Considering Karl Lagerfeld’s close relationship with Anna Wintour, I always expect a lot of Chanel on the Met Gala carpet. But I was not expecting Chanel to be so f—king boring this year. Kristen Stewart is one of the major faces of the House of Chanel these days, and this is how she was styled. This is what Lagerfeld wants you to think of when you think of “Chanel” – bad hair, excessive eye makeup and a really boring dress.
Lily-Rose Depp is another Chanel girl, just like her mom. Lily-Rose is only 16 years old – do you find this inappropriate on someone so young? Do you find it sort of thirsty? Because I do. Plus, it looks like it was made from an old quilt.
Willow Smith and Jaden Smith coordinated their looks – she wore Chanel, he wore Louis Vuitton. And you know what? I don’t hate the brother-sister Met Gala appearance at all. I think they look really cool. Willow’s Chanel is my favorite Chanel of the night.

I agree. Stewart looked awful. One of the night’s worst dressed and styled. I get the feeling little effort or planning went into any of it. Like she probably really wasn’t into going, arrived in NY a day ahead, and put her dress on for the first time yesterday. Maybe her makeup and hair people were hung over from the night before and collectively they all said, “let’s just get this over with”.
To me it looks like Prada & Chanel (2 of the 3 co-chairs) totally phoned it in this year.
I’ve never understood Stewart’s appeal other than the Twihards putting her on a pedestal. IMO she is not good-looking, she’s built like a 12-yo boy, she has a crappy attitude, no fashion sense, always appears to be in need of a good scrubbing, and only shows up for events for photo ops and media attention. Her dress is not flattering – enhances the tween boy build, and the booties are too played/lame. She has good bone structure. That’s all I got.

I thought Karl loved Kristen, so not sure why she is wearing a recycled shag carpet. But there we are. And the makeup almost made her unrecognizable.
Lilly Rose went for the “poor lounge singer makes outfit from old curtain” look. I honestly don’t believe that children belong at this event and that’s what she is. It’s not so much that the look is too old for her, is that she is too young for the occasion.
I also don’t think the Smith children belong there either, but what do I know. I am old fashioned and think kids belong in schools and gyms and out with friends their own age, having slushies while riding their bikes, researching colleges and doing chores for pocket money. Maybe baby-sitting or refereeing tikes soccer. That sort of thing.

These children are too young – for modelling, for endorsements, for being the face / brand ambassadors/ spokespersons for these adult brands. I could understand if Zendaya (star of a Disney show) would be a spokesperson for a teen fashion brand. Great.
But famous for being the children of famous parents kids like Lilly and Willow are 1. just showing off what nepotism can accomplish and 2. I think at their age they should not be the face of an adult oriented company, or attending these type of events. They should be off doing teenage things, and the companies should be hiring people that could sell me in my decrepit 40s their $30 lipstick and $4,000 purse. I know these teens have a million followers on Twitter and that’s what gets them the job but I only have to look at the Jenner girls and see that the results are not good – not for the young people themselves, despite the money they make, and not for their young and impressionable following.

I like what Kristen and Willow are wearing. And especially their styling, the juxtaposition of classic and funky. Chanel is already famous for their classic style, bringing young and modern styling is good move. It’s fun and personal like it should be.

There’s nothing wrong with that necessarily, but she tends to act like fashion and make-up adverts are shallow and beneath her.

The way I see it, and it’s quite common in my culture (Venezuelan), is that you see it, you say it, so to speak: so, if someone stands like a Victorian era consumptive I think it’s OK to say, hey, you look a bit like a Victorian era consumptive, regardless of their age. Perhaps cultural differences/language issues skewed the tone for some people?
I do wonder, though, if she’d be treated so softly, with people rushing to defend her, if her parents were Kardashian or Jenner rather than Depp.

@AlmondJoy, did you change your lovely purple hair? I always look out for it, and enjoy your comments. I will have to adjust my eyes to your new, but still gorgeous, look. Your sassy wit remains the same though, I am pleased to see! I have to agree that both Smith spawn are very attractive, shame the outside doesn’t seem to quite jibe with the inside. I have hopes they they will come to value deeper education than they have been exposed to so far,as they mature. Their fashion game is surprisingly on point, and can only get better in the future.

Their fashion game is definitely on point! Their lack of education can be blamed on their parents. I too hope that in the future they will really value it. They have time. Other than that they seem to be really sweet kids who aren’t offensive in the least, just a bit kooky.

I’m not sure I could have picked her out of a crowd before a month or so ago. I heard a lot about her brother, but not so much her. I had a mental picture of her as younger, sort of a pretty but gangly teenager, then she turns up here looking like a beautiful young woman. Maybe other people had the same experience?
GNAT, I can totally see that being the case with you. But you were not speaking as harshly and many others were when it comes to the Smith kids. I’m talking about the people who were bashing them mercilessly. You’re always objective in your comments and you don’t have a ridiculous amount of hate for certain celebs.
Willow wins the Chanel game hands down, with Lily Rose a close 2nd. I must say Willow will have a good career as a model if thats what she wants to do – she has that ‘spark’ the means she wears the clothes and not the other way around. Hopefully Kendal goes away, she’s terrible for a model.
I guess I’m the only one who liked Kristen’s look at the Met. I didn’t think she looked bad at all. The Smith kids looked fantastic and there was something off about Lily Rose. I think it might be the makeup.

And LMAO at the concern-trolling of Lily Rose. She’s not the first sixteen years old to smoke and affect a sullen expression, and she won’t be the last. Besides, is it any more unhealthy than subsisting on soda and fast food, as many of her peers do?
As for her weight, she would be perfectly average many places in the world. Neither of her parents are large people. This is likely her natural weight.
I don’t care if she smokes, although I think that’s a very stupid choice, whether or not you are the only one who has ever done it. I don’t care how much she weighs. I was skinny at her age and I made no effort to be. I do think the fact that she is 16 and dating a twenty something man with a child is not just an area for concern, but actually illegal in many places. It speaks very poorly of her parents.
Kristen has a very beautiful face but that fugly dress is doing her no favors. It looks too big on her. I do like the dramatic eye makeup and messy hair style. But that fug dress ruins it.
The Smiths are the best out of the bunch here.
But holy moly does Lily Rose look like her dad in that one pic! Always thought she was a dead ringer for a young Vanessa but from that angle and pout all I see is Johnny! That’s a first.
I’m normally not much of a fan of Lily Rose, but I think she looks great here. Yeah, a little loungy, but I liked to play with my look when I was young too. I love the texture, colors and fit of her dress, and even love the throw… Which is a bit like saying I like fringe… Happens once in a plaid moon.
The Smiths are a gorgeous family. Sometimes they grate on me, sometimes not.

Willow looks fantastic. Her brother looks like an idiot, but that’s mostly because of his facial expressions. Lily doesn’t look 16 at all.

People who are hating themselves for liking these kids outfits is laughable.
Kristen is completely overwhelmed by the fugly get-up she is in. She is a beautiful girl, but looks awkward and dowdy with horrible make-up and hair for such a gala event. The Smiths are growing up and looking avant garde; they look like they belong at this event. Lily Rose is such a beautiful little girl, but I really hate the look she is going for — it is too old, too world-weary, and too used up. She needs a detour from Chanel to something more suited for her age.

I like Kristen’s makeup and hair, dress is not ideal…worst though is her awkward/ungainly/uncomfortable posture and movement. Maybe Karl likes this? As an actress, why hasn’t someone taught her how to move more gracefully?? If she could swan around like Grace Kelly or January Jones, she could still be herself but in a confident way. Does she ever look comfortable?
I know I’m the minority but I think Kristen’s makeup was fantastic. Particularly the second shot of her profile, I just think it looks great for the event. Also I didn’t recognise her with that giant smile lol.
Willow, hands down. Incredibly sophisticated outfit for such a young girl and she is working it. I’m starting to look forward to seeing her walk red carpets the same way I look forward to Zendaya.
Lily-Rose = “thirsty”. I kind of get that vibe about her and not just the look.
She’s a beautiful girl and I can see why she would be an in-demand model, but I feel like she’s really being overly pushed as the next big thing. Maybe that’s just the way it is in the age of social media. I’m already starting to get tired of her and her career hasn’t even really begun.
Kristen- In theory, I get her look. I think the hair and the makeup are really cool. I even like the idea of the dress, but I think the fit of it is what really makes it bad.
Jaden and Willow – as out of touch as these kids are, I would have expect really wacky outfits. I think that’s the best Jaden has ever looked. Willow is a stunning young woman. Both kids looked great.
