Daily Beast: Prince Harry ‘still holds a candle for’ Chelsy Davy, ‘they talk a lot’

wenn1853319

Chelsy Davy and Prince Harry dated for seven years. By all accounts, he absolutely loved and adored her. By most accounts, she was wary of the royal lifestyle and she was always the one shutting down the possibility of marriage and a future together. She comes from a wealthy family, she studied to be a lawyer and she even worked briefly in London as a lawyer. It was widely believed that even after the so-called “final” split for Harry and Chelsy back in 2011 that they still spent together, perhaps even had a friends-with-benefits situation. Chelsy is The One, some people believe. I’m not sure what I believe at this point, but I do think Chelsy was at the very least one of Harry’s great loves. Now the Daily Beast’s royal reporter claims that Harry is still hung up on Chelsy and if she wanted to get back, he would be there. Some highlights:

Chelsy has given up her law career. She’s now launching an ethical jewelry line, Aya Africa. She’s been active on social media to promote the line.

She’s still in contact with Harry. The Daily Beast says, “Chelsy is still in regular contact with Harry, and Harry has reportedly been consulted on the new project, and is 100 percent behind it. There is even speculation that Chelsy might do a big interview to promote the brand when it launches, in which she would touch on her royal relationship.”

Is she happy without Harry? “Although Chelsy insists to friends that she is happier these days outside the royal goldfish bowl, and could not bear to live her life under the level of scrutiny and restriction that being Harry’s bride would demand, there are several who still think they will, eventually, partner up.”

A friend claims that people in their circle believe Harry & Chelsy will be together: “You can’t fight true love. We haven’t heard the end of Chelsy, not by a long shot. Harry still holds a candle for her, they talk a lot, and if she initiated it, he would go back to her like a shot.”

Harry sabotages relationships? “There are those who say that the real reason Harry’s subsequent relationships have foundered is because in the back of his mind he is still ‘holding out’ for Chelsy to have a change of heart.”

[From The Daily Beast]

I’ve read a lot of theories that Harry has been holding out for Chelsy this whole time and that if she wanted him again, he would drop everything to be with her. But as time goes on and Harry remains pleasantly single, a bachelor who loves children but who has other things going on in his life, I’m not so sure. I think Harry sort of knows that Chelsy would be a trainwreck royal wife. He’s come to terms with it. And I think he stays single not because he’s pining away for Chelsy and more because he doesn’t want to look for a “suitable bride.”

    We can only hope…

    • nina says:

She wants that ol’ thang back!

Btw, Has anyone heard this girl speak?

    • HH says:

It would be interesting to finally see how Chelsy and Kate really get along. It was rare to see pics of them together outside of a polo match where both the princes were playing. Not that they should be best friends, but they were both in extremely unique positions and it seemed like their would be a lot of comfort in that. It was just a little weird that two very close brothers who are close in age, would have long-term gfs that are no more than minimally acquainted. They don’t have to go on double dates every weekend, but it seems like Chelsy and Kate didn’t chat too much beyond small talk and exchanging pleasantries.

      • Vivee says:

I wouldn’t be so sure that she was close with Kate. Even Harry didn’t know Kate that well at the time of the engagement and he is on tape saying so.

      • HH says:

@Vivee. I know. I was arguing the opposite. I found it odd that she and Kate seemed to be so distant given their unique situations

  2. Maum says:

Actually I don’t think she would be a trainwreck royal bride. She’s wealthy, smart and independent, she seems quite down to earth and self possessed, they move in the same social circles and she’s very discreet.

The only negative about her is her name… 🙂

    • jeanne says:

I agree. I think her vivacious authenticity would endear her to the public because it’s what Harry loves about her and it’s so different than Kate’s rigid facade. If she kept herself in check (meaning the smoking and boozing in control) then I think she could be accepted and loved. And it’s the perfect time really since public opinion has truly turned on the Cambridges.

      • notasugarhere says:

I never saw her boozing to excess, certainly no where near as much as Middleton. She went to law school, worked as a lawyer, is starting her own ethical jewelry line. I think the “Chelsy is a Party Girl” was part-and-parcel of the spare bashing of Harry, so those are the photos that make the rounds. Had to make everyone think she was even worse than Middleton.

      • HH says:

RE: If she kept herself in check (meaning the smoking and boozing in control) >>> People should keep in mind a few things here: 1) The Good Heir/Bad Spare dichotomy extends to their significant others. The press often published the worst photos of Chelsy. And with a dozen or so flashes going off after you’ve had only a few drinks, even a buzzed/slightly tipsy person would have at least one photo where they appear absolutely hammered. Also, Kate’s image was remade to look like she barely partied. Still, there are some unflattering shots of her out with William. 2) These photos were from Chelsy’s undergraduate years. And since then, I haven’t seen any photos such as this, with the exception of her at the wedding. Which, in fairness, was too large of an event to look like she had partied hard the night before (if that was the case). However, it’s still important to remember, we have a public image of Chelsy that was not only manipulated, but was cemented just under a decade ago. As with life, she naturally has grown a lot since then.

      • Erica_V says:

It would be completely unfair to compare the wife of Harry to the wife of William. One is a future king, one is not and the duties of their wives would be very different.

  3. Talie says:

Um, yeah… I think she is more than happy not to have her life and her father’s connections under a microscope.

    • bluhare says:

IF there are torches being held on both their parts for each other, Chelsy’s smart to get her bohemian days under her belt if she and Harry ever do settle down. She won’t have to worry about what she’s missing. But I agree with you, I think her father’s connections would be the big sticking point.

  4. Nancy says:

Cressida is his true love, not the royal’s choice. History repeats itself, Charles loved Camila but married Diana and we all know how that turned out.

    • nina says:

There was no chemistry between him and Cressida, puhlease!

    • Lurker says:

Nah, it’s not Cressida. Cressida is Kate 2.0. Chelsy has spunk and a brain, which is why she doesn’t want to be a Royal.

      • notasugarhere says:

Maxima has spunk and a brain and she LOVES being a royal. Letizia has spunk and a brain, and IMO rolls her eyes that as a Republican, she fell for a prince.

      • Nancy says:

I don’t agree. Kate and Cressida probably don’t even like each other. Cressida is the cool one, not a princess that would make grandma happy. I think Harry was physically the happiest with Cressida, but my vote doesn’t count. He’ll end up with a Chelsy or someone just like her.

      • HH says:

@Nota – In terms of Maxima, the Dutch Royal Family seems WAYYYY more laidback than the BRF. In terms of Letizia, I don’t even know how she puts up with the press.

      • notasugarhere says:

From her career, she knows the difference between journalists vs. the majority of people who attack her constantly in the “press”. Felipe must be worth it.

    • Jade says:

I find Cressida pretty but I have doubts on whether she can be and would be happy being a working royal. I think she likes being an IT girl but not being scrutinised in every way. Which is fine; it’s not for everyone except for the likes of Carole (Karole?) or PMK lol.

    • anne_000 says:

I got the impression what Cressida wanted from Harry was the fame and for him, it was just a physical relationship. From Chelsy, I think they genuinely liked each other on a deeper level and that it was an intellectual, emotional, and physical relationship.

      • bluhare says:

I agree about Cressida’s motivations, anne. I think she was in it to get her name out there too. Perhaps she really did care for Harry, but she certainly had people talking after they broke up.

      • HH says:

Same. And how could we not get that impression when she was plastered everywhere after they broke up? She seemed to be playing her sister Isabella’s game: milk a connection for all it’s worth. It worked out well for them since they are very pretty to begin with.

  5. Tris says:

I don’t know anything about her (except she is OBVIOUSLY not good enough for Harry!!), but she had better get ready for an onslaught of appropriation and colonialism criticism about her “ethnic” jewelry line!

  6. kri says:

Actually, me and Michael K are in a cage match/wine in a box fight to the death to see who gets The Royal Ginge. This Chelsy peasant can slag off.

  7. Bridget says:

I disagree with the last statement, as Harry doesn’t seem to stray far from his social circle when it comes to women. His type seems to be “suitable bride”

  8. Anastasia says:

When I saw the header photo on the homepage, I thought it was Kate Gosselin.

  9. Snarkweek says:

I wish I could sneak up on this story angle and hit it with a hammer. One merciful coup de grace.

    • antipodean says:

@Snarkweek, you are a person after my own heart. Your comment made me snort my morning tea, and not in a good way. You should patent this golden comment, and I would go so far to say that you should take all the gold stars for the day!

  10. Relli says:

    She HAS the crazy eyes.

  11. Jade says:

I won’t lie, it would be interesting to see who he marries. Perhaps a dedicated military lady who has a sense of duty? And can rock updos, a great business suit and walk without clutches.

  12. Ankhel says:

Yeah, no. If anybody’s having second thoughts about the way their life turned out, it sounds like it’s Chelsy. Harry seems happy enough.

  13. jeanne says:

I wonder if she’s making a comeback to Harry. Has anyone else noticed how she’s cleaned up recently? She’s much thinner now, like Kate Middleton skinny and she’s been seen out and about at charity events looking very polished. Far and away more presentable than how hungover she looked at the royal wedding. I can’t help but think (OK, maybe wish) that she’s getting her personal and professional ducks in a row so she can give it a go with Harry again.

And maybe Harry’s showing the Queen how responsible and vital he is in his role taking some of the pressure off of the all or nothing importance of a future wife a.k.a. Chelsy?? Like I said WISHFUL THINKING. Haha

    • KB says:

I’ve never understood why women lose weight to appeal to a man who fell for them when they were a normal size. I don’t think Chelsy is going the Kate Middleton route though, probably just college weight finally coming off.

      • jeanne says:

i agree, chelsy doesn’t seem like the type to lose weight in order to appeal to someone.

  14. Emily says:

Urgh, I used to be on board the whole Harry/Chelsy thing, but it’s seriously time for people to let it go!

    • anne_000 says:

I agree. I don’t see them together as his first wife. Maybe as his unmarried partner after his first divorce.

    • Nightingale says:

For real. I love Chelsy and think she’s awesome but can you imagine being linked to your first bf or gf for the rest of your life?
      Give it up.

  15. Whatabout says:

Oh gosh can you imagine the Queen finding out Chelsy was a dj in Ibiza. Haha the face she would make. Also I’m pretty sure she’s in a serious relationship with some rich jeweler?
I actually think Harry’s become more hippy and is looking for a more hippy chick. But just my outside view.

  16. INeedANap says:

Deleted, thought about it and never mind.

But Team Chelsy. Let’s get some ambitious ladies in those castles.

  17. OTHER RENEE says:

Wonder why she gave up her law practice. Or broke off her engagement.

    • carte blanche says:

      Me too. Need to know.

    • Nic919 says:

Being a solicitor is hard work and takes up a lot of your life. Since she comes from money, she was likely not prepared to do the necessary work to move ahead in law. That said her educational training alone makes her light years ahead of Kate. You don’t usually half ass a law degree and solicitor work.
She would probably be great at public engagements and put Kate to shame…. Which is something that William wouldn’t like and Harry tends to let him shine even when it isn’t deserved.

  18. Paula says:

I never believed that they didn’t get married because she didn’t want to. I actually think she would have been on board? I think they were really in love, but they were too young. And really, the Vegas story happened a year after they broke up and that’s hardly behaviour of someone who allegedly wanted to settle down.

The press likes to revisit the Chelsy story every now and then because they don’t have anything to talk about his love life and this fits the “poor Harry pining for love” narrative.

I feel bad for whoever he marries, if that ever happens. Seems the press will make it look like Chelsy was his true love and he just settled for someone else.

    • anne_000 says:

I think as Harry does more PDA than William does, it’s going to make it look more he’s in love with his wife than William is with Kate. So Harry & Mrs. Harry are going to look continuously like love birds in comparison, so I don’t think the press is going to keep referring back to Chelsy as much as there will be more PDA photos seen of him and Mrs. Harry than there ever were with Chelsy.

    • notasugarhere says:

They broke up in late 2009 or early 2010. Vegas was Fall 2012.

      • Paula says:

Doesn’t really matter, my point still stands. I don’t think he wanted to get married. I’d love to see them together again though.

  19. suze says:

If he had wanted to get back together with her (or Cressida, for that matter), he would have. There is nothing stopping them. All of those folks are single, and have been for some time.

The royal media ia bored and looking for an angle.

  20. Rae says:

I would LOVE to see these two together again, if only for the stark difference between them and WK.

  21. TreadStyle says:

I always felt like she had horrible style and no makeup or not enough makeup (I could never tell which bc she was all one color all the time) so she looked sloppy when she was out, which contributed to her always looking a drunk hot mess. i always thought they must have really hit it off personality wise and maybe that made the connection deeper?

  22. QQ says:

sorry but Chelsy to me looks ROUGH…like always, some variety of bloated/hungover/rich homeless chic or a combo of it all…

    • Senaber says:

She looks like a normal person to me with a skin color found in nature (not orange) and an amount of hair found in typical human follicle range.

I think she looks like a lot of fun and like she probably thinks about things other than her appearance.

    • mayamae says:

Harry seems to go for very average girls, which is great. I never really got Chelsy’s appeal to the public, and she always seems to have her mouth agape, and maybe a wad of chewing gum showing. I remember the Chelsy lovers didn’t seem to care for Cressida, and most often cited Chelsy’s occupation as proof of her superiority. Guess that’s changed now. I do wonder why someone so wealthy deliberately has such unkempt hair and bad dye job.

  23. ladysussex says:

Why would someone give up their career in law to have a jewelry line? And I side eye the phrase “ethical jewelry”. Aside from diamonds and other very precious stones, I’m not aware of any of my jewelry being unethical. It’s like one of those phrases that people use because it’s hip and current, and gives the impression it’s doing good. I have a friend who started an “Eco-tourism” firm, and got a huge grant from US Aid to do it. And you know what it is? Tourism. It has nothing to do with ecology. It’s just straight up tourism to the pyramids and other tourist sites in Egypt and N. Africa. I also have a friend who sells jewelry made by women who’ve escaped abuse and have been taught jewelry making to support themselves. But even she doesn’t promote it as “ethical” jewelry.

    • notasugarhere says:

Are we all required to work in our undergraduate field, or stay in the same career all of our lives? Or just Chelsy?

Maybe after studying and earning the degree, she discovered that practicing law is boring? You can love studying in a field and find working in that field like watching cement dry. Now she’s working on a jewelry line because it interests her. Presumably having a law degree helps her keep her business on the legal up-and-up.

    • Jib says:

I’m a metalsmith, and you can buy ethically mined stones or stones created in a lab, which are identical to natural stones without the slavery and abuse. You can use all recycled gold and silver, so no new mining. I only use recycled silver and ethically mined or created stones.

It’s a very cool idea, and becoming big for those who love jewelry but hate the human and earth’s suffering. Kudos to her!!

    • Paula says:

I don’t see the problem either. I have many friends who would love to pursue a more alternative career and are stuck in offices because they have to support themselves. Her family has a lot of money and she’s well connected, so why not go for it?

      • ladysussex says:

Ok everybody. Really good points! I stand corrected. Thanks for giving differing opinions and new information in a polite, civil way. We can all learn from each other, and understand differing opinions if we remain civil. So many times on this site I’ve expressed a dissenting opinion and then just been blasted by rudeness, so I really appreciate this!

    • Magnoliarose says:

Sometimes I have had to rethink my response or say nothing because I knew I was irritable or knee jerk reacting. Disagreements are fine, even a little heated, but not rudeness. I am a plain speaking person but the written word can make it seem overly blunt sometimes. Or if I’m distracted I don’t qualify enough. I just assume most people mean well unless they are rude.
No worries m’lady even if disagreed with, I’ve never found you rude.

  24. What's inside says:

Poor Harry — always speculation of what an underdog he is in the Games of Thrones, Game of Hearts, and just about any other game he likes to play. I think he is having the time of his life, thrilled he is not going to have to deal with a throne, and can date just about anybody he wants as long as he keeps it out of the news.

  25. Magnoliarose says:

I guess people don’t believe in fond feelings for your old flame and liking them. I think that is all that is going on here. They seemed to have a good time together but they are older now and most likely changed.
I always liked her and her manufactured by others image. I know she was being sabotaged but she still came off charming.
If my ginger sexy goes off with someone else I could give my very important blessing to Chelsy.

  26. cerys says:

I think the Windsor men seem to find one person and then cant seem to move on eg Charles/Camilla, Andrew/Sarah, William/Kate and now Harry/Chelsy. I dont know if it is laziness or lack of imagination. Harry will never find a suitable wife until he loses contact with Chelsy, IMHO
