Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors at the Met Gala: cute, but does it fit the theme?

Olivia Wilde and Emily Blunt, both very pregnant, wore formfitting Michael Kors at the Met Gala last night. I think Olivia is nailing the “Manus x Machina” theme just a little more with that fabulous silver choker and coordinating high pony. I love the how the grommets on Olivia’s strapless gown get more condensed into a tighter pattern along the bottom of the skirt. That’s an excellent detail. Her metallic makeup fits perfectly without being overdone. Emily’s cobalt blue gown isn’t as much of a standout but she looks great too. Unfortunately I feel like I’ve seen this dress several times before because Kors likes to repeat this style.

Zendaya killed it in this copper one-shoulder Kors with a slight fishtail. I think the collar really makes this dress a standout. Only Zendaya could rock a bowl cut and make it look current, she’s such a chameleon. I’m not sure about the smokey eye but I see what her makeup artist was going for.

Lily Aldridge brought the gold from her dress up to her brows in this sequin cutout Michael Kors. Her body looks crazy in this and her face does too a bit, but if there’s ever a time to be experimental with makeup, this is it. I love how the dress shimmers and how her makeup artist tried to replicate that with dewy skin and underdone eyes except for her brows. There’s something so clever in the way she was put together.

I know it wasn’t hot in NYC yesterday so why was everyone so sweaty looking?

    • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

JIB, I know, right? Humidity? Or were makeup artists all going for a sexy sheen but got sweatbombs instead?

    • Lena says:

All the lights? Heavy dresses in uncomfortable fabrics?

    • Poisonous Lookalike says:

      Excellent question.

    • ugh says:

I think the lighting was a problem, too. Everyone looks very grey and cold. Maybe that’s intentional, for robots, but it’s not flattering.

I like Olivia’s dress, but her makeup is distracting and not flattering.

      • prettylights says:

I think it’s part the heat and lights but also the glowy strobing makeup trend that’s going on right now. It’s less about the harsh contouring now and more about the glowy skin. Pat McGrath, world renowned makeup artist, just released a highlighter called Skin Fetish that Kim Kardashian was helping her promote. It’s a very glowy almost wet look type finish. Honestly I ordered one, looks beautiful, but I’m hoping for less sweaty looking and more ‘naturally radiant’.

Anyway, I agree about Olivia’s makeup. The contouring is over the top and the eye makeup just accentuates how angular her face is. Not a good look at all. Emily looks so soft next to her.

  2. Ally8 says:

With all that contouring/highlighting and tight pony, Olivia Wilde looks like a robot version of Amber Valletta here. Good for the theme, I guess? The dress is quite cool.

  3. woah! Olivia’s make up looks hideous. Does she own a mirror

    • Diana says:

Yes, that header photo is awful my God…

    • tegteg says:

Yeah, that’s what I first thought when I saw the thumbnail. Lily Aldrige and Zendaya look great.

    • lilacflowers says:

Watching her on television last night, the makeup did look really bad.

    • lana86 says:

that metallic make-up makes her look quite odd indeed

    • Gomez says:

She should never, ever wear that make up again. It’s awful on her. Makes her look very harsh.

      • Calcifer says:

Agreed about the horrible make-up on Olivia Wilde. It also ‘enhances’ that slightly pushed-in, vintage Barbie-doll quality her face has.

  4. als says:

    Zendaya is just perfect.
The bowl cut is my favorite and it looks great on her. When I saw her styled like that I couldn’t believe it.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      So adorable.

    • Josephine says:

I agree. She should have had her own post because she was absolutely stunning. It was silver dress after silver dress and she was a standout in a flattering color and killer dress.

    • Samtha says:

She looked amazing. No one else could have pulled that off.

    • Tami says:

MEH Zendaya hair looks like the Dorothy Hamil hair to me. Maybe I’m just mad because it took me so long to grow that crap out in the 4th grade.

      • Pandy says:

The Dorothy Hamill cut was a step above this bowl cut! God, that’s FUGLY, even on Zendaya! Didn’t think she could look bad.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah she looks awesome. I liked Lily’s look too…very cool.

    • Audrey says:

I have absolutely no idea who she is but she looks fantastic

    • Carol says:

LOVED her look. That bowl cut killed me and that dress is gorgeous. AS for the the other ladies, did every makeup artist get the same memo – no eyebrows?

    • I Choose Me says:

Yes! Plus she has lovely posture.

  5. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Everyone is doing either the 1) I’m sexy mouth open JLo face or 2) I’m famous and don’t have to smile face

  6. Tifygodess24 says:

I guess I’m alone on this, but I don’t care for Zendaya’s bowl cut at all. She’s so beautiful and I feel its too heavy for her face, and that eye makeup really didn’t help either. Plus it’s a bowl cut, is that ever really flattering? Yeah she pulls it off better than most, but for me it was a miss.

    • vauvert says:

You are not alone, she is a very beautiful young woman but that Dumb and Dumber hairstyle is horrible. Nobody, not even her, could save that. Also, her makeup is way to heavy, IMO. The dress is ok but the colour is unflattering to her skin, so overall I am not feeling the love for this look.

I love Emily and her comfortable, elegant blue dress. Olivia’s try hard everything – the overly smoky eye, the really low side cut on the dress, the ponytail so tight it gives me a headache just looking at it – nope.

If Lily’s dress would have actually been tailored right it might have been great. She is already so slim – they couldn’t afford another two inches of fabric so her breasts don’t look like they are gasping for air? I am not sure about the whole gold eyebrow thing. I like the idea, but her natural eyebrow line peeking up above and under the gold one is distracting. Was it intended like that? Or the makeup artists didn’t do a good enough job of coverage before applying the gold?

    • Eden75 says:

      You are not alone.

No one, I repeat, NO ONE should ever be allowed to have a bowl cut, ever.

  7. Zadie says:

I absolutely love Zendaya’s look, she’s always so bold with her fashion choices.

  8. Louise177 says:

I loved Zendaya’s dress but hate her haircut. Olivia looks really good. She’s one of few people who didn’t go metallic and still fit the theme.

  9. GingerNYC says:

I love Lily’s dress but it looks very ‘runway’ and would have looked so much better with a few small real-life modifications. She could have done with more fabric on top definitely. But her body is ridiculous so it still looked good, I’m just nitpicking a bit.

  10. Kate says:

Everyone looks like they’ve arrived at the Capitol for the Hunger Games. I just don’t find any of the crazy make up pretty or neat. It makes most of them look sweaty or greasy and old!

  11. Gomez says:

Zendaya looks like a high-fashion Ann Widdecombe here, and for that reason I can’t stop giggling.

  12. OriginallyBlue says:

Zendaya looks fabulous. I know she wants to protect her hair from damage, but she manages to pick the ugliest wigs. A bowl cut!?

  13. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think everyone looks pretty except for some of the makeup. I get it, theme, but it didn’t photograph well.

  14. Rae says:

    Zendaya looks AMAZING.

  15. Mia4s says:

Who hates you Olivia Wilde? That makeup! 😳

  16. Marianne says:

Why is Olivia so orange looking though?

  17. lucy2 says:

Olivia should NOT wear her hair like that. Yikes. I like her dress though.

I saw a very dramatically posed photo of Zendaya and she looked gorgeous, though I don’t love the bowl cut hair.

  18. Bridget says:

I love Olivia’s dress. I wish we would have seen more interpretation of the theme this way – with interesting and man-made materials being used, rather than the broad interpretation of “robots”.

  19. Carmen says:

I never heard of Lily Aldridge before but she knocked it out of the park. Her dress and makeup were perfect.

Zendaya looked lovely as always, bowl cut and all.

  20. kri says:

Zendaya. Adore. Olivia looks like she just did a wrestling match in oil.

  21. tacos and tv says:

Zandaya brought some drama which I love. She looks fun and exciting. I am in love with Olivia Wilde’s look. From head to toe.

  22. Mabel says:

Olivia is beautiful but this makeup is too severe looking. It’s not flattering at all. I have no idea who Zendaya is but that 1970s bowl cut hairstyle looks ridiculous on her. I hope it’s a wig!
