Tom Cruise wants Katie Holmes’ widowed sister to move into his mansion

Tom Cruise is said to be extending a helping hand to his wife’s recently widowed older sister. He wants to ensure that Katie Holmes’ sister Tammy has the support of her family, and has offered that she stay in his Beverly Hills Mansion with her two sons. From the way this story is worded, it’s unclear if Tammy is going to take him up on the offer or if she’s considering it. Her husband Jeff Freti died of a heart attack on April 12 at the age of 48. They were separated at the time and in the process of a divorce.

“Katie was so worried and upset for Tammy,” an insider told The Enquirer. “They are really close, and Katie wanted to help any way she could.

“The Tom came up with the idea of inviting Tammy and the boys to live with them. It meant Katie could keep a close watch on her sister and help her through this tough time.

“Tom really was a savior. He wants Katie to be happy, and he knew this would make it so much easier for her.”

The Holmes family was deeply touched that Katie and Tom, as well as Tom’s mom, were able to fly to Toledo for the April 20 funeral in spite of their hectic schedules, says another source.

When the burial concluded, Toma nd Katie stayed at the grave with Tammy and Jeff’s sons, 6-year-old Jack and 8-year-old Joe…

Added the insider: “The fact that Tom stepped forward and offered to open his home to Tammy and her boys was a great comfort to Katie, her sister and the entire Holmes family at this difficult time.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, May 11, 2009]

For all the things you can say about Tom Cruise, he does take care of his family and they seem important to him. He genuinely cares about people and that’s touching that he went to the funeral with Katie and that he wants to invite his sister in law to stay at his home. Tom’s mother and sister lived with him for years and he seems to like to have his family members close. That said, I bet Tammy isn’t going to be moving in with her sister and Cruise. She hopefully has strong support from friends and family in Ohio and won’t be leaving home. Her sons also have their friends and family nearby and she probably doesn’t want to uproot them.

It might be kind of awesome to stay in that gorgeous mansion for about a week, but Tom isn’t going to waste any time trying to convince Tammy and her sons to get involved with Scientology. It’s likely that everyone who works on the estate is a Scientologist and that’s got to be surreal to deal with. I’m picturing a scene from Tom’s film The Firm in which he’s suddenly struck by the reality that his plush home and sweet job all come at a very steep price.

Katie Homes marks the end of Tom Cruise.

  2. geronimo says:

What a lovely gesture. Tom is so thoughtful. Some cynical people might suggest that this is a ploy to keep Katie where he can see her, not to mention the prospect of some recently bereaved, vulnerable new recruits to his very favourite cause. Not me. 😉

  3. Dorothy says:

OMG you people are obsessed with Scientology! He is being a concerned family member! But the family being happy that they could make it to the guys funeral… I would expect my sister to go to my husbands funeral and there would be hell to pay if she didn’t!

  4. HEB says:

Its a very nice offer, but it might be hard to uproot her sons after their father died…maybe Tom should just hook them up with some new digs in Florida–he’ll get a great deal on a Star Island mansion!

I read that Katie’s sister and husband were in the middle of a very messy divorce. Her reasons listed on the papers were extreme cruelty….it seems to me that the time to lend a helping hand was quite some time ago, when she needed to remove herself from her living husband…NOT after her tormentor was dead.

  6. boomchakaboom says:

I’m blinded by that hideously awful outfit Katie is sporting.

  7. barneslr says:

I’m no fan of TC, but good for him for stepping up and wanting to help family. Gotta give credit where it is due; despite his insanity, he has always had a reputation for trying to help others in trouble.

  8. bros says:

whatever. this reaks of controlfreak and seizing an opportunity to proselytize. creepy little man.

  9. JayBird says:

I’m embarrassed to say my normally pessimistic-towards-Tom-Cruise heart got sort of warm and squishy. It’s a very kind gesture. Celebitchy is right – you can say a lot about him (and I do), but Tom does love his family. Maybe a bit too much at times, but being there in a time of need is extremely good.

  10. raven says:

This seems a bit creepy to me. I am picturing those 1940’s B movies where the mind-altering smoke is released during the night in the mansion to break the sister’s will so she will join Scientology and hand her kids over for raising.

  11. Meimei says:

Ugh. You’re so much nicer than I…

What would be a better time to start proselytising? Sure, most likely he thinks it’s the best thing to do, but it’s still an unpleasant thought.

  12. Waynzworld says:

This was printed on May 11, 2009, huh? I wonder if Rod Serling knows about this!

  13. Celebitchy says:

@Waynz – print editions are post-dated. This was the May 11 print edition of The Enquirer, the newest on the stands.

  14. Annie says:

I love her hair like that! BRING IT BACK KATIE 🙁

  15. the original kate says:

i don’t think tom does anything out of the goodness of his heart – every move he makes is totally calculated for his image. i’m with raven, it seems like a chance to brainwash someone else into becoming a scientologist.

  16. C-DUB says:

Scientology or not….Tom seems like a good man.

  17. e-non says:

yep, geronimo said it all. it’s all about control — and potential new recruits.

  18. Magsy says:

Why must he always be clutching her hand or holding onto her?

  19. OKHero says:

I’m not bashing Tom Cruise here, or saying it’s not touching that he went to the funeral, but seriously? Why is that presented as some wonderful thing he did? I would never consider not going to my brother-in-law’s funeral under those circumstances, and my husband sure as hell better come with me! I would actually be insulted if my family made a huge deal about how I was able to make it despite my other obligations!

  20. j. ferber says:

If he didn’t try to recruit Katie’s sister, I’d say it would be nice for Katie, to have a friend and support in her own home.

  21. gg says:

    oh my sweet grits …

Everybody’s going to move into his big empty palace and go el zono on $cientology.

    TOM CRUISE IS SCARFACE!

He’s gonna whip out his leeda frien’ in a minute and go nuts. I can’t look.

  22. this is very beautiful pairs i like it very much thanks for sharing i like her style of acting she is very beautify to looks i like her

  23. Jade says:

I am not a Scientologist but I am sick to death of people basing every action Tom does as “proseltyzing”. If you want to know what real proseltyzing is, ask your Christian neighbors…they’re the ones that shove their beliefs onto everyone AND the government….
