Demi Lovato wore a Chanel suit, transgender symbol shirt to the BBMAs

Demi Lovato wore this Chanel suit to the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday. Judging from the Chanel looks we saw at Cannes, Lagerfeld (or his minions more likely) have been dialing it in lately. This looks cheap, it’s just a lingerie look top with a black and sparkly blue pinstripe suit jacket and wide pants. In fact I thought this might be McQueen, just going by Chloe Grace Moretz’s recent nightie dress. (I’m crap at identifying designers though.)

On the red carpet, Demi looked like she was shaking a little bit and she covered her eyes a few times. It looked like she was getting panicky, the flashes were bright and it was very sunny out, but she composed herself and seemed ok after that. She killed her performance of “Cool For The Summer,” which is no surprise since Demi is a powerhouse performer. You can see that here. Demi wore a mesh shirt onstage with an overlay of the transgender bathroom symbol, which was nice. She and Nick Jonas previously canceled shows in North Carolina in alliance with the LGBT community. So this was a show of support.

Here’s Tove Lo, she performed “Close” with Nick Jonas ahead of Demi’s performance. They were really hot together and it was one of many excellent, rousing performances last night. (You can see a clip with a lot of commentary here, it’s been hard to find the videos online.) Her fashion on stage was pretty cool, a black suit with a cutout stomach. On the red carpet though, she wore this orange crochet Stella McCartney mess. It showed off her hot figure but the overall look is very Woodstock meets Bonnaroo. At least her styling fits.

Lindsey Stirling, a violinist who did a solo during Celine Dion’s performance of “The Show Must Go On,” (more on that in a moment) was in Murmur. On the red carpet she said she felt like Ariel from Little Mermaid. This isn’t bad, it was one of a few nude dresses last night and I actually like the stitching. I think it would have looked cuter without the bottom tulle half of the skirt.

Zendaya was in a nude Calvin Klein Collection bra and skirt combo. This looks comfortable at least and the train is a cool feature I didn’t notice last night. Zendaya is so versatile. I really liked the thick black glasses she wore during the show.

Update: Here’s Heidi Klum in a new designer, Alfredo Villalba. This is a great dress for this event and I love the kind of wide cutouts along the neckline along with the netting on the gown. The only issue is that I was confused by the white underlay, like it looked messy somehow. On closer inspection there’s some kind of pattern running through it. It doesn’t make sense to me, but at least it doesn’t detract too much from the dress.

SO tired of the whole see through trend in clothes.

  2. Myrna says:

Zandaya is a beauty with a lovely sweet personality and seems to have an old soul given her poise and thoughtful words.
She can wear anything – rocks every look.
I am a fan and look forward to seeing her do great things.

I never could with Demi Lovato but was recently surprised when I heard her belt out a song at the Grammy’s was it?
    Incredible voice.
Last time I saw a performance she sounded off pitch and shrilly – so at least I now know that she can at least sing.

I agree about Zendaya, but it’s such a shame she’s such a bad actress. Too bad likability and talent aren’t always correlated.

Tove Lo is georgeous, but this look is such a mess.

    • minx says:

She is one of the former Disney kids who has a very good voice, unlike, say, Selena Gomez.

      • Mar says:

She is still very much a Disney Kid. She has her own show on Disney now and it’s actually really funny.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

I think she was talking about Demi. (Although, Zendaya’s voice is better than Selena’s too in my opinion).

    • Dee says:

Zendaya really is breathtaking. She should really go after modelling!

    • HeyThere! says:

I also had no idea Demi was packing that voice. Incredible. I had no idea?! I follow her in snapchat and she kills it in this awesome gym daily! Her workouts are so hardcore and I want to workout with her!!!! She looks strong and fit. Love it!

  3. Pants says:

Heaven help me, I kind of love Tove Lo’s orange dress. I don’t mind Demi’s look either, though I’d have had a different shirt. But the jacket and pants are good in my opinion.

  4. JenniferJustice says:

Demi does have an incredible voice but she can’t seem to just focus on her talent and stop trying to latch on to the hot button issue every year wether it’s feminism, disorders, drug-use, LGBT, whatever….she needs to stop trying so hard as she’s become predictable in her attempts to associate herself with every issue as well as not having credible input about any of said issues. I’m all for supporting rights and equality, but I swear, if the topic d’jour were chemical spills, she’d be wearing something with the skull and crossbones poison graphic on it. Tiring.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

She has an annoying personality and is definitely self-righteous (especially with the things she’s said about feminism), but I think that’s the problem- not necessarily that she doesn’t care about the things she’s supporting, but that the more grating parts of her personality shine through.

    • MC2 says:

I agree with Otaku in that the problem isn’t her caring about issues but that her flaws come through while she is trying to push the issues.
I do think Demi has brought attention to some very good issues and I disagree that she doesn’t have credible input on some of them. She was the only star I remember who battled with a drug/alcohol addiction & eating disorder and came out talking about it straight out. No “she went to rehab for exhaustion”. Nope- she just said what issues she had and that she was working on them. This was also after she as got skewered for her issues and not “handling herself”. Dinsey wasn’t going to help her now that she was off the rails- just distance themselves & the media was trashing her. I remember that she lived in a sober living house for a long time after rehab instead of going back to her mansion. I give her mad props for that.
She gets fired up for sure but I’m glad she is on the scene. I feel like she is the only young singer out there right now that actually speaks how it is and won’t cover up weird, creepy stuff. We need more like her imo. And she actually has talent to boot.

    • JenniferJustice says:

For me, it’s not the grating personality so much as the hypocracy and denial. Yes, she did address her drug problems and eating disorder honestly and genuine, but we don’t know that that was of her own volition or her PR team or even Simon Cowell, which would not surprise me.

What is not honest or genuine is the continued talk about confidence, feminism, etc. whilst staying with her mysogynist cheating controlling boyfriend who was probably at the root at least partially for her drug abuse and eating disorder (instilling in her a lack of confidence, and insecurity because she didn’t measure up to the usual picks of his choice). When she dumps that manipulative loser, I’ll listen to what she has to say, but until then, her being with him pretty much cancels out everything she says about everything else.

      • MC2 says:

I hear what you are saying and I’ve never liked Wilmer but I won’t discount all the things she might have to say because she has horrible taste in men.
The fact that there is a young woman on this terribly vapid scene that is sober & does talk about body image, feminism and the lot is a good thing in my eyes. I don’t know all the details of her life or relationship but I still think she is good in the mix and I appreciate her voice. She also appears to be a young hot head with a good reason to be pissed off- she was a Disney darling so I’m sure she has her stories. Every woman in this society should be pissed at her age, imo and I’m glad someone is making noise.
I side eyed the hell out of her choice in a boyfriend but I try not to put a partner’s past behaviors onto someone. I’ve known a lot of good, smart women who choose to be with total a-holes.

  5. Michelle says:

Yeah Demi, we North Carolinians see what you did there with the whole t-shirt thing and quite frankly, we have already forgotten that you were supposed to come to NC.

    • SpareRib says:

Thats cute but the rest of the world hasn’t forgotten NC’s disgusting attack on the Transgender community, so its long past time for you to hop off that high horse.

      • Michelle says:

Not on a high horse thank you very much, but she could have had her concert and donate all the money she would have made to a BGLAD organization or something like that. In my opinion (and we know opinions are like belly buttons, we all have one) she is just jumping on the latest hot button topic.

    • MC2 says:

One entertainer said that they wouldn’t come to NC because if they did, then all the people working on their tour would have to come, stay & use the restrooms in NC. That made sense to me. A tour is not about one person and I know that if I was part of the trans community then I would not feel safe traveling there right now.

  6. Erica_V says:

I thought having her sing her hit from last Summer was boring.

Tove Lo is my girl crush i love her.

That nude dress with the stitching is the pattern for a dress, not an actual real dress. This is your big moment, and that’s what you decide to wear?!?!

    • Chicken Salt says:

Yeah, that nude dress reminds me of one of those mannequins used to fit and put together dresses.
