Alex Skarsgard: ‘Although I like the idea of having my own family, I’m in no hurry’

The Legend of Tarzan comes out on July 1st, and Alexander Skarsgard really needs for it to be a hit. Not only did the film cost a crazy amount of money to shoot, re-shoot and endlessly edit, but no one is quite sure if Alex can actually open a movie. He’s never opened a film this size before, just sold on his name alone. Although to be fair, Margot Robbie is being pushed out front and center for this film, even though it’s not called The Legend of Jane! So Alex covers the new issue of Vanity Fair Italia, and while they used the wet-t-shirt photo for the cover, the rest of the shoot is mostly Alex dressed in nice clothes (you can see the editorial here). Anyway, Alex has been giving lots of interviews lately, so here are some of the most interesting quotes from a handful of his biggest interviews:

Alex’s early fame in Sweden: “To me that the taste of fame was not liked for nothing. The fact that my father in Sweden was a very popular actor helped to make me feel insecure. I wanted the attention of others, to have people laugh at my jokes, and I liked that the girls looked at me, found me cute, funny, charming. But I assumed that they were with me just because they had seen me in a movie. I could not bear it. ”

Turning 40 in August: “I do not know if it’s because of age or if it’s because of how it’s going in my career, but I’m happy. I loved being part of True Blood: it was seven wonderful years. And I miss my colleagues, there are times when I wish I were still on the set with them and playing the vampire Eric Northman. On the other side, it’s exciting to feel free. During its run, the series set my life’s agenda, and there were interesting opportunities that I had to give up.”

Whether he wants kids: “I have no children and am not married. But I come from a big family, I have seven brothers and sisters. The smallest is under four years old, I’m surrounded by teens and children. So, although I like the idea of having my own family, I’m in no hurry. ”

He adores Margot Robbie: “Margot and I had just a really deep connection from day one, we really found each other. What makes Margot so beautiful is not only that she’s a stunningly gorgeous woman, but that she is not vain, Margot is so down to earth and fun and that makes it even more attractive.”

The best kisser between Aussies Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman & Ryan Kwanten: “Out of the three I’ve got to say Ryan Kwanten is surprisingly a good kisser actually. He’s very tender. You wouldn’t think it because he’s kind of a tough guy but very soft, gentle, tender touch.”

[From The Daily Mail, Instinct & Vanity Fair/Tumblr]

I forgot that Alex is turning 40 this year. He seems, to me, like he’s still in his early 30s, but I’ve gotten used to the fact that I’m terrible at guessing ages. And now I feel a little bit sorry for Alexa Chung, but only if she’s thinking that Alex is going to marry her. He’s not! He does not sound like a man interested in getting married or starting a family any time soon. Maybe Alexa isn’t feeling it either, but it still sucks a little bit for Alex to be so publicly ambivalent when he’s actually got a serious girlfriend.

As for Ryan Kwanten being the best kisser… hmm…

Christ why does this site always act like women are always baby crazy and wanting to get married and should be offended if a man says they don’t? Both of them have said before they travel and work too much to really want kids or a family right now.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

He used to talk about wanting kids quite a bit (well, as much as he was interviewed at the time) so my first thought was that maybe she’s the one who’s not ready yet. They haven’t been together that long, certainly not by H’wood standards. So I don’t see the problem either. He’s a man, he does have time. No idea what she thinks about kids but she doesn’t strike me as someone who’s desperate to get knocked up and get married. I find it a bit insulting to take this interview and go “Oh poor girl.”

Also: I appreciate the chest hair. Very much.

      +1
I’m so tired of the “this guy says he doesn’t want to get married right now..oh his poor wife/girlfriend/partner who must just be DYING waiting for a ring and to start popping out kids” narrative that has become common on this site. It’s a new thing, too, because it was never like this here before! Sigh.

  2. ItDoesntReallyMatter says:

All I can say is “chest hair”. Yummy!

  3. Naya says:

Plop him next to Hiddles in the pile of men marked “I Dont Get The Fuss.”

    • belli says:

      height.

the most mundane guy will trump over any other guy, of almost any station and condition mind you, if he is exceptionally tall. this is a society where the majority of young women, even if they are 5’2″ or something, say they need a man who is over 6 feet tall.

even thinness or exceptional hair for women is not as big of a valuable commodity as height is for men.

  4. antipodean says:

In spite of his reputation, and all the posing, pouting and pursing, I find him as alluring as cold rice pudding, and I really don’t know why. His father on the other hand, YUM. “I love to love, but my baby just love to dance”. River foreva!

  5. lisa2 says:

I like that he is honest about family. Women in the industry should do the same.

He looks good. I could actually see him in a Bond role.. and I don’t really know anything I have seen him in. Never watched that show.

    • Sarah says:

Have a woman be ‘honest’ and she’s a desperate baby crazed psycho who can’t hold down a man because she’s pressuring him into marriage and babies. If she says she doesn’t want kids, she’s an evil selfish child hating shrew who cares more about money than our responsibility as humans.
It’s happened before and will happen again.

He should get to it if he wants kids – the male biological clock is very real and fathers over 40 open up the possibility of many many health problems for their kids.

  6. LeAnn Stinks says:

I LOVE Alex, he is my big crush along with Travis Fimmel and Charlie Hunnam. Think I like blondes? LOL!!

Anyway, Chung doesn’t deserve him, she is so overrated and mediocre.

    • Sarah says:

I never liked Alexa or knew much about her but then I saw her on Lisa Eldridge’s youtube channel and I get it now – she’s laid back and charming and cool.

      Look it up 🙂

      • The New Classic says:

Me too! I didn’t get the hype surrounding Alexa at all till I saw her on Lisa Eldridge’s YouTube then suddenly it was like “Ohhhh, I get it now!” She seems like she’d be awesome to chill with. I’m pretty sure I want her for my best friend.

Also, I don’t know what it is with Alexander. I have always LOVED tall (over 6’2), blond, handsome men. I am definitely a woman with a type. Yet I see this man in all his tall, blond, handsome Nordic glory and think to myself, “Meh, pass…” What is even odder is that I love his personality and I think he is quite handsome, yet for some reason don’t find myself with a celebrity crush on this man. It is confusing as hell.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

I have seen her interviewed and I still don’t get it. There are prettier women who are just as chill, look at what Alex said above about Margot Robbie.

Not to mention Chung is supposed to be some kind of “style” icon and “it” girl…um..okay. To each their own…

  7. Kaye says:

I have a long-abiding lust for Alexander Skarsgard, even though I don’t normally find blond men attractive.

No matter how few comments you get on this post, PLEASE continue to report on this man.

  8. sauvage says:

I’m pretty convinced that Alexander Skarsgard is an awesome human being. I KNOW he is a really good actor. Having seen him on “True Blood”, and then in films as diverse as “Melancholia”, “The East” and “What Maisie Knew”… boy, the man can ACT!

    • doofus says:

have you seen any of the footage of him and his friends partying? or the one of him trying to lead a cheer at a footie match?

he IS an awesome human being.

oh, and I LOVED him in Zoolander!

  9. dj says:

Yeah! My Viking! I so many things about AS…he has no problem with nudity, has little to no ego and chest hair. Did I mention he is deliciously tall? Please keep reporting on AS. I hope Tarzan does well. My sister and I will have butts in the Theater seats upon opening. I really hope he can open a movie! I miss True Blood (only Erik Northman).

  10. spittair says:

Ugh, he’s so gorgeous. Viking goodness….
