George Clooney: Amal ‘looks great on the red carpet’ & she’s ‘doing great work’

wenn23484520

I just realized that a new George Clooney promotional tour will be upon us very soon. Does that make you happy? I do feel a certain schadenfreude about George’s promotional tours over the past few years, because he’s been more and more forthcoming about his wife and his marriage, and it’s just so NEW for him. He used to limit the conversations about his romantic life, but now that he’s married to Amal, it seems more like his film promotional tours are just tours to talk about Amal. It’s weird. So, George gave an early interview to Hello, and wouldn’t you know? He talks about his marriage rules and how many homes they have.

George Clooney revealed one very important marriage rule he shares with his gorgeous lawyer wife, Amal Alamuddin, and it’s sweet.

“We have a rule whereby we are never apart for more than a week,” the Money Monster star, 54, told Hello! of his wife, 38. “We also stay in touch via social media, so we try to keep close even if we’re in different parts of the world.”

Luckily, the power couple has numerous homes around the globe where they can catch up. “We have a place in London now where it’s easy for us to spend a lot of time together and I can work on new film projects — writing, reading scripts,” Clooney told the mag. “Or we can go to Lake Como or spend time in Los Angeles when I need to have meetings for my acting work, or hang around with some of my friends.”

“It takes some planning, but it’s actually been working out very well for us,” Clooney continued of his marriage to the renowned barrister. “She also looks great on the red carpet!”

“We have a very strong connection and she’s an extraordinary woman doing great work,” Clooney gushed to Hello. “We’re both committed and share a common concern for causes like the refugee crisis, but what really brings us together as a couple is the fact that we’re good friends and we enjoy each other’s company.”

[From Us Weekly]

These sound like quotes written by a publicist and fed to People Magazine, right? While I don’t doubt that they share many common interests, saying you love your wife because you “share a common concern for causes like the refugee crisis” seems strangely unemotional. But yeah, whatever. George wants you to know that he and Amal are still going strong. And Money Monster might even get a Cannes premiere, so we might even see Amal and George working the Cannes red carpet this year.

Update: In a weird turn of events, Clooney now says that he never gave Hello Mag this interview. Hello admits that they bought the interview from a third party, which makes me wonder if Clooney’s publicist really did create these quotes and the third party just attributed the quotes to Clooney.

Meanwhile, Amal stepped out in New York last night. She wore a mod sweater dress and “kinky boots.” She was fresh from getting her hair done by Serge Normant at John Frieda in Chelsea, according to Page Six. A witness said: “She was low-key and just had a Mercedes waiting outside for her.”

This is what George needed in a wife. Looks great on the red carpet AND someone with a job to brag about.

    • C says:

      100% right

    • noway says:

Wonder if he realizes how yucky that quote sounds. Smart eye candy. That’s a reason for a marriage.

    • bettyrose says:

And someone who was completely on board with being his intellectual arm candy/beard. He really won the lottery with Amal.

    • C says:

OMG, there’s a blind iten and I think it is about them.

      • marymoon says:

Dumping her for Julia … ha!
Guess we’ll see. His relationships never seem to make it past the two year mark anyway.

      • Christin says:

Is that item an April Fools Day joke?

I’ve never believed Julia’s marriage will make it past her kids becoming teens, though. Just an instinctive hunch. And we all know GC’s two-year trade-in history.

      • boredblond says:

BG has been known to run April fools items–but that’s always added at the end, for liability reasons I guess. Easy to do tale about these two because the background facts are solid

      • Christin says:

Interesting that they have a movie set for release in six weeks.

PR hype, perhaps? Neither probably wants or needs a flop.

    • Aiyanna says:

I really don’t think he is capable of anything deeper than that. The more he talks the more I feel sorry for him.

    • JenniferJustice says:

      So much yes to this!

And being associated with an intellectual makes him appear to be an intellectual himself and therefore hopefully taken more seriously, hence the “common interests” theme. He’s so obvious.

  2. MsGoblin says:

    She’s stunning.

  3. Locke Lamora says:

Eh, they kinda fit together. She’s very pretty, seems very smart. That’s all I’ve got, they’re not that interesting.
They’re not different from Brad and Angelina, or even lesser celebs like Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. They all use their personal life for PR.

  4. Zaytabogota says:

The greatest love story since TomKat, of course George needs to share all the personal details with every media outlet after years of complaining about press intrusion, when you are more bling than Kanye and Kim and believe you’re projecting Camelot, you have to sell it to the public as a brand. All business needs pr, otherwise the arrangement is pointless. The most convincing couple ever, don’t you think?

  5. sofie says:

Doing good work? What exactly has she done? She seems more interested in showcasing her designer wardrobe than doing anything of use for human rights! As for Clooney ? Everthing seems staged now from his marriage to concern for refugees in a five star hotel and all his lovey Dovey quotes. Not buying what he’s selling anymore!

    • raincoaster says:

Y’all need to google her. She’s one of the top human rights lawyers in the world, legit. I knew about her for her work with Julian Assange LONG before she started dating Clooney.

      • noway says:

Julian Assange makes her work legit in doing good work? Dude has millions of dollars and is accused of raping someone in another country and doesn’t want to be extradited to defend himself. Contrary to popular opinion, the US Justice Department hasn’t even filed any case against Assange for the wikileaks. Not saying she isn’t a good lawyer or barrister, but please this is not the case for doing good works, and what people normally think of as human rights works her resume is mighty thin.

      • Belle Epoch says:

        She’s not a lawyer.

  6. Fa says:

Why gives interviews when you are not promoting anything? 1 month before the movie open, is he that thirsty for attention?

  7. Esmom says:

The whole article reads like pre-fab quotes, blech. Which makes their whole relationship seem highly manufactured. She does look great in the red dress and boots, though.

    • swak says:

Don’t like the boots with the dress. Maybe an all black boot. But then again, I’m a t-hirt/yoga pants type person, so what do I know about fashion.

    • Loulou says:

Agreed. I think she looks amazing.

  8. Maya Memsaab says:

“We’re both committed and share a common concern for causes like the refugee crisis” sounds like a piece of dialogue from a Christopher Guest mockumentary.

  9. lilacflowers says:

They stay in touch through social media? So, they follow each other on Twitter? Why not pick up the phone and call one another?

    • Locke Lamora says:

      Probably Skype.

      • Lilacflowers says:

That would require an actual time commitment. I have an image of them just checking a Facebook page at random times throughout the week

    • Susan says:

You read my mind. Does Skype count as social media? I’m old (although not as old as George lol), but social media to me is IG, FB, Twitter, etc which is impersonal and for large group communication. I’d just call and text and skype?! I guess it’s just semantics.

      • lilacflowers says:

To me, Skype is outside social media. It’s one on one and not broadcast to a wide audience. It is like making a phone call.

    • Emmet says:

      @lilacflowers
the only thing I look for on a Hiddles story is your input
      don’t see you there today

      Are you feeling OK?
usually you don’t tune in on this “marriage”

anyway – always enjoy reading your comments and look forward to them

      • lilacflowers says:

Why, thank you, Emmet. I am feeling very well and I hope you are too. The TH story was posted while I was at the movies so I was late to it. This one about the Clooneys communicating to each other through publicly accessible media appeared while i was on the train.

        Have a lovely weekend.

    • mee says:

thought that was hilarious. i have the same relationship with both of them – keep in touch with them too through social media. leave love notes on their twitter and instagram feeds.

  10. Jen says:

I’m not denying he’s really tried to sell her to the media but these quotes sound fake. “Meetings for my acting work” and “it’s worked out very well…and she looks great on the red carpet!”?

    • Jayna says:

      Yeah, something is off here.

    • Ethelreda says:

Yup. Deffo sounds like a PR person scripted it for him. It’s like he’s mentally ticking off boxes in his head. Who speaks of their spouse that way? And didn’t he use to say they’d never be more than two weeks apart, and now it’s just one week?

      • noway says:

Let’s not forget we stay in touch through social media. Who talks like that?

      • Ethelreda says:

Nobody. It’s so fake. A bit like that story he told about getting down on one knee to propose – wasn’t very believable the first time, less so when he changed the details on a re-telling. Everything he says just makes me more and more convinced this is a PR relationship. You’d swear he was the first man to ever get married, and that she was the only well-dressed, educated women in the world.

      • Christin says:

Sounds exactly like PR supplied talking points he has memorized.

The social media comment is odd. Do they directly message each other via FB? Or do they each post photos of lunch (tequila, a single leaf of kale or whatever that would be) and tag each other?

“Mmmm… Wish you were here, buddy.”

    • raincoaster says:

Now Clooney is asserting that the entire interview was made up. And those quotes sound nothing like him.

If they DID make up this interview, they’re going to be destroyed in court. It’s not like he doesn’t have access to a good lawyer.

  11. failfailfail says:

“She was low-key and just had a Mercedes waiting outside for her.”

    Ahhaha.. ok.. sure..?

  12. Jenns says:

This sounds so weird. That’s not how a normal person talks.

And sorry, but how he describes Amal as being so “great”, he sounds like Trump.

  13. dippit says:

Sounds like Amal’s mother, Baria, has been writing the fan fiction again and directed her contract son-in-law through his line readings. You’d think if you invest in an actor for the family fame you’d get better delivery on the PR set-pieces.

Doesn’t he say somewhere in the interview about her accepting his proposal with a relishing ’emphatic “oh, oh yes”‘ which is somewhat at odds with the ever extending 25-35 minutes of proposal he’s presented in other installments of ‘Promote Amal – Not a Movie’ before.

Surely they keep storyboards for this ‘romance’ which he can use to at least stay on consistent anecdote and talking point (‘Amal’) even if his performance is lacklustre.

    • Zaytabogota says:

He was never a good actor and he probably needs a lot of direction and many takes which isn’t possible in off the cuff interviews. They’re obviously staged relationship is bizarre. I used to like George, now he’s a parody of an egotistical Hollywood actor who will do anything to be taken seriously. His public performance marriage and his use of it to get their brand into politics makes both him and the agendas he’s pushing look absurd and deeply suspicious.

      • Redact says:

Thank you, you said it all! If jumping on Oprah’s couch was “career suicide,” I wonder what the execs are saying about George behind the scenes.

Remember, the Sony hacks and GC’s email correspondence with Amy Pascal shows that he’s a big worrier when it comes to reviews. The guy needs to take a media detox and rethink his approach. And Amal needs to be less visible. She’s actually terrible PR for him, despite what he first believed.

      • JenniferJustice says:

Thank you. Couldn’t have said it better myself. My question is, if Georgie boy wants to be taken seriously and as an intellectual so bad, why didn’t he go to school for political science? It’s not that big of a deal and just getting two years in would give him alot more credit in people’s eyes than showcasing a female professional partner. Such a cheap attempt to garner respect and it isn’t working. I seriously think celebs view education like it’s the plague.

    • Christin says:

Maybe he needs a review of his past descriptions of the engagement scenario(s) and how they trample through a graveyard at night after visiting the local pub.

  14. Angel says:

True love is more tender and protective than this. Just look at Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz.

  15. Jayna says:

Hello Magazine usually cuts and pastes quotes and interviews from other publications with George. Did he really give a full interview to Hello Magazine? I can’t find a full interview.

    • Dippit says:

Says in the full piece that he sat down with them for an “exclusive chat”. It’s over on Amal’s own style blog.

      • Jayna says:

Thanks. I just read it. George said a lot more about Amal and some very sweet things when he was asked questions about her.

“What are some of the qualities that attracted you to her?”

“Everything about her attracted me to her . The thing which really impressed me the most about her was how incredibly smart she is, and I’ve never had so many great discussions as I’ve had with her.”

“She’s also beautiful and elegant and someone I knew I wanted to spend my life with. I’m a very fortunate guy. I never imagined meeting a woman with such incredible grace and who also has a wonderful sense of humour.”

“I think that having the same interests and similar outlooks is one of the basic things that makes us very happy together.”

      • bluevelvet says:

Wait, what? Amal has a “style blog”???? Wow, that’s some great work she’s getting out there…

    • Samq says:

He’s saying its a completely fake article

    • siri says:

Vanity Fair writes Clooney told Hello Magazine “via Us Weekly”, so I guess he didn’t sit with anyone chatting…

  16. Lambda says:

It seems like a solid marriage so far.

  17. chelsea says:

This woman can’t dress to save her life. Egads.

  18. Colette says:

How do they stay in touch via social media when he has said he is not on social media?

    • Jayna says:

I don’t think he quite used the term social media right. LOL It shows he’s not on it and his age.

I think he means skyping each other when apart and doing quick texting or e-mailing while at work like all couples do to touch base, except they are at work in different countries.

  19. Colette says:

So he released a statement to Gossip Cop that the interview is fabricated,he never even spoke to them.I know the British tabloid,The Sun always makes up interviews.I didn’t know Hello made up interviews

    • Emmet says:

Just saw the Gossip Cop piece
      thanks @Colette

but he never denied the Wife from H**l cover on the Enquirer
      strange

it’s been a long audition to be future world ambassador Kloo-NAY (since he’s so fancy now)

    • Jayna says:

Ah-hah, then I was right the first time, questioning him giving an interview with them.

      • dippit says:

Seems so if his denial is the be believed. Although, for all Hello UK might be too flowery and prone to embellish (usually in a starstruck way favouring the celeb concerned) it’s very out there for them to claim an “Exclusive sit-down” (including citing the designer of the suit GC was ‘allegedly’ wearing), stick the story on the front page, herald its arrival on the shelves, and give two named journalists (Veronica Parker and Alexandra Wilby) bylines unless it’s an iron-clad legit interview.

Also the interview has been up/around for days so Clooney has been slow to respond and makes no mention of seeking legal redress – removal of the publication from online and shelves.

        Very odd indeed.

      • dippit says:

Ah ah – according to The Guardian, Hello have stated they bought it in from a “reputable” third-party agency they have used a lot over many years. The journalists given bylines work for that agency – apparently called ‘Famous’ (as is noted at the bottom of the original piece).

George may well have sat down with Famous and given this interview, as he has yet to state otherwise; he’s merely, it seems correctly, stated he did not knowingly give an “exclusive” interview to Hello itself.

This agency buying in of interviews is common practise – sometimes sold on as “exclusive” and other times as a wider pool/release to several outlets. It still seems someone from Famous interviewed him quite extensively (Q&A) or Famous, weirdly, have blown their entire business of years up by making it up.

        Still an odd one.

      • siri says:

I did put in a link to Vanity Fair, but my comment didn’t make it…they write Clooney told Hello Magazine “via Us Weekly”, so I suppose he didn’t do any ‘Exclusive’.

  20. KiddVicious says:

Does kinky mean something different in England than in the US? I’m trying to figure out what’s so kinky about her boots. They look like rain boots. Love the dress though. I like that she dresses with a bit of 70’s flair.

  21. msd says:

It wasn’t “via” anyone … it was a couple of old quotes from past interviews, plus a couple of totally made up new quotes, plus filler. Hello! belatedly admitted it, apologised and pulled the article.

“HELLO! Group bought the material in good faith from a trusted independent agent, who assured us it was an authentic one-to-one interview with Mr Clooney, which we now accept was not the case.”

We can say it’s not important because it’s just a movie star and a trashy magazine but I’m glad Clooney makes an effort to follow through instead of shrugging it off. I wish more people would, the media might be slightly less crap if they did.

    • The Original Mia says:

Weird they would do that. I mean…was anyone looking for a Clooney exclusive?

    • Fa says:

Hello always do this old quotes from past interview to any celebs & made it as exclusive interview but other celebs don’t whine about it if there isn’t anything negative in the article but this is George he always whining & want to control everything, the magazine was on stand for 3 days & he didn’t say during that time but he responded when online sites picked up the story & his people read the comments which were negative on social media

  22. Amelie says:

As far as “looking great on the Red Carpet,” I disagree.

I just watched the video on the Amal Clooney Style blog (see 3/19-Free Speech in Repressive Regimes) where Amal is being interviewed…Amal is wearing an above the knee skirt and her legs are crossed as she sits on stage opposite the interviewer. Unfortunately, multiple times the camera captures a view of Amal’s private area. And, due to her penchant for wearing very short skirts, this is not the first time that the public has seen this. Isn’t this Red Carpet 101…make sure no one can look up your skirt?

    • JenniferJustice says:

Perfect example of how expensive does not equal classy. She always looks tacky to me – dresses like she’s still in her early 20s. And working with attorneys and judges all my adult life, they do not dress for attention. Quite the opposite – law professionals dress to be taken seriously – not to show off or make a spectacle of themselves. That’s why I question her professionalism. There’s no way her co-workers aren’t snorting at her outfits behind her back.

Something nice – she does look lovely in the top photo.
