Kate Beckinsale in orange at the Newport Film Festival: lovely or overdone?

Kate Beckinsale was one of the honorees at the Newport Film Festival over the weekend. She was dressed in an orange belted skirt with a high side ruffle paired with a white silk camisole top. Kate has switched up her style somewhat lately. She used to look overdone for just about every event but she’s been toning it down. I think ever since she split with husband Len Wiseman she’s loosened up a little, although she does love her sequins. I like this top and skirt together, the ruffle is bizarre but it’s just one detail on an overall clean look. I wonder about those ropey green heels, like I can’t decide if they’re daring or fug with that skirt. Maybe if they were a less pastel shade of green I would like them better. Also, I’m so happy that natural toenails are in now. That’s so low maintenance.

Kate was given the “Woman of Distinction Award for Outstanding Contribution to Acting.” She’s mostly known for Underworld , but she does do a lot of independent films too, which is the focus of the festival. Her new movie is Love and Friendship, co-starring Chloe Sevigny, which is out May 13th. It’s a period comedy based on a Jane Austen novella called Lady Susan, and it looks funny. Kate also has a new interview with LA Confidential in which she talks about the Underworld franchise and about how it pushes her out of her comfort zone. You can read that here. She also said that she has a tendency to stay in and has to force herself to be social.

I have to say something about Kate’s face. She looks markedly different than she did a couple of years ago. We first noticed that she was getting injectables in early 2014. It does seem to have settled a little, but she still looks Botoxy. Lovely, but Botoxy.

Here are some other attendees, including Rita Moreno looking like a boss, Kate Lowes and Maggie Grace.

You know, I really liked this look on her… until I saw the teal sandals.

Rita Moreno is 84 years old. And still working. Rita for the win.

  3. Alix says:

The sandals are majorly fug. Moreno looks like a million bucks!

I wish she would allow her face to age. She’s so beautiful, her face would surely mature beautifully on its own. I hate the frozen look these women aquire instead of letting nature happen as it will.

Anyway, if I put a pair of shoes on my feet and half my toes were jumping ship like that I would never wear them out. Couldn’t she get the shoes in her size? That closeup of her feet is just freaky!

I’m constantly amazed by how many women hang ten over their sandals…

I know! That must be so uncomfortable. If I loved those shoes (I don’t) and I tried them on I would be disappointed, but I’d keep looking. They don’t fit. It looks crazy.

Everyone always says how beautiful she is, and I just don’t see it. She’s attractive for sure, but like…normal person attractive? Idk, I just don’t see a great beauty.

Don’t like the top part-looks cheap-but I love the skirt and the shoes (just not together). And I’m so glad to see Maggie Grace getting work! I have so much residual affection for all the Lost cast members.

I don’t like ‘neutral’ toe nail polish. It just looks like the nail is infected with fungus to me. Colour, or no colour – grand, but solid matte skin colour just looks icky. To me.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I have to agree. If she didn’t want a color to take away from the sandal color, clear polish would have been better than that putty color. It doesn’t look good with her skin tone, plus, like you said, fungus. 😳

I don’t really care for that either, especially on toes.

Even at a fairly casual event like this, Kate manages to look overdone. I just don’t think “carefree” is in her wheelhouse. Rita looks amazing and Maggie gets the fresh look just right, imo.

Love the shoes, love the color of the skirt, do not love the top. It looks like a poorly fitting negligee.

Re plastic surgery, I think Kate was and still is very beautiful. She may have had some botox but the cheek fillers have settled to more human proportions and thank goodness no trout pout.

I get the idea of the contrast between the skirt and sandals, but it’s just a bit much. Kate looks great though, and I’ve liked her in a lot of the indie movies she’s done, hope she starts working more.
    Rita looks amazing!

Everything about Kate’s look is slightly off. I like orange and teal together, but the teal is a shade too light to make it work. The skirt is almost ok, but the ruffle. The shoes are almost okay but they don’t fit and there are so many ropes they look heavy and don’t flatter her legs. Overall, I think it’s a miss.

Rita looks amazing. I have a similar skirt and a white blazer and I’m totally going to copy her the next time I go somewhere where you would wear a blazer and a long skirt. Hmm. Can’t think of anywhere, but maybe I will get invited to an awards ceremony. Maybe.

My money’s on Kate Beckinsale to be Mrs. Affleck #2.

I like her outfit minus the belt and the shoes. I adore her ever since Underworld. 🙂

Always liked her classy kind of looks, and I like the ensemble except for the shoes, The top and skirt have a nice easy flow to them and the sandals look tortured by comparison. Should have gone for strappy black or white heels and saved the turquoise for earrings . . . You never want to rivet the eyes downward instead of upward . . . but hey that’s just me.

This seems likes a casual event but Lowes really sticks out. Like she forgot that she was invited and just showed up.

Does anyone know who her plastic surgeon and dermatologist. I haven’t seen anyone else aging this well.
