Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Ralph Lauren at the Met Gala: on point or plain?

MET Costume Institute Gala 2016
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley got a lot of praise for her incredible white Ralph Lauren gown last night. The commentators on E! admitted that it didn’t fit the theme, which was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” but said that the heavy metallic strap brought the technology element in. She looked so amazing it almost didn’t matter. She was floating in that dress. I like the lightness of the gown mixed with the bold metal strap. You could put Rosie in almost anything and she would look gorgeous though.

Amber Heard was also in Ralph Lauren, but her dress wasn’t as form-fitting as Rosie’s and kind of hung on her. The color of the gown is striking, but the way it gathers is unflattering and looks bunchy. She always goes for that old Hollywood vibe and it isn’t always suited to the occasion. Her hair and makeup look lovely, but again this is something we’ve seen from her before. I wonder why Johnny didn’t accompany her last night, although dates aren’t as common at the Met Gala as at typical events.

Rose Byrne shimmered in this ruffled Ralph Lauren gown. This silver color is to die for, but I can’t say the same for the off the shoulder flutter sleeves and ruffles. Still, it looks like she was dipped in a vat of some metallic substance that’s dripping off of her. Even with the overdone makeup and my initial dislike of the cut of the dress, there’s something incredible about the look as a whole. It’s just impressive.

Ivanka Trump had on a crimson caped Lauren pantsuit with a halter strap neckline. This look is so Ivanka. It’s like 80s preppy regal. She’s so lovely that her dad’s idiocy hasn’t rubbed off on her, which is a real feat. This has nothing to do with technology or machines but as a red carpet look it’s dead on.

Uma Thurman is a nice bookend to Rosie because she’s also in a white Lauren with a high slit and an interesting metallic details for one the straps. Check out the scoop neck back of that gown, it has straps going across and shows the top of her butt crack. Work. Her styling is incredible too, her hair is surely sprayed down tight but it somehow looks smooth and naturally sleek.

    Uma and her butt-crack. Uhm.
    NO.

    • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

      Yeah, cover the crack, Uma.

    • Louisa says:

Yeah seriously!! Everyone is fawning over the dress and saying its stunning but my god doesn’t anyone else see that she is showing her butt crack on a red carpet

  2. Rachillnz says:

How are ambers boobs so perky? Her nipples are way up there, small implants? I need to know

    • paolanqar says:

she probably wears pasties on a very perky pair of boobs.

    • qwerty says:

She had implants in the past year or two for sure. Saw her topless leaked pics from the whole icloud mess, they were tiny.

  3. Tifygodess24 says:

All of these dresses are random and pretty off theme but Rosie looks absolutely gorgeous. Stunning. And her date isn’t too bad himself 😉

  4. Jib says:

    Ass crack? Just no.

  5. vauvert says:

Rosie is glorious and that dress is a dream.
I haven’t seen the back of Uma’s dress but the front is stunning, way to go.

I love Rose but her dress looks like a bunch of ruffles got together for an orgy and this is the mourning after. Not a good look. At all.

Cant stand Ivanka, so any opinion about her dress would be automatically biased.

I love Amber’s dress – why do I feel like she has worn this one or a very similar one before? But she needs to go easier on the face tanners, and that beachy hair style really doesn’t suit the retro Hollywood glam of the dress. She continues the mouth breathing, but luckily her jewelry is distracting me enough to pay no attention to that. Also, the fact that she is solo makes her look better. The fashion disaster that JD has become lately brings down any look she may attempt.

    • Calcifer says:

Amber’s dress looks almost identical to the white satin dress she wore in the film London Fields. Same drapey look, deep décolleté and thigh-high split. Same hair as well. She looks very sexy and quite boring at the same time. I am sure men love it – mission accomplished.

    • carol says:

Yep loved Rosie and Amber’s looks. I have the same feeling about Ivanka.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

      I agree Rosie looks STUNNING!

  6. what's inside says:

Rosie has the most incredible look and Uma looked awesome except for the unfortunate butt crack reveal. Amber’s dress was blah, while Ivanka looked marvelous – that color really suited her.

  7. Kris says:

Rosie is incredibly beautiful. I agree that she could wear a sack and would still look beautiful, but the dress is incredible as well.

I also really really love Uma Thurmans look.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I’m probably the only one, but I don’t find her pretty. Not even a little bit. And that dress fits her well, but it’s so boring and not suited for the Met Gala. So very meh.

Rose on the other hand, is so pretty she manages to look good in a bad dress and harsh makeup.

  8. Embee says:

Oh no. I foresee a slew of butt-cleavage fashion for the summer. It’s really pretty predictable given the current fascination with enhanced derrières. My mind is telling me “it’s no different than boob cleavage stop being fussy” but I’m old and I can’t help feeling a bit squeamish about it. It’s just not pretty to me. And I like butts! Sigh.

  9. Zadie says:

Rosie is a goddess, that is all.

  10. mellie says:

All these girls/gowns…absolutely stunning. That red on Ivanka is gorgeous!

  11. GingerNYC says:

Rosie looked amazing! I also loved Doutzen Kroes’ white dress, both women were just stunning.

  12. Jayna says:

    Rosie is a vision.

  13. Pitag says:

Rosie is stunning, I’m not even sure is a real dress it might as well be paint, amazing.
Amber, pretty and boring or should I say pretty boring?
Rose, magically it all works together, at least for me, she looks great
Ivanka, well what can she do, she is a business woman I guess it is not good business to go crazy with a robotic dress
Uma one word, butt-cleavage @EMBEE thank you that defines it

  14. Diana B says:

They all looke great (even with Barnes’ too heavy make up) but They didn’t even try with the theme which was disappointing.

  15. Danny says:

    FashionAmber looks stunning.

  16. MAC says:

Rose is a lovely woman, but the dress especially on the top could have been better designed and fitted

  17. tacos and tv says:

A lot of ppl are not sticking with the theme this year. kinda weird. Rosie is on another level of fantastic. I mean, what the what? She looks beautiful. Amber, and I know this is mean, looks washed up. She needs to get some highlights and really do something different with her look.

  18. Twinkle says:

She was a tall drink of water. That’s the greatest compliment!

  19. Camille says:

Rosie looks flawless. Her body is ridiculous. Best bod in Hollywood.

  20. lucy2 says:

Rosie’s dress isn’t all that exciting, but she looks gorgeous.
I think Amber looks kind of trashy.
