Bazaar has a new “day in the life” feature with Liv Tyler. Tyler is currently pregnant with her third child. She made the announcement in January so I assume she’s due sometime this summer. I love Liv but the hourly play-by-play she gave Bazaar of her average day is a bit exhaustive. She divides her time between New York, where she lives when she’s filming, and London, where her fiancee, David Gardner, is currently living. She told Bazaar that she spends about a week in London every month and is moving there in September. The nice thing about Liv is that she gushes about the people who work for her, including her assistant, trainer and chef, and mentions them all by name. She also owns up to some seriously indulgent practices including two hour baths every night and hiring a manicurist to come over after her kids are asleep. She lives a charmed life.
On being pregnant
I’m pregnant now, I’m allowed to eat what I want, which is really fun. It’s crazy—I’ve been pregnant for two years straight. I feel more balanced when I’m pregnant, strangely, and less pressured. It’s like a nine-month vacation when I can prioritize being home. Her fitness routine
In New York I work out with my trainer, David Kirsch, either in the morning or later on. Since I’m pregnant again, we do light weights and the medicine ball, but I take it easy. Her assistant helps her with her work with fashion brand Belstaff
She was Alexander McQueen’s assistant until he passed away, so she’s great at helping me understand the fashion side of things. Her afternoons
In New York, I have this incredible cook and superwoman, Claudia, so I’ll eat at home and run errands while Sailor napsShe loves to take photos
I take hundreds of photos every day and send David tons of videos of Sailor doing something crazy, like right now he’s whirling a pot around. I also love to FaceTime with my grandmother. She is so sweet with her correspondence. She calls me “Baby Girl,” which became “BG,” and signs her texts “With devotion.”She takes two hour baths at night and watches movies while she’s in the tub
I’m a major bath person. It’s a full-on couple-hour process every night, while the boys watch football or after they go to sleep. I add salts and Kneipp oil to the water, put a face mask on, and exfoliate my skin with gloves. I wash my hair with Pantene every other day unless I have gorgeous hair left over from an event… I can read a script in one bath, and sometimes I’ll pull up a stool and watch a movie on my computer while I soak. She drinks wine with her manicurist at night
My favorite thing is to get my nails done or get a facial. Nobody can find you for an hour. This amazing woman Gina comes to the house and does my nails while the kids are asleep, and we sit on the couch and drink wine.
Liv’s life sounds amazing and I enjoyed how grateful she is for all the people who help her out. I can’t believe she takes two hour baths every night that’s incredible. Also, I just learned a life hack for watching movies in the tub – get a stool and put your computer next to the bath. I’ve never thought of that, although I can only bathe for about 20 minutes before guilt sets in and I start thinking of all the things I have to do. Liv also says that she does transcendental meditation for about 20 minutes every night. She enjoys her down time that’s for sure.

Love her. She has such a down to earth woman vibe. Also still gorgeous.
My friend just worked on a film with her. Liv was described as “Sweet, but crazy and very insecure.”
I can see the insecure part. But crazy? I’d like to hear why your friend said that.
Was she pregnant? I’m pretty crazy and insecure and falling all over myself to be nice when I’m knocked up too 😀
Ah, to be rich. I would love to be able to spend my free time relaxing instead of staying up late to clean the bathroom and do laundry.
She sounds like she’s easy to work for.
Crap. You just reminded me I have to do laundry today.
Bath? What is this thing called “bath”?
Wow. Two hour baths every day? With two kids? She is doing something very right. I have one two year old and he barely allows me to take a shower, that is unless I draw cars on steam while showering
Haha I feel you @SM. My two year old likes to stand outside the shower and open and close the door repeatedly while I’m in there. And throw various objects in to get wet. Toys, phones etc. So showers are not enjoyable much less relaxing. They are mostly as quick as I can make them
Oh my God, if he threw things in addition to that into the shower I would probaby stop showering all together. And that sounds cute but in real life it’s not cute, it’s stressful
I do a (regular person) version of this most nights. I prop my phone on the edge of the tub (a disaster waiting to happen, but it’s meant to be waterproof) and watch Frasier while I soak.
I never make it more than an episode or two before I get bored though. I like to exfoliate, use special salts, and face masks, and it really helps me to sleep better.
Now I just need to find someone to cook for me and do my nails…
I enjoy a nice bath as well, but how do you keep the water from getting too cold to enjoy it for more than 15 minutes?
You let a little out and then refill with hot. If I am going to bathe I spend at least an hour. I take books though, not movies.
Ah, ok. That makes sense. I thought maybe there was a magical type of tub or product that helped keep the water hot.
I tried reading once, but I ended up dropping it in the water. So now I just listen to music 😝
I hate baths. I can’t sit still long enough to enjoy them. I sent the husband to Lush for some more shampoo (he’s taking a course in the city 3 hours from our town) and the retail associate showed him some bath bombs – so now I have two bath bombs sitting on the counter one that “Make really cool colors” and one “For your crappy arthritis” haha. This means I’m now obligated to attempt to enjoy baths.
Me too. This post is timely for me because I hadn’t taken a bath in over two years and the past two Sundays I’ve taken one in Epsom Salts and some eucalyptus bath stuff because my muscles have been so sore from all my races.
I brought my ipad in with me and watched Hart of Dixie so I wouldn’t get completely bored but even then, I couldn’t last more than 15, 20 minutes.
Then again, I’m taking a bath in a Boston rental, you know? I bet Liv has a huge luxurious bathtub, candles, and all the amenities.
I can’t do baths in my tub either. But a nice jacuzzi tub is another story!
Our area’s newer houses are coming with these “soaker tubs” that we thought were ridiculous wastes of space and total status symbols but … you know, as long as they’re there…
But it’s not so much the tub size – having a lot of dry surface area next to the tub seems key to success!
I’ve had 3 baths in this century so far. Dislike them intensely.
I found it so interesting that the daugther of Steven Tyler and a former groupie could stayed this normal. Like she is acting since 20 years and I don’t remember any scandalous things about her. Always behaved well, always acted nice. The celebrity world would be way better if there would be more people like Liv Tyler among them
Two hours every night? Nah. But I’m a huge bath person, and it’s usually a half hour to an hour when I do take a bath. No TV, but a great album playing is my thing.
Stealing Beauty is an all time (and unlikely) favourite movie of mine. I saw it at just the right age, as I am about the same age as Liv, so I felt I could identify with her coming-of-age in the movie. I have always envied her long, lanky limbs and gawky elegance. I wish her only good things. And I love baths too.
I love love that movie too. It makes me want to run away to Italy and live in a big rambling house and have a stream of family and friends come visit ….
A legit dream of mine too, thanks to that movie. And Tuscany is that beautiful, we’ve been 3 times so far, and more to come in the future I hope!
I can’t take a bath for that long… Well, I currently don’t have a bath, but when I do take the time to bath, it’s going to be 20 to 30 minutes. Maybe one day when I no longer have to worry so much about my bills, and live in a house with a full bath, I’ll try again.
I mean it is nice for her and all but if she is having all these baths and massages and facials and manis every night, there must be a nanny around that she doesn’t mention. Sorry, but there is zero chance of having two kids fall asleep and stay asleep that early every night that you can have so many hours to yourself.
And what exactly is she is in these days, to afford chefs and home beauty visits and so on? Serious question, no snark. I actually like her a lot, but she doesn’t strike me as busy with her acting career….
Her Dad might give her a little allowance, he must be loaded.
She was in the leftovers.
She sure has some time for herself, but for some reason I’m taking it as aspirational and am not jealous. She knows how to take care of herself and not feel embarrassed about it. Also, wasn’t her mother a model? Wouldn’t she have learned a lot about physical self-care from her?
She probably has help- but I don’t think that’s true. My baby is a good sleeper and I’m free to do as i like at home between 7 pm and 6am every day.
I doubt she means every SINGLE night. I can’t lie, I’ve done that bath thing too. I have a husband and 3 sons. While they’re doing their boy stuff I’d pull up a stool and watch on my laptop. If your a bath person, Liv’s bath routine is a must try! Spoil yourselves ladies❤
The only thing stopping me is keeping the water at the boiling temp I love!
I used to take 1-2 hour baths a night and do all my school studying in them (I made myself a little desk out of a shelf) and it was the best. It doesn’t cost substantially more or less than a shower and it was so soothing and relaxing. I love that she does the bathing multi-task too – and I feel like people are overlooking the part where she’s said that she also reads a script in the bath. She gets shit done and/or relaxes at the same time.
It seems she’s living the life. A bath is really relaxing. Now does adding all those salts and everything to the water make it so you’re not wrinkling up your skin?
doesn’t the water get cold after 2 hours?? and of course she has nanny, all celebs do.
My husband does that and it drives me nuts. Like I rarely have the time for a movie or a bath, so while I’m making dinner or messing with kids homework, he’s soaking and watching Indiana jones for the thousandth time.
i’m one of the Crazy Bath People, I LOOOVE to take baths with the hottest water possible and some oil and i do the movie thing or bluetooth my sexy spotify playlists and scrub and stuff like that, she speaks my Language
On another related note so I WASN’T crazy when i was shocked she was pregnant “still” this is another baby from the newish dude!
Oh yeah! For me it’s old jazz. But a bath with candles and a Lush bath bomb, and the nice tunes. Even better if you have something “medicinal” to smoke. It doesn’t get any better than that!
MAAM! YOU SPIED ON ME!!! and a lil moscato to go with that smoking thing you said!!!?!? OOOOHHH and the face masks and so on..>! GLORAY
Whaaaaat??
Have OB/GYNs changed recommendations of abstaining from alcohol during pregnancy? Are they now saying one once in a while in the last trimester is okay? Surely no one suggests drinking a bit in the first trimester during rapid development is acceptable ? This is kind of baffling to me.
The occasional glass of wine is supposed to be acceptable.
Maybe she was thinking more about her pre-pregnancy times…I hope.
Not true. Even a small amount of alcohol can cause severe damage to the baby.
In France they will laugh at you if you say you can’t have wine when your pregnant. A glass every now and then is fine, they say.
Considering Liv isn’t French and doesn’t live in France, who cares what the French would do in this scenario?
I have to assume she has more hired help than she lets on. There must be a nanny involved. I can’t see taking 2-hours baths every night (she does say she does this every night), mani’s and pedi’s, movies, meditation….
She has always seemed humble and kind. I like her vibe. I just can’t indulge in my own wants that much on a regular basis. I would feel guilty doing what she does more than once a week. There is too much to do in my mind so hours of relaxing just seems unproductive and over-indulgent. But then, that’s why I think she must have a nanny.
Bathing = wallowing in your own filth. They aren’t for me. I like a shower.
It’s fine that they’re not for you, but unless you go a week or two at a time between baths (and showers), you aren’t “wallowing in your own filth”.
I love her, she gets even more beautiful with age, she’s not completely airbrushed/posed in life – She is candid, unpretentious & has a personality without oversharing (*cough gwen stefani cough*).
My sister & I have a saying “I’d have a beer with her” when referring to a celeb that seems totally cool & down to earth, like we could shoot the shit with them in real life.
I’d have a beer with Liv.
I’m starting to become very concerned about this new wave of celebrity endorsement of Transcendental Meditation (TM), first by Kate Hudson, now by Liv Tyler. It’s a cult.
For the interested critical minds, I recommend googling “Transcendental Meditation” in combination with key words such as “cult”, “fraud”, or “criticism”, or to start one’s reading on Steve Hassan’s (a world-renowned cult expert) website Freedom of Mind.
https://www.freedomofmind.com/Info/infoDet.php?id=469
I am scared by this. A friend of mine got sucked into Transcendental Meditation and she’s basically gone. Her critical faculties have been noticeably altered. Mind control sucks.
you’re absolutely right. note how many celebrities get into it, and how the technique is so strongly keep secret until you pay big money to get an instructor. It’s, just like Xenu: all about money, all about recruiting people using celebs to sell it t the public
I love baths. I take a shower probably 3 days a week and a bath 2-3 days a week. I like to soak with my bath pillow and a glass of wine. I use Epsom salts and bubble bath, and sometimes add Vitamin E oil to the bath as well. The Epsom salts really help with my bad back and muscle aches that I get from a car accident. I also like just being by myself for a while. It’s only my husband and I in my house but even so I like to have just strictly me time. Mine are usually about 45 minutes which really gives the Epsom salts time to work.
she’s lucky her kids are always napping because for what she says she does a hell of a lot things while they’re sleeping: the baths, the scripts, the movies, the nails, the facials, the wine and the errands all while she has two, to three if you add her fiance’s son from his previous relationship, at home. She’ generous naming her staff but probably has failed to credit the more important person of it: her nanny (or probably nannies) I really hate to threw shade to someone as sweet and innocuous as Liv, but she seems pretty much a naive in her bubble of privilege. Also: that fiancee of hers rubs me the wrong way: he seems to link himself to wealthy women and seems to love the high life and partying too much, I see poor Liv getting her heart broken and raising two kids co parenting with this guy, who btw, dated such a specimen as Rita Hora.
Well when she has this one she will be raising 3 kids. I’m kind of iffy about that guy too. She has had or will have 2 babies in less than 2 years. That is really quick considering how old her oldest son is.
Regarding Help.. I think if most people looked at their daily lives they get help too; grand parents, friends, daycare, neighbors, sitters.. so there is nothing wrong with having help if you can pay for it. If someone came to anyone and said I pay for you to have a Nanny; everyone would jump on that like mad. I have friends that are not celebrities who have nannies.. That is life.
I went through some major personal drama for about 6-7 weeks earlier this year when Mr. Dirty Martini and I separated. (We’ve since reconciled — yeah!). Two hour hot whirlpool baths each night with essential oil and wine kept me sane and out of jail. They weren’t a luxury…….they were a necessity for my well being. So I totally relate. Of course my one and only offspring is 22 years old and on the other side of the world.
I can relate to the bath thing. Thank goodness for iPads! But pre-iPads, I always had loong cable cord and dragged TV into the bathroom. I dim the lights, light candles, wine, bath oils, movie and I’m set for HOURS. And I keep the water HOT and steamy. You just run straight hot water every 15 minutes or so.
Also, I have a 15 month old that sleeps from 7-7.
Traveling husband and no night nanny. So I have plenty of time to do it – if I want.
But I like to catch up on sleep – so bath times are limited.
However, years ago – I did do them everyday. (Sigh)
Btw- as a NYC – that’s pretty much the life there. You don’t have to be wealthy to have someone come do your nails and have someone cook a meal or 2 (call them a chef if you like), and assist you.
Although, I do think she’s doing pretty well and getting job perks.
She looks great, and seems to have the life anyone would love. The only piece I can relate to is her TM practice. I learned over 10 years ago – best thing I ever learned…I saved my money because I wanted to learn a meditation technique (i tried MANY over the years) where I was taught by someone who have been properly trained and could offer guidance. I got that and more. LOVE my TM practice and I have a wee smile to myself when I hear/see folks complain about the cost of learning, when they order daily lattes or glasses of wine. …that stuff adds up and ends up in the toilet (so to speak) where as my TM practice is something I will have for the rest of my life. Seriously the best self care tool in my bag of tricks.
