Charlize Theron in Dior at ‘The Huntsman’ LA premiere: gorgeous or boring?

wenn23736666

Last night was the big LA premiere of The Huntsman: Winter’s War. And it turned out to be all about the ladies, which is really, really nice. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy the fact that Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt all get along so well and seem so supportive of one another. While I think the film looks not-great, it’s worth it just see this promotional tour.

Charlize Theron wore Dior, per usual. If this was a simple, strappy little black dress, I might have liked it. But the nude netting with the insect appliqués? Meh. She does look beautiful though. I wonder if she’s standing there thinking, “I am so much prettier than everyone else!”

Jessica Chastain wore Altuzarra. On someone else (Cate Blanchett?), I might have really liked this. But on Chastain, it seems so boring.

wenn23736623

I was looking through all of the photos of Emily Blunt in this Valentino gown, and I actually think it looked pretty from certain angles. But mostly I want to redo the design… the skirt should be a few inches longer, and the ruffles should be softer and perhaps in a more sheer fabric. I’m assuming Valentino just made a maternity version of what was a traditional dress/gown, and they didn’t take into account that they were making her look bigger.

Chris Hemsworth attended the premiere with his thirsty wife Elsa Pataky. This is the reason why he decided to move his family back to Australia – so Elsa’s thirst could be tamped down.

And here’s Halsey in Labourjoisie. Halsey sings the big song for Winter’s War, a song called “Castle.” I actually sort of like the song, even though it just sounds like Lorde. It seems like Halsey is really trying to get attention as the next big pop star/fashion girl too. Are you buying it?

Pretty AND boring. Her hair and makeup are much better than yesterday’s post, at least.
I absolutely HATE Elsa’s dress. She’s a gorgeous woman but I don’t understand her fashion choices.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I hate it when women pose gazing adoringly at their man when you know they just think their profile is pretty.

      • Kitten says:

Ohhhhh…see, I didn’t even realize that was her game, I just found the photo really barfy.

      • V4Real says:

I think she’s just trying to show the world how much she adores her husband. Like look how much I’m in love with him. Sad thing is he’s not looking back at her. He’s there to promote a movie not the love for his wife.

      • Fanny says:

I thought it was sincere the first 10 or 15 times I saw that pose, but then I realized she does it on every single red carpet.

      • Marty says:

Agreed GNAT, I wouldn’t mind if it was genuine but when it’s the same pose at every premiere it’s obvious it’s rehearsed.

      • Jh says:

        Yep. No chill whatsoever.

      • Magnoliarose says:

Ugh right. And clingy too. Y.U.C.K.

    • FingerBinger says:

I like Elsa’s dress. It’s like a fancy Las Vegas wedding dress.

  2. QQ says:

Charlize and Halsey FTW for me, I still however don’t understand the purpose of this movie

    • V4Real says:

I really don’t get the hype over Charlize’s look. I don’t find her gorgeous. She looks good when her make-up is done right but she isn’t breathtaking. This look isn’t much better than the MTV movie award look.

I adore Emily Blunt and find her really pretty but I don’t like this look on her.

I don’t get the movie either. It’s supposed to take place before Snow White. But tell me how is the Huntsman in it. Is it going to be one of those he already knew the evil Queen and battled her before Snow White. Is it like a prequel because we already know the outcome if so.

      • qwerty says:

Yeah, Charlize is obviously good looking but I certainly don’t see her being the prettiest in this lineup?

      • mee says:

I think Jessica looks fantastic. Charlize unfortunately is looking a bit frumpy and old here.

      • Nina says:

Thank you. I do not find Charlize attractive at all. Jessica, on the other hand, is a beauty.

      • Christin says:

She said in an interview it takes two hours for hair and makeup. A celeb makeup artist recreates one of her red carpet ‘natural’ eye looks online and it takes 20 minutes to do it.

        Good makeup is her ally.

      • Camille says:

I agree V4Real. I also think her acting (exception: Monster), is very over rated as well. She was so cringe worthy in that Snow White movie. No doubt she will be just as awful in this one too.

      • Tara says:

Charlize is gorgeous like a classic beauty. I don’t know what’s up with these comments, but if that’s unattractive, what is most of the world? Most importantly, she’s a great actress.

    • Neelyo says:

Money is the only reason this film exists.

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I loathe that black dress. Loathe it. But yeah, she always looks pretty.

  4. Joss RED says:

Can’t belive Charlize got a tattoo on her arm…

  5. Maya says:

Charlize looks beautiful and has the right hairstyle this time around.

Emily looks glowing but Jessica is the best looking here with that gorgeous gown.

The movie however is plain stupid and I was disappointed. I expected more from these 3 ladies.

PS: maybe Charlize has turned into Queen Ravena and mirror thing. She probably asks the mirror “who is the most beautiful of them all” instead of “who is the fairest of them all”.

  6. sofie says:

I actually think Jessica chastain is much prettier & has more character in her face.

    • qwerty says:

      Chastain is awesome

    • Nina says:

      Yup. Totally agree.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Very pretty woman.

    • ichsi says:

Beautiful woman in a beautiful dress. Nothing boring about her.

    • Christin says:

Definitely has a more lively, charismatic look.

    • Danielle says:

I think this was a rare fashion win for jessica. Love it.

    • Tara says:

Well Jessica has more of a pretty girl next door look. Women are less threatened by her than they would be by a more icy, classic beauty like Charlize, so I’m not surprised they would give her more props. Charlize Is probably the most beautiful actress in Hollywood, but here that hair color is doing no favors. It’s washing her beauty out. Jessica just has better much hair and makeup here.

  7. Jenns says:

    I don’t even recognize Elsa’s face anymore.

  8. Mia4s says:

19% on Rotten Tomatoes. What a waste of three interesting actresses.

Better renew that Marvel contract Hemsworth. It’s pretty clear beyond that no one cares.

    • V4Real says:

The third installment of Thor is coming soon and he’s also in the Infinity War. Outside of Marvel his movies doesn’t do that all that well. It’s like they’re trying to make him happen but he just can’t get there.

      • Marty says:

Speaking of Thor, people are already pissed that Tessa Thompson got cast as his love interest for the next installment.

      • Mewsie says:

Why are people upset? My question would be, why does Thor even need a love interest? Isn’t he supposed to die in Ragnarok?

      • V4Real says:

@Marty I’m guessing that’s because she’s a person of color. But I too wish Natalie Portman had stayed on as Jane. But I think she lost interest in playing Jane.

@Mewsie no harm. I understand where you’re coming from below.. And yes Thor dies in Ragnarok, kind of. He is either thought dead or he’s somewhere in limbo. In the comics Pym also cloned Thor well it was Skrull masquerading as Hank Pym . But who knows Marvel always change their storyline a bit for the movies. Remember it was Pym, not Stark who created Ultron.

      • LAK says:

V4Real: Natalie Portman didn’t want to do THOR 2 after the first outing. She was quite public about her contempt for the genre, and only appeared in no 2 to fulfil contractual obligation.

    • Mewsie says:

We’re laughing and joking but the man is taking millions of dollars home for every new movie, no matter how badly it bombs. He HAS happened. And because I guess he is an easy-going, non-problematic guy to work with, directors keep handing him movies that he can torpedo. He CAN act. He just hasn’t bothered to since 2013.

      • V4Real says:

No one is saying he can’t act. No one is saying he’s problematic. I’m a huge Hemsworth fan and have made many posts showing that I am. It’s not about taking home millions, a lot of actors do that and their movies still are not that great. What I’m saying is that they seem to be trying to make him the next Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp or Leo and it’s just not happening.

No one is talking about how much money he brings home. But if you want to talk dollars let’s do that. Heart of the Sea made a little over 11 million dollars on opening weekend. That’s horrible when knowing that the budget was 100 million dollars. Red Dawn made 14 million on opening weekend on a 65 million dollar budget. Rush made a bit over 187 thousand dollars on opening weekend. This was on a 38 million dollar budget. Black Hat made over 4 million on opening weekend on a 70 million dollar budget. So what I mean by trying to make him happen is that they are trying to make him a big star off the success of Marvel but it’s not working because he really can’t open a big movie outside of the MCU on his name alone.

      • CornyBlue says:

He really cannot. And if he can and is not acting that does not act. He throws racist themed parties so not exactly non-problemtaic

      • Mewsie says:

@V4Real Sorry if I came across too confrontational… I basically agree wholeheartedly with you, and what I was trying to say was that Hollywood tries to make Chris happen because he is really strong in the looks department.

He’s also incredibly resistant to all the abuse they put his body through so they will use that as long as possible. I know olympic athletes who died of a sudden heart attack from gaining muscle mass and losing it within a year. That shit is dangerous.

But I also think he has reached his goals, so from his point of view, he has happened. He wants attention, but on his terms. He wanted a family life, but on his terms (hence the move back to Oz). He is still being paid outrageously much for someone who doesn’t put in the effort to warrant all that trust and excitement from money-driven executives.

He is still the media’s sweetheart and no one addresses the fact that he’s had terrible project choices one after the other. People are just really big suckers for good looks I guess. Myself included.

@CornyBlue The racist theme party was his wife’s idea, she is the one with a long history of racism and cultural insensitivity (which everyone lets slide, because again, OMG she’s so beautiful! As if beautiful people cannot also be A-holes). And I almost forgave Chris for tagging along until I remembered that he is his own man and he could have said something if he really cared. But I guess the only thing he does care about is keeping her happy.

      • SKF says:

A lot of people outside the U.S. don’t understand that dressing up as Cowboys and Indians is now frowned upon. A lot of people inside the U.S. too! Now they’ve lived there, so they should know; but unless they read in the right places or are told, they probably don’t know. I assume they’re pretty wrapped up in their own lives and Chris works all the time. I don’t think it was an intentionally racist or malicious choice. Just ignorant. I think the best thing to do is educate such people as to why it is not okay to wear a fake Native American headdress etc as a costume. If you attack them they’ll just get defensive. Some people don’t want to know or don’t care, and in that case, for sure, attack away. My method is to gently explain to people and give them a chance to back away and make better choices.

      • CornyBlue says:

@SKF if it was any other country i would understand but Australia as a country has their own indigenous population which the whites have tortured and subverted so yes, Chris must know this. If thos was someone who is sheltered and was not aware that such thongs existed sure i get what you are saying but not someone with million and one ways to educate themselves if they wanted to lmao

      • Mewsie says:

@CornyBlue Thanks for saying it so succinctly! I wrote a half a page comment in the same vein but it got lost when I refreshed or something. I like Chris and I think he knows better, and the fact that he’s busy doesn’t really excuse being insensitive. Also, the “explain nicely until they get it” doesn’t really always work, not when your people get mistreated daily for the same culture privileged whites play with.

    • lucy2 says:

That’s a bummer – the cast is excellent, it was nice to have 3 really talented women as the leads. I might still go see it, just for the visuals.

  9. Jsilly4e says:

They all look beautiful. I don’t like the sheer fabric on Charlize’s dress.

I think this is the best Jessica Chastain has looked in ages. She is glowing. I really feel she needs a new stylist though.

Emily Blunt is glowing too. I just feel her dress should have been longer, it looks like her belly is pulling up the front of the dress. Maybe since her body is changing all the time due to the pregnancy it looks different from the fitting?

Elsa looks like she’s wearing a costume of a figure skater. I don’t like it at all. She’s a beautiful woman with a beatiful body and has money, she couldn’t find something better???

Never heard of Halsey, I’m off to google her music. But I think she looks beautiful. Dress fits her like a glove. ETA: I am sick of seeing underwear through sheer dresses though. Great body or not.

  10. CornyBlue says:

Chastain’s dress is so damn pretty
Charlize’s dress is bad but its Dior so it is expected. But she is so fucking beautiful damn

  11. Capepopsie says:

    Team Charlize!
    Pitty they put the netting
    And insects in the dress,
    Though.

  12. lisa says:

dont wear illusion fabric unless you are skating your long program

and even then i can do without it

  13. Esmom says:

I think Jessica and Halsey’s gowns are beautiful but too formal, they look like Oscar-wear. Elsa’s just look like budget bridal. I like Emily’s accessories and hair and makeup. CHemsworth looks good with a beard.

I think Charlize looks the least interesting of the bunch. And I can’t shake the feeling that the others are just tolerating her presence, lol.

  14. Marty says:

Love Chastain, but her dress here is not great. She looks better in simpler designs.

    • tracking says:

She’s beautiful, but never seems to get the silhouette quite right.

    • Mewsie says:

I don’t think what they wear at these events is entirely up to them.
And Jessica looks great, but she doesn’t do the usual strategic poses we got used to seeing the other female celebrities in. She’s not self-monitoring on the red carpet and I think that’s great.

  15. Mewsie says:

Charlize looks a bit done with the whole thing… and is it just me or is she getting the crappier Dior outfits while JLaw gets to pick from the nicest ones?

Jessica Chastain is such a gorgeous, stylish sight. I love her fashion sense, and I know that here she maybe went with a stylist’s input, but in random sighting pics she is always wearing something extremely chic and quirky. I’m just really sorry she was dragged into this Huntsman mess. I was so disappointed in the movie. We were about 15 people in the cinema and many of them walked out. Jessica can do way, way better! And so can Charlize, although I don’t like her in interviews.

What is going on with Chris though, his trousers look really silly and ill-fitting.

I will forever wonder about the world’s worship for Elsa, who seems to live for these red carpet events only and who always looks at Chris like he’s a bling accessory. Jessica, Charlize and Emily get so much criticism and mean comments about their persons and their work, yet Elsa seems to have the entire world’s sympathy… I don’t get it.

    • chelsea says:

Have you seen the kind of stuff they’ve been putting on JLaw?

      • Mewsie says:

The stuff she chooses is pretty wacky, yeah. But some of the stuff they choose for her is stunning.

    • KB says:

Jessica Chastain and Cate Blanchett share a stylist, Elizabeth Stewart.

    • CornyBlue says:

Literally no one worships Elsa. No one knows her. Where are you getting this from ?

      • Mewsie says:

@CornyBlue My life is not the most action-packed, so I noticed that the Daily Mail are viciously mean to every female celebrity, except to Elsa. Now media and fans alike are buying this Earth Mother/Environmentalist/Fitness goddess persona hook line and sinker, although she wears fur and leather with impunity, she rudely bashes vegans, she promotes a racist Byron Bay clothing brand, she does promo for a really shady NGO and she bought a teacup piglet (which is a product of extreme cruelty for the sake of money and playing God).

And there is nothing inspiring about someone who insists her body is the result of only hard work when all of Spain and France saw her change from one weekend to the next and when her plastic surgery scars are still visible.

Meanwhile readers and editors at the Daily Mail bashed Jessica Chastain for wearing a vinyl coat at a public appearance (how dare she not wear leather?!) and called her “Crimson Beak” when she wore red lipstick last week. The difference in tone is striking, at least to me.

I got sent some really upsetting messages on Tumblr when I said that Elsa defending “humane slaughter” and industrial fishing has NOTHING to do with environmentalism.

  16. DG says:

I think Jessica Chastain is by far the most gorgeous in this group. She has such presence on screen, I can’t take my eyes off her.

  17. perplexed says:

Chastain is shorter, but she looks prettier than Theron here.

  18. TheGrandSophy says:

The hair is better than yesterday’s knot updo, however, something about the cut of the dress makes her look somewhat mannish, which is unfortunate for this beauty to end all beauties (sarcasm).

  19. Kelly says:

I thought all the other dresses were gorgeous. Pretty done with Theron. She’s heading into the Gwyneth zone.

  20. Miss M says:

Chastain is glowing! One wonders if it is pregnancy glow…

    • Mewsie says:

Pregnancy is not the only thing that makes women glow… what if she’s just happy and healthy? She’s been a vegan for a long time, that tends to translate into youthful, glowy looks.

  21. Jegede says:

I actually like Emily Blunt’s dress. Love the ethereal look to it.

    • tracking says:

      +1

    • lizabeth says:

Me too, and I like the styling with the necklace.

Charlize is bugging me with her bug appliqué dress. She’s so gorgeous that she almost makes it work, but I want more for her! I want her to kill on the red carpet, and recently she’s been disappointing.

I’m thinking Jessica is probably pregnant.

  22. Elisa the I. says:

I saw the film yesterday and quite enjoyed it, it was surprisingly funny. Theron looks amazing in it!
And I don’t get the hype when it comes to Hemsworth – he is an awful actor (good-looking, tough).

  23. lucy2 says:

I think they all look good – not crazy about Charlize’s dress or the singer’s with the sheer skirt, but I really like Jessica’s.

  24. Magnoliarose says:

They look fine(except Elsa).Nothing mind blowing but nothing terrible. I do think Jessica and Halsey are a little overdressed but it is a fairytale themed movie so it makes sense.
Chris meh. Always meh. His dehydrated wife is too much. She made Adrian Brody foolish and she does the same for Chris. Just sucks whatever they had going on straight out of them. Apparently she’s wearing her Ice Dancing dress from the Winter Olympics several years ago. Way to recycle Patacky. Doing her part for the environment, bless her.

    • Sulay says:

Chris is not attractive to me, his wife sticky thirsty, your purpose in life is to draw attention, lack of talent that the two are so empty inside, a dull marriage.

  25. Sulay says:

    Me gusta sus vestidos

  26. A mascarada says:

Elsa might be very thirsty, but her dress is gorgeous. Best dressed.
    Charlize… meh
Jessica… always the most beautiful gal around.

  27. Cranberry says:

Wow! And I’ve been over there ripping on Hiddles’ socks all day. At least he doesn’t look as bad as this.

    • Cranberry says:

Oops! Wrong thread. This was supposed to be on Charlize / MTV Awards thread. Sorry.

Emily, Charlize and especially Jessica look divine. I applaud their choices. Elsa’s dress is terrible.

  28. donna says:

I think that Elsa is beautiful. I hope they make it, I like them together and I think he’s one of the good ones.

  29. LAK says:

I rarely love RC outfits, but I love the first 3 looks. I can stretch to the bottom lady’s dress. Definitely dislike Elsa’s dress.

  30. Tredd says:

Regardless of how many times she says it, ol’ Chaz isn’t as beautiful as she thinks she is.

    • Tara says:

She didn’t say that. She was misquoted. She is obviously gorgeous, but of course when a woman is on a pedestal for being beautiful, people want to knock her down and find flaws.

  31. Joh says:

Charlize does not do it for me.
The one strap down situation is just too try hard.

  32. Cranberry says:

I agree with Kaiser about Emily’s dress. It would have been better a few inches longer or shortened to mid-calf or higher.

  33. Cranberry says:

    wrong place

  34. Tara says:

I think Charlize’s hair is too blonde. She needs to go for golden blonde, not platinum blonde. Platinum blonde ages her. I can’t stand the bugs either on her dress.

Oh and Charlize confirmed just what I’ve been saying. She’s been misquoted with that recent pretty people quote and taken out of context. I know some of you are going to say she’s lying because you want to burn the ice queen, but I could tell the media took it completely out of context with their headlines. People should stop trusting what these magazines put out there out of context to get attention.

  35. Dani says:

I am sooo over Halsey. I remember her being thirsty AF on Tumblr and trying so hard to be cool and discovered. Everything she ‘stood’ for before she became mainstream has faded and pushed away all of the fans who actually made her famous. Shame.
