Demi Lovato was just gushing about her boyfriend of (supposedly) six years, Wilmer Valderrama, in an interview with Latina Magazine which came out earlier last month. Demi made some stereotypical statements in that interview, saying that the white guys (her words) she dated weren’t “as passionate as my relationship with Wilmer” and that she believes “that Latin people are just more expressive, more passionate with their emotions.” She also called him “manly,” “stubborn” and “protective” which don’t sound like positive traits.
In that piece, I did the math and calculated that Wilmer and Demi have been together for about three and a half years this time, but noted that they dated previously when she was 17 and he was 29, so there’s some history there. They haven’t been together the entire time though and now they’ve split. In their statement, which they each posted to their social media accounts, they claimed that they’re breaking up after nearly six years together and that they’re better as “best friends.”
Demi just lost her great grandmother so this is doubly sad for her. She’s been posting about her great grandma on Instagram. I wonder what happened with this split and if we’ll hear a bunch of insider spin from each side like in the Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris breakup. A source told US that Wilmer is “this amazing salt of the Earth, sweet, hardworking guy and she just isn’t the right person for him.” That sounds like Demi making it seem like it’s all her fault for some reason.
This is the season of breakups and deaths and it’s making me sad. I don’t even care about these people and Demi bugs but I’m sad for her! Demi is young at just is about to go on tour with Nick Jonas, so hopefully she’s fine. She’s also really young and it’s easy to forget that she’s just 23. So Wilmer is/was her first love.
Demi went to a UFC match on Saturday with her mom and a female friend, where she looked to be in good spirits.

Then, he went on Howard Stern and discussed what sex with her was like and claimed to have taken her virginity. He took up with Lindsay Lohan when she was underage and did the same with Demi. He has a type, and it is not a good look.

Anyone who has not seen that show you need to google it just to hear how TRULY bad he is at voice acting. It sounds like someone completely bored reading from a script and putting in no effort whatsoever. What does salt of the Earth guy mean?
A basic, simple person. Not as in dumb, I guess more like low key.
Locke it means a person who is really reliable and honest. it’s a compliment. It comes from the Bible, in that the original saying is that salt (minerals) enrich the soil, so when we say someone is “salt of the earth” we mean they are enriching to their world.

I’m suprised they said they’d been dating for 6 years. Most people had assumed, but they claim they were “just” friends for ages.
I’m worried about her sobriety. They got together when Demi was at her most vulnerable. She was an alcoholic, drugged out, self harming MESS back in 2009-2010. And they way she’s talked about Wilmer being her rock totally sounded toxic. She’s gong to fall apart.
I know BG isn’t exactly a reliable source, but they’ve had stories for years that make it sound like he’s terrible for her sobriety and he cheats on her. I think she’ll be stronger/better off without him, whether those stories are true or not. But look at Lohan after she was with him. He’s toxic.
She’s relasped a few times since officially becoming clean. Notably in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Basically every time they have problems. I think she invested a lot in him, which is so not healthy in ANY relationship.
She had a deadbeat dad and a crazy stagemom on top of her issues. She was obviously looking for marriage and kids, which brings stability. Or so she thinks.

I love how all of these couple both decide they are better off as friends and it’s amicable. No broken hearts, no distancing yourself from a person after a breakup. Nope. All best friends and will continue to be and amicable. Sure. LOL She said earlier in the year that she isn’t engaged but wouldn’t mind being engaged. Both were all mushy about how in love they were in February. So how did it go from that to realizing they are better off as friends? More like he wouldn’t commit and are breaking up.

I think sometimes when you are faced with the passing of a loved one, life’s image and dreams become very clear. Maybe she realized they were just going through the motions and life is too short for that crap?! She will be fine she’s so young. Can’t believe she’s only 23! Sickeningly enough, I’m sure she just aged out of the position, so to speak. My boyfriend just turned 36, and he is literally the only guy I’ve met around that age who is willing to date someone over the age of 24-25 (I’ll be 30 next week). Must be a generational thing.
WHAT! Must be wear you live…here most people are either with someone that’s their age or the guy is 1-2 years older. I don’t know any men in their 30’s with an early 20’s bride. Seriously, I don’t. Though when I was interviewing child-care providers I did meet a young latina woman whose English was VERY minimal and she was married to a man who must have been 50 (I met him). I felt so sorry for her because she seemed miserable…didn’t smile once the whole interview (i didn’t hire her because I couldn’t imagine her watching kids because she just seemed so deeply unhappy).
