Has Adele gone on the Sirtfood Diet & switched to green tea to lose weight?

I didn’t forget to cover Adele in the Billboard Music Awards round-up on Monday, I just wasn’t sure if I should devote a post to her new music video. Should I have done it? There was so much other stuff to discuss! So let’s talk about it now. Adele dropped “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” at the BBMAs, and I’m very happy. This is one of my favorite songs off of 25 and it’s a great workout jam too. The video is… interesting.

I actually don’t think Adele is a really strong “video artist.” She’s known for the music, not for making great, memorable videos, although (obviously) her video for “Hello” was viewed about a billion times. So while I’m not crazy-in-love with this video, I don’t think it really matters. The song is great and radios will probably play it non-stop.

A lot of people were talking about how thin Adele looked in this video too. She’s been talking a lot about how much she enjoys designer clothing more these days now that she can fit into a lot of this stuff. The dress she wore in the video is Dolce & Gabbana, and it’s been said that Adele has been dropping serious money on her new wardrobe habit now that she’s lost weight. Back in December, Adele said the biggest diet change she’s made in the past year was giving up her daily habit of 10 cups of sugary tea. But according to the Daily Mail, she’s doing more than that.

She once declared she would never lose weight because of pressure from the music industry. But as it was reported that she has just signed a record-breaking £90 million deal, Adele was doing a very good impersonation of someone on a diet. Accepting one of five accolades at the Billboard Music Awards, the singer looked stunningly svelte – a contrast to the curvier look she sported when she first found fame.

The Mail can today reveal the secret behind this weight loss: The Sirtfood Diet and a fitness plan from trainer Pete Geracimo – whose clients include David Hasselhoff and Kim Cattrall. The diet, which Mr Geracimo recommends, encourages slimmers to eat plant foods, such as kale and buckwheat, known as sirtuin activators, which suppress appetite and activate the body’s ‘skinny gene’. This is the same process caused by fasting or exercise and the sirtuins – also known as ‘housekeeping genes’ – help control the way our bodies handle fat and sugar, regulating appetite as a result.

The eating plan complements a gruelling gym regime and sees Adele consume the likes of green tea, cocoa powder and turmeric, that are high in sirtuin activators. But, anyone worried the singer, 28, is being pressured into starving herself in the name of beauty can rest easy: The diet still allows her to indulge in her favourite red wine and cheese.

A source said: ‘The Sirtfood Diet is all about losing weight and feeling fantastic through eating great-tasting food. It’s based on extensive research into the power of key plant foods, which when added to our diet turn on fat burning and improve wellbeing.’

Do you think Adele is really following this kind of diet, or any kind of diet? I suspect she probably did hire some kind of nutritionist or something for her tour, so she’ll be able to function and stay relatively healthy. But I also believed Adele when she said for years that she didn’t really care, that she was never going to be the thin girl in the tight dress on the red carpet. As for this diet in particular… it sounds okay? Tumeric is good for you. Green tea is good for you. Kale is good for you.

I can attest that fasting has completely halted my hypoglycemic tendencies, so has obviously allowed my body to regulate it’s insulin levels more appropriately even on days when I do eat normally. I love it, though it can be a challenge to make it through a work day with nothing in your stomach.

    • NorthernGirl_20 says:

I’ve been doing the fasting and walking and I’ve lost 27 pounds. I feel much better and same as you – hypoglycemia is better. I have more energy, I look and feel better.

    • Timbuktu says:

How do you fast? Not every day, I imagine? 🙂

  2. Clara says:

Whatever she is doing she looks damn good on it.

  3. minx says:

She looks great…she has incredible skin and beautiful eyes.

    • susiecue says:

She does! She looks like Kate Winslet a little bit as she gets thinner.

i thought she looked a bit like Sarah Paulson, and if they photoshop her hard enough… Emily Blunt.

on the Sirtfood diet front, i don’t believe. Adele tends to blurt things out without prompting especially things she’s so excited about—food, meeting Bruce Springsteen, constipation… so unless there’s a concert video of her saying Sirtfood yay, i don’t believe it.

i do believe however that she’s on some sort of strict regime regarding food and drinks. she never successfully completed a whole tour before, so i think she’s determined now.

speaking of the video, read somewhere (on twitter maybe) that the director of the MV was having a bad migraine on the day of the shoot. apparently he’s sharing the experience with us.

goodness gracious. the song is ‘Bopping’ as my children would say but the video is not doing any favors.

as a last aside, can we get more pics of Adele that also includes her hunk of a bodyguard in the frame?

    Good for her!

  5. Ellie66 says:

Love her! Love the song but the video gave me a headache to much blurry stuff going on there. Adele looks great though! 😊👏🏼

  6. DazLondon says:

I think Adele has moved on from her fast food diet and been eating right for a long time.
It’s just that she had a baby. No one guessed she was pregnant, people thought she was just getting fat again.

  7. lazypants says:

I imagine it’s hard not to let it all get to you when you’ve been in the industry for so long, and yes, the clothes are nicer when you slim down. BUT, you also see a lot of positive health benefits, not just weight loss, from eating better. So long as she’s doing it the healthy way (nutritionist), I think she looks amazing.

  8. Frosty says:

I’m saying “slimming” instead of “dieting” from now on.

  9. paolanqar says:

I love Adele but that video hurts my eyes.

  10. JustCrimmles says:

I wish my hair would do that! It’s about the same length, possibly the texture (except mine isn’t highlighted) but noooo, it’s just dumb and mushroomy at the ends. Curse you, Adele, for giving me hair fantasies my own cannot achieve! Curse you!!! *shakes fist* and I don’t like your red dress! 😣

    😉

  11. LadyJane says:

She looks like Kate Winslet now, circa Titanic.

  12. Luca76 says:

I think she looks great. I think she maybe eating healthier but I don’t expect her to ever be a waif good on her!

  13. Luxe says:

    She’s freakishly beautiful.

I agree that she didn’t lose weight because of music industry pressure. She would have done it earlier in her career if so. She looks healthy and happy and she did it for herself.

  14. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

This is a great little pop ditty! A welcome change from the ballads.
She is such a lovely young woman.

  15. bondbabe says:

Her video was simplistic in set staging but, to me, it was so mesmerizing! I loved it.

  16. Lucy says:

She looks fantastic! If this is true, then it’s working. I, too, believe her when she says she only cares about her weight when it comes to her health.

  17. Locke Lamora says:

She must be following some kind of a diet because she lost half her body weight. And you don’t get that just by drinking less tea.
She’s gorgous either way, what a stunning face. I do think she had a nose job, but the result is very natural.

  18. shannon says:

I just wish I could get my bob to look like this.

  19. gwen says:

I think Adele looks especially pretty in this video..

  20. Dolkite says:

I like her kinda chubby (says the guy who will not date until he loses at least 50 lbs).
