Chelsy Davy, best known as Prince Harry’s on-and-off girlfriend, has a new interview in Town & Country. Chelsy was never all about using her royal connections to get media attention or anything else, but she’s been more friendly to media outlets recently. She already comes from a wealthy family, and she seems too self-possessed and un-precious to want that kind of fishbowl existence of being famous for dating a prince. After she graduated from law school, Chelsy worked for a few years in London, but she returned back to her homeland in Africa to start her own business. The business is called Aya Africa, and it’s all about non-conflict jewelry. The proceeds from the jewelry sales will go towards children’s education in Africa, so Chelsy claims, although that part seems rather vague right now. What I found interesting about this interview is that she answers some Prince Harry-related questions directly. Here’s that part:
It’s not hard to see why the Prince fell for this clever, confident, go-getting blonde. Davy describes herself as “quite fearless, growing up in Africa will do that to you, I think.” She must be, I saw, to contemplate dating a Windsor. “Yeah, sure,” she agrees with a reluctant giggle. The latest gossip-magazine rumors suggest the two are an item again, but though Davy confirms they’re still on friendly terms, she says she is single. “I’m quite busy at the moment and I do move around quite a bit,” she explains, wryly.
So, no regrets that she’s not a princess? “Oh, goodness! No, I’m very happy with that I’m doing right now,” she says fervently. “I’m very sure of who I am and what I want out of life.”
[From Town & Country, print edition]
Huh. I guess I believe her. Mostly because I believe that if Chelsy wanted to be with Harry right now, they would be together right now. If she called him today and told him that they should be together, Harry would fall in line, I suspect. But I do think it’s interesting that when she’s asked if she has regrets about not being a princess, her immediate reaction is to think “I’m very sure of who I am and what I want out of life.” Meaning, she’s always known that she doesn’t want to be a princess. Meaning, she was never going to waity around for years.

They were very cute together. It’s got to be tough on Harry to know that he’s got to find a woman who wants to be a career princess. Because I don’t think that is the type of woman he is attracted to.
Yep. And probably tough on Chelsy if she loves him but not his life. But she’ll still end up with someone great, having the entire jet-setting world to choose from, while Harry’s options are more limited.
I have never heard this woman speak
That’s what I was thinking two secs before I read your comment
Well, Harry didn’t ask, so it wasn’t an option. I doubt Harry pines for any of his exes. Some posters are the ones who try to paint their story in a different light, star-crossed lovers. My take, it was a relationship that ran its course in their 20s.
I agree, I hate when Harry is painted as the poor lonely soul waiting for Chelsy’s call.
Yeah, I’ve never understood why this woman still gets brought up.
I agree, it was a long time ago and I’m guessing they have both moved on. My guess is Harry will remain a bachelor throughout his 30’s and then settle down.
It was a youthful relationship — nothing more, nothing less. I think people make too much of it.
Chelsy is going down the “I’m going to speak about my royal relations to advertise my newest project” road. Sad. I disagree that Harry would be taking her back if she wanted to. That’s exactly what all the tabloids want you to believe. Poor, lonely Harry still pinning for his ex. He’s better than that.
I don’t think she’s going down that road entirely voluntarily. If she’s going to sit down for an interview, that’s naturally a question that will come up. If it keeps happening then I’ll give her the side eye. But to address it in one of her first (?) interviews isn’t problematic to me. In fact, the way she addressed the questions, almost sounded as though she knew they were coming, but wanted to give straightforward, no non-sense answers so as to shut down any future questions and/or speculation.
But I agree, that we need to stop treating Chelsy as the “one that got away.” She and Harry broke up a few times, and it can’t all be due to the public life. I’m sure they were very much in love but also had their differences. Also, Chelsy and Harry are still on friendly terms because they run in the same social circles. That forces–for better or worse–a level of friendliness and maturity. I mean, it’s always good to be mature, but sometimes it’s satisfying to be petty. Haha!
I don’t see any problem in her using her connections, it’s not like she was with him just for the publicity. But yeah, I also don’t think he’s still pinning for her, and I never bought that he wanted to get married. In fact I actually think she would have been on board.
I’m sure she asked Harry if he would be cool with her talking about their relationship. She doesn’t seem like the type of person who would use her royal connection. If she was that type, she would have been using it a long time ago. Also, she is still friends with him!
Chelsy has been doing this jewelry line for a while now, so she’s not promoting a “new” project.
The jewelries were only uploaded onto the online store less than a month ago. She had started promoting it for some time though, most noticeably at the Burberry advertisement launch in that revealing black jumpsuit. Her fingers were also noticeably placed to show off the rings to best effect while she was sitting in the cab. I’ve checked out the store site – the tusk/horn inspired designs have been done to death so nothing original about them. They are overpriced for the tiny gemstones on an unknown brand.
I must admit I am disappointed in Chelsy. If she truly wants to give back to Africa, she could do pro-bono work as a solicitor. Instead, she is “designing” unoriginal and overpriced jewelries and still partying away as usual. Seen some recent pictures of her back in London, the socialite life.
Just as she is sure of not wanting to be a princess, Kate obviously was sure of wanting to become one . It’s a personal choice and it has nothing to do with weakness of character. It reminds me an argument of some who insist that a woman should not want to be just a wife/mother. Chelsy wanted one life, Kate another and both obviously got what they wanted.
Eh, the “weakness of character” isn’t due to wanting to the relationship. It’s due to *how* Kate went about it. There’s a whole backstory, but to sum it up: Kate/the Middletons set her in William’s path; and then, once she was in, nothing deterred her (not even awful treatment) and she dropped her life to solidify the relationship. There’s a mountain of evidence that’s been gone over here. Hopefully one of the other posters has time to go through all of this (haha), but it’s pretty damning.
You are being naive and speculating about “the awful treatment.” Were you a part of their relationship? No. Media is an unreliable source for we all know that media needs to sell stories not tell the truth. Not to mention that every person decides for themselves what works and what doesn’t work for them in a relationship. So, please.
If one has only just started paying attention to the Cambridges during the engagement/ post-wedding years and is heavily invested in that fairy tale, then yes, this would seem like naive speculation. To others, not so much.
I disagree HH. I paid plenty of attention to them when they were dating and I have been consistent in my views that William has been utterly in love with her. I think that they had the usual hiccups that long term relationships that started in the 20s often go through. But this is a couple completely in sync and best friends.
And I say this as not-a-sugar. I don’t care for Middleton in any way – everyone who lurks here knows my views on her.
Totally agree Apples
I also agree Apples. I am no fan of Kate Middleton’s work ethic, but I don’t buy this story that she is/was mistreated by William who is never around and dated several women and only married her because she was last woman standing. It is obvious that William is completely into her and she is very happy in her life. Subtle cues in body language never lie. It is only in this little catchment of the world that there is this parallel reality that somehow the relationship is doomed.
Wills is “completely into her”? Sure. That’s why she said he wasn’t around much during George’s first six months and that’s why he left his much loved wife and children for the entire Easter weekend to go to an old friend’s wedding. Look at their body language. I agree that she’s into him, but I think he’s not that interested in her. And she’s looked miserable for months – pure speculation on my part, but I think he’s stepping out, as men of his circle do, and Kate isn’t liking it.
Everything aside, i believe chutney is best suited to William the babe( if not England and monarchy itself)
@ Apples. The position of princess is there for the spouses of William and Harry, and choosing to go for that isn’t automatically a weakness of character but how you choose to live your choices does reveal weakness of character.
This has been brought up here umpteen times and it’s so obvious, that it’s now part of their public image even with casual observers: Kate absolutely wanted to be a princess but her choices in how she’s a princess shows her weakness of character. Hours for tennis and sailing but insisting she shouldn’t be expected to show up once a year to honor the Irish Guards. And hiding behind her children, William, blaming the Windsors etc. again shows deficiencies in her character.
Kate’s definition of her role as princess is what is being criticized. If she had shown Harry’s sincerity in carrying out her role, Kate’s steadfast determination to be a princess probably would not be as negatively compared to Chelsy’s rejection of it .
But I ship Harry and Chelsy.
Me too!!
Woudl that be Cherry?
I do feel for him. I would be rather upset if the possible love of my life didn’t want to be with me because of the baggage. How sad for them both! Harry could have anyone really, except for the one he truly wants.
Good for her. I’ve been to her site. The pieces are nice. Expensive, but nice. They aren’t gaudy. They’d actually be right up Kate’s alley, but she’ll never be seen in them.
While I think she & Harry were great and would love to see them back together, that time has passed. They’ve moved on. Good for her for not subjugating her personality and her desires for a title.
I was rereading the Royal We and a line the main character says about being a royal’s girlfriend is temporary, but being the ex is forever, seems so applicable. But I guess it’s that way for anyone who dates a celebrity, royal or not. How odd it must be to always remain in the public eye, even on the fringes, and be defined and linked by that famous person you dated once you a time. Sort of like how Amanda Heard will probably always be chiefly known for that hot minute she spent as Mrs Depp, if she’s even remembered at all. Heh.
Starting off so rational and then ending with shade…. I like that.
Good for her. Some women would love to marry Royalty and some don’t.
I did like them together and always thought she was adorable.
If you’re already wealthy, what’s the appeal in becoming a royal? I’m not being sarcastic. I’m American so the concept is foreign to me. Is it just the class distinction or are some people really excited about the opportunity to serve their “kingdom/queendom” in that fashion (similar to serving in the military — in intention not action).
That is why the BRF princes are having trouble finding mates. Many in their social circle are wealthy or wealthier, some have ancestry better than that of the royals, so they don’t need to marry them. Most see it as a burden. Only the girls/women who have imbibed too much disney think it’s a fantastic thing.
Chelsy was one of my faves. I thought it was kind of cool that despite coming from money she still elected to slave away at a law firm.
Prince Harry needs to have his bff Michelle Obama to set him up with someone!
I agree Chelsy always seemed like a smart girl with a lot going on in her own life and wasn’t going to Waity for anything. Remember at one point when they were dating there were stories of her bawling out Harry at Heathrow because he was very late once to pick her up at the airport.
My first reaction to this was, ‘She looks awful, there’s a tooth in the side of her head that needs fixing, she’ll look doughy when she hits 40…’
Horrible, judgy, b!tchy things going through my head.
This is what Harry does to me. Shameful.
HOnking and sincerely hoping he finds someone wonderful. He deserves it.
‘no regrets that she’s not a princess? “Oh, goodness! No, I’m very happy with that I’m doing right now,” she says fervently. “I’m very sure of who I am and what I want out of life.”’
or that she’s not interested in someone else telling her what to do, what to want, etc. which is what happens when you’re royalty which is why william comes across so poorly to the press. harry has a bit more freedom
Waste of an education, I think.
Only in England could this ordinary person be considered even remotely beautiful. Her face has no symmetry and her nose is horrible. But then again daddy was obsessed with Camilla Horseface.
