Cate Blanchett is a BIG theater person, having run the Sydney Theatre Company for many years. She got her start in Australia’s theater community, and she’s been on Broadway and on the London stage before. Cate came out for last night’s Tony Awards in this Louis Vuitton look which makes me sad. She loves experimental fashion, she loves “difficult” looks, but this is one of those rare times when she doesn’t really pull it off. This Vuitton makes me sad for Cate’s boobs. Those sad cups! And this just isn’t flattering on her at all. From the neck up, she looks great though.
Michelle Williams also wore Louis Vuitton – this is sort of simple and flattering. I like her styling too, especially the deep red lipstick. And her date for the Tonys was her BFF Busy Phillips!
Anna Wintour and her daughter came out for the Tonys. Anna wore Schiaparelli and Bee Schaffer wore Erdem. I like Wintour’s look a lot more, but I really think they should have coordinated their looks a bit so their prints wouldn’t clash.
Diane Lane in a zebra-print jumpsuit, just because. I love Lane and this ‘70s-housewife style is amazing to me.
Lena Hall in Zac Posen. Love it! She’s so tall and elegant.
Jourdan Dunn in Zac Posen. I love the color, but Posen’s designs are so overworked.

Cate Blanchett’s fashion is almost always terrible, but this might be a new low.
I agree…and she needs to wash some of that black eyeliner off her face…it’s TOO much!
Regarding her face- Botox and fillers were obvious last night. It’s so much easier to tell when they are speaking vs. still photos.
Where’s the person who was arguing with me a few months ago that she hadn’t had any work done?! LOL.
Seriously…this is awful everywhere. Super fug.
Michelle Williams is the best for me and man, what she amazing in Blackbird.
This +100000
It looks like her kid drew a dress for her and then sent it off to one of those places that turns the artwork into a “reality”
Cate looks like she’s auditioning for MadMax sequel. Everyone else looks mighty fine.
Although Diane Lane kind of looks like she’s straight out of Mad Men 1960s or Valley of the Dolls. Very Jacqueline Suzanne
Michelle looks so elegant – her look is the very clear winner. The rest range from unremarkable to awful!
MIchelle for the win…she looks gorgeous from head to toe!
I’ve never seen an Erdem dress that I liked. He seems like such a hack, with all those pajama prints on badly tailored sacks. Frump couture.
Why do these celebrities have the nerve to wear the monstrosity of Louis Vitton dress. They are AWFUL. The designs are terrible and they look as though the person did patchwork. I can do better with this dress and I am not a seamstress. Someone needs to fire who design the dress because they are atrocious.
I dont follow fashion so this is a genuine question; are floral curtain dresses in or something.
It seems to be Anna Wintour’s “thing”– I always notice that she’s in a flower print. When I see her I think Laura Ashley more than I do Yves St Laurent.
Her worship of the Kardashians doesn’t help…Vogue really needs new blood in their editorial offices. It’s so boring.
When did Michelle get bolt ons?
They’re not bolt-ons, just a good push up bra. She’s always been fairly chesty for someone so slight, she just doesn’t normally dress to show them off.
I think Williams looks like a funnel with all that ruching in the front. Unflattering IMO.
I think she looks like the inside of a casket with that ruching. 🙂
I liked cates dress except for the weird boob cups.
also Dunn is trying way too hard in that dress. It looks dramatic with the way it looks like the wind is blowing it, but she looks like she’s holding in pee and over-posing IMO.
Diane Lane!! Yay!!
The worst look of the night goes to Allison Williams. Barf it was awful.
Blanchett is a close second though.
(Runs in with battle axe to defend Blanchett honor)
(Sees dress)
(Slumps shoulders and trudges away dragging axe)
hahaha 🙂
😂😂😂😂
Hahahaha
Hahaha I didn’t believe it could be that bad either. Love her hair though and Michelle’s is lovely too.
What?!!!! Cate Blanchetts dress is boss, I’m in love with it!
90% of the time I think Cate can pull off the strangest fashion and knock it out of the park. This is one of the 10% times.
I like Lena’s, it’s very bold.
Overworked is an understatement for Jourdan’s.
What is with LV and these patchwork dresses? They dressed Vikander in a similar ugly multifabric patchwork dress for the MET ball.
Bee and her mother look like they’re wearing bedspreads. Busy looks like she’s wearing a picnic tablecloth. Michelle is stunning. Jordan and her dress are too try hard. Cate’s dress is too hideous for words… except for the word ‘hideois!”
Bee and Anna look terrible, why are they obsessed with floral curtains as dresses??
I find the dress interesting – like a deconstruction of an actual garment. *shrugs* Fashion is subjective.
The only thing I’d really change is the eyeliner. She’s getting to that age where the hooding of your eyelids makes the liner overwhelming.
You can put a garbage bag on Cate Blanchette and she will still pull it off.
Cate usually looks fantastic but this is horrible! Michelle Williams hair looks great short, I’m glad she cut it!!!
Cate’s dress is fug but the eyeliner a la Kate Middleton is disturbing. I KNOW her make up artist can do better.
Two things:
1. Diana Lane – yay! Those shoes – meh…
2. Why is Bee Schaffer everywhere with her mom these days? Did I miss something? Last I remember (The September Issue doc) she was sneering at fashion and claiming she would never have anything to do with it. It’s the one time I felt sorry for AW; it seems her whole family considers Wintour’s career at Vogue and her impact on the fashion industry a sort of contemptible waste of time.
Anyway – what’s the deal?
Michelle Williams rocks short hair like nobody’s business.
I love this dress. Deconstructed design, prominent bra on top of what could look like a baseball shirt, leather sleeves, skirt part that could’ve come from a Carolina Herrera atelier….Thank you for constantly bringing some fresh air to a heap of unimaginative fashion choices. When it comes to her fashion instincts, Cate wears the dress and not the other way around.
Love this, so true!
Cate…NO.
Kate has really lost her fashion touch — looked like a bunch of fabric remnants loosely stitched together.
