Okay, but Carla is using the same arguement as implied by the husband stealing arguement. That somehow the wife is responsible if the husband’s d*** wanders. I’m sorry but a wife or girlfriend is NOT responsible for her significant other’s behaviour.

I’m getting sick of this idea and how it’s perpetuated.

If Carla wants to let herself off the hook for abetting someone else breaking their marriage vows then she needs to do it without trying to pass off the husband’s behaviour as the wife’s responsibility or suggesting it somehow under another person’s control because if that’s the case how about HER responsibility. Not to mention that if it’s up to his wife (a woman) to control a husband’s (a man’s) behaviour then is it that far of a stretch to say that Carla (a woman) is merely taking advantage of that same process – by her own argument.

If a man cheats it’s because he’s in full possession of his faculties. If he knows that there’s a situation where he can’t control himself then it’s HIS RESPONSIBILITY to keep himself out of that situation and to avoid anything that could lead to that situation. Palming off your personal responsibility is just weak.

She has fantasies of power, no? You cannot control the husband. You can drive him away I suppose. Or you can fail to give him what he wants (and is a reasonable expectation of marriage). Many men do not want fidelity, though.

I would like to see Carla Bruni hold a powerful, status husband when she is older – I’ll be even she can’t do it if he doesn’t want to be there.

Good point about Kennedy (and Clinton) etc. I am really hoping that Pres. Obama’s apparent respect for the feelings of his wife and daughters will translate into a new way to regard women in the US.

As I recall, when Mitterand was in office, he had a car accident in the wee hours of the morning. The leading newspapers discussed everything about the accident…then, in the 15th or 16th paragraph, they wrote that at the time, in the car with him, was a woman who “bore very little resemblance to the First Lady” (i.e., it was his mistress). In an American newspaper, the headlines would have screamed, CLINTON CAUGHT WITH TRAMP IN CAR ACCIDENT or something like that.
