Bella Hadid in Cavalli & De Grisogono jewels at Cannes: stunning or boring?

FFN_Cannes_Opening_CHP_051116_52051428

Every Cannes Film Festival, it’s always interesting to see who gets selected by Roberto Cavalli to “model” his designs on the carpet. This year’s model seems to be Bella Hadid! This is Bella at the opening night premiere of Café Society. Her Cavalli look is… a basic Cavalli gown. Sparkly, a bit lacy, not all that notable sartorially. Her date was Fawaz Gruosi, which means Bella was there to mostly model De Grisogono jewelry. Hey, it’s a real job!

More photos… I actually love Julianne Moore in this Givenchy Couture gown. This would have been stunning on Cate Blanchett too, but it looks pretty great on Julianne.

Victoria Beckham in her own Victoria Beckham design. What’s the thought on wearing high-fashion pants on the red carpet? I’m okay with it, generally speaking, but I just think these are flat-out terrible pants. The buttons down the crotch? The way the leg is cut? This is awful.

Eva Longoria wore an ivory Pamella Roland Fall 2016 gown. I remember when Eva first started promoting her various beauty contracts at Cannes, years ago. She used to go all-out with giant statement-gowns. Nowadays, she’s more subdued. I like this Roland dress, but it does have a matronly vibe and I could very easily see this on someone much older. Helen Mirren would rock the hell out of this gown.

Lily Donaldson wore a great Saint Laurent gown. Before I saw the ID, I thought “this reminds me so much of Chloe Sevigny’s famous YSL gown at the Oscars.” So, Saint Laurent is just recycling their old hits.

Talk about dead in the eyes! Is Bella even awake?

    • Megan says:

Seriously. She needs a smize lesson from Tyra.

      • Bread and Circuses says:

That’s exactly it — she’s gorgeous, head to toe, but she has to figure out how to project some personality when her face is still.

    • Size Does Matter says:

She puts the “statue” in “statuesque” – not in a good way.

      • Wren says:

Yes, she’s very pretty and has a lovely figure, but she’s such a statue. I was looking at her thinking she looked like a very lifelike waxwork. Just…… blank.

    • pretty says:

her eyes look dead because she got the eye lift. so many young celebs have done this surgery to make their eyes bigger and i’m like, it’s not just Asians that want bigger eyes, like even these white girls do it. ariana grande , kylie jenner , kim k, and this girl etc etc

      • Snowflake says:

        Wow, really, that’s crazy!

      • aurelia says:

She has 100% had her eyes done (along with the hooter) just google before and after pics. She previously had very deep set eyes and now you can see plenty of lid. Its a definate improvement.

    • D says:

Beautiful but vacant…The lights are on, but there’s nobody home.

    • Kitten says:

I LOL’d when I saw the pics because she looks so ridiculous.

    • Ames says:

Hadid’s thousand-yard-stare is seriously off-putting. I almost feel bad for her, but then I remember she’s being paid to walk around basically naked so that old guy can sell jewelry.

    • my3cents says:

She looks like a creepy mannequin

      • lucy says:

THIS. Who is this dull person and why do I have to keep seeing her? She looks like a mannequin for Zombie Prom. Not the least bit interesting!

    • WhatAmIDoingHere? says:

Terrible and the obvious hands trying to model the jewelry looking so awkward. Ugh. Some one tell these ladies it’s OK to smile and not look like a blow up doll.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

To me, she almost always looks like someone startled her so badly that she is about to cry, but her face is too botoxed allow it.

    • elns says:

HAHAHA! I know, I read the post title quickly and was like, “yeah, she does look bored.” But she ALWAYS looks bored. I love the 2nd photo, because it captions, “This is my I’m surprised I’m so bored face!”

  2. Bebe says:

How is this girl a model? She literally wears the same facial expression and it’s always a dead look. Someone call Gisele up and have her teach her something about modeling. Good God.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Right? And those hands in the second picture – this is my heart, this is my vag – so “natural” looking.

      • LadyMTL says:

ROFL, that pretty much says it all. Though I have to say I find her face stunning, but yeah, she has zero expression. The jewels are awesome, though.

      • Kitten says:

        LMAO

    • teatimeiscoming says:

The power of nepotism, and dumb people in large numbers. yay instagram.

      • anna says:

thats exactly how i feel about the hadids.

      • Kitten says:

        Pretty much.

      • Magnoliarose says:

I know. Swarms of stupid thanks to social media.

      • Tourmaline says:

Totally this… Bella is droid-like. Her level of fame is due to being Gigi’s sister and Gigi’s level of fame is due to being launched by her billionaire father and her reality TV character mother and their connections.

    • Josefina says:

I think Bella is absolutely stunning, and has a mysterious sexiness to her reminiscent of the old school models. But I agree as far as the verb model goes, she’s pretty basic. She could try smiling a little more – she has a nice, sexy smirk.

      • Anthi says:

IKR? She has a face and body that reminds me a lot of the 90’s supermodels, she’s like a cross between Carla Bruni and Laetitia Casta and maybe a bit of Bellucci. But then you look into her eyes and there’s a void. A complete blank stare. Of course she might be lively in person and cannot connect with the camera, IDK

      • lucy2 says:

She’s pretty but not a good model.

      • teatimeiscoming says:

She looks like a robot to me. Just, blank and disinterested. To each their own, I guess.

      • Wren says:

Are you sure you’re not thinking of her sister Gigi? I don’t care for either of them but every time I see Bella she looks like she’d be right at home in Madam Tussands. Gigi, on the other hand has facial expressions and at least seems genuinely alive.

      • Josefina says:

        @Wren
I think Gigi is pretty and photogenic in a very oridinary way. She has facial expressions like every other girl with an Instagram account. Bella has a special sex appeal to her I really like. Gigi has nothing out of the ordinary, imo.

  3. Locke Lamora says:

For a Cavalli gown, which are usually very tacky, I like it. And I like her never-ever-smiling red carpet pose. Too bad she got a tan, her hair and eyes look more striking when she’s pale.
    Julianne’s dress is hideous.
    Eva and Vicky look okay.
Lily looks great, and the dress isn’t that similar to Chloe’s.

    • here's Wilson says:

I admit to not searching ‘Cavalli through the years’ but from memory all his looks are basically the same.

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Julianne Moore is so beautiful, but that gown is ugly and extremely unflattering to her breasts. In fact, everyone brought the ugly except Miss Dead Eyes and Lily looks ok.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

ITA. Julianne’s dress is fug in the extreme.

      • Kitten says:

It might be the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen. And that’s saying a lot in the heyday of Marchesa and Balmain.

    • Magnoliarose says:

It’s busted beyond belief. Hate it. Enough with the strategic sheer designs. She’s a beauty but that is plain ugly.

    • lucy2 says:

I kind of like the idea of it, but the way it was actually done is a mess. It looks cheap and sloppy, and just poorly designed. Julianne deserves much, much better.

  5. Hadleyb says:

Her body is fantastic her face … ugh. Dead eyes? Nope her whole face looks dead and I will say it .. just not pretty. Bordering on ugly.

And not that weird model ugly .. I don’t want to look at her and if she is a model then I should want to look at her.

    Nepotism at its finest.

  6. NewWester says:

Hollywood should do a remake of ” Weekend at Bernies ” and cast Bella but call it ” Weekend at Bella’s” she has that dead eye look locked down.

  7. jess1632 says:

I wonder if she was thinking of horses

And lily Donaldson looks she wins this post imo

  8. Jayna says:

What a joke she’s now an “it” model with a face not that photogenic and again with the one expression she’s capable of. She does have a really great figure, The gown is gorgeous. Bella looks 30, not 19 in those photos,

Yolanda will have a fit if her non-Gigi becomes the new happening it model bypassing Yolanda’s golden child, Gigi.

    • Josefina says:

Bella has always looked much older than her age. I was actually quite surprised to learn she’s the younger Hadid.

It’s not a bad thing for her, though. I think that mature sex appeal she has makes her much more interesting than Gigi (who is very pretty in a generic way).

      • claire says:

She looked her age pre-plastic surgery, IMO. The pinched face has aged her.

      • Taxi says:

Zero appeal imo. Dead eyes, no facial expression at all. No sure she could smile if her life depended on it. No sign of a human in there anywhere. She looks anesthetized & propped up.

    • Kitten says:

      ITA.
Somebody said on a prior thread that she just has the kind of face that will always look 32, when she’s 19 and even when she’s 65. I kind of agree…whether that’s due to excessive surgery or not, I don’t know. I think her facial bone structure is what gives her a more mature look. Anyway, I can’t stand her lol.

    • Mytbean says:

But wait until you see “blue steel”. It’s not ready yet… She’s still working on it.

  9. CornyBlue says:

Bella Hadid looks so good and know people hate the Hadids here but damn thats a very very striking face.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think she’s beautiful, and I don’t hate her all, but come on, she needs to work a little at looking alive.

      • CornyBlue says:

I dunno is it not supposed to be high fashion to look like she could literally care less ?

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, I know what you mean, and I’m torn between thinking she is developing a signature look and standing in front of her waving my hands in her face to see if she is awake. Lol, I don’t know, but agree she’s beautiful.

      • Josefina says:

        @CornyBlue
Bella does it like an amateur though. Like a little girl who read an issue of Vogue and started doing those facial expressions in front of the mirror. She tenses her face too much with stiff, dead eyes. Some say Bella doesn’t try at all. I think she actually tries too hard.

      • claire says:

@CornyBlue: this doesn’t look like ‘attitude’ or ‘i could care less’. We’ve seen models accomplish that for years successfully, own it, with skill. This just comes across as bad at it, and try hard.

      • Kitten says:

To me she just looks really awkward. Not sexy, not mysterious, not aloof. Just awkward as hell.

      • Bridget says:

On a runway, a model is supposed to not overshadow the clothes. In photographs and at an event like this, she’s supposed to sell the hell out of what she’s wearing/doing/or herself. A mode’s job is to get you to want to buy stuff, and Bella isn’t doing it here.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Right? I think she’s gorgeous. And as I said, I like the no smiling thing she does.

    • Jayna says:

I think Gigi is a great model and is very photogenic. Bella is a different story.

    • Calcifer says:

I think Bella is quite unique. I like how she is somehow always a bit pale, even if she has a slight tan (as she does now) and she has the most beautiful figure. I also love her in black and white, it suits her so well.

She could easily afford to smile more though. In my opinion it wouldn’t detract from her mystique at all. A slight Mona Lisa smile would do if she wanted to keep it subtle.

    • Harryg says:

I think she’s gorgeous, but because I know what she used to look like (and she was pretty before surgery too) I always think she’s wearing a strange robot mask.

  10. Felice. says:

She has a lovely smile and yet she always does this

  11. Lex says:

She annoys me less than Kendall and even Gigi, and I don’t know why. All 3 wouldn’t be here without nepotism, but I don’t find Bella being shoved down my throat as a “supermodel”. I hope she’s bypassing them in status as I haven’t seen much of Kendall’s “work”.

  12. Tallia says:

I wish Bella would have broken out into some old school pop and lockin’. Then the robot dead eyes thing would have totally worked. Meh.

  13. Magnoliarose says:

Lily’s dress is the best even though it’s a retread. Eva looks like my mother dressed her though my mother would have styled it better.
Bella is her zombified self as usual. She’s had way too much surgery on her face as her sister has. It’s like they are Frankenmodels.

  14. DiamondGirl says:

I like Bella’s gown and Victoria looks good. Eva and Julianne look hideous. Eva’s looks like a skirt and blouse that don’t match and Julianne’s gown is weird with those flap things on the front.

  15. jenn says:

I’m surprised there’s been no mention of the old mans hand on her ass. Yuck.

    • Snowflake says:

      I’m surprised too. I noticed but I didn’t say anything, idk why I didn’t.

  16. Juniper says:

Both her and her sister always look dead miserable.

  17. serena says:

Bella Hadid reminds me a lot of Rooney Mara, same plainness and blank expression. She’s a model, and I get she’s going for the ‘mysterious vibe’, but she should at least try to look ‘alive’ and interesting.

I liked Eva Longoria’s gown, simple but really elegant.

  18. my3cents says:

Did anyone watch the show Humans on BBC?
It’s about a future filled with human like robots.
She really looks fitting for that show.

  19. lucy says:

The Spice Girl looks hilarious. So awkward!

  20. Dani8 says:

I can’t unsee Bella’s bad nose job. Her nose is too small for her face now. Then add her augmented upper lip and dead eyes and I do not see the appeal with her. She looks vacant in the smarts department also. Nothing even slightly interesting about her IMO.

  21. Mexirish says:

    Parece que está extreñida.

  22. elns says:

I keep returning to photo 2. Damn that’s a prize winner. She’s very important and bored and she has sparkly things on her very important and bored body. Do you think the photographer said, “Give me general malaise!!”

On the other hand I wish my own biological form could work a jumpsuit. alas I look like an escaped oompa loompa instead of a Posh Spice.

  23. FauxOutrage says:

Boring. The answer to any question about Bella Hadid is always boring. It doesn’t matter if she is wearing a beautiful dress, as is the case here. Her face always makes it look boring.

  24. kri says:

I love women of all ages and types and styles and colors. I find many things attractive. This person is like something out of A.I. No life, no spark, no heat or passion. No sense of humor. Not even an intriguing hauteur. What a shame that someone so young looks more frozen than any Real Housewife.

  25. caitlinK says:

I feel like I’m almost the only one, but I find the vacuous faced Bella Hadid FAR from beautiful! In fact, she looks almost homely to me in many photos (including these.) Of course, she IS the recipient of an almost full face transplant (eyes, lips, nose) so perhaps that’s why she looks so waxen and pinched faced? I think Gigi is far prettier; though Gigi, too, struggles somewhat to make clear cut expressions, she doesn’t look lobotomized, like the direly somnolent Bella.
