Emma Roberts debuts blonde bob for the summer: fun or flop?

Emma Roberts Leaves A Hair Salon In West Hollywood

Who wants to rock a short, low maintenance hairdo for the summer? Emma Roberts sure does, and the actress recently showed off her new look, a cute blonde bob. Emma, a natural brunette, has gone through a variety of hues, from the blonde her character Chanel Oberlin sported on Scream Queens to a red hue for Coachella in April, which, as red hair will do on a former blonde (I know), faded to a less vibrant shade, as evidenced in this recent pic on her Instagram.

Emma trusted her tresses to hairstylist to the stars Riawna Capri, who also styles Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev. Emma went from desert rose to blonde bombshell in four hours and got her extensions taken out. Riawna posted the fruits of her labor on her Instagram page. Emma also showed off her new ‘do while out with a friend at an L.A. sushi restaurant over the weekend.

The 25-year-old actress is set to return to Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens for its second season later this year, reuniting with co-stars Keke Palmer and Lea Michele. She’s also moved on with her love life after splitting with her American Horror Story co-star Evan Peters. Emma has recently was seen out and about with Christopher Hines, whom she met via her fashion designer friend, Brit Elkin. They do make quite the cute couple.

As far as Emma’s new look, I totally love the color. I’m a blonde and that’s the shade I have been trying to get forever. Mind you, I don’t have a hairdresser to the stars or four hours to kill. I think the cut is cute too, and am secretly jealous of any woman who can rock bangs over the age of 13 or so. Long story short, I dig it.

These haircut and color are absolutely meh. Bland

    • Alix says:

I thought it was a wig, it looked so bad in the top photo!

      • Esmom says:

It looks so much like a wig in that photo. I think it looks cute in the hairstylist’s photo. But I have learned from experience that this hairstyle doesn’t look good without a decent-to-high amount of maintenance.

      • amilu says:

It does. The color is terrible (though I think it looks so much better in the IG photo).

    • Goats on the Roof says:

The haircut itself isn’t so bad, but the color and center parting are awful.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I love the bob, I love bangs, but the centre part throws it off.

    • Size Does Matter says:

The color looks totally different in the pic where she’s on the street from the Instagram pic. Is that because of the natural lighting?

  2. detritus says:

I do not like her. Violent nepotism hire.
Her hair is cute though. It always seems like shorter hair is more work, for me, not less. At least at my level of hair skills (barely any).

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I know what you mean. When my hair is longer, it’s more forgiving if it’s slept on or not perfectly clean. And there’s always a ponytail or messy bun or something if it’s too crazy looking. When it’s shorter, it’s actually easier for me to style the first day, but the second day I have to pretty much start over.

    • greenmonster says:

Same here. I cut my hair a couple of months ago and regret it. I have to style it everyday – otherwise I look like crap. With long hair I just could put it in a ponytail or bun and was done. But all the styling isn’t helping when it comes to keeping the hair healthy so it can grow long again.

    • Erinn says:

Same – when my hairs short it flips out in weird directions, and I can’t do anything with it. When it’s AT LEAST solidly on my shoulders it starts getting crazy easier to deal with.

And I can’t stand her either. Nepotism at its finest because girl really isn’t a great actress, nor is she all that pretty to make up for it.

    • Snazzy says:

I don’t like her either. So much nepotism paired with so little talent …

    • Esmom says:

Yes, I said something similar above. My hair is so long now, way too long, but I’m afraid to trim it too much because I don’t want to have to deal with styling it. I’m tempted to just let it go for the summer since I am off work but there’s one section that looks so bad (my hair is an odd mix of wavy and straight) and I can’t stand it.

    • Christin says:

She’s so bland, it’s hard to view her as ‘rocking’ anything.

      Walking definition of ‘meh’, IMO.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

THIS. My mother and aunt have tortured me my whole life to go short. I finally got around to it and also went a bright shade of red to boot. Every morning I would wake up looking like Sideshow Bob and have to flatten all the hair down to look presentable. The easiest lazy hair is long naturally straight hair, plain and simple.

    • Kitten says:

All I see is smugness when I look at her. She’s violent and seems really bratty to me. Do not like.

    • minx says:

      Can’t stand this little chickie.

    • Carol says:

I used to think she was bland. But after Scream Queens, I kind of see her in a whole new light. I like the bob.

  3. als says:

I don’t think this is a low maintenance hairdo for the summer. It is my favorite length but you can’t put it up in a bun so, unless I am attached to AC non stop, I am not taking any risks.
Even when I exercise, it is difficult to manage.
For an easy summer you either go full pixie or leave it long and pull it up.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I love the bob, but God, it was the hardest haircut to style I ever had. Mine would always get poofy around the ears, my head looked like a reversed V.

      • Christin says:

I tell my hairdresser that I want to avoid the George Washington look (puffing out from the ear downward). For summer, she suggested a stack in back with slightly asymetrical sides. It does fall into place better than a bob.

    • minx says:

Agree. My 17 year old daughter has very long straight hair and she loves it for summer; she just pulls it completely off her face into a long ponytail. She always looks cool and cute.

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

It looks really cute in the Instagram shot, but she must have done it herself in the top photo and it’s very boring. She didn’t use the right products and it’s not shiny, plus it’s not all that easy to get that bend in your hair. It takes my hairdresser longer to do that than to just blow it out straight. I think it’s a very pretty look, but I wouldn’t call it carefree. Love the color.

  5. The close up shot looks ok, but in the shot of her walking her hair looks like dolly hair. Looks like fake acetate or rayon or whatever was used in the doll heads.

  6. PHD Gossip says:

    WIg. DUh.

  7. Matador says:

Seriously? I thought that was a wig.

  8. Barrett says:

Her hair must be ready to break off. Looks nice, sounds bad.

  9. Bridget says:

Bad hair made worse by a bad personality.

  10. Becki says:

I think it looks terrible!! The color, the cut, the bangs….all of it is BAD.

  11. MorningCoffee says:

There is nothing “fun” or “cute” about that horrid young woman.

  12. shannon says:

Emma Roberts in the queen of extensions. this “cut” isn’t a major change for her. Also, IMHO, bobs are more work than longer hair.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah that’s what I thought too: she just took her extensions out and got a fresh cut.

  13. TyrantDestroyed says:

The only thing I liked is that finally Evan Peters and her are over. If the rumors about her personality are true I feel sorry for her new partner.

    • Courtney says:

I am so happy they’re not together anymore. It seemed like such a toxic relationship!!

  14. QQ says:

Wait That is not a Wig??!!!

  15. Mary says:

Now I don’t feel so bad about my blonde hair. Right now my hair is like a level 7 but my stylist didn’t get all of the brassiness out when we bleached it so it also has gross rust streaks in it. But even taking away the streaks, it’s still not a complimentary shade on me. Maybe lighter would work. Maybe I should just go back to being brunette. Choices. Choices. The same goes for Emma. That is not the right shade of blonde for her.

  16. this looks atrocious…. like she has the coloring for auburn or copper hair…. like that actually might boost her visibility style wise…. and maybe a rich chestnut like emma Watson…. but blonde… butter flaxen blonde at that…. ewwwwww

  17. Debutante says:

    That is really bad hair.
She needs to grow it longer, go back to brunette with some lighter brown or caramel highlights. Her coloring is so wrong for blond .
Better yet, stay the ugly blond shade and just go away .
