Madonna created her own ‘no parking zone’ in NYC & her neighbors are pissed

madonna1

One of the biggest first-world problems ever? Parking drama. It’s something that bugs me too, and I don’t even live in an urban area. But whenever I do have to pay for parking or pay attention to parking notices, it bums me out. But I still pay attention and I follow the rules, as I suspect most of you do too. But we’re not Madonna. We don’t get to make up our own parking rules as we go along. We also don’t own a $40 million Upper East Side townhouse with access to a private garage, accessible by city street. As it turns out, Madonna wanted to ensure that she would always have access to her private garage, so instead of asking the city for a special access point – which would have meant the city giving her a no-parking zone – Madonna simply did what she wanted. Madge had her own “no parking zone” signs made. She plastered them all over the city street. She even had the curb painted yellow!!!

Madonna’s people concocted a scheme to snag precious parking spots in front of her super expensive NYC apartment, and the authorities came down on them like a brick. Madonna — who lives in a $40 million Upper East Side townhouse — apparently wanted to claim some prime parking spaces … problem is, they were public spaces, not hers. So we’re told her people peppered the area with “Tenant Parking Only” signs. She also had someone emboss a “NO PARKING” warning curbside in cement. For bad measure, they painted the curb yellow.

One neighbor who smelled a rat contacted the city’s Dept. of Transportation. Someone from the agency paid a visit Wednesday and told Madonna’s people the signage had to be removed … stat. BTW, the neighbor tells TMZ, when she questioned a man standing outside Madonna’s pad next to 3 SUVs about putting these signs up, the man responded, “We know the right people.”

[From TMZ]

The Daily Mail sent out a photographer to document the problematic signage and the yellow curb – you can see the photos here. Since Madge is an obsessive Daily Mail reader (I’m not joking), she also posted this on her Instagram:

As I said, this is a first-world issue. But if I was Madonna’s neighbor… oh, I would so pissed off. Of course, it’s not dangerous, but it’s irritating and entitled and bitchy. If the city doesn’t want your garage entrance to be a no-parking zone, then it’s not a no-parking zone. End of story. And the lengths that she went to get her way? Actually painting a city curb yellow?!? Jesus.

If people were blocking my Garage ENTRANCE I would be pissed too! I actually think Madonna has a point here!

    • Esmom says:

I know. The story seems to say a couple different things, though. One that her entrance was blocked but two that they wanted a few free spaces next to it.

In Chicago if you park even an inch into a driveway or entrance, you’ll be slapped with a ticket in no time. I don’t know how people in NYC could get away with blocking an actual entrance.

    • swak says:

But again, there is a right way to get the entrance marked as no parking and there is a wrong way. Madonna did it the wrong way.

    • Elsie says:

Allegedly she had the garage built herself – without permission from the city. Thus, not her driveway. People are saying she bought the property, converted it into her own garage, and is now claiming the sidewalk as well.

If it’s true — that’s not how it works Madge. God, I cannot handle how entitled she is. If the garage was city-sanctioned, there would not be an issue of people parking in front of it in the first place.

      • Lisa says:

Madonna is in the right – this is ridiculous happens at my work all the time – people are so inconsiderate

      • Crimson says:

Elsie, you are correct. I worked for a city in So. California and there are specific approvals a person needs to make changes to a property. If Madonna built her own parking garage without the obtaining necessary city approvals, well, duh. She legally has no rights until the self-created issue is settled. Entitlement at it’s finest.

Oh, and I like the way she throws a few prayers in. Isn’t she just like a virgin? Lol. Poor, thing.

    • Sarah(too) says:

So you call the police and have them towed.

  2. anniefannie says:

I don’t get it?! She has a private garage entrance but cars can park in front of it? I kinda get that having access to her garage would seem fair and the city should post signs making it a no parking. I guess she took matters in her own hands rather having the city do it!?

    • Elisa the I. says:

      +1
It seems the city didn’t do anything about the no parking and she took matters in her own hands. I don’t blame her.

    • Fee says:

I don’t know what world she lives in but if u park in front of a garage, u will be towed or ticketed. People put signs on the garage saying no parking, but she wanted spaces up n down her garage. I don’t care who u are but it is unacceptable behavior. Especially since she could have gone through city hall for permits for extra parking like the test of us do. What gets me is her hail Mary comments, we know she doesn’t believe in Christianity , she mocks it at her concerts but it is easter, she could refrain from her zio beliefs

      • Crimson says:

Idk, I think Madonna really does have some Christian beliefs buried way deep inside her. She was raised Catholic in a strict Italian-American home in her formative years, and from a psychological standpoint that is hard to break free from. She lost her mother at 5 yrs. old and relied on her Catholic grandmother (who migrated from Italy) for guidance. She has referenced “prayers” too many times over the years for me to believe she totally changed her belief system. She was always a perfectionist, vying for attention from her father because she had five bio siblings all born very close together and attention was hard to come by. She relished control and perfection (straight A’s in school) because in her family life she didn’t always have it. She is very a complicated person. Unfortunately she has evolved into an egomaniacal b*tch.

  3. Carol says:

This story cracks me up! Seriously who paints the curb yellow? I get how it would be annoying to have people block your driveway, but to put fake no parking signs up? LOL!

  4. Scal says:

They aren’t blocking the entrance-she just wants more space for larger cars to get through , security, and basically just doesn’t want people parking in front of her house. You still can’t park in front of the garage entrance. That now everyone knows where it is because of her bs.

It’s a public street. You don’t get to just decide to claim it as your own.

    • Sarah says:

And she wonders why Rocco wants to live with his father. Maybe he just wants a vacation from the narcissistic drama that comes with being around his mother every day.

  5. chloe says:

I understand not blocking her garage exit, but if they are trying to create parking spaces on each side of the entrance they should be fined and have to pay to get the yellow paint removed. If you are going to pay 40 million for a place have your minions contact the city to get the garage exit properly marked, geez it’s pretty simple.

  6. lucy2 says:

I could see marking the space for one car to get through to her garage, that is unfair if people are blocking the entry. But anything beyond that is her just being awful and entitled.

  7. Carol says:

It says they threatened her with a $250 fine. Seriously?? Add some zeros if you want a deterrent.

  8. Jaded says:

    F*ck off Madonna.

  9. Catwoman says:

And she wonders why Rocco gtf away from her. She is deranged and delusional, for sure

  10. MsGoblin says:

Parking is such an ordeal here in NYC (says the woman who hasn’t owned a car since 1986), that no wonder her neighbors are up in arms. She tried to claim, not only the access point to her garage – which is understandable – but also the spaces directly in front of her townhouses.

But, Madonna, dear, if you need to insure the access to your garage is free of cars, go about it properly. And don’t hog the other spaces that are in the public domain.

Actually, she owns THREE townhouses and remodeled the inside so it is one big house. My hubby works in the area and the neighbors HATE her.

    • Pinky says:

Very interesting. Time to loiter outside Madge’s, just because we absolutely have a right to and therefore can.

Truth or Dare was on VH1 last night. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

  12. ZombieLover says:

Why can’t Madonna be in the news for some new awesome music…..please make some good music again so I can tolerate all the other stuff.

  13. Spike says:

Asshat move as usual. I despise this broad. Okay, raise your hand if you don’t believe that Madge’s security does not give a smack down to anyone who tries to block entrance/egress to the special snow flake’s garage. Someone with her fame definitely has security in front of the building.

Painting the yellow stripes pissed me off because you know that the empress of entitlement probably marks the entire NYC street block. That’s a basic street block, not Broadway or Fifth Avenue. In my experience (10 years ago) parking on the street in NYC (Boston, etc.) can have day/time restrictions. So you already experience the joy of the parking shuffle.

  14. NeoCleo says:

You don’t deface city property! I don’t care what her issue is. She should be made to pay a fine to return city property back to its original condition.

Man, I just have no USE for this woman.

  15. Skywayke says:

Seriously folks, this is a matter of her having a garage entrance and people parking along the street blocking it(not her wanting all the street parking to herself!). You can see in the photos where she painted it yellow, it is definitely a driveway….the curb, right at the planter gets taller. She wanted to draw attention to the fact that it’s a driveway…not a low curb. I don’t blame her…I probably would have thrown up signs as well and painted lines too.

    • underdog says:

Someone up thread said she never had permission from the city for her driveway, anyway. so since it’s an unpermitted driveway, she has no right to prevent people from parking in front of it.

    • Pepper says:

Right, but she created the garage and driveway without approval. The parking space is not her land, she has no right to try and stop people parking there because she’s a dumbass who didn’t get approval.

If I go out tomorrow, do a bit of landscaping, get some concrete laid down, and call it my driveway, that doesn’t mean I can just take over the parking space that was there! If it was as easy as just calling something your driveway, people would create gigantic ones so no one could park outside their property but them.

  16. Alldamnday says:

Oops. I need to check my glasses. I thought she painted the curb across from her entrance to give herself more room getting in and out.

  17. Susie 1of 3 says:

I read the article in the Daily Mail yesterday. It’s worth reading the whole thing to get the sense of entitlement shown.

“The pop icon’s people also had the words ‘No parking’ imprinted along the edge of the sidewalk, and painted the curb yellow.
The yellow paint job, curb imprint and the sign posted in the tree bed are all against city rules and subject to monetary fines, New York City DOT officials told Daily Mail Online.”

Another site spoke with neighbors who mentioned her employees stop traffic and clear the street before her car leaves the garage.
