For six years now, BET has been doing an event called Black Girls Rock! It’s about promoting positivity with African-American women and black women and showing young women of color that there are some amazing role models in their community. Considering the consistent underrepresentation of women of color in the media, I think the event is pretty great. In years past, Michelle Obama has even come out for it. And this year, Rihanna and Hillary Clinton came out. Clinton gave a speech about her African-American female role models – you can read her speech here. Rihanna was there because she picked up the Rock Star Award.
In the past month, we’ve gotten more red carpet and paparazzi photos of Rihanna than we’ve had in the previous year. When she amps up her promotion, she really brings it. While I’m happy about all of the new Rihanna photos, I do wonder the interest level? Like, do you guys want more Rih-Rih? Do you want more fashion posts and street-style posts about Rihanna? I’m really asking – honk if you want more Rihanna! For the Black Girls Rock event, Rihanna wore this… unusual ensemble. With that face and that body, she can pull off nearly anything, but this outfit did leave me with a “???” thought bubble. She wore an oversized gingham blouse, shorts and a giant fur coat by Miu Miu. While I knew that Rihanna doesn’t have a problem with wearing fur, the choice of wearing fur to this event – and wearing fur over shorts and a blouse – is really strange. Rihanna also made a nice, tearful speech for her Rock Star Award:
“Thank you so much for celebrating us in a world that doesn’t celebrate us enough. The minute you learn to love yourself, you will not want to be anybody else. Role model is not the title they like to give me…but I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle. Hopefully one day I’ll be raising my own little black girl who rocks.”
Aw. Rihanna has been talking about babies more and more lately. It does feel like her biological clock has started ticking and she’s thinking more and more about settling down and starting a family. I genuinely believe she will be a kickass mom.
Last things… Rihanna dropped her video for “Kiss It Better” last week, and you can see the NSFW video here. That single has a real ‘80s vibe and I don’t know how to feel about it. Also, Chris Hemsworth did a dramatic reading of the lyrics for “Work.”

I also thought she looked miserable. And her makeup looks off… either her concealer is too light or the bronzer/contour across her cheek is too dark, you can especially tell in that first photo. I’m glad she’s covered up more, but this outfit is so bad. Nice shoes, though.

Wtf, yeah we have major problems in the world but you act like we can’t solve them at the same time , I’m not an animal person but I do know we can solve more than one thing at a time, you said you were involved in a bunch of organizations, they work at the same time don’t they? It’s better to think about someone’s life if you imagine it as your own, if you were an animal that could be used for fur wouldn’t you want someone to stand up for you, or would you not care because first world problems. Part of the problem in the world is the lack of respect. We don’t respect anything and because of that we have “first world problems”. When we respect things we can see a change.
I’m not someone who’s a fan of animals but I know they deserve to be respected just like everything else, you say first world problems but forget to acknowledge that animals wether you like it or not play a major role in our life, you like to eat animals which is fine (I eat them too), but if you aren’t respectful and don’t care what happens to them you won’t have them much longer in your diet. Plus they’re a part of the environment, they keep it running, we need them, they don’t need us, same as earth we can damage it all we want but it’s only hurting us. We’d be one of the first to die, and guess what roaches will be one of the last!

Whenever a celeb wears fur now it seems like cheap publicity grab. they can’t be that unaware of how unacceptable a large portion of people find it. Their PR and stylists can’t be that unaware.

I don’t wear fur and don’t support animal cruelty, but at the same time, have no problem eating a buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich from mcdonalds and don’t see people who go out to get their Nashville fried chicken from kFC or their ham, egg, and cheese omelet from Bob Evans as cruel, scum, or devoid of empathy either.

Lol, no. I’m not advertising (although now that I’m looking back, it really does sound like an advertisement for 3 different restaraunts.) Yes, we need protein to be healthy, but those things that I listed are just extra fast food items that we WANT, not need. Plenty of people have lived healthy lives without them.

I’ve seen photos of her without makeup and she looks average, and I’ve seen recent videos of her on tour and she still sucks and runs out of breath in a second.
Except they’re not played out. Girl cannot sing. Go and see reviews of her Anti tour. Even the critics likes her and was willing to write very good things if she would just step up. I was at her Jacksonville show which was the first stop and they were empty seats. That particular stop didn’t even make $1mil and this is a girl who used to sell out stadiums. She can no longer fill out 14k arenas. well, some of it. She needs to take vocal lessons. I don’t see anything wrong with wearing makeup, she’s a celebrity she sells image, she has to look good all the time. But there are so many no makeup picture of rihanna and she’s equally beautiful. I don’t think she tries too hard for fashion (this outfit is pretty basic) she has an amazing body, clothes look good on her and designers love her.
This tour she’s doing well, she worked really hard on singing and she’s on time.

Yes she has a stylist. She went for effortless and she always gets it. So considering that that outfit is planned down to a T, saying she puts in work is not off the mark. Look at the details of the makeup on her face, if that nose gets contoured any more than it is, it might disappear. just kidding. like you said, she’s a pop star and she sells image and some of us can see that.
She hasn’t been late to some shows yet which is a great improvement from the last one but her singing hasn’t gotten any better. I witnessed one. Her backing track is usually on a higher register than her actual voice which makes the lipsyncing obvious. She has no rhythm when she moves and is never in rhythm (again) with dancers which makes everything look like “a cheap uninspired mess” according to the critics. She twerk good though. She gets me with than one

One thing you can say about Rihanna is she’s never wearing pounds of makeup covering her skin all the time. She’s one of the few celebs who’s often seen around without makeup, all the criticisms you can levy on her that’s the only thing that seems inaccurate.
Her makeup is kinda heavy here and I have to admit I’m getting Madam Tussaud’s wax figure from it, but that’s mostly because it’s so unusual for her. Usually girl has bomb makeup.

I don’t think she smug or full of herself, she’s really nice to her fans, she recognizes her fans even after years of meeting them. She’s doing free meets and greets after her concert and seems happy with her fans (doesn’t look bored or annoyed by them). She even took some of them to dinner after her concert. She has paid for one of fans funeral before.
I personally think she’s a strong woman, who has made mistakes in the past and is still learning.
She isn’t always nice to her fans. I remember that high school girl that wore an outfit similar to one of hers and when Rihanna saw it on social media she was really nasty about it. That she was so ugly to a fan, especially a high schooler, tells me that she is “nice” to her fans because her handlers tell her to be, not because she is genuinely appreciative of their admiration.
