Looks like a movie my mother will watch. She’s 70.

    • spidey says:

Hey, just watch it you! 🙂

    • Lilacflowers says:

Looks like a movie my 87 year old great aunt will enjoy; she likes Fassy. Although she is eagerly anticipating The Black Panther. She really likes Chadwick Boseman and Michael B Jordan.

  2. Sarah01 says:

My kind of movie this is going to be treat.

  3. Mia4s says:

That movie (regardless of quality) is going to make a fortune.

  4. Abigail says:

I liked the book (The Light between Oceans) and the trailer looks as if it captures the emotion of the story. Looking forward to it!

    • ladyE says:

      I agree – I liked the book a lot

    • Tash says:

I agree. The ending was a bit rushed in my opinion but still, it was a decent read.
Can’t wait for the movie. It looks good.

    • Andrea says:

I loved the book too—I agree the ending was a bit meh, but overall great book!

    • SKF says:

Great cast but TERRIBLE attempt at Australian accents. I knew this would happen. There are plenty of great Aussie actors. Use them if your actors can’t even get close to the right accent! Kate Winslet does a perfect Aussie accent, Meryl’s is okay. Barely anyone else can do one.

      • cd3 says:

OMG, I didn’t even realize they were attempting to do Australian accents. Thought it was some kind of tragic mangled British accent!

  5. meme says:

this looks better than any of those dumb comic book movies

    • Camille says:

      I agree!

It’s got a great cast, I’ll definitely be checking this out. I don’t get why it apparently looks ‘bad’?

    • Kayla says:

Why do you need put down a whole genre of movies to uplift something you like…

  6. Dingding says:

    Nope, trailer looks quite good.
Love, family drama, a bit of mystery, moral dilemma and of course great acting!

  7. roxane says:

I thinks this trailer is the defination of melodramatic, it’s not for me. Crying and crying, even if I like all the actors involved.

    • Carol says:

Yes, I agree. It looks so overwrought. Like a LIfetime movie.

      • OriginallyBlue says:

Yes that’s what I thought the first time I saw it. I’m also kind of over Alicia’s worried cry face in all her movies.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree. The story looks ridiculous and contrived to pull at your heartstrings. I don’t mind sad, but come on, a baby survives by itself in a boat lost at sea?

      • Esmom says:

Lol, it actually doesn’t seem as contrived in the book. I didn’t hate the book and it sparked a good discussion among my group. I did really like one thing and that was the sense of place, this remote island lighthouse. The movie seems to capture that well. Yes I think it’s a bit melodramatic but I’ve seen worse.

    • Dingding says:

The Trailer is just a few minutes of the whole thing and they do usually show a few dramatic scenes which might draw the audience’s interest.

And in the story the baby might not have survived by itself on a boat but Daddy and baby got into a boat and daddy fell out of the boat and boat floated away and baby was luckily found a few hours later when boat washed onto beach.

The story itself is rather dramatic and surely sad. Maybe not for everyone but that is not a sufficient basis to diss a movie.

  8. lizabeth says:

Not read the book, but this looks pretty good to me. I love a bit of melodrama…

  9. Neelyo says:

I was bored until I saw Rachel Weisz.

  10. Saks says:

I’m not familiar with the book and I liked this trailer except for Fassbender, he seemed a bit emotionless (I don’t know if that is part of his character), on the other hand, Rachel and Alicia seem to be very good on this film

    • Kate says:

Yeah, the Fassbender character is supposed to be a bit remote and that causes fractures in his relationship with his wife.

  11. H says:

They filmed part of the movie in Tasmania, where I grew up, so despite hating the book, I’m going to see the film just to see my hometown. My cousins had seen Fassbender in town while they were filming and was unimpressed with him. 🙂

  12. Andrea says:

I can’t wait for the movie!

  13. Andrea says:

I’m sad Russell Brand didn’t impregnate me. Happy he is finally getting a child he has always wanted. I think that’s why he and Katy Perry split. She just loves relationship drama.

  14. Rhiley says:

Everyone I have talked to who has read the book says it is kind of a mess. I don’t know. It looks pretty.

    • Andrea says:

My book club read the book and everyone loved it!

    • CL says:

It’s a love/hate book. There’s a huge moral dilemma, nobody does what I wanted them to, and I almost cried myself into a sinus infection.

      • cd3 says:

I loved the book, but am very disappointed the trailer isn’t showcasing the remoteness and isolation of the island that the two main characters spend most of their time on. That was like an additional character in the book, and was really looking forward to seeing that captured on film.

  15. Jessie says:

Why are they so obsessed with paintings Scott as someone who gets with all the Kardashian sisters? First Kourtney, then Kendall was carrying his pretend love child, and now Kylie. What a ridiculous fake narrative.

  16. jammypants says:

Never read the book. Trailer looks good to me. I like all the actors in the film.

  17. Minxx says:

I love Rachel Weisz but I’ll wait for this to come to cable. Looks like another period melodrama, starring crying Alicia Vikander. Besides, the age gap between her and Fassbender bothers me. I know they’re not really that far apart in age but in the trailer she looks like a teen and he looks so much older than usual. The little girl is adorable though.

    • ladytron2000 says:

Good grief! My thoughts exactly. She looks like an adolescent & Fassy looks old enough to be her father! 🙁

  18. knower says:

It’s funny cause Weinstein was hoping this would be an Oscar contender. That’s what their whole PR relationship was supposed to ultimately culminate to – two oscar nods for The Light Between Oceans this season.

I’m not sure if anybody has peeked at the remaining releases of this year. Not only are basically all movies with white leads (so, it will be repeat #oscarsowhite, not surprising) but the crazy thing is…there are next to no oscarbait worthy titles. Only Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Manchester By The Sea and Loving (only potential Oscar contender I see with a POC lead, the amazing Ruth Negga) – stand out to be strong competitors. It should be noted that Amazon is the reason Manchester By The Sea will be a player in the game.

I don’t think the studios realize what repercussions will happen if they put all their energy into the franchises and create no dramas that would be nominated. The awards will become and even bigger joke bc they’ll literally have NOTHING to nominate. Also, streaming giants like Amazon will take advantage of the gaping hole in supply….the studios faltering is the tech giants’ gain, as well as indies…

    • Jenna says:

Not really… there’s also Fences with Denzel and Viola, Hidden Figures with Taraji and Octavia, and Birth of a Nation too. Also a young Native American actress in Certain Women, and an indie called Moonlight that is getting buzz. I don’t think OscarsSoWhite will be a thing this year.

Agreed with your last paragraph though.

    • Abigail says:

Weinstein has nothing to do with The Light Between Oceans, either in producing it or releasing it. The Weinstein link has been pushed by those who hate the fact that MF and AV are a couple, and who insist on believing that Weinstein has totally manipulated their “PR” relationship. Shades of the Cumberbatch insanity.

I do agree with your last paragraph. The dramas today are all indies, and original streaming dramas are becoming more and more important as well.

  19. TAXX says:

I’m calling it, The Light Between the Oscars. TOTAL bait. Of course its a Weinstein production…

    • OriginallyBlue says:

Definitely Oscar bait, but I thought the release date didn’t put it a good position to be nominated? Then again they will probably play fast and loose with the rules to get this in since it is Harvey. Not surprisingly Alicia has another movie out this year that is a Weinstein production. Another period piece featuring her one facial expression.

      • Minxx says:

LOL. I’ll be more generous and say that she has three facial expressons: open mouth (the ingenue look), the tight face (the angry and determined look) and crying (most reliable look).

      • Cherry says:

Harvey Weinstein has nothing to do with this movie. Tulip Fever is from the Weinstein Company and it’s being dropped in July (likely not an Oscar contender).

      • ladytron2000 says:

        Mixxx for the win! LOL

  20. Dash says:

Are the characters in Light Between Oceans meant to be Australian? The accents are all over the place.

  21. Iggysaurus says:

    Yay Russell! <3
