Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston spent most of last week in Nashville, where they went out every night and spent time with her friends. Then on Thursday, Tom and Taylor spent much of the day getting pap’d with her parents. They went from “dancing awkwardly at the Met Gala” to “undercover affair, maybe” to “full-fledged relationship” over the course of about six weeks, it seems. Keep in mind, Tom and Taylor were only first seen together on June 15th, although those photos were taken on the 14th. Over the course of 10 days, they’ve been to three of her properties, met her parents, spent quality time with her friends, gotten pap’d a half-dozen times and now this: Taylor and Tom flew to London on Friday and spent time with HIS family – you can see all of the photos here (the pics are exclusive to the Daily Mail).

According to the Mail, these photos are from Ipswich, Suffolk, and the short woman with the white hair is totally Tom’s mother Diana. I’ve never seen his mum before, and I guess I was picturing a tall, regal-type lady with an imposing, aristocratic attitude. I literally have no idea why I thought his mom would look like that. His mom just looks like my mom! And my mom would NOT be happy if I brought home Taylor Swift. She would be shooting glances of judgment towards me.
What else? The DM says they flew into England on Taylor’s private plane, with five security personnel in tow. They flew into Stansted airport. the trip was supposed to be a “quick, 24-hour trip,” but as of Saturday, I think they were still in England. Tom was seen walking around with a friend – go here to see. And Tiddles got pap’d during a walk on the beach, because of course they did. Why is TIDDLES moving at the speed of light? Is Taylor pregnant? Will Tiddles be married by July? What is this mess really about?!? Is this all part of some kind of Jaguar advert? Is Tom working on a sponsorship deal with Aquatalia Ace, the shoes he keeps re-wearing? Is Taylor angling for a Louis Vuitton contract and that’s why she keeps using that LV purse? So many questions.

She’s been papped more with him in the last couple of weeks than she was in the year she was with Calvin Harris.
Since the news she broke up with Calvin came out, Paps have been following her around. Initially, it was for some sad reaction shots for the “dumped again” storyline. She has a lot of fans/antifans, her Pap photos sell for a lot and end up on covers. Then she gave them this crazy gossip rebounding quickly with a famous actor. Why would they stop following her, or get near her when she was going to their area?
Also, everybody is a Pap now. Gossip mags, TMZ make it very easy to sell any pics you might have.
Why anyone would want to be famous these days is beyond me.

Planes are easy to track by tail number even if you don’t know the flight #, so it’s not exactly rocket science to figure out where they are/where they’re headed. Not to defend Tiddles or anything–totally 100% for publicity. God, now I sound like a stalker. Not a stalker! Just basic aviation info.
@Hudson- one can tell the difference between someones cell phone vs a professional camera. All you have to do is compare the Rhode Island/Suffolk beach photos to the Selena Gomez concert.

Especially these young kids who try out on The Voice and these other talent shows. If you don’t go into the business with tons of money to afford great security, you could end up like Christina Grimmie. You never know who is sitting at home obsessing about you.
While I agree that she calls the paps, professional (or professional enough for these photos) cameras are cheap these days if you want to play a pap. I have several friends (4 that I know of, to be precise) who bought them, together with a bunch of different lenses. Not for paparazzi reasons but because they want to be considered artists. So basicly everyone is a “professional” photographer nowadays. It was made easy with digital photography. And being a paparazzi really requires neither photography skill nor REALLY good equipment, just stalking and good zoom.

I think they hooked up before the Met Gala. She followed him on Twitter in 2014 but he only started following her in March 2016 while he was in the US doing a press tour for ISTL and The Night Manager. That would explain his presence at Anna Wintor’s intimate dinner the night before the Met Gala. He was there as Taylor’s +1.
And do you really believe someone would dare sharing video footage from the Met Gala featuring other guests (especially a high profile guest like TS?). Anna Wintor would ban him from all social events. And from what I heard the guy who shared the video is an ambassadeur (or works for) a famous brand (louis Vuitton or Armani).
According to his stans he flew straight back to London after the Met Gala. He was seen at some UNICEF gala there. There was brief trip to the states when he attended some event, then there were sightings of him at home throughout May. He was spotted last in London about 2 weeks ago. So they’ve only been hanging out together for about 2 weeks. Also Taylor was on vacation with Calvin after the met gala from what i remember.
So they couldnt have been dating in any real sense of the word, and a hook up here or there doesn’t explain this kind of behaviour. I think they are just both really extra so together they become ridiculously extra.
So….if the kissy photo shoot was their beginning then its been ten days.
If they hooked up immediately following the breakup then its been less than a month.
If they hooked up after the Met Dinner then its been two months but they spent most of the initial weeks on different continents. They cant have met prior, theres an eavesdropping pap video of Taylor saying “it was nice to meet you” as they leave Anna Wintours dinner. Taylor is incapable of subtelty so I dont think that was scripted.
The sheer pace of this just screams 100% manufactured. They both needed this type of coverage around now. Their viral video probably sowed the seed in a publicists head that they are perfect together on paper so why not stage some mutually beneficial whirlwind romance. This. Cant. Be. Real.
@TH, you do not get to sit with your plus 1 at the Met Gala. Wintour follows old-fashioned dinner party etiquette rules. Couples are split and not seated near one another to encourage conversation and interaction among all guests instead of just cliques of people talking to their friends.

Naya– I totally agree with your timeline. They may have been texting in May but Tom was in London until he was spotted in NYC around June 12. So, assuming that trip was where this oddness began, it’s been two total weeks and they’ve been papped in every single location. Why are they trying so hard to sell this? It’s bizarre and using his mother for this sham has killed the last shred of respect I had for the man.
I read that they may have broken up in December but, kept it quiet for some reason? Not sure why it was Dec. But they were not together much anyway because of her touring.

They celebrated their first anniversary a few months ago where they posted a video of them eating their cake and exchanging presents. Then Taylor had that interview with vogue calling their relationship magical. Please. I bet there was no overlapping, they’re both just extra and love the attention.
HUGE Taylor fan here. I think this is the work of two people who are crazy in love who started an affair right after the Met Ball. Not necessarily a physical affair but an emotional one for sure. I think Taylor’s relationship with Calvin was on resuscitate for a while. Taylor must of had a crush for Tom to follow him on Twitter back in 2014. She only follows about 250 people on Twitter why in the world would she follow him? Did she love the Hollow Crown, that much? Taylor cannot have people thinking she is a cheater. Yes, suede shoes on the beach. And men doing manly things like shopping for balls. Quel horreur! LEGS smells like a man who has been told he has 30 days to marry or he’ll lose the family inheritance and it is all being documented for a reality TV show. But this too shall pass, as most damage to one’s dignity usually does and he’s off to Australia soon with or without her. @GNAT, never say we don’t learn new things here at CB! I am ashamed to say I had never, ever, heard of kappadi before, Sixer. So I scurried along to the Google and read up all about it. From what I could glean it is an ancient sport, and not the least bit soothing or gentle. They say it came about as a practise run for hunting and fighting, and is actually a contact sport. It sounds very exciting, am I right Sixer? In my own version of comic relief today, I managed to douse myself accidentally with the garden hose, soaking both my cat and my great aunt, one of whom was inside the screened front porch, the other seated on the back porch; unearthed a yellow jacket nest, miraculously avoiding stings; and set off some sort of feud between three of my neighbors when I told one of them his boarder couldn’t park on my lawn. I have no idea what was actually said in the three-way screaming match that ensued because I don’t speak Mandarin or Cantonese but I was given a bowl of fresh strawberries, which I guess is reparations of some sort.

There’s a reason why they’re continuing to do this despite the poor media reaction. They MUST be serious. At first I thought it was a silly theory, but maybe she is pregnant. K.C. This is Taylor Swift’s M.O. I think people don’t understand her actions because they are still in denial about her: she is and has always been a petty mean girl with thin skin. She doesn’t care what the media says about the fake appearing relationship. Nor us. Her audience is Calvin Norris her ex-boyfriend.
She spent the last month of their relationship trying to look more sexy and more Rita Ora IMO to keep Calvin’s waning interest. But he left her anyway and claimed she was sexually vanilla. This hit her hard. She usually gets revenge through her songs. But she can’t beat Calvin on the lyrics front so why not find an *actor* who is fame hungry and likes you to show Calvin how desirable you are. How a respected *older* British man desires you.
She set up that kissing on the beach *scene* for her favorite pap to capture and release in every supermarket Calvin goes to.
When Nick Jones left her, she wrote a nasty song about him and essentially called his new girlfriend a slut. She cornered another ex in a “I will not be ignored” bunny boiler deal. And then of course you can’t forget her attacking Tina Fey for doing a innocent joke which was factual!
Oh please. What is this obsession with her uterus? Stop saying the girl is pregnant, she just met him and I seriously doubt she was raised to jump into bed with someone on the first date, let alone get knocked up. Just accept it for what it is – a Gwake-like relationship that will go bust in a month or so.

I’m flabbergasted by how fake and over-the-top all of this seems: holding hands everywhere, getting tables at large windows facing a photographer while dining at restaurants, re-enacting scenes from romantic movies on beaches, being “papped” in such celebrity hot spots as Rhode Island, Nashville and Suffolk, meeting the parents a couple of weeks after ending a previous long-term relationship?!
Everyone and their grandmother is calling them out on their staged and coordinated relationship but they keep doing it, upping the ante with every new pap walk. How can this possibly be good for either of their brands?
I don’t know about art installation. I’m thinking more pound shop window display. What is a pound shop in Americanese? Dollar store? Do you have those?

I love the idiosyncratic differences in language usage. I often have to ask on here the underlying sense of a US moniker or phrase. So easy to think you know what is meant, use the phrase yourself, only to find you’ve got it badly wrong!
But Sixer, you got it right on the first guess. You might have worked your way through several possibilities: dollar shop, dollar mart, penny paradise, but nope, on your first try out the gate you narrowed in on the straightforward, entirely un-ironic, ineloquent term: dollar store. I think you’re set to teach a course on Americana at this point. 😉

In my neck of the woods it is the 99cent store. We don’t even make it to the full dollar! This display of lovedupedness would look right at home in the front window, along with the party balloons, and plastic cutlery.
In my town, we have several dollar stores and a 99 cent store and they all seem to feature gaudy versions of Hello Kitty everything.

In the UK, that sort of pound is called a rescue centre. That doesn’t work quite the same, does it? Rescue centre makes it sound as though they need an intervention! Ha. That’s made me laugh!

They had dinner with Holly Williams and her husband at a great restaurant that happens to be one open room with large windows along two walls–no way to not have a table visible from the window. The table WASN’T next to the window, the incredibly huge zoom lenses paps use force perspective to make it look that way.
It gets back to the big paychecks pics of them snag these days. Given the lengths paps will go to and the resources they have, following Tiddles from the airport and then around the small tourist town is a piece of cake. They don’t have to call paps, the fact that several print magazines changed their covers at the last minute to get quick stories advertised (that were a few paragraphs of nothing) and that the tabloids are running the new pics more than once a day is evidence of the audience thirst. Tiddles could hide, and at least the end of the lane his mum is on is blocked off to non-residents, or they could be true to his stated philosophy and LIVE THEIR LIVES!
Also, in typical DM fashion they exaggerate. It’s only three security staff, and two of them are pretty low key.
Yes, there was a photo taken by a neighbor of a group of paps waiting at the end of the lane for them to come out. No real way to get past that.

Think about it this way, in those totally fake, completely staged pics with his mom, there are 3 security dudes standing right there and the pap is clearly about 10 feet away from them, if TnT weren’t totally on board with this, those security dudes would have blocked them or told them to leave. That has never been the case. None of these are “hiding in the bushes across the street” kind of pics. Leaving the Selena concert? That pap was right next to them, no one stopped him. Lunch with the Swifts? Clear as day and she nearly broke something posing. Time to accept the fact that she calls them and sets up these photo ops and stages manages the whole thing.
She and the paps have an agreement. That’s how there were photos of her exiting her home posing for the cameras everyday.

This whole thing is delicious, it went from rebound sex/publicity stunt to full fledged relationship for the whole world to see in one month. But the detail I love the most is how Taylor changes her style with every guy she dates.
People keep saying that but, the Daily Mail talked about how certain outfits were from years ago. I’m not sure how she dressed with Calvin but, it seems like she may have gone back to her own style again?
She did preppy with the Kennedy ‘child’ and rocker chick, edgy with the DJ. Her style always morphs into the style of the man she’s dating. She’s one of THOSE girlfriends.

What are you talking about? Practically everyone here has dragged Leo for his “girlfriends”, makes fun of Affleck and the nanny, and resoundingly mocks Jagger and Nicholson (although they haven’t been relevant in gossip for a damn long time).
She could sleep around, have a side piece…or get married tomorrow. Fine. What people are mocking is the bizarre (BIZARRE!) PR campaign which makes them both look silly. Maybe it’s 100% true love, maybe it’s not, but whichever it is they’ve waaaaay overdone it.
I also think her endless smear campaigns and perpetual victim status coupled with her “I’m perfect” attitude leads to the side-eying. I think it’s great that she’s dated so many people, and he’s super cute-I don’t knock their relationship at all. What I find cringe-worthy is that they’re publicly pushing it so hard so soon. They’ve been dating just a few weeks and already met each other’s parents and it’s all been captured by paps (arranged by them) and the pictures of these supposedly private times are all over the news. It’s odd.
But Rihanna never gets called out here for her prolific partner swapping. Taylors problem is that she must adorn every relationship with rainbows and glitter stickers. I think if she just quietly started to pop up near around him never confirming or denying anything, she would get the Rihanna pass.
Exactly. It’s the circumstances around how Taylor dates, not the quantity. Rihanna doesn’t give interviews saying how magical her relationships are. She doesn’t leave breadcrumbs that spell out who she’s singing about in her liner notes, then professes she never names names. Taylor is manufactured to the tee, yet claims to be as authentic as they come. That’s where the side-eyeing from the public stems from. Not the number of men she’s dated.

His image is taking the bigger hit because he used to talk about how much he wanted his life to be private. I have always wondered about the man behind all the chivalry story, whether he holds his purse string real tight. I once read in a gossip blog (not very dependable, I know, to be taken with a grain of salt yadda yadda) how he was seen out for a dinner with a gf (JArthy?), and when they finished, the eyewitness heard the gf offering to pay for the meals. He also seems to wear the same things over and overfor years- that jacket, that shoes, those jeans, and those blue grey shirt conbo. Maybe it is just his eccentric way or he just does not like to spend any money. Or on a more positive note, maybe he gives all his money away to charity, yayyy!!!

TH, they were everywhere in Dec ’12, papped in Cental Park, in the UK, meeting each other’s families. Then they went on holiday in Jan to the Virgin Islands, apparently had a massive row and she left early after 3 days. That was the pic on the boat when she was leaving.

It reminds me more of a Kayle Cucoko type of dating pattern. Its press fast forward in every relationship and a tendency for oversharing. Kate Hudson is probably more the female version what you are suggesting. She gets dragged a lot for dating in pretty much the same male stars do all the time. Or someone like Rihanna.

Same. Given all the bad news of the past few weeks, Tom and Taylor’s Transatlantic Adventures have been a welcome dose of entertainment.
And I think the reaction is exactly because the roll out is so over the top. They want attention, and readers want to be entertained. It’s marvelous.
These points about Taylor being so unfairly and singularly targeted are quite untrue. The same comedy bit at the Golden Globes that Tine Fey and Amy Poehler made the comment about Taylor Swift slowing down and taking time for herself, after which Taylor told Vanity Fair there was a place in hell for women who did not help other women, Fey and Poehler ALSO made fun of Leonardo DiCaprio — “And now, like a supermodel’s v**ina, let’s give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio.” Everyone remember? Fey and Poehler have made fun of others, like Clooney floating away to die in space rather than be with a woman his own age (Sandra Bullock). I’ve read many comments making fun of Jagger, calling him a haggard old “man wh*re” who is disgusting. And they make fun of Leo in direct relation to Jack Nicholson, saying it is gag-inducing that Leo is turning into Jack, aging but keeping his girlfriends the same very young age group always. I think Leo is even more age-specific, and heck yeah people will continue to grow louder as he gets older and still pulls the same. Michael K from Dlisted calls him Leo DiCatchaHo. Does that sound like he’s congratulating him?
People have to stop with saying poor Taylor is the only person who gets jokes or side-eyes, and if she was a man she would not even register. Not true at all! Maybe the actual problem is that these people are not registering the shade thrown at men; it is not the fact that it does not exist. You may not think it, but this scenario with Taylor and Tom is way, way over the top. And it isn’t even just her usual method of brand/media manipulation (which journalists like Lainey actually applaud as one of her strong points, so not all negativity attached to that either). Truly, this relationship with Hiddleston is the fastest yet. Even for her MO, there has never been a double meeting-of-the-parents paparazzi festival within this amount of time after a break-up, no matter how you work timelines. Hiddleston is being side-eyed here too. This is not woman versus man, this is just head-scratchingly over-the-top to many people.
I don’t think Tay Tay is being slammed on Celebitchy, Lainey, or Vulture but some of the coverage has been rather misogynistic. Much of it is slanted as “poor Tom better run/he’s being taken advantage of” RME. Not that poor Tom is nearly ten years older than Taylor and can make his own choices.
Div, it can be said that some media can be rather misogynistic, yes; you can find that in coverage for many women, not just one. The point made by jferber above, and repeated by many others throughout comments all over various articles across the media, is that Taylor is the ONLY one ever getting blowback, and that if she was a MAN she would be celebrated. My point is, this is patently untrue. And yes, there are many people saying that Hiddleston is old enough to know what he wants (and in fact, many are saying he looks plain old comparatively — a comment about his appearance, generally the former territory of comments geared almost entirely towards women). Remember the “dad dancing at the Selena Gomez concert” bit? And further specifics about his looks. Hiddleston in fact is roundly being called out more than Taylor, by the Guardian, by the Telegraph… even by Celebitchy writers, along the lines of it making them think more of Taylor and less of Tom.
Point being, there are plenty of viewpoints being represented, and it is not solely misogynistic coverage anywhere. Those commenters who want to say run, should say it. There are plenty of Taylor defenders too (and even straight-out apologists).

I do think Tiddles staged some of the earlier shots but they didn’t realize how it would snowball into this big of a mess (because their PR has to be aware at how this is being covered and trying to prevent them from being overexposed). Tiddles initially fed the beast (paps), and now the paps are stalking them 24/7 imo.
JMO but I think they are in love AND also in PR love. Both of them are so extra and dorky and I can see how they would click. Not to mention that they are thirsty AF and ambitious.
I have mixed feelings on Calvin. The likelihood of him being cheated on by two high profile girlfriends in a row seems unlikely imo….I feel like he’s the type of guy who wants to “take a break” when the relationship gets rough but in his mind “take a break” means he gets to screw other girls while his significant other remains chaste. Not to mention the accident was super shady because he had a woman with him who was unidentified and he refused to go to the hospital….My guess is there was overlap, possibly even before the Met Ball, but it wasn’t necessarily a cheating situation. Even though it’s fairly normal, Taylor’s rep doesn’t fit into the type of on and off relationship and dating multiple guys at once….so I think she tried to rewrite the timeline.
Not just earlier. That first photo out walking with his mom the other day is so staged. They knew they would be papped going out there and wanted it.
On one hand, I think that may be true. On the other hand, would they really trot out the parents multiple times for PR? A friend of mine lived near January Jones during the whole baby daddy mystery and for a while the paps were literally parked right outside her door, the cops would eventually come and shoo them away (probably for loitering), and then they’d be back parked right outside her door…and she was at best a B list celeb. It’s not hard for me to believe that the paps saw how much the attention the staged photos were getting and then decided to essentially stake out Tom’s parent’s house once they realized they were in England and she already introduced him to her parents in Nashville….
I think they are dorky and extra and probably a bit madly in love with each other and the PR…but I don’t think either of them, especially Taylor after partially overcoming the boy crazy image, are unaware enough to stage all the photos that have been published. Both are way too aware of their images

But I really, truly don’t think they’re crafting every single step of this world tour photoshoot. I don’t think they’re mapping out their next PR move in between Tiddlesbanging and laughing manically about it. That’s too tin foil hat theory for me. Maybe I’m naive for thinking that way, I don’t know. I know image is important, especially to people like them, who seem overly controlling of how they look in the public eye. But at the end of the day, they are also just…well, people. This doesn’t necessarily look awesome for either one of their images, so it doesn’t make sense that they’d intentionally flaunt it so hardcore.

I completely agree with you. They can be blissfully in love and still want attention (or their PR agencies still want attention for them). And this media circus won’t last forever. Call them fame whores all you want, but unlike most fame whores, they actually have talent and careers. After they finish this initial (way too extended) roll-out, I suspect they’ll let up. I do agree that after they initially showed themselves to the paps, the media went after them doubly trying to get more shots/information. I don’t think it’s all their doing, just some of it. Celebrities love attention, yes, but paparazzi and journalists want money and clicks, too, and aren’t always working directly for the celebrities.

He’s overdoing it, and she’s loving the attention and also sticking it to Calvin. But it backfired and Calvin started yapping again, so she paid him off to cut it out and re-follow her and play nice.

Most of Tumblr is Very Offended that Tom lied and betrayed them so terribly, acting like a serious, intelligent actor when he really just wanted to Tiddlesbang. And then there’s the other half saying they’re going to support him no matter who he’s with *even though this isn’t the kind of girl they’d choose for him.
The overreactions are excessive, to say the least. Tumblr is a scary place.
K.C. – I’ve experienced the opposite. I think the parts of Tumblr I frequent are stunned into silence if I’m being honest. What struck me the most scrolling through yesterday is that a lot of blogs I usually check in on have gone radio-silent – or have disappeared entirely. If there are reactions, they are pretty subdued. I really haven’t seen of a lot hysterical essays about being “betrayed” or “supporting Tom no matter what”, certainly not by Cumberbatch/Hunter or Hiddleston/Olsen standards. My disclaimer is that the usual Hiddleston tags are so full of Swifties gushing about the romance of the century, and the photos that go with it, that I may not be seeing the full picture. They are drowning out the Hiddlestoners, and that takes some doing.
Watching the fanbases try to interact is pretty diverting. Two entirely different demographics and outlooks. Taylor-nation is all-in, they are buying everything Taylor is selling and are busy daydreaming about who her bridesmaids will be and if the wedding will in the fall or next spring. Meanwhile, my sense is most Hiddlestoners see this as just another in a long line of Swift romances, and are waiting for the storm to pass. They aren’t spewing hate in her direction, which is a relief. But they aren’t welcoming her, or her fans, with open arms either.
@Dara — I think I only follow one Tom blog, so I’m basing these reactions off what I saw in his general tag, which was slightly chaotic for a bit. But you’re right, there’s a lot of Hiddleswift love happening there now, too. Like you, I’m definitely only seeing part of this. I don’t follow BC at all and wasn’t bothering much with Tom when THEO happened, so I have nothing to compare this to.
I think these two fandoms are clashing because of the images they have of their respective idols, too. Taylor seems like she has always been looking for a British gentleman, and what do ya know, she’s got one. It’s not off-brand for her to be with someone like him—in fact, he’s a cut above past boyfriends. The Swifties that didn’t know of Tom before are being wooed by how charming and lovely he is. But a lot of Hiddlestoners view Tom as a private, serious actor. In my view (and I mean no offense whatsoever, just my observation), some Hiddlestoners went on about how flawless he was, ignoring the fact that his pretty obvious flaws are that he’s hungry for attention and approval. I mean, they’re hardly horrible flaws—he’s not a huge jerk or a drug addict or anything—but I think in missing those qualities to begin with, his fans are seeing this as a departure from the image they built of him, even though this has been part of him all along. Now they think everything that came before this was him just faking it, but to me, just seems like they weren’t looking at the bigger picture and zeroing in on his Prince Charming side.

I remember laughing at the fact that Haylor dated at the most two months, and I’m being generous, and they were posted in multiple cities, always holding hands. They both met each other’s families too. Maybe it wasn’t a big deal because Harry was a teenager then but this is exactly Taylor’s style.

She knows she’s getting too old for her pre-teen fans and needs to reach a more mature audience. She tried that with her DJ boyfriend (who, unlike Tom Hiddleston does not need her money) but without success. Now she’s trying to achieve that by dating a respected actor but it’s not working either. The only result of this showmance was trashing Tom’s reputation as a respected and classy actor, especially in his homeland.
You must not know anyone who is a fan of her. She has no problem with the older fans. I know a few who are in their late twenties that still obsess about her a much as they did when she first hit the scene. Her fans are crazy in love with her and will follow her to god knows where. She does not need an older or “respected actor” bf to attract fans.
Her fans from the beginning of her career are getting older each year too, didn’t stay pre teens, and are sticking with her. Add in all their moms, grandmas, and siblings who listen to her music with them. And all the new fans every year. She isn’t rolling in the money from one certain age group alone.
The 55 year old attorney who sits in the office next to mine loves Taylor Swift. So does one of my brother-in-laws; he’s not allowed to choose the music when my sister is in the car.

Using basic noon as time for Tom, the attraction is real but you guys aren’t wrong about this being partially career motivated, for both of them. She’s mostly supportive of his career but hers could be hurt by him, or over time he is not good for (or maybe fully happy about?) her career. She’s more emotionally into this than he is and the sudden attraction is there for both of them. He is definitely having the upper hand here and whether she’s ok with that over time is hard to know.
I’ll be surprised if this lasts but he wants this for sure. She is probably overwhelmed by how fast this is going. He is driving this bus way more than she is. I don’t think she’s fully aware (clouded by emotions) here.

I think we’re all in the same boat. I’ve gone from borderline-obsessed to just mildly interested in the space of two weeks, and it’s not because he’s in a relationship, who he’s in that relationship with, or even that the relationship is being packaged and sold like a visual romance-novel. Seeing his mom placed front and center to sell a story about his personal life ruined it for me. That’s a bridge too far for me, even if she was happy to do it.

He is choosing to orchestrate and/or go along with these stunts, which exposes the lie of everything he’s portrayed himself to be thus far in his career. I understand that actors have to play the publicity game and withhold some part of themselves for privacy’s sake, but they don’t have to be master manipulators – he chose to do that. I don’t take kindly to being profoundly manipulated for my entertainment dollars. No matter how this plays out, he’s lost me as a fan.

I recall him saying when he was with JArthy that there was “nothing to write home about,” but if he did meet someone special he would, and I believe this is a direct quote, “shout it from the rooftops.” Well, well. He’s making good on that promise, eh?
The main points of his personality that have been continuously pushed (that I’ve seen) is that he is SUPER passionate about his job and is a very nice guy, especially for Hollywood. I don’t think pap strolls with Taylor Swift prove otherwise. If I fell in love with someone (or simply started dating someone) who could coincidentally help me in my career, I don’t think I’d reject the help. Especially since his last few projects didn’t do great, despite hard work. I don’t hold it against him or think it makes him less of an actor. He clearly cares about his work and is accepting the boost that a new relationship gives him.
I guess I’ve been feeling kind of bad about the backlash he has been getting from this because this behavior truly isn’t so out of line for him. He has always been needy. He’s just never dated anyone this famous before. If he had the opportunity, I bet he would’ve been this over the top with Susannah Fielding, too, but no one was watching back then.
@K.C. ‘Manipulate’ is a strong word. He just had a carefully cultivated image – some saw right through it, some didn’t (I didn’t, tbh). I think fans were probably deceiving themselves more than he was deceiving anybody. They… well, ok, *we* saw this refined gentleman of impeccable manners and assumed too much because of it. I think most fans decided to see his previous instances of fame-hungry behaviour as cute and dorky instead of what they really were.
I think the fan disillusionment comes in large part from the widespread ridicule this whole thing has been receiving in the media. It becomes harder and harder to give a benefit of the doubt when even serious newspapers are calling Tiddles out on their pap strolls and analyzing this feverish PR game. And I think trotting out his mother was the last straw for many fans. It’s hard not to see it as anything other than tacky in the extreme. Mind you, I think she was a willing participant in the show. We know nothing about TH’s mother, after all. I doubt she’s any kind of a helpless little old lady victimized by her fame-hungry son…

@fiddlefaddle Don’t get me wrong—I like Tom. A lot, actually. I have to stay on the more critical side with him to stay sane, but from as objective a point of view I can muster, I think overall he’s a kind, smart, dorky, talented guy. His flaws make him more likable to me, in a way, because I could never trust the image a lot of his fans swore was the real deal. He definitely likes to hear himself talk and he revels in attention—hardly strange personality defects for an actor. I feel like I’m a party of one with this opinion, but I somehow like him more now that he has fallen off the pedestal. I was never convinced he carried out his princely image as much as fans thought he did, so I’m almost happy he stumbled a bit.
I feel like there are so many factors to how one views this situation, though—how much/little you think PR is involved in celebrity, what your separate opinions of Tom and Taylor are, what you think of their fans, etc. That’s what makes this whole discussion quite interesting.
Ok so this is what needs to happen. At the pace they’re going she needs to pull a Katie Cuoco and move in stat, get engaged in a few months then get married. Make sure to get an airtight prenup and then get a sweet divorce maybe a year from now. Rebound with the next hottie she sees. Oh don’t forget about alimony, that’s always fun.

She is merely working hard on the fairy tale, whirlwind rebound romance, to The One, that will end in an extravaganza of a wedding that will make the weddings of Bill and Cathy, Celine and Mariah’s fade into the distant dark annals of history. It must be BIG and FLASHY. Nothing else will do but the barrage of popping flashbulbs, the front covers of every gossip magazine, the topic of internet blogs. Tom will naturally benefit from the free publicity as well as from his very pretty and wealthy wife’s influence. I see it as win-win. Now I cannot wait to see the dress.
So given she has met the parents quickly within past relationships, this is common for her, not out of the ordinary. When I was 25 I took a boyfriend of 3 months to a family wedding all to break up with him 1 month later. I am embarrassed I introduced him to my family, but we were in a rose colored glasses stage, crazy about each other and then the mask dropped and he became obsessed with me not wearing makeup, having male friends, or painting my nails (would lure men; he was 11 years older than I but painfully insecure). From now on, I wouldn’t introduce anyone to my parents for 6 months unless they happen to be in town when he’s around. This all will be terribly embarrassing if/when it ends.
I don’t get the pregnancy/marriage talk. I think they are simply dating very publicly ala Blake and Gwen. This boosts both their statuses. I predict this will simmer out before the holidays. Then we will have BETTER gossip to talk about regarding them.
Publicity stunt on both sides. TS using it for publicity generally and to possibly drown out that Kanye West character, Hiddleston to raise his profile and ‘reach’ as he continues to hustle for the Bond gig. It all looks phony and staged with so many photos and a very cheesy script documenting everything they’re doing – most of it so far looking like immature nonsense that would appeal to tweenies on tumblr. Also most of it has been in the Daily Mail. That paper has been running stories about Hiddleston that have appeared suspiciously planted for quite some time.
Not sure how long they’ll keep it going for or what the end-point is likely to be. I think they’ve probably gone too far into cornball territory now for anyone not to sneer at them. Whatever it is I think they have both made themselves look ridiculous, particularly Hiddleston. I figured the man was hyper ambitious but this is desperado stuff. Mind you I think his PR strategies have been a bit iffy for a while now. I think he has been trying to game the system and get his name attached to something or someone big and important in order to get more exposure in the hopes he will get higher profile work. Probably doesn’t matter who it is or whether he can ‘sell’ it as authentically him as long as he can profit from it work-wise. I think he may find out that it will backfire though seeing how many people are laughing at the sheer OTT-ness of ‘Hiddleswift’.

Some of us have new swifty followers and it’s odd because the fandom’s are so different; Disney Vs High Rise. It just doesn’t work. Tumblr shut down one rather critical account for ‘privacy’ concerns; the rumor is that a few swifty accts complained and got her closed. I’ve started blocking unfortunately. They weren’t in Ipswich (that’s where I live!) they were in a village called Aldburgh (coincidently I used to live there too!) it’s TINY and there are never any paps around…had to be staged by them to get snaps like that!!!! I can also tell you it was VERY cold and windy yesterday! How she is wearing sandals I don’t know!

I know the beach well (and it’s oh so very beautiful) but it’s also beautifully remote and the last place in the world that anyone would be accidentally spotted. That they plainly took their PR there to capture their ‘private beach walk’ is now taking them into serious (albeit ridiculously and cynically hilarious) territory.

Yes my point was that the beaches there are a delight. They are sandy, unlike Aldeburgh’s stony one, and are very unpopulated. But then you will know that having a house there. 🙂
Never paps around because Taylor Swift was never there before? Pics came out yesterday showing a crowd of paps at the end of the lane leading to his mother’s house–you really think she called eight guys with gigantic lenses when all they had to do was find out where her jet was landing and follow the driving convoy from there? (Hence the coffee and jag pictures–his jag, by the way, not a rental. His PA brought it to the airport for him.)
Given the places paparazzi have tracked people to, and the lengths they have gone (do I have to mention Diana?) it still stuns me people can’t accept the only staged thing about these pics could be the stage where the photo agency gets tens of thousands of dollars for them, if not more.
Why do you think he asked his PA to bring his Jag to the airport? TH is one of the faces of Jaguar USA and gets paid each time he’s papped driving one of their cars. He knew he was getting papped and wanted to be photographed driving a Jaguar.

YESSSS. For Everything You Wrote!! People don’t seem to understand that it is worth it for paps to follow her flight plan and then set up at the airport, Tom’s house in London, etc. There was no way for them to get out of that house without getting papped, so why not just say f^ck it and go take a walk on the beach.
@Totally, you know I love you but your bias is showing – the pictures from Friday were no accident. Yes, you can track a jet by it’s tail number, Taylor’s fans have done it for years – but you DO need special access to get that close to a jet that has landed at a private terminal, and those photos from Friday were not taken long-distance, they just weren’t. The photographers were inside the facility, and I can think of only one way that happens without them being detained for trespassing.
They knew when/where the jet would be, which FBO would be handling its arrival (there are at least four different ones at that airport) AND they had permission to enter. I am sure there are some photos where I think the paps have gotten lucky or done their homework – but in the last two weeks it is a small minority of the photos we’ve seen.
So I’ve made a test to track her jet on this website and it says

TB, the other paps turned up after the pictures came out in the DM on Friday. The photographer who took pics at the airport was there as they arrived and was allowed access, took pics of them en route and then the pics with Tom’s mum.
You can tell pics are staged because they are clear high quality (taken close up) and subjects’ aren’t glaring at the camera.
Seriously, who gets pictured in Suffolk? Paparazzi are a rare sight in England as it is, let alone if you’re outside London. But it’s perfectly normal for them to be casually walking around Suffolk and ‘accidentally’ bumping into two of the biggest celebs right now? It’s laughable. Publicity at its finest.
I saw these photos yesterday and as I posted in the old thread: this is the most I have ever seen one of his parents. And at this point, I have no idea what to think.

The frequent comments that the pics are staged because no one walks around Suffolk and accidently bumps in to a camera man are either disingenuous or oddly naïve. Paps don’t just sit in the bushes in Soho waiting to see if someone shows up.
They bribe, they track jet tail #s online, they monitor –and they do whatever is necessary to get those money shots because this IS big money. The audience is thirsty. With huge zooms and digital files, of course the pics look like they are standing ten feet away. Because that’s what the mags/tabloids are paying for.
I agree. I feel like people keep missing the media’s part in all of this. Tom and Taylor don’t need to call them every time they go out–they’re able to find them. Part of it is surely they’re doing, but the paps are also doing their part.
The paps are doing their part because they are being called. You can be a celebrity and not have your picture taken.
@Totally, see my comment above about jets and tracking tail numbers. Some things don’t just happen, they are planned and then arranged to look like happenstance. Even if the paps figured out when/where Tom and Taylor would land and weren’t called ahead of time, there are many ways to conceal their ultimate destination if they had really, really wanted to.
Option A – Leave the airport in several identical cars or delivery vans and take the long way to mom’s house, rather than the most direct route. No Jag, no stop for coffee, etc. Option B – If you want to be super-discreet about it, rent a house on many acres that is nowhere near where your family actually lives, and get to know each other in total seclusion. Either one would have worked much better to avoid detection or attention than what they actually did.
Zoom lenses only get you so far, and when they are used there is a noticeable change in the quality of the photo. It’s hard to tell definitively from the versions online, but I personally see a huge difference in the airport photos from Rhode Island and from London. Rhode Island definitely looks long-range to me, the others do not.
It’s naïve to think she doesn’t have the paps on speed dial. Most big celebs do. There are plenty of celebrities people want to see that aren’t seen. Taylor calls the paps. This is very well known.

He’s got average looks, he’s not a bad actor but not as talented as fassbender, cwiteke ejifor or Tom hardy. Hes even rather bland compared to benedict cumberbatch- that odd face- redmayne – androgynous looks- Elba- raw sex appeal. the way I saw it he came a long way on likability, the right accent and networking. This relationship will take him to the level his talent couldn’t take him, he’s very very good at playing the game in my opinion.

You know what I really love? Only a couple of years ago he was very VERY particular about photos from his personal life. Someone hacked his FB and posted personal pictures– his lawyers took control of that. If a fan posted any of those photos, and especially one photo of him with his niece, they would get a C&D. I think his lawyer even sent one to a fifteen year old.
Now it is all for sale.
I think the thing to look for is if the Daily Fail suddenly started gushing about what a wonderful couple they are and how handsome he is etc. instead of snarking, that will be the signal that an official quid pro quo is in effect: promote me in a way that I like, and I will give you the “intimate family pictures” you want.

Apparently this is the norm, which I find absolutely astounding! Why does everyone go along with this? Oh well. Before I go — Just saw some expanded pics from today’s outing, and I can’t imagine having to travel around with all those bodyguards! What sort of relationship do you have with people whose job it is to constantly follow you around? I personally feel awkward whenever maintenance people or contractors are in the house. Do I ignore them? Engage in conversation? Offer them a sandwich? The stress to entertain or make sure no one needed anything would be 1000X worse if they were actually following me around as I go to the supermarket!!! XD

I don’t think we’ll have an answer to how/why until it unfolds further. Apparently this is an everyday thing for the time being, so…time will tell. In the meantime, hope they’re getting what they want out of this, whatever that may be.
EDIT: Were Taylor and Jake a legit item, or considered fake? I have no knowledge of that period in either of their careers/lives. They seemed real from what I remember, but who knows.

So just to add another side to this, I read a comment that took a different approach. In the past he’s said something like he wouldnt comment on his personal life because there’s really nothing to write home about (ouch), but when he found someone special he would shout it from the roof tops. When you find something to write home about, i.d., a woman you really love. You don’t call the paps, arrange publicity, coordinate PR strategy AND then write home about her. You spend more than three weeks with her getting to truly know her before taking her home to meet the parents.

It has past through my mind too that Taylor might be pregnant. Tom is usually too much of a private person to go around getting papped while making out with some one, let alone with his mother and a girlfriend. Also he confirmed his relationship with Taylor right away, but he was vague as f with Elizabeth. This thing with Taylor is going way too fast even for PR standards.
But how do you know what he is really like in a relationship? I mean nobody has ever seen him in a relationship as hes been single for the past 4-5 years. Olsen denied that they were dating so of course he would be vague, or else he would look crazy. And i don’t see why you have to do pap strolls every day because someone is pregnant?? I lurk here often and get a good giggle from all the comments, but in the wake of all that has been happening over the past few days the juxtaposition of this relationship roll out and UK imploding seems particularly… jarring? To both of you (and I’m aware it’s no consolation whatsoever) – in those 20 years I socialized with the most random sample of people ever. From the construction crews and garbage collectors who decided to befriend us in our local to students from all over UK, pub owners, professors, hardcore civil servants, people in the creative industries, media, market stall and shop owners (a truly random sample). I have never experienced an unkindness, aggression or anything negative. In fact every single person has been kind, welcoming and hospitable (in both big cities and rural parts).
That’s why all of this is so shocking.
And these dimwits played with matches, stroke the flame and now that it’s all going up in smoke and the reaction is – oops! We thought someone else had a plan! Whattheeverlovingf**k?! I’m both freaking angry and sad at the same time.
