Channing Tatum gets candid about his sex life: ‘fully connected otherworldly’

Premiere Of Universal Pictures' "Hail, Caesar!"

For years, Kaiser’s been saying Channing Tatum is a good interview. Even with this information, nothing prepared me for his conversation with Joanna Coles from Cosmopolitan for The Girls’ Lounge at Cannes Lion. Channing was promoting his and wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s new vodka, Born and Bred. In addition, he’s doing research for his new Magic Mike Live Las Vegas show, about which he is very tight-lipped. When I read that Cosmo was talking to Channing about sex, I prepared myself for a lot of cheeky flirting. Instead, Channing articulated his thoughts on sex as it pertains to Jenna, schedules and that it’s okay for sex to not always be earth-shattering. Channing responded not only honestly but thoughtfully and does so with complete respect for Jenna. Joanna began the conversation playfully but ended it by thanking Channing for what she said was, “… the most frank interview I have ever, ever a) had or heard with a celeb.”

Channing Tatum knows good sex. What, like that’s a surprise?

On Wednesday, the actor sat down for a refreshingly candid interview with Cosmopolitan Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles in France to promote his new vodka brand, Born and Bred. After a couple swigs, the conversation naturally turned to sex. Tatum is apparently a huge fan.

After further prodding, he explained, “[Sex] should be something that enriches your life … It shouldn’t be the only reason you’re in a relationship.”

“It’s one of the clearest ways we can communicate,” he added. “It boils things down to a very primal level.”

Then Coles, our new hero, had the gall to ask about Tatum’s energy in bed.

“I just lay there … She’s really athletic,” he joked about wife Jenna Dewan Tatum. “We get down. We have a great sex life. We communicate very well.”

Sex columnist Esther Perel then took over the line of questioning and turned the heat all the way up, inquiring into how those at Château Tatum use intimacy.

“We don’t have sex back into our happiness. That’s how we know that there’s something we have to talk about,” he explained. “We don’t hate-f–k each other.”

Finally, Perel explained how she likes to describe sex as a place rather than an act. After asking the actor where he “goes” in sex, the actor offered up a surprisingly honest and semi-relatable window into his life:

“We have truly all different kinds of sex. Sometimes it’s like, ‘Look, you gotta get this done. I gotta go to work.’” he said. “And then we have full on fully connected otherworldly connection sex.”

[From Huffington Post]

You can watch the full (NSFW – language) interview here. I agree with everything Channing said about sex. I have been having sex with the same person for a really, ****ing long time. I never thought one partner was for me, I enjoyed variety far too much. Like every other aspect of my committed vs. casual relationship, the sex evolved with our lives and gets better all the time. I have heard and said, ‘Look, you gotta get this done. I gotta go to work,’ and it has never detracted from the ‘otherwordly connection sex.’

In case being candid about sex and respectful of his wife hasn’t brought out your heart eyes yet, the last question posed by the audience to Channing was, “Feminism to you in three words?” To which he responded, “I can do it in one: Equality.” I believe I am now a charmed Potatoer.

    The potato is so charming.
The jump street remake killed me, and I was expecting to hate it.

  2. Jen43 says:

He seems like an all around good guy. I always enjoy reading his interviews.

  3. TG says:

His AMA on Reddit a while back was so good, and I wasn’t even a fan. Highly recommended.

  4. Insomniac says:

Good for him. I swear, that response on feminism was better than what some women say.

  5. Alix says:

Eh. I guess I don’t feel there’s any need for anyone, ever, go to into the details of their sex life publicly, no matter how “respectful” they are of their partner. I’d still consider a breach of trust.

Normally I’d agree with you but the interviewer was Cosmo- that’s what their MO is.

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I liked what he said and agree that sometimes sex is quick for relieving pent up whatever and sometimes it’s slow and about connecting with many variations in between. In fact, I had a boyfriend that always wanted the looking in the eye, looonnngg version and I sometimes glanced at the clock and thought really? Your still on my neck? I guess we are all different.

  7. Rhiley says:

Their Lip Sync Battle showed me that both Jenna and Channing can blow it up in bed. They each have moves. I think hers may be a wee bit better than his.

  8. Kimmy says:

He gets better and better. I swear. He is either the greatest actor in the world or he really is that charming, kind, thoughtful, and respectful. You never hear one bad thing about him….or his wife by extension.

  9. Nameless says:

I remember when they were in that dance movie together. Terrible acting, but you could tell he was really into her. It’s nice to see they are in a healthy relationship all these years later.

    Awesome interview!

  11. Lexx says:

Channing Tatum is a lot like Rihanna in that they are both still here solely because of their personality.

  12. FuefinaWG says:

    … SNOOZE …

  13. RF says:

I have always shipped Channing and Jenna so hard, they actually seem like a celebrity couple who will go the distance!

  14. crictorrun says:

    Love me some Channing Tate-yummm.

  15. Abby says:

I feel like I comment on every single channing post, but I just LOVE him. And her. And their little family. It’s not about the looks, even though I think he’s really hot in a just-like-my-first-love-ex-boyfriend way… but I love his personality and interviews and the way he loved the heck out his wife and daughter. I loved his Reddit AMA. I loved his interview with the autistic teen. Just… everything. If he and Jenna ever break up I will cry my eyes out because there is no hope left for the world.

    Love him!!
