.
She protects him from….? Obviously not his stupid. His stupid is the third entity in this ridiculous relationship.
I don’t care about the ages because he’s emotionally 12.

  19. Kiki says:

Now I really don’t like this dude. This guy, arrogant, vain and most of all stupid. What is wrong with PR team. They don’t care as along as they are being paid. Now I may be attack by certain people who shows off a “significant other” by this guy is really rubbing me the wrong way
I may not like AV but I really, really don’t like HC.

  20. Yun says:

He is so bland to me. He’s the male Kendall Jenner. Eveything should add up to good-looking, but it just translates as 100% milled and sieved oatmeal.

  21. Mia4s says:

Were these comments supposed to be endearing or something? Yikes.

Who is his publicist? Does he have one? Does he ignore them? I don’t care what’s true, Superman talking about being “protected” by a 19 year old girl is a ridiculously bad talking point.

  22. Kate says:

    Henry’s mom is GORGEOUS.

    That’s all I have.

    • Jen43 says:

Yes. That is the only positive comment I can make. Every time he opens his mouth, it’s a complete sh**show.

  23. Jezza says:

    Really, Henry? Really?

  24. femputer says:

that dress makes her shoulders look about as wide as his.

  25. insertwittynamehere says:

Oh damn LOL! I nearly spit my pop on my keyboard! WTF is wrong with this guy? I’m sorry dude but if you need protecting from a 19 year old there is seriously something wrong with you. You do know the more you talk the bigger joke you look right? Or is that your goal? I heard that any publicity is good publicity but I’m not sure I’d want the type of attention you are currently surrounding yourself with. Stop acting like a pre pubescent little turd and grow the hell up.

  26. TotallyDissappointed says:

I love he says She Protects him. Right, when after a month she went to her friend and they wrote an article outing their relationship making her look like the celebrity. How her stupid little sister talks about screwing over hard working people and just hook up with a rich guy. Oh yes she’s protecting him. He has totally lost all respect for himself in my eyes. How he can be intimidated by a girl, GIRL, who just graduated HS two months prior is just plain pathetic. I truly feel sorry for him. He wants to be taken seriously, not just a pretty face. Well good luck because that’s all you are. Believe me when little miss prissy can’t get her Hermes bag she will find a rich new Arab who can and you will see her dust. Get your priorities straight before it’s too late Cavill. Your fans won’t be around forever.

  27. SM says:

Does he expect to prove that he is a serious actor by choosing to do movies like Superman vs. Batman? It’s just not going to happen and it has nothing to do with being objectified (it seems that it is what he is implying, that people only see him as pretty face).

  28. thaisajs says:

I really wonder how much of a career he’s going to have after the debacle of this Batman/Superman movie and his disastrous press tour. He sounds like an utter ass most of the time. And he’s just not that compelling on screen.

  29. elle says:

    Do we really believe she’s 19? I see 32.

    • Hally says:

This is honestly one rare case where if he defended himself by saying he thought she was older when they met I would believe him. Because she looks his age, and I hate to admit it but they look good together.

But I’m still side eyeing him, and if any dude his age came near my teen or college aged sisters or cousins they would need to watch out.

      • J.Mo says:

You should have been on his PR team. He really should have said that, they had fun and talked about many things but school and age didn’t come up until they were already in like.

  30. TreadStyle says:

Ahh if someone could make him never ever do another interview. He is so embarrassing. It’s awful.

  31. Jayna says:

It sounds to me like a typical narcissistic actor. Me, me, me.

  32. FormerFan232 says:

What an idiot. The more he talks, the more insane he sounds. Fire your PR team Henry because clearly they’re not doing you any favors. Dump the TEENAGER, find a real woman and pray she’s gonna put up with your shit.

  33. brian says:

Pulls out that Whoopi gif: You in danger, Girl. Tara, run. I know it seems exciting now that you get to be his wet blanket, but noooooo. Hes not worth it. I dont know what everyone sees in Henry. Hes not even that attractive when we get past the Golds Gym muscles and a subpar actor. Who clearly likes money, being spoiled, taken care of with his emotional baggage and a girlfriend who will wipe his ass while she gets no substantive benefits. Henry is a user. He may be nice, but hes tone deaf and selfish.
Worse for me… He does Christopher Reeves role no justice. Sorry.

  34. aquarius64 says:

Really, going out with someone who is barely legal by one year? Cavill’s PR team stinks, but I hope they have thoroughly vetted this person so it doesn’t come out that she’s underage. That would end Cavill.

  35. DesertReal says:

Shes probably possessive and controlling like 80% of insecure teenagers when faced with a semi serious relationship. He thinks it protective but in reality she could be manuvering herself to be indispensable. Its not a gender/age thing. Its an unbalanced emotionally dependent thing.

  36. Rasheeda says:

    This guy is so embarrassing.

What is he a virgin or something? Tara is cute but she’s a regular, blonde, teen college student (with no real career) and he’s showing out over her like she’s Halle Berry or something.

He’s acting like he’s never been with a woman before or maybe he couldn’t get this type of girl when he was younger and is now reliving his teens/early 20s.

I don’t know how you can be a rich, good looking white guy with a good career and STILL come off kind of pathetic but he manages to do it.

  37. LUCIA says:

LOL! She protects him? MOre like she protects herself from him getting anywhere near someone with a rational reasonable mind because she knows hes her money train. She is trying to act sympathetic to him so he will keep her around. I know this girl she went to Mahiki after getting heads up from her club friend Matt Smith to tell her if someone rich and famous was around. Unfortunately Henry was the dumb one to fall for it. Her friends and sister are quite enjoying all of this attention considering they comment on anything theyre on saying theyre famous. PATHETIC! HENRY GET A CLUE SHE DOESNT LOVE YOU!
