Elizabeth Olsen: ‘I just don’t have any desire for… celebrity & fame’

wenn23670737

Sorry not sorry, but I love this ^^ photo. Elizabeth Olsen just looks so full of herself, which – if I’m being honest – is how I think she looks normally. She always seems pretty pleased with herself. On one side, good for her! I hate when confident, self-assured people feel the need to feign humility. On the other side, Olsen does come across as haughty… sometimes. Like when she played word games about her relationship with Tom Hiddleston. Or when she’s dumping Boyd Holbrook on the same day his best friend died. Anyway, I was thinking about all of that when I read some excerpts from Olsen’s recent Sunday Times Style magazine interview.

On stardom: “I wanted to be an actress, but felt it was such a cliché. I thought if I could make it more of a pretentious theatre experience, I could justify it. But celebrity and fame are so odd to me, I just don’t have any desire for that at all.”

Watching her sisters: “I saw what they did as a job. I never saw it as something special; it was work. That’s meant I have quite a healthy relationship with the industry. They did experience a lot of pressure as kids, but now, with social media, everyone is experiencing that.”

She doesn’t want to be on social media: “I think that’s another reason why I don’t want to do all that, because I want to be able to just be. I’d rather disappear into my breakfast nook and read the news and drink coffee than flick through Instagram.”

[From The Sunday Times via the Belfast Telegraph]

“Celebrity and fame are so odd to me, I just don’t have any desire for that at all…” says the woman who signed up to play Scarlet Witch in the Marvel movies. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a real actress who has toiled away in indie films and small, dramatic roles for years. But no actor signs a Marvel contract to avoid fame and celebrity. No actor signs a Marvel contract because they just want to do lower profile work. As for her shade for social media… I don’t really get it? She has an Instagram and she’s pretty active. But one of the last times she appeared on someone else’s social media, it’s was because she visited Tom Hiddleston on the Hawaii set of Kong: Skull Island and she posed for photos with Tom and Brie Larson and Tom’s fans lost their minds. So maybe that’s what the “flick through Instagram” shade was about.

Update: there’s some question about whether Olsen really runs that Instagram account – the account it links to on Twitter is unverified and it’s totally possible that someone else runs it. The reason why I thought Olsen was doing it was because there seemed to be some exclusive-ish behind-the-scenes images and videos, but I have no idea.

Here are some photos of Olsen at Tuesday’s London premiere of Captain America: Civil War. Her dress is McQueen. Don’t those photographers know that she has no desire to be a famous celebrity?!

She needs better people. That’s the complete wrong thing to say, period for the reasons stated above. I expect backtracking soon.

  2. Tiffany27 says:

She looks like Michelle Pfeiffer at a quick glance.
As far as her comments, she talks like people know her…..

    • Me says:

If she looks like Michelle then I look like Mila Kunis. No offence, but Michelle was a goddess at her age. Olsen is just Olsen… 😂

      • Solanacaea (Nighty) says:

This,,,, Michelle Pfeiffer was and is outrageously beautiful…

      • Clairej says:

Michelle is the person I am completely envious of and would want to look like, to me she is heavenly. In ‘The Fabulous Baker Boys’ she was to die for!!

      • cyn says:

The little girl who plays Sabrina Kyle on Gotham looks like Michelle Pfeiffer to me. She is breathtakingly beautiful.

  3. The McQueen dress is awesome. I want it in all colors and even a patterned fabric.
    I don’t want fame either, but I want $$$

  4. CidySmiley says:

Nothing bothers me more when celebrities complain about being celebrities. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure no one wants a camera shoved in their face all the time but that comes with the job! Don’t strive to be a movie star if you can’t handle the paps, just like you don’t go to culinary school if you can’t work long hours!

These people have it fairly good, that’s why people like Cumberbatch and Chris Evans and this chick rub me the wrong way. Some people would kill to be in their position there are people who actually went to ACTING SCHOOL and can’t get a job, and all they do is whine, they’re overpaid, over done and whiney.

    • neverland says:

I agree that excessive and prolonged complaining about it is annoying, but tbf Elizabeth’s probably got the best track record of the three. I always thought she came off as a bit nervous and edgy at some events so I can buy that she can be uncomfortable with the attention sometimes.

And also, Cumberbatch and Olsen both went to acting school… but I understand your point. Perhaps it’s a thin line, if you reject it you’re protesting too much but if you embrace it you’re a ‘famewh*re’. I imagine many celebrities work at getting the right balance of the two.

    • chelsea says:

She also went to acting school, but that would kill the little narrative playing out in your head. Wah!

      • Starkiller says:

Don’t bother, Chelsea. She’ll forever be persona non grata because she dared to bang and/or date the Internet’s precious baby unicorn Tom Hiddleston, for whom she’s CLEARLY not good enough. *eyeroll*

      • Timbuktu says:

        @chelsea
        @Starkiller

The “everyone hates her because she dated X” narrative is exhausting. I don’t care for TH, but I don’t like her either. Just cause I don’t. Not because I secretly dream of marrying TH.
Also, the acting school factoid does not kill CidySmiley’s narrative at all. First, not everyone has to know EO’s biography. Second, let us not kid ourselves: what were EO’s odds of making it big without her famous family? So, yeah, there are people who go to acting school and can NEVER land a decent job. And there are people who’re more or less born into fame and whine about it.

      • jammypants says:

Her going to acting school is not a factoid. It’s a fact. It doesn’t matter her upbringing. She went to a trade school to learn skills she would apply to her career. She’s one of the few celebs who spent years purposefully low key (I know 😉) because she wanted to start small and obscure to make a name for herself. I actually respect that. There’s nothing wrong with advancing your career. I think she’s a horrible example of nepotism. That goes to the talentless Kendall Jenner.

    • NUTBALLS says:

It’s a simple case of saying one thing and doing another. She always acts like she’s above all the shallow, attention-getting publicity and just “cares about the work”, but her choice to go after big-budget blockbusters, her pap walks with Hiddles and fuzzy, evasive answers to the inevitable dating questions prove that she’s just like every other actor clambering for A-list status in Hollywood.

It’s not the chasing after fame that I’m critical of — it’s the disingenity.

      • MP says:

And don’t forget all the fashion shows she frequents. Why go if being famous is not what you want? I always thought people went to those things to get photographed and have their picture in the papers. Nothing to do with acting.

      • NUTBALLS says:

She may have a genuine interest in fashion and enjoy going to the shows… who knows? But you don’t see working actresses attending them, so it’s a sign that she’s got too much time on her hands. All of her overseas trips and fashion show appearances reminded us that she was unemployed for 10 months.

      • jammypants says:

to be fair, in 2013, Tom had a hard time getting roles/keeping them, so he filled it up with a lot of PR fluff.

Some actors go through dry spells.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Jammy, you’re right, he did and was accused of famewhoring as well.

And… back in 2013 he said he wasn’t interested in celebrity and the Thornfield Ladies had lots of snark in response:

        http://www.celebitchy.com/326261/tom_hiddleston_the_circus_of_being_a_celebrity_is_something_im_not_interested_in/

For those who don’t take him too seriously, the comments are HILARIOUS.

  5. Locke Lamora says:

I agree. If she didn’t want fame or celebrity she wouldn’t do a Marvel movie. If she really hated it she would have kept doing indies or theatre. And because she saw what her sisters went trought, she can’t claim she didn’t know what she was geting herself into.

    • TreadStyle says:

Yes plus signing up for the Godzilla movie. I think she took those roles bc she wasn’t becoming famous or recognizable. She still isn’t really…

  6. Sam says:

    Elizabeth,

There is a simple answer to your predicament. It’s called “going away.” It’s easy. You just stop making movies and eventually people don’t know you anymore. It’s fun! You should try it sometime.

  7. luffy says:

its something akin to the people who eat half or all of their food before announcing that they didnt like it. it makes me scratch my head.

  8. neverland says:

That’s not her instagram account. Apparently it’s run by some fan, and if you look at the pictures, they’re all reposts from other accounts.

  9. Neelyo says:

    Hmmm….that nose job says otherwise.

    • Sam says:

There’s always been an uncomfortable rumor about her that the nose job wasn’t exactly wanted but was necessitated by copious cocaine abuse. There were blind items back in the day that she was exposed to a lot of drug usage and that the surgery was kind of needed to fix the damage.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I really noticed it today as I drove by a billboard for the movie, where all of the characters are standing in profile. Her face looks sooooo flat from the side!

  10. Becky says:

Pfffft, if you don’t want fame and celebrity don’t wear an attention-seeking, slashed to the waist dress on the red carpet either.

Kaiser, I’m pretty sure that Instagram is a fan account, Lizzie is not on social media (so that comment was probably referring to the JVR/Hawaii pic).

    • Naya says:

Then why would you go to a pap place in London then sneak in not one but two photos in Hawaii photo

      • InvaderTak says:

The pap shoots didn’t look intentional and why should she not pose for pictures with friends? Come on. Sneak in? Like K said she can come off as a little haughty at times but let’s not get ridiculous.

      • EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

+1 to @invadertak’s comment. Come on. Let’s at least try to make the hating a little less transparent, shall we?

  11. One2 says:

I think what she was trying to say was she doesnt want to be a kim Kardashian, where fame is what shes known for and nothing else. I hope this makes sense but i view people like snooki and the Kardashians as ” celebrities” and actors and actresses as actors and actresses.

    • Carol says:

I think so too. I read her comments to mean that she isn’t enamored of fame they way other people are, like the Kardashians. That her focus is on acting as opposed to fame. I don’t thinks she is necessarily complaining “woes me”

  12. Anon says:

@Kaiser: is this really Elizabeth’s Instagram or a fan account trying to look like it’s her? It seems to comprise a lot of pics culled from other people’s IG accounts and it’s linked to a Twitter which claims to be her official account but which doesn’t have the blue tick. If you read the recent “q&a with fans” on that Twitter you might think some of the answers were a little – odd. For example a fan asked “what was the funniest moment that happened to you on set?” The reply was “Funny thing was every day, when I dress a very long time my suit”. I would hazard a guess that whoever wrote that doesn’t have English as their first language.

  13. Miss Jupitero says:

That dress is ghastly, and she really needs a bra.

  14. Miss M says:

But she certainly needs a bra…

  15. Jenn4037 says:

She is laying the groundwork to retire and raise Hiddlebabies.

  16. Cathrin Bottolfsen says:

    She should button up instead
    of displaying her girls!

  17. Kate says:

    Aha.

    Ahahahahahahahahaha.

  18. Anon says:

Why do I have the feeling that this woman is not the brightest one? I have no clue. And her laughter just makes me go gaga. As for fame: I agree. You do not sign for Marvel if you do not want fame and be popular. But the thing which makes my blood boil was her statement that she doesn’t understand women who are posing for fashion magazines. Guess who is sitting front row on every fashion event? It doesn’t make sense to me. May be Vogue isn’t into her….Plus she had no clue who Adele is. Seriously where have you been living all this time? No, the dress wasn’t doing her any favor. Not at all. But hey, she studied at Tish School. So she can’t be that stupid, right? Sorry for being harsh on her but I can’t stand her although I love her smile. Radiant.

  19. Anon says:

Anyhow, whether or not she is on social media, it is immature to say you don’t want celebrity and fame if you’re in the Hollywood movie industry. Massive face recognition is what gets you a wider choice of roles – the roles in movies that studios hope will be blockbusters because everyone knows who you are and will see your movies, plus roles in indie films that won’t get funding without a big name involved.

I’d also have a lot more sympathy for her complaints about the intrusiveness of modern fame if her publicist hadn’t leaked personal details like a sieve back in May last year, at a time when she had zero projects on the horizon. Still, she seems again to have nothing coming up after the latest Renner project, so she may well get her wish for greater obscurity in fairly short order.

  20. Emilee says:

If I didn’t want fame or celebrity I probably wouldn’t sign onto the largest, most famous franchise in current moviedom. There are other ways to make money, honey. You can’t say that acting in front of green screens is art, either, so…

  21. InvaderTak says:

But one of the last times she appeared on someone else’s social media, it’s was because she visited Tom Hiddleston on the Hawaii set of Kong…
Check out Renner’s. And having looked again today there is another one. Wonder why there isn’t anymore rehash of the ol’ Marvel femme fatal tab story line.

    • NUTBALLS says:

“Wonder why there isn’t anymore rehash of the ol’ Marvel femme fatal tab story line.”

      Perhaps because:

      1. ISTL bombed at TIFF
      2. Oscar campaign buzz died
      3. ISTL has been released
      4. She’s been working for the past 6 weeks

      • InvaderTak says:

No I mean rumors about her and Renner. It’s kinda right there and the rumors have been there before (the one about her casually seeing Renner, Hids and Evans). Not sure what you’re talking about has to do with anything. I’m just wondering why everyone is so fixated on her and TH and why the only reason they did anything together was for PR. It seems to have blown over but no one is moving on. And I never thought either of them were playing games about anything. They can’t control everything despite what people online say. There’s other gossip potential here but people are still talking about last summer.

      • trilby227 says:

There are some photos from the london premiere that show Elizabeth and Renner signing autographs and he is definitely hanging on to her, grabbing her from behind by the waist.

      • NUTBALLS says:

She hasn’t been spotted socially with Renner or Evans, has she? The only one was Tom — last summer and Hawaii being the confirmed sightings. Tom’s a more believable hookup than the other two, in my opinion.

THEO haven’t done anything to discourage the public from thinking they’re still hooking up periodically. There’s a natural curiosity as to whether they’ll be spotted together again now that they will both be on a break over the next month or two.

I really don’t think the THEO speculation will go away until one of them steps out with someone new.

      • trilby227 says:

Yes, she hasn’t been spotted with Renner or Evans, just Hiddleston.

      • InvaderTak says:

Except she outright denied it and never said anything else about it that I know of while TH gave the usual I don’t comment stuff. How are they supposed to discourage speculation anymore than that? What are they supposed to do?
“I really don’t think the THEO speculation will go away until one of them steps out with someone new.”
That’s what I’m driving at here. Renner is doing more to encourage speculation about them than TH ever did. Go look at the pics from the London CW premier and his Insta. I’m just sayin’. people are fixated on way old news. Just trying to have some gossipy fun.

      • Becky says:

Invadertrak, they fuelled all the speculation with the stories dropped to US Weekly last year and the ill-advised pap walk. Then when the response was negative or because of the bad reviews of ISTL, they pulled the pr, but the stories were already out there. It’s natural that fans will continue to speculate, esp when they have been seen together in their off-work time, not the case with either Evans or Renner.

And as Nutballs pointed out, Lizzie is coming across as disingenuous, so I don’t actually believe what she says anymore; she does 1 thing and says another.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        Three cheers for gossipy fun!

Here’s how THEO can shut the rumors down: by giving a straightforward answer like, “We’re great friends, that’s all. The chemistry you see on the screen was called acting and we’re thrilled to hear it was so believable that people thought we had a real-life romance!”

As you know, I’m in the hookup camp. I think those outings in London were intended to draw attention to them, give weight to the rumors and Tom throwing his arm around Lizzy was meant to stir up some PR ahead of ISTL. Her denial at TIFF was either a lie or a misleading statement since FWBs wouldn’t consider themselves “dating”. Her trip out to Hawaii confirmed what I suspected all along — that they hook up when they can, but it’s nothing serious. She wouldn’t be flying out to visit Tom on set unless sex is a part of the agenda.

To me, it makes sense for Tom to look to his trusted friends to get laid. It’s the way of things in Hollywood. He certainly isn’t celibate and anyone who thinks he only bangs women he’s dating is naive.

      • jammypants says:

“Tom throwing his arm around Lizzy was meant to stir up some PR ahead of ISTL”

That was a stalker image submitted to the DailyMail by a stalker fan. That was not PR.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        PR plant!!

        *scampers away*

      • jammypants says:

        @Smutty, naughty!

      • lilacflowers says:

Renner has pictures of the two of them all over his Instagram doing “fun” and “social” activities together. He was also draped all over her at the London premier of CACW. No need for paps to catch you when you put it out there yourselves.

Personally, as I’ve said before, I suspect her ex of putting out all those rumors last year. He clearly was holding a grudge a whole year after their breakup. Nobody has their own PR describe them as “hooking up.” It is not a flattering image for a woman.

      • Dara says:

My contribution to the gossipy fun…

Maybe the motivation behind the slit-to-there dress was a not so subtle reminder to a certain someone that her girls look glorious in a bikini and they both have a break coming up.

      • jammypants says:

@Dara, clever lass if so 👌

    • trilby227 says:

I am all for gossipy fun! There hasn’t been enough lately . . .

      • Anon says:

“That” photo is the only bit I doubt to be PR. A couple of months after the first US Weekly article the bicycle site suddenly started to get anonymous sightings of THEO in Belsize Park and she basically goaded her followers into taking a pic (or it didn’t happen etc). One of them duly obliged. Even if he saw he was being photographed (which he may not have) I find it a a stretch that he would believe that his pose in one non-paparazzi creepshot would be relevant to his PR. It did get sent to the Mail but it could just as easily have been posted on twitter by someone who spelled his name wrong, and totally forgotten.

I am totally with you @Nutballs there was and may still be hooking up going on. There are enough coincidences of time and place when they had no obvious reason to be together but were. If they’re just friends, he’s been seen with her a lot more than any other female “friend” since Queen Jarthy.

And if we want gossip then we must cross our fingers for a sighting in Oz while he is filming Thor 3….!

  22. Miss V says:

She’s so dull to me. Like, nothing about her is interesting. I was so underwhelmed by her casting and performances as the Scarlett Witch, and I don’t know or care about anything else she has ever done. So, meh.

Also, you don’t where that kind of dress with your side boob hanging out and then say you’re not interested in the attention….

  23. perplexed says:

I think you have to do those movies to get the other roles you want.

I do tend to believe her that she doesn’t desire celebrity or fame, mainly because she can see how her sisters retreated a bit from it (and the fact that they dress like bag ladies to hide from the press).

I do also think she’s a very confident person when I’ve seen her in interviews, and sometimes the confidence surprises me because it’s a sharp contrast to how the other Olsens appear in interviews and even other actresses, but I do tend to believe that she did try to justify acting to herself as a career since her sisters did it and she probably felt people would think she was riding on their coat-tails.

I hesitate to ask this, but was she pregnant at some point? Or are digital cameras making everyone look bigger in photos? I had the impression she was very slim, but she looks more normal sized in these photos.

  24. Kristen says:

I don’t really see what’s wrong with what she’s saying, or any contradiction in it. She’s just saying that celebrity and fame – byproducts of being a hollywood actress – aren’t the main things she wants. Which seems fine. Red carpets aren’t her career – they’re something she does as a requirement of her job as an actress.

I don’t have any desire to go to meetings, but it’s part of my job, which I do love.

    • EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

      Yep.

    • Anon33 says:

I would argue that becoming famous is much, much larger than a “byproduct” of CHOOSING (let’s not forget) to be a Hollywood actress. It’s like someone said unthread: I love cooking and food and once upon a time thought I would go to culinary school…then I learned how long of hours chefs actually work, and I decided that the lifestyle wasn’t for me. Simple.

There are celebs on celebs who ACTUALLY STAY OUT OF THE PUBLIC EYE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE (the list is endless) if they don’t have something to promote. I would tend to believe those people before I believed her. Actions speak louder than words, IMO.

  25. EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

She’s laughing in that picture. Laughing is being full of oneself?

  26. Sylvia says:

I’m with Kaiser, she does look full of herself. I was watching the Captain America press conference and I didn’t know who she was at first, and I was just like ‘who is this snobby bitch and what has she done with ScarJo?’ But then again, I also finished that video thinking Chris Evans was maybe a little too pretentious and full of himself as well, which made me sad.

    • ennuiarethechampions says:

I need to know how to laugh to avoid looking full of myself, as I’m pretty sure I make a similar face while laughing. Should I cover my mouth? Keep my eyes downcast? I just need some guidance, as I laugh quite a bit, so I must be unwittingly throwing off “snobby bitch” vibes all willy-nilly-like.

      • Sylvia says:

Well, if you read my comment that you responded to, you’ll see I got the snobby bitch vibes from watching her during the press conference. She spoke some, didn’t laugh much. It wasn’t laughter that gave me that vibe, just her overall demeanor. I didn’t even know who she was before watching the video, I was expecting Scarlet Johanson – I didn’t see the last Avengers so I’m not familiar with EO beyond that video and this article. I get that you’re an invested fan, but if I had that thought the other day and now there’s an article today expressing a similar sentiment, well… it’s clearly not just “laughter” that’s the problem.

      • ennuiarethechampions says:

Ah yes, the “you’re an invested fan” response. Love it. Actually I’ve seen EO in exactly two movies (one of which I largely slept through) and know very little about her. I have, however, become invested in this particular conversation because I’m always bothered by the level of vitriol thrown at EO, or Jane Arthy, or Sophie Hunter, or any other woman who comes within a stone’s throw of an internet boyfriend. I think it’s weird and gross.

EO may very well be the snobbiest bitch who ever snobby-bitched. I don’t know, because I don’t know her. But here’s the thing — you don’t know either, regardless of whether your assessment is based on a press conference or a photograph. You certainly haven’t given any specific examples of press-conference-video behavior that would cause me to call a stranger a “bitch” in a public forum.

And listen, to be fair, you are certainly not the only person in this thread expressing a similar sentiment, so it’s not my intention to single you out. I hope I’ve made it clear that I think this whole thread is ughhh.

      • jammypants says:

@ennui, I agree with you completely.

  27. Phoebe says:

That’s more bullsh*t than I’ve maybe ever read anyone spew. She tap dances just like the rest of them, shows up to fashion shows and red carpets in movies she’s not in, goes to big name restaurants to get her pic taken with a certain someone and get publicity, has her PR people drop hints that she is screwing every single male Avenger, etc.

She comes off to me like an entitled Hollywood-ite who can’t get her head out of her own ass. Like, what does “I wanted to be an actress, but felt it was such a cliché. I thought if I could make it more of a pretentious theatre experience, I could justify it” even MEAN? She thought if she just did some plays she wouldn’t be a celebrity? But then she did no plays and signed onto a multiple movie Marvel contract where she just moves her hands around funny and does a terrible Russian-esque accent? Fake and dumb.

    • OhDear says:

It seems like almost all actors/actresses say the “oh, I am doing it for the art, I don’t want to be famous” spiel, though. Henry Cavill is/was one of the few who is/was brutally honest about it (“the money’s great! I like having money!”) and people reacted badly to that. To be fair, he was also saying some other … interesting things in that interview.

      • Phoebe says:

Did he say how he also likes that it brings him lots of 19 year old tail? ‘Cause I bet he was thinking that…LOL

  28. jammypants says:

This woman gets a lot of flack. She’s quite harmless imo. Sure I side eye her PR a bit, but ultimately, she doesn’t come anywhere near offending me like the Royals, Kardashians, and Iggy Azealia. I don’t know. I think she’s quite cute and sexy.

    • EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

Yes she does. And she didn’t before the TH rumors. I think she’s pretty and seems nice enough but don’t have strong feelings about her. Nevertheless, the pile-on she gets in threads like these bothers me.

      • jammypants says:

I noticed a shift in tone after the TH rumors. Shame really. I’ve always found her likeable and talented. Now people are saying horrible things about her appearance (nose job, pregnant, etc), her acting, and her level of fame thirst. When you become more popular, the negative perceptions also come out.

    • Dara says:

IKR? I’m hardly her #1 fan, but aside from the occasional fashion misstep and her speaking voice getting on my last nerve, I can’t find a lot to get worked up about.

I think all of her comments about fame are filtered through her own experience of watching her sisters be famous almost from birth and by being surrounded by famous friends while growing up in LA. Using that as a benchmark, she is not really part of the LA party crowd or even particularly thirsty – she does what she needs to further her career and keep her name recognition up when she has a work lull.

      • jammypants says:

Agreed. If you want work, you have to network. Some actors even do fashion spreads to promote themselves and make an extra bit of income. Paying agents don’t come cheap. I agree about her voice though. I really can’t stand it =/ It’s deep but shrill at the same time. I think it might be due to her having more of a nasal register.

  29. Starkiller says:

So according to the comments, she has an ugly nose, saggy boobs, is conceited, is fake, and is totally devoid of talent. Personal preference is a funny thing, because IMHO that list perfectly describes Hiddleston (other than the saggy boobs obviously).

    • NUTBALLS says:

Whaaattt??? You’re throwing shade at Tom’s glorious, strong Grecian nose? I’m outraged!

We need some NOSE P0RN on this thread to show how utterly WRONG you are:

      http://www.justjared.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/hiddleston-flaunt/tom-hiddleston-flaunt-magazine-feature-04.jpg

      YEESSS!

    • ennuiarethechampions says:

Ok, well, I completely disagree with everything you’ve said about TH. Especially the bit about his nose, as I consider his nose to be a thing of beauty sculpted by the angels. I am a TH stan and I adore him.

But let me say this — I hope that all the posters in here attacking EO for claiming disinterest in fame while supposedly simultaneously acting like a giant famewh0re are saying that very thing about TH, and as harshly as they are saying it about EO. Because he said almost exactly the same thing recently, yet he is also in not one, but two big-budget franchises. And if you buy into the whole pap walk/planted tabloid story THEO thing (which I don’t), then he is equally culpable in that as well.

To be clear, I don’t think TH is fake and thirsty for fame, and have said so in other threads. But fair is fair, and the same standards should be applied.

      • Phoebe says:

I believe anything Tom has said about fame has been a comment on “Hiddlestoners” and he’s said that what’s important to him is the work and he sees this phenomena as a reaction to his work and that’s how he has to look at it. I don’t remember reading anything where he said he doesn’t want to be famous or a celebrity.

      • jammypants says:

@Phoebe, agreed. He also said he gets excite over people’s excitement. He also said an actor can’t call themselves an actor without an audience.

      • ennuiarethechampions says:

He was asked about fame in the context of Hank Williams and the effect fame had on him, and he said he doesn’t “attach any significance” to fame and cares only about the work. She said she doesn’t “have any desire” for fame. I interpret both as saying they don’t care about fame as the endgame, not that they hate being famous.

    • jammypants says:

Starkiller, I am very dismayed at all the shade and venom thrown at EO. It’s quite unnecessary, all because she bumped uglies with an internet bf. But I will forever disagree on the nose comment. TH’s nose > EO’s nose 😛

    • NUTBALLS says:

Jammy and I may disagree on THEO PR shenanigans, but we agree when it comes to TH’s nose. It is a glorious work of art.

  30. KittyKat says:

When’s Lizzy going to get her long awaited Oscar for Date Night©.? That was her best performance ever and Hidds should get a supporting role for ignoring our damsel in distress. For those who think it wasn’t PR need their heads examined. I’m also beginning to think that the Arm around her shoulders photo was staged too. It’s too close and the way it appeared on one blog that everyone was commenting on.

I’m all for keeping private lives private but when there are two celebs together there need to be brains and no double wording, either comment or not.

Now I wish lizzy does end up with an Whoops baby because I’d like them to try and hide that. Especially with her sisters

    • NUTBALLS says:

For a guy who wouldn’t show any public affection with Lover JArthy, I surmise that he knew he was getting photographed and threw his arm around Lizzy to stir the PR pot. THAT’S what got people talking, not their having lunch together.

People here don’t give Tom the credit he deserves for his savvy PR moves. I think he’s very intentional with his public behavior.

      • Guest says:

But but but Nutty…. He never dated Jarthy. Didn’t you know that there was nothing going on? She was just a friend…. Like Olsen is just a friend now. No bang bang. Just watching and playing tennis together.

      • KittyKat says:

Well having dinner together joking around wouldn’t make a good candid photo for PR purposes would it?

There’s hanging out with a friend and then there is Date Night lol

What would’ve made it more interesting is if they both got drunk and acting silly in front of the paps ie: literally laugh off any hookup.

But Hidds cares too much what everyone thinks to be seen like that

  31. Leah C says:

Yikes, why is everyone being so vicious about this young woman? She is kind of silly sure but really, all this nonsense because she got to bang the guy NONE OF US even have a chance with?

  32. Dana says:

Unpopular opinion… Im an artist – so maybe i’m use to hearing artists who want to cherish their craft. It doesn’t bother me (musicians or actors or painters) I don’t mind what she’s saying. I’m never one to say that you can’t be an actress and not expect “fame” card to come. She did do Marvel and I agree Kaiser, but even then – there are actors who can do Marvel and pull away when not filming… she’s one of them. And then there’s the Scott Eastwoods of the world who BEGGGGG for anyone to throw them a bone and generally made it because of who he looks like vs his talent. Plug Riley Reough there too. Lots of nepotism in HW and I’d say Elizabeth handled it right if not being overexposed is her thing. There was a time 10-20 years ago when celebs hid their nepotism and fans looked down upon the EASY route but now, the more famous from family the better. She gets a small pass.
As for the Insta… that is strange. Don’t say you don’t use it when you actively have an acct and/or assc with someones acct.

  33. NeNe says:

She’s in the wrong business if she supposedly doesn’t desire celebrity or fame!! Give me an friggen break!!

  34. Grant says:

I wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment. If I was an actor or actress, I would love to sign onto a Marvel movie – not because I wanted fame or fortune, but because I’m a comic fanboy who loves the source material. Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful superheroes (male or female) in the MU, not to mention one of the most iconic. She has such a rich and troubled history, from her lineage (she’s Magneto’s daughter) to her psychosis (her grasp on reality is … tenuous). How exciting it must be to be the woman who gets to bring this fabulous character to life!

    • Phoebe says:

You do understand that your motivations might be completely different from another persons motivations right? I highly doubt EO is a fan or had even heard of the character before signing on for the role and if you watch her interview on the Graham Norton show promoting AOU, she actually talked about how she felt stupid standing there just twisting her hands around. Doubting she did heavy, comic book reading research.

      • jammypants says:

Actually from a different interview, she said she wasn’t familiar with the character until she was cast and then she read a lot of comic issues for research. That’s not a fair thing to dumb her down like that. She’s an actress. It’s her job, and she does do her research when she is hired for the job. And every actor who plays against green screen will admit how silly they look. Just look at Cumberbatch hopping about in NY lol! or Mark Ruffalo running around in a hilarious motion capture pajama. Or look at Chris Hemsworth and his cape flying over his head and him flopping a hammer about lol. They all realize it’s all quite hilarious and silly without special effects.

    • Savvy says:

(Tom, is that you? Defending your dull and dumb girlfriend?)
I’d never heard about her before her relationship with Tom. When I googled her I only found news about her attending fashion shows, walking hand in hand with her ex-fiancé or doing photo shoots. Nothing related to serious work. And it was Tom who got her the job in I Saw The Light.
And I’m not saying this because she’s dating Tom. I just think an intelligent and educated man like him deserves a woman who engages him intellectually.
I also agree with what was said about her annoying voice. It hurts my ears.

  35. seesittellsit says:

And I have no desire to win the Mega Millions . . .

If she’s really dating Hiddleston, perhaps she thinks this will up her appeal for him, as we all know he’d have little room in his thirsty universe for a S.O. with real ambitions . . .

  36. sunnydaze says:

The “I don’t like the idea of being famous” when someone is an actor in 2016 is positively stupid. Nowdays, hell, even a decade ago, acting and fame go hand in hand. Your face is in movie theaters all over the damn world. PR is part of your contract. PEOPLE KNOW YOU. And there’s that whole getting paid millions of dollars thing. Sure there are some things you can to do tone down the “celebrity” aspect of it like staying off social media, but when actors complain about “celebrity” it feels like a doctor complaining about having to see sick people, or a teacher complaining about having to be around kids so much. If you don’t want fame, don’t be an actor. Simple. This is not rocket science.

    • SloaneY says:

Or, you can still be an actor, but stick to theater work. Much less level of fame and still getting creative work. That’s what she wants, right? *rolls eyes*

    • Sodapop says:

This. It sounds totally disingenuous and stupid. Fame is a part of her job description practically. If you just want to act…go do plays, indie movies etc.

  37. Meee4 says:

Well the thing is that no one would be gossiping about or trashing (as some call it) her if she wasn’t involved in various men of marvel hookup rumours. I barely remember anything about her before last May. The sad and unfortunate truth is it’s exactly what’s keeping her name out there. We’re all here contributing to her unwanted fame.

Also, I kind of feel that people who have grown up in Hollywood or around famous family should somehow be more skilled at navigating the fame game. I just can’t believe she wouldn’t have learned anything from the twins experience at all.

  38. Beach girl says:

I posted this on the TH thread. What are the chances both will attend the Met Ball Monday? She’ll be in LA to tape the Ellen DeGeneres show, probably am for an afternoon show. Still time for a flight. Just a thought..

    • Beach girl says:

She’s scheduled Tues for Late Night with Seth Meyers in NY and then May 9 on the JC Show back in LA

  39. Die Zicke says:

She honestly has one of the best smiles I’ve ever seen. And gorgeous hair. If she’s had a nose job, well, half of Hollywood has done that, it wouldn’t really be shocking.

I think EO and TH both are somewhat private people with their personal lives, but also ambitious and willing to hustle. I think that where the PR weirdness came from. Neither really wanted to talk about what was going on between them, but both knew that it would benefit them to get other people talking about what was going on with them. But, unfortunately for them, I don’t think you can get it both ways. You either have to sell your relationship or keep it quiet, you can’t do both
