Ted Cruz: ‘Donald Trump is the Kim Kardashian presidential candidate’

When John McCain ran against Barack Obama in 2008, one of McCain’s attacks was to call Obama a “celebrity,” and in one ad, the McCain campaign compared Obama to Paris Hilton of all people. Besides the fact that the Obama-Paris Hilton comparison was just stupid overall, the McCain campaign’s argument simply fell flat, especially when they introduced Sarah Palin as their VP pick and she added some much-needed glamour/celebrity to the race. I was thinking about that when I read that Ted Cruz compared Donald Trump to… Kim Kardashian. At this point, I think Republicans just don’t “get” celebrities. Like, pick up an Us Weekly, guys. Don’t just throw names together like all celebrities are the same. Rand Paul is not the Jennifer Aniston of the GOP. Chris Christie is not the Kirstie Alley of New Jersey. Ted Cruz is not the Avril Lavigne of Canada.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is dubbing frontrunner Donald Trump the “Kim Kardashian” of presidential candidates. On Thursday, in an interview with the California-based “John and Ken Show” radio program, Cruz said, “There’s no doubt that Donald Trump is the Kim Kardashian presidential candidate. He sits on Twitter and makes a lot of noise, but he has no solutions to fixing the problems.”

The Texas senator’s comparison of Trump — a former reality television star and host of “The Apprentice” — to Kardashian who is the star of “Keeping up with the Kardashians” came in response to a point made by the hosts that Trump was good for television ratings. Cruz had already made the more conspiratorial argument that liberal network television executives were giving the billionaire free airtime because they wanted him to win the Republican nomination only to lose to Hillary Clinton.

Throughout the 35-minute interview, Cruz portrayed Trump as shallow, and at one point called Trump “pathological.” When asked how it felt to be the latest person in the billionaire’s cross hairs, Cruz answered, “Well, listen, Donald is pathological. Donald cannot discuss the issues or the substance. Donald prefers to communicate in 140 characters or less.”

[From CBS News]

For what it’s worth, Kim really doesn’t tweet that much anymore. She’s more into Snapchat these days. And when Kim does Twitter-beef with people… well, okay, yeah there is a whiff of Trump-esque showmanship about it. But I’ve been stewing on Ted Cruz’s comparison for more than a day, and I have a controversial thought: I would vote for Kim Kardashian before I would ever vote for Ted Cruz OR Donald Trump. Think about it… Kanye West as First Gentleman. Kris Jenner as the hyper-organized power broker behind the scenes. North and Saint West playing in the Rose Garden. COME ON! Tell me that wouldn’t be worlds better than a Pres. Trump.

I know this man too is evil but he speaks the truth. Donald Trump succeeded for the same reason the Kardashians did… they amused America

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, I think the analogy works. As for Cruz he’s the Satan presidential candidate.

    • EM says:

I’ve been saying this from the beginning. Primarily because Trump’s goal has always been about the “brand” and celebrity status (if not cult-like status). The analogy definitely works; granted I don’t get the popularity for either one….

    • Who ARE these people? says:

The headline made me laugh and while I think you can’t just toss celebrity names around, this one kind of works. The country gets comfortable with people they’ve seen on TV a lot and stops looking for the substance behind the superficial brand.

And Cruz is a new Grand Inquisitor.

    • Michelle says:

He is using his name to get out his message and it is resonating with millions of voters. He admitted he has always been for himself in the business world (like Kimmy Kakes) but now he is working for the American people. He doesn’t take a cent from special interest grps,
SuperPacs, lobbyists or wallstreet so he doesn’t have to answer to or cater to them if he is elected. Hillary owes everyone “favors” and is as shady as they come.

Trump has really grown on me. He has pulled back the curtain on the election process and exposed the dirt for all to see. The media is also part of the problem regarding Trump. The media as a business desperately want Hillary to win. ALL of the media parent companies have donated to Hillary’s campaign. Millions and millions of dollars. The media is just another part of the establishment.

They continually focus on only the negative when it comes to Trump and the majority of what they report is only half truths and flat out lies! People are starting to see through the bs and know the media tries to steer the narrative to fit it’s own agenda. Anytime Trump mentions the TPP (trans pacific pipeline) which he (and Bernie) are against, the live feed ALWAYS ends and they switch to anything else. They want to keep the American people in the dark.

They also treat Bernie horribly while raising up Hillary. She is their obvious golden girl. Bernie has been marginalized, ignored and written off since day one.

I hope Bernie or Trump wins. They are both as far from the establishment as one can be.

      • Michelle says:

Opps.. TPP = Trans Pacific Partnership not pipeline.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“but now he is working for the American people.”

What makes you trust this? He can’t give a straight answer on any policy question. His positions change multiple times in one day. How do you know he isn’t in it for himself?

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

“They continually focus on only the negative when it comes to Trump and the majority of what they report is only half truths and flat out lies!”

Videos do not lie. Support Trump if you will but blaming the media for accurately reporting what he says because it is inconvenient and uncomfortable to support a publicly xenophobic candidate is blaming the messenger.

      • doofus says:

“They continually focus on only the negative when it comes to Trump and the majority of what they report is only half truths and flat out lies!”

first…what IS the positive that they should focus on? the only thing he talks about doing is “the wall” and mass deportation. two things that are financially unfeasible and, in the second case, probably illegal. (ETA: oh, right, he also talked about punishing women who have a legal medical procedure done. but wait, he didn’t mean it. but wait…maybe he did?…no, he definitely didn’t. I guess it depends on when you asked.)

second, what are the “truths” that they are NOT reporting, and what are the “flat out lies” they ARE reporting?

@Tiffany:), yeah, that claim made me chuckle. as if Drumpf is for anyone but Drumpf…pffft.

      • Cran says:

Trump is not for the American people. He is and always has been only for himself. He will never be any different. There is no substance to the man and never has been. He is a thin skinned bully. If he speaks for the average American I am genuinely frightened for our country because he says nothing, he lies consistently and he has no idea what it means to work with others. He shows no understanding of foreign policy or economics nor any desire to learn. He is a personality and contends that an “aura of personality” will make him a great president. He can’t even speak in complete sentences.

  2. Erinn says:

    Have to agree, Kaiser.

I like Kim a hell of a lot more than I like Trump or Cruz.

    • swak says:

I may like Kim better than Trump or Cruz but there is NO way I would vote for her for president.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Yes, there is nothing positive about the Kardashians. Everything they do is for themselves, I would NEVER NEVER NEVER vote for them because so much of how they act is based on ignorance and lack of education.

      • Erinn says:

Oh well -that’s just it. She’s not running, so it doesn’t matter anyway. In a general sense though – absolutely like Kim better than the other two asshats.

      • Locke Lamora says:

“Everything they do is for themselves” – as do most, if not all, politicians.

      • Pandy says:

Even trump is better than a kardashian for the Oval Office.

    • Tris says:

I’m a bit shocked that Kaiser wrote this. KK and Donald are cut from EXACTLY the same stupid, overinflated cloth. I shudder at either of them having any real influence; I bemoan the fact that they do have too much influence already.

      • Zimmerman says:

Yeah, DT and KK have a lot in common. As little as I like Cruz, I’d say he’s right here.

      • I Choose Me says:

Right? I mean really, I’d like to shove all of them into a rocket and shoot them in outer space. That’s how much I dislike the Kardashians, Trump and Cruz.

      • Smellsfishi says:

You guys it’s supposed to be kkk when you use Donald trumps name.

As far as Kim being president ….no. I can’t believe this election has got so bad that we are willing to consider plastic as a presidential candidate.

And even though Donald trump is all for himself, so is Hilary Clinton, everyone in this election is in this for themselves.

Someone said above that the media is only reporting the bad things trump says which I mean he does only say bad things, but I do think the media is influencing everybody so he doesn’t win, which I’m okay with to an extent as long as it isn’t for anybody in this election. They’re all clowns. We need to try and get some else to run, we aren’t safe with any of these people, I don’t want to have to move.

I can’t believe this country is this f’d up that I’m willing to leave where I was born. This sucks I wish you all the best maybe I’ll just get a bunker and live in that during world war 3 in 2016-2020. Now I’m off to watch YouTube videos on how to survive a war.

    • Alexis says:

I mean if the choices were down to KK, Cruz, or Trump, sure I’d pull the lever for KIm.

  3. Mgsota says:

I never thought I’d agree with Ted Cruz on ANYTHING, but that comparison is spot on!!

  4. aims says:

For what it’s worth, I think both of them are equally disgusting. The thing about the Republican party is that when they go crazy, they bring their “A” game. They don’t have someone who’s at least a little bit moderate, NO, It’s balls to the wall crazy .

    • Erinn says:

This is what I’ve learned. I’m Canadian – so we just got ‘rid’ of Harper. But there WAS a time where it was like “well, yeah I guess, he’s okay – we could do worse for sure”. Our crazies at least for the most part, seem to be a bit more moderate level crazy.

I don’t think they realize that if they had someone who was more moderate – and not even SUPER moderate, they’d stand a WAY better chance.

      • doofus says:

“I don’t think they realize that if they had someone who was more moderate – and not even SUPER moderate, they’d stand a WAY better chance.”

it’s funny…(well, not REALLY) but that’s exactly what their “post-mortem” of the last election told them…

…be more moderate overall…appeal more to women, minorities, people with lower incomes, etc.

at first, it seemed like they were genuinely taking stock of their party and trying to figure out where they went wrong so they could be a viable party the next time around. now, not so much. seems they’ve lurched even further to the right.

      • Esmom says:

doofus, yes. And what’s cray to me is that people are saying/thinking that Kasich is the moderate one when he is anything but. He’s just behaving himself better.

      • Tris says:

I’m Canadian, too, and in some ways the US model (of bat-shit crazy antics) is better than our smooth polite evil, because at least you can see it coming and watch what it does. Harper was sneaky and quiet and polite and vicious. At least Trump would hold a party when he shut down the scientists, whereas Harper just secretly cut their throats (metaphorically, obviously).

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Erinn, I know what you mean. I was so happy to see Harper tossed out but even he fit more or less under the bell curve for plausible national leaders. All the party leaders were, like, rational human beings. I didn’t like what Harper did or how he did it, and I think he didn’t play by Canadian rules and hurt the country, but…. he was embarrassing by Canadian standards, not embarrassing by global standards.
He used kittens to try to look human, but you couldn’t imagine he would eat them.
        The Republicans are different.

Tris, I just read your comment. Sneaky yes … I agree with that too. The fact that Harper APPEARED to be plausible hid a lot of nasty stuff. But insane? He was more psychopathic, in complete control, that’s how he fooled people.

In short I agree with everyone!

      • Tate says:

@doofus until they stop catering to that crazy base that is currently controlling the GOP they will never put forth a moderate candidate. The nuts won’t allow it.

      • Insomniac says:

I agree with you, Doofus. And that scares me, because if they lose with Trump or Cruz in November, who the hell are they going to run in 2020? Cthulhu?

      • Fiorella says:

Guys what happened to harpers secret plan? I thought after he had a majority he was going to get very evil? Why do people always connect him to pro-life/anti choice but he hasn’t had any such bills introduced?

      • BabyJane says:

Erinn and other Canadians- what you say about Harper is EXACTLY what some of my compatriots say about Hillary Clinton. She’ll receive votes because she (apparently) is better than GOP alternatives, but she is just as detrimental to America and, more importantly, the globe.

    • ls_boston says:

Hilarious comment. Spot on accurate but I’m howling with laughter.

    • Magnoliarose says:

That’s hilarious. Yes they bring it hard and shameless. No fake pumps or anything, just full tilt bonkers.

    • Carol says:

Yep, couldn’t agree more. That’s why I think many moderate Republicans want to vote for Trump simply to watch their party implode. Then they can rebuild it and knock out the crazies.

  5. Patty frost says:

True. I would vote for Kim k over these two obnoxious people too. What’s the worst that could happen to USA? More sex tapes and lip kits. Much better than what than a useless wall.

  6. Kimble says:

I’m a Bernie supporter, but would take Trump over Cruz any day. All 3 of the GOP frontrunners hate women, so we might as well go for batshit crazy over just plain crazy.

    Cruz makes my flesh crawl

    • Shambles says:

Or we could write in Bernie even if he doesn’t get the nomination, rather than lying down and handing the presidency to one of two equally repulsive and bat sh!t insane democrats

      • LAK says:

This is what i don’t understand. Many people seem to support Bernie, yet say he is unelectable, as if their own voice doesn’t matter. They have bought into what the media is telling them to do instead of exercising their free will and voting for Bernie.

      • Shambles says:

LAK, I don’t get it either. I think there are people who are co-opting the Bernie movement who don’t truly understand or care to understand what he stands for. Bernie is the exact opposite of buying into what the media is selling you. Bernie is for using your own voice no matter what. It irritates me that these groups of supporters are clouding out the real message and turning off other voters.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Or…Bernie simply isn’t getting enough votes in the primary because not a lot of people support his message? Or simply that a smaller amount suppprt his message than Hilary?

I just find the conspiracy theories peculiar, exercise your right to vote but don’t just assume people who don’t vote the same simply didn’t have enough information. Maybe they did and didn’t agree with you.

      • FingerBinger says:

@Shambles That’s a bad idea. Bernie Sanders will be the Ralph Nader of 2016. He’ll siphon off votes from Clinton making it easier for the republican candidate to win.

      • Shambles says:

Eternal, I wasn’t trying to assume that people who don’t vote the same way I do don’t have enough information. Everyone is absolutely allowed to vote for whatever candidate who’s ideas they support most fully. When I made that comment I was thinking of a comment I saw from Kitten, who said some of Bernie’s bro-supporters were turning her off of Bernie himself. That’s what I don’t like, that people who’s ideals don’t really align with Bernie’s are driving away the people who would have otherwise voted for him. Not a concpriacy theory, just me venting my frustrations.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        Ah Shambles, I understand.

Yeah, online and in person politics has taken a turn for the sour. I have to admit some (but not all) of my interactions with Bernie supporters has been distasteful. I’ve also been really confused by the number of people who seem to actually be trying to choose between him and Trump (or left him to support Trump) those are the ones likely causing a lot of grief.

      • THE OG BB says:

I have two friends who are huge Bernie supporters (and are women in their late 30s, don’t know many bros since I’m 31) and have said they will write in a vote for Bernie in the general before they ever vote for Hillary. I’m like, so you’re basically giving the republicans (probably Trump) a vote. They are both gay, so I wouldn’t really cast them among the privileged if Trump or Cruz wins. It’s a bizarre election year indeed.

    • Tris says:

Here in Toronto, we had a crazy mayor for a few years (Rob Ford). In a way, it got crazy out of our system, and now we have a bland but capable mayor. If Trump were elected, you’d have a disasterous four years (less, if he was impeached, which would be likely), and then a nice normal person would step in to clean up the mess.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

The Susan Sarandon approach? The thing is, Obama just spent 8 years trying to clean up 8 years of Bush mess with mixed success due to Republican obstruction. If Trump got in, he’ll probably have at least the House and at best a mixed Senate. We really don’t want to see what kind of mess that makes. Some messes are not survivable and most nice, normal people would want to stay the hell away from that.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Some of us don’t have 4 years to sacrifice. Try to remember vulnerable populations and not simply the comfortable upper and middle class.

Who Are All These People is right, 4 years can bring enough devastation that it will take triple that to repair the problems created.

      • MerlinsWife says:

I agree that Tory is bland, but I haven’t seen any proof of capable yet, unless the bar is not smoking crack/ drunken racist rants.

      • Tiffany :) says:

There are a lot of Supreme Court Justices that can be nominated in 4 years, causing generations of harm to our country.

  7. Nancy says:

There are a lot of similarities. They both seek attention, they both do or did reality tv, they have both been married three times, they both talk a lot and say nothing. They are both egomaniacs, they both are loathed or loved by portions of the population. They are both unapologetic liars or misrepresent the truth. Hopefully for the sake of our country, they will be defeated, she by the ultimate end of her television show and he by losing the presidential race if there is any justice in the world.

  8. mia girl says:

Hmmm so if Donald Trump in the Kim Kardashian presidential candidate, does that make Ted Cruz the Jim Bob Duggar presidential candidate? Maybe the Kirk Cameron candidate?

    • Snazzy says:

OMG the Duggar conparison is perfection! You are absolutely right!!

      • Nancy says:

I think even Jim Bob wouldn’t want to punish a women for getting an abortion. He would most likely feel her fate would be in the pearly gates. Dump Trump

    • lilacflowers says:

Cruz is the Munster family candidate. He’s Grandpa Munster. The last go-round, they had Paul “Eddie Munster” Ryan as their VP candidate. The Munsters must be represented.

  9. Lucy2 says:

He’s…right? OMG, did I just agree with Cruz? I feel ill.

  10. LAK says:

Donald Trump may communicate in 140 characters or less, but he is getting his message across, whether or not Ted Cruz etc like the message or not. No point getting mad at Donald. Be Better than him. End of.

    • CornyBlue says:

Right ? Like get on his level! He is batshit crazy and still has way more supporters and name recognition than u

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

The man created a whole TV persona around being brash and aggressive and doing crazy things on camera. It makes for a good spectacle but a bad president, some say that the abortion question was one of the first times Donald was grilled on presidential specifics and he flopped hard unlike when he can just generally boasts about how great we’ll become and how he’ll smash all our enemies.

Having 16 other competitors was great for Donald Trump, now that he’s down to 2 and they’re going to start asking him for details we’re gonna see a whole lot of back peddling and mistakes.

  11. Barrett says:

Cruz his voice is the worst! His voice is in my nightmares

  12. aenflex says:

American born and raised, and proud… Yet somehow so happy to live out of the country for the foreseeable future. So nice not to have to worry about the farce that this election has become, or its results.

    • Shambles says:

Just because you don’t live in this country right now doesn’t mean the outcome of this race doesn’t affect you. The outcome of the presidential election affects everyone– even people who aren’t US citizens. Everyone, foreign and domestic, is going to have to deal with the next US president whether they like it or not. And as Bernie Sanders so eloquently stated on CNN Town Hall the other day, there’s really no separation between us as human beings. When one of us suffers, we all suffer. The problems of one are the problems of all. I guess I just don’t appreciate that head-in-the-sand, “not my problem” stance from someone who says they’re proud to be an American. If you’re proud to be a US citizen, whether or not you live here, you should be as worried as the rest of us are. This election is no joke.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Shambles, good for you. The USA is still the most powerful nation on the Earth. Every election has consequences not only for its people, but for all people everywhere — and now, the health of the planet itself.

Living in Canada now, I know a lot of worried, even horrified, Canadians. They have good reason to be concerned, given the proximity and trading relationship. But even people living halfway around the globe on a tiny, low-lying island will be affected by the outcome of this election.

The only positive thing about being American living away right now is I don’t have to have the campaign in my face all the time. (And having cut cable TV makes it even quieter.)

Of course this race has farcical elements, but the consequences are real.

      • Shambles says:

You said it better than I could have. Thank you for sharing your views as a sister from up north.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

No Shambles you said it better! You did! : )

I’m a sister from both sides of the border. Keeping up with 2 countries is very time consuming!

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

To echo the other two ladies I’d worry. We’re an isolationist nation no more, whoever is steering the ship of the U.S. will be a global issue for better or worse. Hopefully it’s a good person, we’ve seen what happens when it’s not.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

And when the US was in more isolationist mode, it still had world consequences. FDR saw Hitler’s rise but had to sneak around Congress to lend some crappy ships and arms to Britain, whose government itself had its head in the sand until it was too late. We’re all connected.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @Who Are

EXACTLY. The truth is as soon as we invented ships and planes we could never pretend other nation’s problems were just that – their problems. Hitler is a perfect example of what happens when we attempt isolationism and considering the world is even more tangled today it’s just not possible the head of the U.S. won’t have effects on other nations (sorry aeon).

      • Sixer says:

Plus, it’s not just foreign policy. If you guys elect an unstable nutcase like Trump, who knows what the global financial implications could be. If capital takes fright, we could be looking at worse times than 2008, before we’ve even fixed what happened in 2008.

I know British leftists who say if not Bernie then Trump because even our useless leaders couldn’t foist unpopular foreign policies on us on the basis of the atlanticist alliance if Clown Donald was president. To them I say: you people are INSANE, for the reasons above.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @Sixer

Out of curiousity are you talking about that couple (and I can’t remember for sure where they lived, merely that it was overseas) who was interviewed and featured in a newspaper who said they switched from Bernie to Trump because blah-blah-blah?

      • Sixer says:

No. I do not know them or that story. But it sounds equally insane!

I am one of said British leftists – although not a tribal political party type of leftist. More a philosophical one, since day-to-day politics is so tribal and awful! And perhaps what is not immediately obvious – and why should it be? Why should Americans take into account what are other countries’ priorities for their elections? – to Americans is that Hillary, as an arch hawk and supporter of neocon foreign policy, is seen by many on the left here as the worst possible outcome – for US, rather than for YOU. Because if the nice liberal lady wins, our leaders will see foreign policy as business as usual and continue to foist it on us, even though it is unpopular with all sections of the electorate, left and right. But if Trump wins, even they can’t look at us with a straight face and say we should follow him. Hence the if not Bernie, then Trump stuff. A lot of it is exacerbated by the refugee crisis and people blaming western ME policy as a prime cause of it.

Me? I think Trump carries huge risks for global stability, especially in the finance world, so would be bad for us in every way imaginable. And how anybody could wish him on the American people – even the ones who intend to vote for him – is quite beyond me. Mind you, I feel the same about the other GOP candidates.

  13. Maya says:

I am from the UK and really have no say in US politics but I really want Hillary Clinton to not only win the democratic election but also the presidential election.

With the way the republicans are ruining each other and the party – if the democratic nominee wins then for the first time, they could end up with The House & The Senate (ultimate power).

    • LAK says:

Hilary is awful. It’s too bad her selling point is that she is female because that clouds people’s judgement.

      • Merritt says:

That is untrue. Her selling point is that she is experienced, her voting record was left of Obama, and she is a hard worker.

      • Maya says:

@Lak: as an outsider this is what I see Hilary as: Hard worker, determined, strong willed, intelligent, experienced, survivor and adaptable.

She brings almost 30 years of experience gained from various political roles to the presidency.

She has shown her strength when media and people attacks her on what her husband and Obama has done. She shows her experiences when talking about policies and what needs to be change – she shows a plan. She shows her intelligence when she is debating with others. She shows her hard work with the changes she has brought to people.

Hilary is the only one of the candidates to be held accountable for others choices (Bill and Obama). She is the only one who is not allowed to call others out in their lies such as Saunders etc but she is constantly being maligned by Saunders and his team.

I don’t like her because she is a woman – I like her because she is the best candidate for the presidency role.

Others may (will) disagree but this is my opinion. I wanted Hilary as president in 2008 and I want her as president now. She hasn’t done anything to make my opinion change.

      • CornyBlue says:

@Maya She is also a war profiteer and people forget what she said about Obama before the 2008 primaries

      • Merritt says:

        @CornyBlue

What about things that Obama and his team said about her during the primaries? It is a two way street.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Um, Sanders is the spelling, not Saunders. I don’t know why people keep changing his last name to something they’re more familiar with. His name is Sanders.

Maya, you’re in the UK, so you might not be as familiar with Clinton’s actual record as compared to what her campaign says is her actual record.

She voted for the war on Iraq, making her voting record not to the left of Obama, who opposed the war. To me, that is the most far-reaching, politically revealing and consequential part of her record.

I’ll vote for the Democratic candidate in the Fall, but I’ll know the facts going in.

      • LAK says:

Maya: I have followed Hilary since her days as first lady of Arkansas back in the late 80s. Sleaze follows her everywhere she goes. As one current affairs commentor once said, her default position is lying, even when it doesn’t need to be.

Now i’m not naive enough to think politicians are lilywhite, but there is a trail of proven sleaze that has followed Hilary since the early days.

She’s worked a smart campaign to deflect from her sleaze, and she’s definitely capitalising on the fact that she’s a woman, and America has decided that it wants to elect a woman president.

As a result, that sleaze is being overlooked, and many people are going on and on about how smart she is, as if that gives her the right to do the things she has done. This is a matter of her record of bad things in those 30yrs, NOT what her campaign tells you she’s done in such a way as to pretend it is of no consequence or others are making a bigger deal of it than they should. The guy who committed suicide when they
were in the white house sure didn’t think any of it was inconsequential.

As for her 2008 campaign, i can’t forget that her camp was the source for the Barack HUSSEIN Obama slurs.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

I feel like you guys would have more success if you’d stop accusing everyone not voting for Sanders of:

        1. Not being educated or knowing enough
        and
        2. Only voting because of a vagina

Reducing Hilary to a woman vote or Barack to a black vote (ironically Bernie doesn’t get reduced to a Jewish vote, white male I guess) is a good way to misunderstand her supporters and ensure you never actually address their specific concerns to bring them onto your candidates side.

      • Original T.C. says:

Hillary’s selling point is NOT that she is female (Palin and Fiorina would both have gotten women’s votes if that was true). Her selling point is she is the most qualified and based in reality out of all those running for office. When she was running against Obama, I thought he would make a better leader based on that time period and that she was running on her husband’s record.

With her additional experience these past 7 years on her OWN two feet, I think she’s finally there. Sanders lives in fantasy world and lack specifics just like Trump. Their voters have an almost religious obsession with them outside of facts. Ted Cruz wants to set women back to the 1800’s. So yeah easy decision that any man or woman can make which has nothing to do with a gender.

These theories of the “Clinton Machine” being all powerful still can’t explain how she lost to a man of color with an Islamic middle name. It’s like Beyoncé and the Illuminata who somehow could not stop Rihana from climbing the charts. Yet they are supposedly all powerful!!!

      • BabyJane says:

Eternal, you’re refusing to listen! No one is reducing Hillary to her genitalia! Read the ever growing enumeration of her deficits. She sucks.

      • Deedee says:

I thought Kimmy was shilling for Hilliary not so long ago? I remember because I thought how funny it was that she was pro Hilliary and Caitlyn was touting Ted Cruz. My, how the worm turns….

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @Babyjane

Ah, thank you for giving me point #3.

        So it goes:
        1. Not being educated or knowing enough
        and
        2. Only voting because of a vagina
        AND
        3. Not listening

Condescension is an amazing way to persuade people, thank goodness for you.

        @DeeDee

That’s what we call delicious irony.

      • BabyJane says:

So… Eternal… you still didn’t address the reality of her record.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I think if we get into the “reality of her record”, you’ll see that Bernie is being very disingenuous when he suggests there is quid pro quo with Hillary and the fossil fuel industry. She has a VERY strong history of voting “green”.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @Babyjane

Unfortunately everytime someone offers me a smoking gun link I do a little research and the smoking gun becomes a logical if a bit cynical response to a complex issue. You probably have a few smoking gun links you’d like to offer me that I’d accept.

But one of the big mistakes I see happening from Bernie’s side is that if the goal is to bring people to your side and encourage them to support your candidate then barely concealed condescension is a poor way to approach the matter.

    • Gg says:

You are right! Hillary is so corrupt, the Clinton Foundation makes the panama papers look like child’s play.

      • MaxR says:

Yes! I wish there was more talk of the Clinton Foundation. I also wish all the reporters who interview have to disclose how much they gave to the foundation – to show how biased they are in their reporting. No one ran against Hilary because they were afraid. She has the nomination bought.

  14. Brea says:

No Ted. Both you an Donald are far more repulsive than Kim could ever hope to be. She hurts no one. You want to hurt everyone. What a dumb thing to say.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

I cannot defend anything about Cruz, so I’ll try to put it this way — an analogy doesn’t claim that 2 things are exactly alike, but rather that they correspond along some kind of significant dimension. Thus, “My love is like a red, red rose,” not “My love is a red, red rose.” The analogy under discussion today has to do with the superficiality and social-media mastery of Trump relative to Kardashian, and with both having gained national attention due to television programming, the analogy holds. Of course Trump and Cruz are more repulsive and both have already done harm to political discourse. But it’s an analogy about communication, not policy… I think.

  15. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

How dignified this race has become.

    • Snazzy says:

It’s terrible, but even their faces scare me.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Exactly. It can only be as elevated and gracious as the people in it. I’m looking at you, Chris Christie (and everyone else).

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Yep, the mud slinging has been elevated to a new level of filth I didn’t know could actually happen.

      • Lady D says:

Yes. Never did I think I would see the day when presidential candidates bragged about the size of their unit. Still gobsmacked by that conversation.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      It’s really depressing to witness.

  16. Nev says:

He’s a creep. Sure he watched the sextape though.

  17. Emily says:

Poor Kim does not deserve that comparison.

  18. Tx_mom says:

The Kardashians are too careful in their presentation of their brand to be the Donald’s role models. I think of him as more of a Gary Busey.

  19. realitycheck says:

I’m Canadian so I’m posing this question to the US citizens in here. Are you at all worried about who your next president will be? I find this time around that the candidates are really lacking in quality…

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Uh, yeah, we’re beyond worried. We’re hysterical.

    • Magnoliarose says:

Yep and we are all suffering from soul grinding low levels of depression. Sometimes I wish I were Dorothy and could click my heels three times and it would all go away.
The whole thing makes me sad.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

I’m a dual citizen and OF COURSE! What sane person would not be at least troubled. The 2 major political parties in trouble – the Republicans know it and the Democrats are in denial.

    • Red32 says:

I cannot in good conscience vote for any of them, not even the one I am “supposed to” because we both have a vagina, or the old guy who wants to take even more out of my paycheck when I can barely make ends meet as it is.

We’re screwed no matter what, just in different ways.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Well, if it’s any consolation, the “old” guy isn’t that much older than the one you’re supposed to vote for because you’re both women, and the math is on his side – your out of pocket health-care costs would drop more than your taxes would rise. And if you can barely make ends meet, you’re not the tax target — the rich would be expected to once again pay their fair share, not you. And he’d like to raise the minimum wage on the federal level: that would help too, yes?

The US will ultimately move to a single-payer system, but my god, the conniptions it has to throw along the way to something that makes sense and lowers costs.

    • Tiffany :) says:

YES, I am worried! I don’t really have a candidate that is my ideal, so I am working with what is available, but I find the majority of the candidates to be really, really lacking. And terrifying.

  20. Becki says:

    Oh Kaiser, NOOO!!!

  21. Magnoliarose says:

Why not. At least she’s not a bigot. She’s not orange anymore (usually) but more of a warm beige nowadays so that’s a plus.
PMK could probably give Putin a run for his money in the Machiavellian power games.
Kanye could take over a session of Congress and storm the podium, enraged about suit jackets, and rant until both parties give up, put their differences aside and broker a truce. Only so they can impeach Kim and wrestle back the power though.
I want this just for one moment to see Kim taking selfies while chatting about a world peace and stuff with Angela Merkel.
At this point, how much lower can we sink?

  22. Gg says:

Cruz is way more fake than Trump. His past is so shady, he’s not the homegrown church-goer he’d like you to think he is. Plus my money’s on his name being on the DC Madame’s list and most of the national enquirer story being true.
At least with the Donald it’s all out there.

  23. me says:

They all suck. How about Anarchy as a solution?

    • Who ARE these people? says:

With high levels of unregulated gun ownership, so much social anger, and big money buying its way out of regulations that protect the public, a lawless society appears to be well on the way.

      • me says:

Yup totally agree. Sad state America is in. American citizens should be worried, but a lot of them seem to be taking this election as a joke. I just don’t get it.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

TV seems to have had a weird distancing effect … things might not seem “real.” But I also think a lot of people are taking things very seriously, too. To be continued, this goes on way too long and costs way too much money. So much other important stuff is going on and being ignored because of the campaigning.

  24. Lilacflowers says:

Some positive news, the Supremes just handed right-wing extremists a loss this morning that protects voting rights and makes it harder to gerrymander.

    • JenB says:

That is good news-I hadn’t heard it yet, thanks for sharing. Somewhat off topic-curious what you think the odds are that Merrick Garland will get a hearing?

      • Lilacflowers says:

They just released the decision about an hour ago.

I think we have a stronger chance of colonizing Jupiter by the end of the year than we do of seeing the Senate judiciary committee hold a confirmation hearing. It infuriates me beyond words that those lazy traitors are stealing my tax dollars while refusing to do their jobs. If they don’t like him, Bork him. But they won’t because they would have to actually show up to work and record legitimate objections, which they don’t have. I pray they lose control in November and that the rest of them get thrown out over the next two election cycles.

I’m registering to vote in NH so I can do muy part to render Senator Kelly Idiot unemployed for her part in this. I’ve let her know too.

      • JenB says:

I totally agree. Glad you let the Senator know too. I also find it to be just plain rude to the nominee. He has worked very hard and served the country-with far more integrity than this obstructionist Senate.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Oh, I let her know. I let my current Senators and Reps know why I won’t be voting in MA this go-round. (Neither MA senator is up for reelection this year.) I let McConnell know and I ask for his resignation weekly. I let each and every member of the judiciary committee know, by letter (they must record letters) and I have let every Republican Senator who is running for reelection know that I am donating to their opponents for the purpose of removing their thieving butts from office because of this

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        Lilacflowers you Rock!

    • Tiffany :) says:

This decision made me so happy!

    • Magnoliarose says:

Lilac-You deserve the Celebitchy award for civic duty. Maybe your post will inspire others.

  25. Maggie says:

I think the US is seeing the result of apathy when it comes to voting and choice of candidates. How a seemingly intelligent, friendly, democratic country can have these clowns represent them is beyond comprehension. Trump, the Bush family, Cruz……wtf?

  26. Anastasia says:

I don’t like Kim AT ALL, but I feel like she’s being insulted by being compared to Donald Trump. Trump and Cruz both are WAY WAY worse than she is.

    • Cynthia says:

      Thank you!

I hope that people don’t miss the fact that Ted Cruz is no different from Donald Trump. He says exactly the same thing Trump is saying, if not worse he just says it in a more flattering and polite manner.

Donald trump wants women punished for Abortion, Ted Cruz wants to close down all abortion clinics.

      • funfactor says:

Ted Cruz has already shut down most of the Planned Parenthood clinics in Texas. He’s aiming for all of them. I’m so disgusted that Cruz is a senator in my state.

  27. Dee says:

I hate Ted Cruz, but he is very much right in this case. Anyone who votes for Trump is pretty much voting for a Kartrashian.

  28. Giddy says:

I don’t know anyone who is happy about our electoral choices this year. Trump met with the Washington Post editorial board. They asked him if he would use tactical nuclear weapons against ISIS (as he had claimed) and his response was to try to change the subject by complimenting the board’s good looks. He is the original empty suit, but with a really loud mouth. However, Cruz reminds me of a lizard in human form, and when I see him that’s all I can think about. Maybe I’m trying too hard to drown out his voice, which drives me crazy. When he filibustered in 2013 to shut down the government (he read The Cat In The Hat on the Senate floor) the cost to the government was in the billions. I’ve read estimates of between 12 and 30 billion. Any amount was too much to pay for Cruz’s ego. I’ll be voting for whoever gets the Democratic nomination.

  29. abby says:

His comments read mildly sexist to me. Kim is running a multi hundred million dollar a year empire (arguably very successfully) and to demean her by using her name as being synonymous with “on Twitter and makes a lot of noise, but he has no solutions to fixing the problems” feels misogynistic.

  30. Marie says:

Well Teddy Boy, at least Kim’s number is not on the D.C. Madam’s client list and she’s not schtupping all her assistants behind Kanye’s back while waving a bible in the air.

  31. Otaku Fairy says:

If it came down to Ted, Donald, and Kim I’d have to vote for Kim too. She’s someone who doesn’t seem to really be helping or hurting society in any real way, while the other two (and their supporters) are actual threats to people’s rights. I’ll take vapid and plastic over bigoted and dangerous any day.
